High fidelity position app - Focus General

Has anyone noticed better gps accuracy or response times when enabling the sensor aiding, GLONASS, or both in the high fidelity position app?
I have been trying different tests and I am inconclusive.

Since latest update to it I have noticed when it is enabled I keep a tighter accuracy ring longer. Where as before it would lose accuracy faster as I moved. I have been using the Outdoor Navigation app from GPS Tuner with great results for Geocaching.

This app worked great. I have just bought a new phone and the app is no longer available to install from the market place.
I think the last version was 1.4.
Does anyone know why it was pulled and if it will return.

i installed the app using that exact link about 2 hours before i made that post (had just hard reset).
i went to this page on my phone http://www.wpcentral.com/new-samsung-high-fidelity-position-enhances-gps-modifies-settings and clicked the link they provided.
again this is all from the phone, also..once installed it is in your settings at the bottom..not the app list.

mail the link to your phone and then click on it from there.
I was puzzled for a few minutes as after it installed it seemed to disappear.
I found it in Settings at the bottom of the list.

Separate. Read here:
The app has two settings: "Use Sensor Aiding" where it uses those extra sensors and "GLONASS" or GLObal Navigation Satellite System, developed by the Russians and which you can enable and use at the same time to enhance location availability. (Looks like Sammy is making some new international deals).
In addition:
You have the option to use sensor aiding to help with pedestrian positioning and using GLONASS.
GLONASS is short for Globalnaya navigatsionnaya sputnikovaya sistema or mildly put, Global Navigation Satellite System. As best as I can understand things, GLONASS is a Russian version of the U.S. GPS system. It compliments your Windows Phone GPS to enhance location availability.

GPS notification icon in taskbar

Hi,
After searching for days i'm giving up. Please help ?
What i want:
I wanna have a notification icon in the taskbar, just like the BT-icon:
"if GPS is active then show GPS-icon".
I understand that the trick is to monitor the use of the GPS Intermediate Driver. Who can and will help?
Thnx!
I hate to kick this, but please, can anyone of the developers enlighten me?
I'm gonna join the bandwagon for this, I would also like this feature.

Thnx! I hope more will join us, and more will dive in to this to actually get a solution
That's one of the things I'm missing!
Or maybe flash the notification light swiftly 3 times every 10 seconds to symbolize GPS activity.. My previous phone had such led and it was great to actually be able to see what's happening, or that what should happen actually does happen.
I still want this! Is there any developer....?
I want it to
I found it here. It worked on my Topaz but it would be nice if the icon is a satelite instead of just a red/yellow/green dots
I have contacted the author and hope he responds
Hello everyone.
I too needed an application like this and since I had no luck finding one on the market, I decided to write the app myself. You can find on the market by the name GPS Monitor Free by Illyrium. What the app does - it activates itself as soon as GPS is in use and deactivates when GPS is no longer in use. While GPS is in use, the app shows a notification icon with the satellites in view. For the moment this is all that the app does, but I am working to add some other features to it.
The app is free for the moment - and will be free (even the pro version) for everyone that helps me by sending me bugs/features.
If you have any ideas, you are more than welcome to pass them to me an I will try to implement them as soon as possible.
Cheers,
Adrian

Locale App on Nexus One

Is anyone using Locale App on their Nexus One, does all the functionality work reliably, eg, via location and time.
As it's a paid app now, would be nice to know if it is 100% compatible.
Or are there any other similar apps which you can recommend which are free?
Thanks
I stopped using locale when it started to get more and more broken with each new release. Some of the older versions worked really well but basically it chomps more and more ram until android has to kill it for any new app at which point it'll try and restart and then start sending messages out (eg tweets) for locations. Gets very irritating to have your twitter stream updated every few minutes to say exactly the same thing.
It's also a huge shame that they went pay on this app especially with all the flaws it has now.

So what do you use instead?
There is nothing to use instead. At least, to my knowledge. That said, Locale is still garbage and it is ridiculous they expect $10 for it. They should make sure it works before asking for any monetary amount, be it $1 or $10. For that reason, I will hold onto my money until another developer creates a similar, working application.
I have it and it works absolutely fine.
I managed to get the VERY latest version before they made it a paid app
I'm using it on my phone and haven't had any issues. I'm using the free version. One suggestion the developer gave me was when I set it to do something based on my location is to make the blue circle around the location really big. like 3 times bigger than I would normally expect it to need.
since doing this, all my locations work perfectly.
also, i use it at night (time situation) to turn off the volume, turn down the screen brightness and reduce the number of seconds for screen timeout. haven't had any issues with that either.

What version number is that?
tasker could be a alternative for locale
I;ve bought the app, and was pretty dissapointed.
It does what it says it does, BUT very slow
I've set Home and Work on specific locations, and a default for when i'm gone.
The app changes sound/wifi/bt, but when i'm approx 10-15km away from home. It's very slow, especially if you don't have GPS on.
Also, it activates WiFi everytime when you start using your phone to check for local wifi networks to determine the location.
All this was pretty emtying my battery
Works most of the time for me.
Be careful when you add a new spot...Don't change the radius and coordinates too much. (I tweaked my location for accuracy a couple of times and it never applied my settings)

Yep that makes sense. just wondering tho when you go to the settings then to programs list there is a e-compass in there i am new to the android so why is that in there but no app to be found.sorry for my ignorance Just trying to get up to speed with android
Thats probably the service and driver. The app list is a bit dumb by default, it shows EVERYTHING installed, you have to filter for downloaded apps.

Fascinate gps is oficially useless

Our worst nightmares have come true, the Fascinate GPS is as fcuked as it is on the other variants. Same behavior too - works for a time and then totally fails.

Ya. Thats pretty unfortunate.
Without GPS its useless for me
Well it works, but only for a day or two before you have to restart the phone, I've been having to do that on my Droid. But Im not making excuses, I've read that Samsung is going to have a fix shortly.

so much for hoping the Fascinate would ship with froyo but now i have to wait for this fix? how is it possible that the samsung epic had a fix?
Verizon better not be disabling gps in order for the to sell their agps VZ navigator crap
So it works as long as you reboot the phone from time to time?
Has anyone tried running the fascinate gps with VZ NAvigator?
So can u download google maps and use that? That may or may not be the dealbreaker for me, someone who knows please answer this question for me as i was planning on being the first one in the store on thursday and they are already holding one for me
Edit: i understand gps sucks, i still want to have google maps tho.

It comes with Google maps. Yes GPS doesn't work the best, but its good enough for me. Never not found me and directs me where to go. Yes could be better but its not useless. I use mine daily.
I've read the GPS problem is software based, something the way its calculating something is wrong, idk.. Samsung is saying they are going to fix it through a software patch, if that's the case, wouldn't rooting and installing stock Froyo or another ROM fix this issue?
iv been using the fascinate for a week now and yes the bing being the main search engine is annoying. and the bing maps does find me it usually takes 60sec or less. bt it does not give voice guided directions. i did install google maps and you can search fine and it finds you right away bt when you go to navigate option it will search and never come up just gives you the route turn list no voice guidance. bt playing with the phone if you go into the navigation app that installs with google maps and do your search in that and do the navigate it will do voice turn by turn. im pretty happy this is working. it still annoys me that bing is on the phone in the first place it belongs in the garbage.
I can wait for the GPS fix. Everything else about this phone is so amazing. Especially that GPU.

Based on my examination of the system dump, your SUPL settings are still defaulted www.spirent-lcs.com. Change those to supl.google.com, port 7276, secure sockets off, turn AGPS on by changing mode to MS Based, and see how it works. There are further driver level improvements coming. On my Captivate, there is a significant increase in speed of locking and accuracy when going from JF6 to JH2, and that's not the final fix yet.

where would you make those changes at?
UPDATE NEVERMIND
1 - Disable "Use Wireless Networks" - Settings / Location & Security
2 - Dial *#*#1472365#*#*
3 - Under "Application settings" Change "Operation Mode" to MS Based
4 - Under "SUPL/CP Settings" Change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 [ Do not use www. in front of supl]
5 - REBOOT
6 - Turn back on the "User Wireless Networks"
i'm not sure if this applies to everyone, but from what i've tested gps works perfectly in google maps. it shows my location to the accuracy of what corner of my work parking lot i'm standing in. however, if i use the test gps app, it shows no signal. very odd.

Anyone using Google's new buggy Navigation app?

The original Navigation (The blue arrow) app was awesome. It had live traffic updates and would re-route automatically and never dropped signal!
Now Google forced this new app on us, Navigation is no more but has now merged into Google Maps (it's a good thing but it's in beta)
Why the hell would I want to use a beta app?
BUGS ENCOUNTERED:
- If you manually press the power button to turn off the screen (whilst using the navigation), the route guidance will reset back to 'Select Destination' when you turn the screen back on!
That's so annoying and dangerous for me especially when you're on the motorway doing 70mph!!!
- Once you enter your destination and select 'Start' on the bottom right, there's a 50% chance the app will force the shutdown of the app.
This has happened often to me 50/50. Worst thing about it is, you can't just re-open the app or disable/enable GPS to fix this bug, you have to reboot your bloody phone!
- Map Orientation view messes up
Even though the original Navigation app had this bug, it was not as common as it is now. Also, there's a bigger delay in automated view change (when you turn direction, etc) This causes problems which forces you to zoom out of the route guide just to see ahead because the app is so stupidly slow to change direction at your pace.
- Stupid places of interest that you don't give a @~!* about!
Why can't I choose what I want to see on my map! I don't care about the best bars and shops in town when I'm on a mission!
Orientation bug is the worst and most annoying for me. Its never the constant behind the back POV... which is ANNOYING!
However, when I press the power button (while in navigation) so I can turn off the screen, and subsequently turn back on the screen, Maps FCs. Always. Once again, ANNOYING.
I felt like Google took 2 steps forward and 3 steps back with this one (while trying to hard to compete with Apple Maps).
Powering off the screen whilst navigating doesn't FC for me, but when I turn the screen back on, I have to click on maps to get navigation back, annoying

That's very helpful feedback. They can take that right there and use it to improve the app. Not that stuff in the first post. That's useless information. Nope. The most useful information you can give them is a good whinge and a demand the old stuff back. Pfft, feedback, what's that?
Guys, it's this simple

But Slappy, do you really think someone who gave this as feedback on how to improve the app has the intelligence to know that?
Also the app will have passed Google's in house testing, they however don't have every single Android device, and every single stock and custom rom in existence therefore there could be device specific problems, have you asked people using other devices if they see the same problems?
After a large scale update most apps have teething problems, but they will fix them very soon.
