[Q] GoogleServicesFramework.apk won't install - Kindle Fire General

Wonder if anyone has any ideas about how to fix this: I rooted my Kindle Fire, installed root explorer, everything's working fine. When i place GoogleServicesFramework.apk on my device and install I get a message that it won't install. I've tried placing the apk in the system/app folder, still no install. My ultimate goal is to get the Android Market working. I've been all over the threads in the developer's forum for the KFire ... no one has posted that they've not been able to install GoogleServicesFramework.apk. I must be missing something obvious ...

I'm having the same issue... even tried to "reset device" from the settings menu... but to no avail!

I am having the same issue!

You need to copy the file to /system/apps and change the permissions to 644.

How to change the permissions with ES Explorer??
I'm a complete noob at this. I see Root Explorer can change permissions but it is on the Android Market and I can't get to that until I get all of this installed

I got Root Explorer from Amazon App Store (not free) which I used to get the android Market APK copied to system/app and change permissions. Works great now.

The system is telling me I cannot move the file to /system/app becuase it is read only. When I try to make the directory writeable via root explorer, it does not work (will not perform the function after selecting it in the upper right corner).
I am getting really frustrated with this. I hate to ask but would someone PLEASE dumb this down for me. If possible please provide step by step commands of how to change this file permission. I visited the link and did not get it (feel like a retard right now). Not sure If I should be using ADB, RE or something else.
I have rooted 8 phones, flashed tons of ROMs and for some reason I can't accomplish this. I am about to throw this Kindle POS into the FIRE AAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

I had the same problem, but I had already side loaded some other Google apps, so I did a full factory reset and it installed just fine. It was the first thing I loaded on it, just to be sure. I never had to play with permissions.
It does depend on what version you use though, and there are a few flying around. I used the one from here

Also really frustrated
I am having the same problem where I can't install googleservicesframework. I also can't change permissions because root explorer doesn't show up in the android market. THis shouldn't be that hard! Already spent 4 hrs messing with this today.
---------- Post added at 05:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:19 PM ----------
DId a full reset. Rerooted Kindle. Side-loaded Root Exporer and installed on Kindle. Changed permissions on system and on apps. Moved GoogleServicesFramework.apk to system/apps. Also changed permissions on the apk. Still won't install???

Update
Working now. I loaded a different GoogleServicesFramework.apk and it installed right away. Weird. All is good now!

Can you let me know which version and where did you get the googleservicesframework.apk that finally worked for you. I still keep getting the same irritating "application not installed" message. If I see it one more time I might do some serious damage to my KF

Why don't you push the market to your device using dos commands

What exactly happens when you use the factory reset button on the KF? Understand that you lose root but what about all the apps that you have installed from the market, are they still on the device or do they need to be reinstalled as well? May be trying this as I can't get some things to sync, or wait and do it after the next update.
Thanks.

i believe you lose everything in the /data folder, so yes that includes apps you installed from the market.

Problem fixed
Had this problem too but turns out I wasn't using the right framework apk. Download the one from the pcworld turorial! Google "install android market on kindle fire" and open up the tutorial, there's a link in the post to the google apps package!
The just tap it in root explorer and install!

Make sure Install from Unknown Sources is checked in the Applications menu, though I think the message would say this if that was the problem. Then try deleting the market apk from /data/test/froyo/system/app (I think that's the location, look around in there for it), then reinstalling with the downloaded apk. If it still won't install, try copying the downloaded apk to the location you deleted the original market apk from, and see if market shows up again.

I searched using Astro and the only file with market in the name is
/system/app/0MarketUpdater.apk I tried uninstall, no joy. I try long hold using astro to delete, no joy. I went to settings/applications uninstalled gAppinstaller rebooted tried to install the apk no joy. I have no option to uninstall market (system/applications say version 1.82 when I go to details)
so I am open to suggestions on how to update the market app.

You can't mess with anything on /system without root. That's just a shortcut anyways. The file has to be in /data/test somewhere. It could also be called vending.apk.
Can you post the file here please.

Here:
http://www.multiupload.com/2TRUW4L630
1) Install zipsigner 2
2) Download New Market apk
3) Go to zipsigner 2 app and click Choose In/Out and look for com.android.vending1.apk, click it.
4) Select "Platform" under Key/mode
5) Sign the file
6) You will see the new name for this app appeared as "com.android.vending-1-signed.apk"
7) Through back button go to menu and open your es File Explorer or Astro and look for "com.android.vending-1-signed.apk" (make sure you are looking for the App which has word "signed" in it.)
8) Install the App and launch it
why so complicated?
In Orginal Archos Android:
1. Rename to Vending.apk.
2. use RootExplorer or Terminal to copy it to /data/test/froyo/system/app/Vending.apk
3. Reboot
In Uruk or CM7:
1. Rename to Vending.apk.
2. use RootExplorer or Terminal to copy it to /system/app/Vending.apk
3. Reboot
does anyone know how to get all the apps working in the market using cm7?
ive tried updating the fingerprint in build.prop and im still getting limited apps.
maybe im missing something??
let me know...
thanks

<Root Explorer apparently cannot be side-loaded due to protected app. It appears that you need to install directly from the marketplace or another android application store.> - edit... others said this was incorrect and they were able to sideload Root Explorer. Not sure why we had issues. I was assisting a friend get his Market working and found that Root Explorer was no longer listed on Amazon App Store. We did find it on AppBrain, but the AppBrain app wouldn't install on the KF.
In the end we found that ES File Explorer had a 'unprotect system folder' option that allowed the Market APK to be moved into System/App. His market is now working great. Hope this helps. You should be able to fnd ES File Explorer on XDADev or on the Amazon App Store (free app).
I finally got it uploaded and now i save the apl files to sd card and when i go in to move them to system > app it sas that "you can not paste becasue the file system is read only and when i try to change the permissions it give a weird error

You must not have root access. You should be able to change the file system to r/w if you have given superuser permission. Are you sure you have root access? What program are you using? (Super manager, root explorer, es explorer, etc.) Did you try using adb to change the permissions?

You could use ES File Explorer from the amazon appstore. Just enable root mode.

Just for reference, root explorer side loaded for me perfectly fine.
And you cant write to those protected folders without having root enabled.

My buddy kept getting an error that the app was unauthorized when trying to side-load. Tried to move it from sdcard/downloads to data/app and reboot and received the same error. Good to know Root Explorer can be side-loaded without having to install from the market directly if necessary. He was able to sideload all the other vvpGoogle apps and etc fine.
For anyone who can't download Root Explorer from the Amazon app store (I couldn't as I'm in Hong Kong) google root explorer apk and there are a couple of links with the apk for direct install - I think I registered for Mobiles24.com to get that and it worked fine for me.
However, I could only rarely change permissions with Root Explorer so I also searched for "Super manager android apk" which was better and easier to change permissions with. I also just started looking for Filestube/Megaupload links and then transferring by USB before installing with RE or SM
Still haven't got Android Market working - it loads and just says, "waiting for download to start"
I wonder if it's because it's my first Android and I don't have any devices listed?

I had the same problem. From what I can tell its the vending.apk
It would install and load fine, but no downloads would ever actually kick off.
Use the market apk thats in that gapps zip with the rest of the apps.
From what I can tell that's the newer market anyways and flashier than the vending.apk one.
That gapps one worked first try for me.
root explorer error
Hi all
New to this, total rookie, so please be patient
I live in Canada, got fire so trying to get droid market place. As far as I can tell I rooted it correctly using superoneclick. I cant access amazon market.place from Canada so I got root explorer from mobiles24.com and installed it on my kindle (I assume this what is meant by side install)
So now when I go to run it, iget the following error.
The application root explorer (Process com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
Thoughts on what is causing this?
There root guide for Linux/Mac includes the APK and automatically installs it. You could follow the steps the script uses to install, or just sideload it.
I side load'ed mine. No problem

This, although it's not as obvious to switch to Read/Write as root explorer. Menu->Setings->Scroll to the Bottom->Check Root Explorer->Yes on Superuser Prompt->Check Mount File System
What I did though was, I pulled the APK for Root Explorer from my data/app folder on my G2, then put that onto the Fire.
Then using ES File Explorer I installed Root Explorer.

Stop Android Market link redirect?

Is there a way to stop the Fire from forcibly redirecting Android Market links to the Amazon Appstore? It's really starting to piss me off.

Yes, Don't click on market links when you want a particular app open the Android market search for the app install it, Rinse and repeat.
Are you rooted?
If yes, it's very simple: just remove the file MarketIntentProxy.apk in /system/app.
(of course, make a backup first)
I removed this file and never had a problem... Market links open in Android Market now!

you have to set the directory to read write fro read only. You need Root Explorer to do this.
I'm currently using root explorer and getting that error. After reading your post I took a second look and saw the little r/w r/o button at the top of the app. Problems solved. Thanks for the help.

[Q] Problem With Package Installer

I am having a problem with the package installer on my Nexus 7. (Wi-Fi, 32 GB) I think I may have done something to it accidentally while browsing through the system files. I did click to install the installer itself out of curiosity, though, but I don't know if that could have any adverse effects on anything. I cannot install any apps, whether they're from the Play Store or an APK through a file explorer. I get error 406 when I try to download anything from the Play Store. (Except when I tried to update ES File Explorer. That worked fine... Every other app that I've tried will not update/ download.) When I try to install an APK, I get a message like, "There is no program to open this file." I had just rooted my Nexus after having it for nearly a year with the Motochopper root exploit, so the bootloader is still locked. I could still install apps, though, until after my first reboot. Could anybody identify the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
you might have removed packageinstaller.apk thats in the system. you can fix it by getting the correct packageinstaller.apk from the interent and move it to the correct /system/app path and apply CORRECT permissions for it

hey just root your phone with cf root download rootbrowser and replace the downloaded version with the one in system/app
then reboot
Hi guys!
I'm bumping an ancient thread here, hope that's okay with you.
I have this old S4+ lying around. I love it's Gallery app due to the built-in possibility to losslessly trim MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) videos by cutting to nearest keyframe, and also lossless rotation by changing the rotation metadata flag of the MP4 file in question. This simple feature is not implemented in "modern" Gallery apps, or well at least not in the OnePlus 5T I'm using today. So, I was thinking I could extract the .APK from my S4+ (running Android 5.x) and put it in my OP5T (running Android 8.x) without too much headache. Guess if I was wrong.
I get the error about that app was not installed. After browsing around on e.g. ApkMirror, I ultimately found a Samsung Galaxy derived Gallery .APK that I could install, it was a very early version (v1.x.something) which has the cutting feature, but not the rotation (flag changing) feature. So, this ancient Gallery3D .apk installed well, but not the one on my own Galaxy S4+.
So, what could be my issue? Is the .APK flagged to be installed as a system app, and due to my OP5T not being rooted I don't have access too /system/app/, therefor the error? Could it be that simple? If so, is it possible the modify the .APK to install as in /data/app/ instead? Of course I'd resign the APK with some dummy/androiddebug signature afterwards to make installation possible.
Could it be some silly (not really needed) demand listed in the AndroidManifest.xml of the APK in question? If so, is it possible to replace the AndroidManifest.xml with a very "basic" one listing more or less no demands, and re-wrap everything with new signature?
I'm really investigating all my options __except__ for having to root my OnePlus!
I figured that I could get a more specific error message from ADB than by just trying to install the .APK through the phone interface.
So, here goes..
Code:
C:\>adb.exe install F:\Galleri_com.sec.android.gallery3d.apk

The Galaxy S4 and most Samsung devices has a second framework app, twframework-res.apk, that only works with their apps. Here's the fun part: the existing Android framework-res.apk is modified by Samsung so both framework apps are required by a given Samsung app to function. Even better is that you cannot simply port the app and twframework-res.apk to a totally different device and expect it to function. You'd have to port the framework-res.apk as well, and with that apk being a system file, you'd soft brick your device after copying it and rebooting.
The tl;dr here? What you're attempting won't work due to Samsung modifications to Android.
