[Q] optimus 7 as a wireless (wifi) adapter? - Optimus 7 General

How can i use my wifi enabled mobile phone as wireless adapter for pc,for accessing internet on a desktop pc via usb(by not using mobile's 3g)?
I don't mean the usb tethering prosedure. If anybody knows. I have an old desktop pc without wireless adapter. I know that i could use a cheap wifi usb stick. I just want to know if this is possible.

While I know you can share the 3g connection with your phone, and you use to be able to use the computers wifi connection on the phone.... I don't think you could share the wifi connection with your computer. You can however, picked up a used usb one for a few dollars and a new one from newegg.com for $15.
While there may be a way to do it, .... you're asking a $300 phone to do the job of a simple adapter.

The currently available tethering on WP7 only shares your cellular data connection over WiFi.
There are indications that it might also be possible to share you're cellular data connection over e.g. USB, but I don't think that's been possible (even on unlocked devices) thus far.

a simple adapter (usb modem with a sim card) also does the job that usb tethering offers on optimus 7.
Thank you all for your answers. But i already know what are the currently available tethering (usb and with recently released firmware update internet sharing -cellular data- via wifi on wp7). I just asked if is possible to share phone's Wi-Fi connection to a pc (missing wifi adapter) via USB on wp7. That's all. If anybody knows please reply.

Well like I said, at the moment the only thing that works is Cellular -> WiFi.
WiFi -> USB might work after some registry changes but as far as I know nobody managed to this until now.

Wifi Internet Sharing

Hi Guys, My laptop wifi is broken so i'm wondering if it is possible to share my Wing's Wifi to my laptop via USB.
It is. I don't know about a default rom, but you can internet share off your phone's 3g on the rom i use, juststable. I've only figured it out for 3g though, not on a wifi network.
i''m using FingerMe currently but I used JustHome 19 before and I can't figure out how to make it work

You just run the Internet Sharing program included in the ROM, connect via USB, follow the program's directions, and you're off!
(Unless apreincher removed internet sharing...)
It should work with your WiFi connection on your phone, too.
Oh, and, on a WM6.5 ROM, it's called Modem Link.
hmmm.. i still can't make it to work. here's what I want to accomplish
- Connect my Wing to WIFI
- connect wing to laptop via USB
- share the Wing's Wifi connection with laptop
my laptop's wifi is broken so i'm currently looking for alternatives..

Hmm, well you said you are using the Modem Link program from WM6.5, correct???
You can install the original Internet Sharing program, here: http://thewingster.com/internetsharing.aspx
(direct download: http://thewingster.com/Documents/Internet Sharing.CAB)
Maybe that'll work for you, if you aren't using the Internet Sharing version already. And also, I think you're supposed to start the internet sharing, and then connect your USB. Otherwise ActiveSync might interferre.
ace, have you actually done this?
As far as I know, the default Internet Sharing program wont actually share the phone's wifi connection with the host computer.
The solution is to use Internet Connection Sharing Control v0.21, which is a third party application that was created specifically for arranging the data stream however you want. The author touts it as being capable of "Wifi to USB - basically the pda acts as a wireless network card for the PC (neat, eh?)." Looks like it might be a somewhat complicated program to figure out, but it should accomplish whatever he's asking.

The default Internet Sharing program has a connection called WModemLink, which might be WiFi.
I never tried it though, so it's true that the third-party app is probably better.

weird question: Tethering on wifi?

I know this maybe an odd question, as why would you go through your phone when you could just use your laptop wifi card but does tethering to the LG E900 WP7 via usb also work if the phone is connected to a wifi network and the data turned off?
If for example, your wifi adapter on your laptop went belly up, could you use your phone to connect to your network and use it as a modem?
Or if you had no password on your laptop for the network but the phone had the password saved and you did not have the resources to retrieve it from the phone?
Just wondering as i think there is an app that does this on iphone.
Also Has anyone been able to tether using a blue tooth connection? I used to be able to do this on my old nokia 6110. lol

Interesting. Do you need to get out of diagnosis mode to use the phone once you're done tethering?
Don't know. Haven't tested the solution.

Connecting My Phone To The Internet via Computer

Hello,
I am using an X10i. I've been wondering, are there any ways i can connect my phone to the internet using my computer's modem?
I am not trying to connect my computer to the internet by using my phone as a modem. Do not teach me how to do it. My question and that question are two different questions.
Thanks.
If u have a mac u can use its wirless as a hotspot if u connect it with internet cable. I do that for my phone. Hope this helps
Cheers
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
yeah ,turn your pc into a wifi hotspot..use softwares like virtual wifi router for windows 7
Note:it will work only if u use a cable to connect ur pc and have a jobless wifi in your pc..
you can also connect using bluetooth,i tried once but failed ,didnt tried much,it wasnt worth that much effort!!
pls dont be naive... not every wifi card supports wifi hotspot even with special applications and tools, and the native windows 7 could make only ad-hoc whis is not supported by android 2.1 or 2.2 as I know...I've read many forums and finaly bought wifi router and what I can say its that its really worth to have it...
yeah wifi card also imp..but most modern laptops and PC are quipped with such wifi cards
I can always use my Vaio for wifi hotspots with my X10..never faced any problems!!
It's not possible through USB. It possible with the stock function of win7 or software for your pc. (Only if you got wireless wifi card in it ofcourse)

FYI I no you didn't want to use your phone as a modem but just in case this is the best way Barnacle Wifi [email protected] http://szym.net/barnacle/ It's not in the market. Just a FYI.
If this is helpful please click the Thank you button. Thanks good luck
I wonder why there isn't still an app which lets you use your pcs internet through bluetooth?

I'm using Windows 7 native wifi sharing right now, it broadcasts as a regular wifi network with WPA-2. I use it for phones, consoles, etc

Because it will eat batter, no far distance supported and your internet will be ssssssssssssssssssssuper slow.
^^^This is true. At 2.1Mb/sec of throughput, the Bluetooth will be the slow cog in that wheel of connection.

AGAIN!!! Not every wifi card support it!!! I ve tried ale possibilities (ad hoc, bridge) without succeed...with ipod touch 2G, samsungs i8510, i8910 everything worked, so the problem is only with X10 and android!!! You could make wifi hotspot only with newer or supported cars (my NTB is 3 years old and has unsupported intel wifi card) so this is the deal...

It is possible on an HTC phone, so I'm a bit surprised that there isn't an app to allow us to do this.

I wasn't arguing that all cards support it, I was just saying that when it IS compatible with your card, it isn't adhoc.
Try using Connectify on your computer. It is free. If it manages to create the hotspot on your wireless card, your mobile will be able to use the new hotspot connection created. It has worked for at least 3 of my friends and it enables me to share connections on my laptop no matter where I am.

Reverse Tether + Re Tether = How do I do it?

Basically I want to share my PC's internet to my Android phone via USB and then share the Android's internet to other WiFi enbled appliances via Android's WiFi as a hotspot.
PC Internet >>>--[USB]---> Android phone >>>--[WiFi Hotspot]--> WiFi clients
I progressed upto Reverse WiFi Tether where I can share my PC internet on my Android phone using USB connection but then enabling the WiFi hotspot on the Android phone doesn't share this internet to other WiFi clients (although the hotspot works and client's can connect, but no internet access/data transfer).
For those wondering why would I dig a pond to fill it;
a. I don't have WiFi (trans)receiver on my PC;
b. My Android phone doesn't have a RJ45 port;
For those even wondering: I don't want to buy a WiFi (trans)receiver for my PC either.

I'm not sure how to go about doing that, it might be cheaper just to go buy a cheap wireless router.
Any idea how to do the opposite? I want to use my phone to connect to a wireless network and send the network connection back to my computer that doesn't have WI-fi.
It might just be cheaper to buy a wifi card for your computer.

It just has an on board RJ45 Network connection. The problem that I'm running into is I want to use it to stream movies onto my TV in the living room, but my router is located in the kitchen and the wife has told me I'm not allowed to run a network cable across her house

On a train for another hour at least. I will reply after I get to the office. Pretty sure Cisco/Linksys makes a box that gives you wifi access via RJ45. Have one and I know it works. Just not sure of vendor and model.

[Q] Dialup in moto G

I previously owned HTC Desire V handset which had an awesome Internet-pass-through feature in it by which i could use the internet from my pc to my mobile(ofcoz i dont have any sort of wifi). This feature is lacking in moto g. i tried it by reverse tethering but it requires root which dont have. today morning when i connected my bsnl router to my android via OTG, it opened up the modem settings page!!!! which means android supports it. but the only question is- how do i dialup my connection from android to connect it to internet???
If you have a router why do you need a wired connection to the phone and Also how exactly did you connect your modem to the phone

exactly what i was meaning to say. you understood my problem correctly :good:
Have you checked into PDAnet? Its an app that runs on your PC and one for the phone and allows you to use the phones data connection on the PC. I used it for a short time to just see if it worked and removed it and can not remember if root was required or not but it should allow faster speeds than using dial-up.
