Rooted KF ADW Launcher Ex Wallpaper Changes on every unlock - Kindle Fire General

Hi,
I have a rooted kindle fire & I have set up ADW Launcher EX as my daily driver. I have a weird problem whereby the wallpaper changes every time I unlock my device. This is really annoying as some of the backgrounds are really bright and it becomes difficult to read and see the screen.
Even if i set a wallpaper on my own, as soon as I unlock the device the wallpaper again changes.
Please advise what to do?
Thanks!!

I just tested this on mine as well. It appears to use whatever image is used in the unlock screen. I would be curious to see if there is a folder of images that the unlocker uses that could be tweaked to include custom images. Perhaps of I have time today or this weekend ill poke around the filesystem and see if this is the case. If you find out anything definitely post it up though I would be interested in fixing this on mine as well.

Does this on an unrooted Fire too.

Yes, same situation with unrooted KF

Of note, WidgetLocker has been updated to work around this if you've rooted. The wallpaper replacement was taking place entirely in the lock screen it seems. Bypass that and no more wallpaper changes.

Will this work on a non-rooted KS?
Never mind. In order to run WidgetLocker, it must be rooted. My bad!!!

Hi all. Head over to this thread for a quick and simple solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375825
You must be rooted.
Hope it helps.

I tried the suggested mod - first I changed wallpaper to just a simple jpg that I had (I'm using ADW EX launcher). Then, before I even had a chance to use the method, the wallpaper immediately reverted back to one of the ugly Amazon wallpapers. I am rooted (BurritoRoot) and on 6.21
Does this method depend on the nature of the jpeg image because for the life of me, I cannot get a wallpaper to stick.

There's an app called rotating wallpaper that if set up correctly will fix this. Works without root. It will update the wallpaper every minute to keep your wallpaper intact. Its not perfect but works pretty well.

Hey docfreed, I don't know whether there is a difference with what type of image file you use. I'm personally currently running go launcher ex and using its live wall papers with no problem after using the method I suggested. In your case maybe change the permissions and then change the wallpaper? I'm curious how that works out for you. Wish I could be more helpful.

Maybe I'll switch to Go Launcher and give it a try - it maybe something in ADW EX. But let me ask, do you chmod to 550 first or change the wallpaper first? 'cause I cannot get the wallpaper to stay at all - after I set it to my own jpeg, it changes almost instantly - could that be the pernmissions on the wallpaper file?

docfreed, so before I solved the problem, I'd switch wallpaper, whether it was a Live Wallpaper from Go Launcher Ex or a simple jpeg from my albums, the wallpaper would stick and stay, but as soon as I turned off the fire and back on, the stock wallpaper would return (which is the problem this thread is trying to resolve). I never experienced an immediate re-switch like you are.
When I tried out the solution (changing the permissions in the wallpaper folder in /data/data/com.android.settings/files), I first changed to a Live Wallpaper, then changed the permissions, and haven't had a problem since.
In your case, since you get the immediate re-switch, try changing the permissions first THEN change your wallpaper and see if that helps.
Let us know if that works, hope it does!
I understand how frustrating not being able to control wallpapers is.

Being a little nit picky but...

I absolutely hate having 2 separate wallpapers (one for lock screen and one for regular wallpaper). I wish samsung would have at least included the stock wallpapers. Also sucks live wallpapers can't be applied to the lock screen. I'm wondering if the I/o version can be ported to the retail 10.1 because I believe it is more like stock honeycomb.

I believe separate wallpapers for home and lock screens is a new feature of Android 3.1. The I/O devices originally came with 3.0.1 (although there is now an OTA update for 3.1) and showed the same wallpaper for both home and lock. When I updated my I/O device to 3.1 my lock screen wallpaper was suddenly different. So I just went in and changed it to the same image i used for my home wallpaper.
Speaking of nitpicking. Who is the guy that made the "Set as" menu for the wall papers?
You have...
"Lock screen Wallpaper Home screen Wallpaper"
Was kinda confusing the first time I'm looking at this long jumble of words. Needs some extra spacing a divider or something between the two options.
search the market for honeycomb wallpapers.
My lockscreen is widgetlocker so it doesn't bother me at all.
I like it.
However the cropping sucks and not having honeycomb wallpaper is dumb.
I don't understand what you guys are talking about..
just push the plus icon, then go to wallpaper and when you get the "set as" dialog, click "Lock screen wallpaper" and select the same one you have as your "Home screen Wallpaper". What's the issue here?

This. I've downloaded the stock wallpapers online but when they are cropped they look like sh*t. I get a blurry wallpaper that looks like its in 8 bit color.

That is interesting, but I think its a Samsung thing. My xoom on 3.1 did not have that option. I'm going to try rooting and see if someone on the xoom forum will share their launcher.apk. Apparently that is where the wallpapers are stored. Maybe I can just repace the Samsung launcher with the moto one? Idk

I posted this in a couple other threads, maybe we need a "Tips & Tricks" sticky: If you don't want your wallpapers to get cropped, use an app called Wallpaper Slideshow which will let you set wallpapers without cropping them.
Thanks, I will check it out. Will it let me also set my lockscreen wallpaper to the same wallpaper? If not, got any suggestions?

Scrolling Wallpaper?

I have a rooted kindle using Go Launcher. I've picked a Go Launcher wallpaper but when I swipe to different homescreens the wallpaper does not scroll. Is there a way to get it to scroll?

Were you able to find a solution for this? I know what you mean. I'm running the fire with go launcher, i fixed it so the wallpaper doesn't reset or anything and live wallpapers work. However they do not scroll when switching screens left or right. Anybody out there know how to fix it?
...Didn't want to repost so I just put it down again here.
I've been trying to figure out the wallpaper scrolling since mid december. Sadly I don't know Android well enough to know where the control for it is hidden or what might be missing from the Amazon stock rom that breaks that function. Still poking through CM7 and trying to see which of the thousands of differences is responsible.
Yeah I have been looking it up for a while now too. Will post if I find an answer. It would certainly be welcomed.

[Q] Wallpaper isn't scaling correctly.

Not quite sure what I'm missing, but I can't get my wallpaper to scale correctly. It is consistently zoomed in such that what should be a really crisp, beautiful wallpaper (such as to those bundled with CM 10.1), is instead fuzzy around the edges. I've tried messing with both my launcher (Apex) settings and my developer settings, but to no avail. Any help? What more information should I provide?
Nexus 10 (16gb Wi-Fi)
CM10.1 20130313 Nightly
Stock Kernel (interactive/noop)
Use something like quickpic or wallpaper wizardii or my preferred simple image wallpaper not sure why this always happens but don't fret just use an app and itll scale down properly

I have the same experience, QuickPic provides sharper wallpapers than standard Gallery. Use it to set your wallpaper (otherwise I think the default gallery is better for viewing photos (smoother))
Simple Image Wallpaper Free from the play store works great and very easy to use. if you decide to use it, you wont find with the other apps. long press the screen, hit live wallpaper, and there it is. after that its easy

Im using it but I dont like that you cant choose that the wallpaper doesnt move. When I set the wallpaper, it scales good, but on the homescreen only, on the other screens I have to choose a colour to be shown because the image doesn't cover all the homescreens. Hope you understood me, sorry for my english.
i also found simple image wallpaper free to provide the best visual quality. i especially enjoy its ability to define completely different images for landscape and portrait orientations. that is a stylish effect, and it is very unexpected (compared to usual themes).
somehow, wallpaper wizardrii and other apps which use an image instead of a live wallpaper provoke my n10 to occasionally reset the background to that ugly green leaf... i don't know if anyone has already fixed this since the last time i checked.
Multipicture live wallpaper let's you set any amount of pictures to rotate as the background or you can set a single picture... Works great with no crazy android zooming

Make sure your wallpaper is sized properly for the launcher you are using. If you are using the stock launcher, the wallpaper should be 3966x2560. This will fit your wallpaper perfectly in the 5 home screens...with the center of the image being in the main home screen.
I tried Simple Image wallpaper but could not stand the fact that it always runs and uses 13 MB of RAM. Great program just hate that it needs to run all the time.

Use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder, it's just setting the wallpaper (you can uninstall it) but it does it properly. Maybe even with some sharpening, I don't know. The result is simply good.
Search ”image 2 wallpaper” on the play store. Works perfectly for me.

Lockscreen background...

Hi,
so kind of a 2 point topic.
First is more of an inconvenience. As you know you can set the lockscreen wallpaper from the stock launcher. But if you happen to use another launcher (like probably many of us), there is no way to access that setting.
Second point, don't know if it has to do with the first, within the background settings there is an option to get "Shot on Oneplus 5" images changed daily as your background. I activated this setting, but it doesn't work, the background never changes.
Question is, is this a bug? Or does it not work because I run Nova Launcher instead of the stock one?
Has someone seen this feature in action?

On the first point, also found it a bit confusing, at the end I went through Google Photos gallery and did set the wallpaper that way (for both lock- and home-screens).

Live Wallpaper - Fire HD 10

Hi all,
Ok so I rooted my Fire HD 10 and I want to apply a live wallpaper to the home screen? I have installed Zedge and Google wallpaper app, but I cannot get any live wallpaper to apply! I have tried everything! downloaded wallpaper picker app, I just get a parsing error? and whenever I try to apply a live wallpaper I get App not installed error, What am I missing? I de-bloated the device only disabling safe recommendations.
Can someone help me please! it's driving me nuts.
Do I need to enable or install something to get this to work?
Thanks

Hey lichan, sorry for late reply but thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction. I've got the live wallpapers working now thanks to Dragonfire1024's post. My wallpaper keeps reverting back when the screen is turned off though so I need to have a look at that! I'm closer than I was though.
Thanks again

My Live wallpaper stays selected and doesn't revert when the screen is off so there may be something that needs to be redone. I'm on 5.6.3.0 (or 5.6.3.4 as Amazon has incorrectly numbered it.) I 'm not sure about a plain wallpaper but I'm going to switch to a non-live version because the live one seems to eat more battery even while the screen is off - not really sure , that's just an impression right now. Go back through DragonFire1024's thread and make sure every thing worked correctly. If that doesn't work post a question in his thread and he may be able to give you some specific help.
Hi lichan, yes the static one stayed fine it was just when I changed it to a live wallpaper? I have found a fix on this post I came across :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/help/remove-entire-lockscreen-t3338235
I ran the sqlite3 script to disable the lockscreen using a terminal app. I ran this code in terminal emulator :
su
cd /data/system
sqlite3 locksettings.db
UPDATE locksettings SET value = '1' WHERE name = 'lockscreen.disabled';
.quit
Now I can turn the screen of and on with no lock screen which keeps the live wallpaper running. As far as battery consumption I've only had it running for a day or so and it doesn't seem too bad but I can imagine it would consume more!?

Until I can figure out how to disable the Amazon lock screen or hack it, you can't add a live wallpaper. I have thought about creating an overlay, which would likely work. Creating a symlink or even a su.d script might work too.
For now, here is my personal collection of stock live and static wallpapers https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/root-install-stock-android-live-t3748061
You can set a static wallpapers in your lockscreen (it overlays/overrides all other wallpapers regardless of what amazon throws at you) by following my super easy guide here. Results have varied. https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....t-change-lock-screen-wallpapers-t3859459/amp/
Until we can modify the boot.img without breaking it, Amazon's lock screen can't be removed or disabled. See on the root file system, the file service_contexts. It has to be removed from that list otherwise it will persist through eternity.

You can change the wallpapers that rotate in the framework (or systemui. I forget which stores the wallpapers). But that's it. Some of the lockscreen is in both the framework and systemui. But the main running process is a system 'server' (not service) so it's impossible to shut it down or uninstall it without modifiying the boot.img. I actually have to give credit to Amazon on this one. Very very smart.
