[GUIDE] How to flash any RADIO on HTC HD7 - HD7 Windows Phone 7 Development

Hello everybody,
I write down there a quick guide about ... how to flash any radio on your HD7
1. First of all you must have RSPL/HSPL on your HD7.
More info about how to do tha, you cand find HERE
2. Download any ROM posted by ANSAR or FOOTBAL or other on http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=783
3. If it's a zip file, then extract into a folder
If it's an exe file, then replace the .exe extension with .rar extension and then unrar into a folder.
4. In the unzip/unrar folder find and delete the biggest NBH file. That file it's the ROM itself and ussualy have more then 200 Mb.
5. Put the phone into bootloader mode (tricolor screen), conect to PC (you should see the change from SERIAL to USB on the white part on the tri-color screen), than run as administrator the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the unzip/unrar folder.
6. The flash take no more than 2 minutes, the phone will reboot and you will have that radio flashed.
Pay atention, this operation will wipe all the user data. If you have NoDo or Mango unlocked with Chevron, you will lose that and you'll have to downgrade to 7004 to unlock again with Chevron.
Personally, I do this on a fresh flashed 7004 rom, then I upgrade until Mango 7712.
All the best !

i have a singapore operator HD7. bought from singtel.
a few days ag o i updated tot he july firmware update from HTC which moves the radio to 5.65
in these forums i see a 5.66 custom telstrar radio. so is this a newer version than 5.65?
should i install this custom 5.66?

A newer radio doesn't means a improvement in GSM or WiFi quality or battery life. It's also operator depending and what frequency (bands) use that specific operator.
You can try 5.66.09.21a (latest radio) from O2 rom.
Also you can use the custom wrapper and performing task 00 the phone will not hard reset after the radio flash.
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

It doesn't matter which is the newest. You're best bet is to flash radio A. Test it for a few days. Flash radio B, test it for a few days & so on to see which radio works best for you.

First, for flashing with custom wrapper, try to flash directly into booloader mode (tricolor screen).
Second, 5.66 will work with your network, because it's a gsm, not a cdma network.
Third, if you can't get signal, you can flash, with the same method, the previously used radio.

ve tried . Still does not work.
I used the dft rspl only. Do we also need to use hspl?
I don't want use hspl can?

So what bands does 5.66 operate in??

Bands are a hardware limitation, radio will not change this. What was meant is that certain bands, regions, carriers may work better on a specific radio.

The wrapper does not seem to work.
How do I get it to work?
Anyway there is another by ansar which seem to update to 5.66 but it hard resets the phone.

Must work only with rspl, but you must not reboot yoour phone.
After you instal rspl, the phone reboot into bootloader and then you flash the radio.
What is the error message ? Can you make a print screen ?

It's the same ROMUpdateUtility, but perform only task 28, not also task 00.
This is what make the phone hard-reseting after flash..

Om the custom wrapper is working, but it cant show the original rom image rom version the dialog screen, it only show the radio i want t flash , eg 5.66. Why?
So after flashing with rspl, if i reboot the phone what happens?
Wll it revert back to my original radio?

Why is that a problem (it shows only what will be flashed) ?
And yes, after rebooting, you will lose the RSPL.
And I thinks it's better to read a little bit before asking ....

Ok I successfully flashed the radio. Its 5.66 now.

Now you can test and see if it's better than 5.65.
If not, flash another one.

I have tried this but I cant get it to flash. I am already SPL'd. It goes into bootloader ok, then waits forever till it gives up and says connection error. I also tried disconnecting/reconnecting the usb cable when in bootloader (like the SPL procedure) to no avail. Any ideas?
How can i see which radio ROM is on my device pls ?

I've forget a (important) detail. You've to manually put your device in bootloader mode (by pressing the camera button and push and do a soft reset).
As soon as you see the colored bootloader image, release the stylus from the soft reset hole. then release the camera button. Your device will stay in bootloader mode.
Run the ROMUpdateutility.exe (of course, your device must be connected to your PC ;-) )

This has worked fine... thanks matey
Yes well, I didn't put mine into bootloader mode first (cause I did it before this thread said to do that) and it failed at 99% and went though the HTC recovery instructions! Thankfully though it went through the 2nd time having launched from the bootloader.
Everything is working fine... any chance that something has got screwed up though?
Hi,
Can I have some infos on this new rom ?
What are the changes ?
Thx
Did the radio change will effect also my ROM ?
I want my rom to be left unchanged.
Also, what are the advantadges of this radio version ?

1) Radio and O/S ROM's here may be flashed separately, so flashing this radio will not affect your current operating ROM, just update your radio ROM
2) I've just upgraded to radio 1.58.21.54 from 1.58.21.23. Everything works OK, I feel the WLAN is more efficient but too early to say what real differences may be
3) Instead of Async, I just use a FAT32 1Gb card with the *.nbh file on it with device in Bootloader mode
Is there any soulution to remove "Test Only Not For Sale" (Radio: 1.58.25.14), when the device starting?

Another question: Can I use SpbBackup to restore all my data after the radio update ? I know that I can't do it with rom update, but what about radio update ?
i don't know about using backup software, but i performed the radio update today, and none of the installed programs and my configuration was changed. everything worked as if nothing was done at all.

1) I hope you have first flashed Olipro's HardSPL version2 (only needed once but first) !! Then you can update/regress ROM's as you wish
2) Using Spb Backup after ROM flashing (either radio or O/S) works ok. It does not backup the actual ROM, but rather the directories in root, registry, PIM databases etc ... this backup is something I do after major changes like ROM upgrades anyway

Telstra Rom - not flashing

Folks,
HD2 from Telstra ( 2nd May ) running 1.66. Tried flashing it with 1.48 and 1.43 Rom's -- so I could then go to HSPL and a custom Rom, but no luck.
The Rom Update Utility starts and tells me I have image version 1.72.841.0, I click to update to 1.43.405.1 ( or 1.48 - have tried both ), then the 4 colour screen which notes 1.66. Then it goes to a HTC screen with a deployment bar, gets to only 1%.......then boom - error 294 invalid vendor id.......
What am I missing here ??
you need to flash thedowngrade from sd card, then you can hspl, and THEN flash from usb
At least your effort got that far.... i couldnt even see the zip open.
OS 5.2.21869
Manila 2.5.20121431.1
Rom 1.72.841.0
If someone can confirm what I need to do with what i'd REALLY appreciate it.
Have the backup rom just incase already.
you missed out all the important info.
what zip can't you open? what phone? what you trying to achieve?
assuming telstra like the op,
1 right click the telstra 1.4 rom .exe choose unzip here, or extract here
2 find ruu signed.nbh copy it to sd card rename it leoimg.nbh
3 phone off hold vol down, tap and release power, keep holding voldown till you see three coloured screen, should quickly change grey and start a card flash.
4 when complete and phone restarts hold vol down to re enter bootloader
5 run hspl as administrator using a usb port round the back of the pc,
6 when it completes, and phone reboots, enter bootloader yet again, and check that it says spl 1.42.hspl.
now, so long as you don't sd card flash hspl will stay and protect against bad flashes, flash what you like.

What 1.48 and 1.43 roms did you try? They need to be Telstra roms, as you can't just use any 1.48 or 1.43 rom and this is what is causing the invalid vendor id error. Once you are back to 1.42.0000 spl (after flashing a telstra rom) you can then run hspl and are then free to flash what ever your heart desires.
I have a Telstra HD2 as well (1.66)...got it recently and will flash it soon.
I don't understand the original poster's concern - why go through all that to flash HSPL, when apparently HSPL2 can be easily flashed over 1.66...which allows you to further flash any ROM ??? Is there a benefit of HSPL over HSPL2 that I am missing?
Thanks in advance
edit: my bad, just read in the HSPL thread that HSPL2 does not work with the telstra hd2.

keep reading, you still have lots to learn, hspl2 doesn't work on telstra.
Oh, my spl is 1.66.0000
I understand I must use HSPL (not HSPL2) on a Telstra ph. but can anyone recommend which rom to use? I've been reading for two days solid and can't decide!
I've copied all the guides etc so hopefully won't have a prob'... am just worried about warranty protection etc if it all goes pear shaped... i just want all this B.S. bloatware OFF MY phone!!!
Thanx in advance once again
I am in the same position, my Telstra ROM is 1.72 running SPL 1.66.0000.
HSPL utility tells me that "Model ID is invalid" or something like that.
okay, one more time.....
only the original hspl works on telstra,
hspl2 does not work. (bad model ID)
you need to downgrade to a 1.4 rom with spl 1.42.0000.
so, get the original telstra 1.49.8xx rom from HERE (registration required)
when its downloaded, move it to its own folder somewhere, then right click the .exe file and choose extract here. (if that option isnt available, install winrar)
when it has extracted, find teh file RUU_Signed.nbh, copy it to your sd card and rename it leoimg.nbh
restart your phone in bootloader mode, it should detect the leoimg.nbh and start to flash
this will reset your spl to 1.42.0000 and now you can use HSPL, and then flash any rom you like.
Thanks for the link to HTCpedia mate. I'd actually just found it myself by performing a thread search on the "Official HTC ROM's" thread. Downloading now.
Stupidly I've had problems after problems trying to get HSPL on my device. I actually started out on this ROM (1.49.x with SPL 1.42.0000). First I tried flashing from my Vista x64 machine, both HSPL2 and HSPL with errors, in my haste I thought I might need update to the latest Telstra ROM 1.72.x with SPL 1.66.0000 so I could use HSPL2 when in actual fact I just had the x64 USB driver problem, of course then the upgrade still didn't allow me to flash and made my situation harder as I had to find this original ROM again to downgrade.
Anyways I hope this works!
It works!
- flash rom back to 1.49.x with SPL 1.42.0000
- run HSPL with device connected via USB
- flash radio using CustomRUU
- flash ROM using CustomRUU
@rainey06au what Radio do you use with your Telstra HD2?
Got my Telstra HD2 running 1.49 last week and it's my first play with Windows Mobile .. couldn't wait to clear the Telstra image from the phone as my provider is Three.
Did plenty of reading and all the posts said to use the original HSPL first, this worked perfect first go.
Once done I tried the new Artemis_v110 rom, was very impressed except experienced 2 to 3 random reboots a day, even more while in YouTube player. Everything else woked well, reception, battery life, and clarity while on calls.
Decided yesterday to try another rom, first cleared all using Task29 format, then loaded HyperROM Ultimate v9.00 WM6.5.X but this didn't get through the first boot .. possibly due to radio required.
Now have flashed back to 1.48.4052 until I research some more.
Anyone recommend a rom and suitable radio for the Telstra HD2, anyone with Three?
Thankx
Thanks. Works a treat!
I knew I had to downgrade but couldn't find an old Telstra ROM.

I am also using Telstra HD2 and recently flashed it with Miri Rom. I like Miri because it doesn't have any customization. It has many versions to choose from, with and without Sense UI. It also retain all the original WM icons and themes which I like.
But like all ROMs, I do experience reboot but only once so far with the new version of Miri v17. One thing to note is the Radio version for the ROM. Make sure you flash the exact correct radio version, down to the sub version, e.g. 2.07.50 is recommended for Miri and not 2.07.51 (which is the Telstra radio version).
Another advise is always flash from pc, not SD card as I have experienced bad flash using SD card.
Hope this helps. Miri is only available from the HTCPedia site.
Yep my radio version is also 2.07.50. I get good battery life out of it using CleanEX_UDT HyperROM Ultra v9.00 (6.5).
I use Lia Glass ROM and FallOut Theme.
Interestingly this ROM and radio has only unlocked 455.54MB RAM, not the full 576MB. There are threads about this and getting the right combo will unlock the remaining RAM and/or improve battery performance.
I am using Radio 2.08.50.05.
Anyone else have the same experience?

look in settings about phone hardware info ram size.
I bet it says 576
that's cos the hardware takes 128 for graphics.
look st a standard rom and hardware will show 448 whilst total available will show 336
Thanks samsamuel.
Hardware info does in fact say 576MB RAM
Thanks for the explanation - slowly but surely getting my head around the intricacies of the device

thx it worked but after reinstalling the stock rom it comes again to what happend first.
You must have missed something.
1. Hold vol down to enter HSPL during boot.
2. Either Task29 or directly flash a stock rom to completely revert to original state.
3. If you using custom rom and task 29, make sure you also flash the radio.
In order for the MAGLDR to work, you MUST flash radio that enables 576MB ram. I.e.: radio with *.50.* in its version name. If your stock rom comes with *.51.* radio, you need to change the radio.
Go here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787) and pick a compatible radio and flash it. Then finally flash MAGLDR. It should work then.
Can anyone tell me where to get a stock rom?
I tried the HTC website, but apparently my serial number is wrong (I dunno why). My provider (vodafone) doesn't have anything either...

You need to provide more details. Which build are you using? Did you change the kernel, if so, did u copy the modules as well? Also, have you tried formatting your SD card using the panasonic SDHC card formatter? (It may seem trivial to format, but broken file system will prevent android from mounting your sdcard)

[Update]Radio ROM Thread. (all 8 hd7 Radio's are online)

Here you find some radio rom's for your hd7
[Update] now you will find a custom wrapper made by Dave shaw" attached to this post.
and here a link to Dave Shaw his thread where he share his wrapper to the world
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16460826&posted=1#post16460826
task 00 - this does not perform any kind of format after flashing a ROM.
This is the one you should use when flashing just Splash screens or Radios.
It saves you from having to restore all your data.
what to do with this:
1) download the attachment and extract (HD7_RUUWrapper_00)
2) download a radio you want to flash and extract.
3) copy the RUU_Signed.nbh from the stock folder (only for now, will update later)
4) bring phone in bootloader.
5) run ROMUpdateUtility.exe
6) follow instructions on screen.
7) run R/H spl again (this will change later when I updated the radios)
how to bring phone into bootloader mode:
(reboot while hold volume down button pressed). Connect to PC and wait for drivers to be installed. (USB appears on the bottom of phone screen) Than start updater to flash radio.
if you have a rom with a radio that isn't in this post please send me a download link
in the .rar we have:
nb folder (here you find the spl.nb and radio.nb)
Stock folder ( here you find the stock spl/radio.nbh)
XML folder (here you find a .xml with all the data from the 2 .nb files)
RUU_Signed.nbh (this is a radio only .nbh)

Remember you have R/H spl by Cotulla.
Remember that this will NOT reset the phone
Remember that if you take the radio from the stock folder that this will undo R/H spl so you have to run that again to
Thanks goes to:
Dave Shaw for making us a wrapper that doesn't hard reset.
xboxmod for helping me with almost everything
ondraster for the good chats (most things I really didn't understand )
updated the first post
I updated the first post with a ROMUpdateUtility.exe so that all can easy flash the radios to the phone
Thanks a lot for these Ceesheim. Wish I would've had these before I rolled all the way back to catch the firmware update from Tmob By the way, if we flash the new radio from Tmob, will it update all firmware that is in the actual update? I'm asking as I need to do a friends phone and would like to avoid rolling back just to get that done. Lastly, (and this is just to be sure), but will the phone really be hard reset from just flashing the radio (unlike it used to be on WM).

yes sorry , for now this will Hreset the phone because there is no public custom wrapper (one that does the task 32 instead of task 28)
"By the way, if we flash the new radio from Tmob, will it update all firmware that is in the actual update?"
do you mean a os update by ZUNE/MS/HTC ?
sorry don't know actually what you mean by this ?
but what this does is only updating the radio rom ( not the os and not the spl)

Ok, just wanted to be sure about the hard reset. And I mean there was an update from Tmob talked about here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188563 and wanted to know, if you install the radio which comes from this firmware update, will all the components of the firmware be updated as well? Or is the firmware update, pretty much just an update to radio and that's it?

it will only change this "5.51.09.11a" to "5.65.09.25a_22.45.50.21U." part
or one you like
and if you look at the phone (on custom dft) you will see this 2250.21.30401.531.DFT
the number 2250.21.30401.531.DFT is just an identification number I think, it doesn't say anything about with build you have.
so if you ask me then if you only update the radio all would be ok.
edit:
lol, yes to me it looks like just a radio update, and you can take every radio you like my radio comes from this "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183891" rom (I extracted it and removed the spl)
So im right in thinking the new custom RUU won't hard reset the device when flashing radios?.
Cheers kev

yes I am testing one as we speak but the problem is that it generate errors (and that isn't good for noobs )
and I can also tell you that the custom ruu is actually worked (no hard reset after radio flash )
but first the errors need to be fixed after that it will be posted on xda
i am trying to flash this "TMOUS_3.01.531.02_Radio_5.65.09.25a" on my HTC HD7 Tmobile.i am getting error 270 - update error
This is my phones Radio 5.54.09.21._22.33b.50.10U . I am not able to download through marketplace so i want to try different radio.
Im on CotullaHSPL 3.1

when flash is at 100% then just remove batt
if it didn't update then use the radio in the stock folder and run r/h spl after flash one moer time .

Ok, got you. I'm sure there has to be something else in the firmware update besides the radio, but probably doesn't matter much anyways. Can't wait for the custom wrapper either

hey Kwill , look at first post
The TMOUS update you're talking about included driver updates to fix the HTC Pink Camera issue. So, flashing just a radio ROM from here will not help. Flashing a custom ROM may undo this as well as I don't know if the custom ROM's have the updated drivers.

Hi!
I was just wondering if I flash the RUU_signed.nbh from the root folder the Cotulla HSPL remains in place. Which is really true but the phone cannot start: it keeps returning back to the BootLoader.
This is easy to resolve: Flash RUU_signed.nbh from stock folder of the archive as it is described in the first post. Cotulla HSPL is gone but ROM and data is intact. .
Hope there will be a fix for keeping HSPL in place.
Anyway this is far more easy now to upgrade my radio. I thanked every post by ceesheim here. (I hope I won't get in to trouble with that. )
Really thank you guys.
Cina.
As seen in many Android XDA forums with modem, this thread is stuck now.
Btw, nice job , a well made thread, i've found it so understandable.

Ok, that's what I was afraid of (there being something that wouldn't update with the firmware update). Guess I'll take my friends phone through the rollback and update him that way. Thanks drkfngthdragnlrd for chiming in on that one.

Where is the stock folder of the archive which contain RUU_signed.nbh located.I need to deinstall my HSPL.
Hi, I've read the instructions a few times, but I guess I'm missing something. I keep getting the attached Error when I run it. My phone does the have the HSPL also.
Thanks
i am on asia HD7 Singtel
i would suggest not flashing this thing onto yr phone because a while back i recenived the same HTC firmware update available to Tmous users.
the htc update updates the radio to 5.65. and we arent sure if it contains other enahncements, bug elimination or any other improvements

You should download any Radio ROM archive from the first post than extract it. Inside you can find three folders. Or of them (stock) contains RUU_signed.nbh you're searching for. Use that for flashing.

Trouble finding TELUS 1.52 SPL

I'm sick and tired of not having tethering or custom alerts, so I want to install a custom rom on my surround. I'm trying to downgrade my SPL to 1.52 so I can install HSPL, but I can't find a TELUS one anywhre.
The only one I have seen is Ansar's, but his links are dead. I can't post the links yet as i don't have 10 posts.
Does anyone know of where I can get the stock TELUS 1.52 SPL from, or where I can get Ansar's?
Thanks in advance!
I have two Telus Surrounds and I used this rom from Cingular to roll back the spl so that I could unlock it with DFT HSPL Version 3, and then you can load any custom rom you want. If you can't load the rom you might have to use the gold card with a memory stick.

I tried that one but it said invalid vendor id. I assumed that was because I had a Telus phone and not a Cingular one.
I should mention that I'm running 7.8 with bootloader 4.22.2250.0(129185) and firmware 2250.21.40200.661

I was successfully able to download and install the rom onto my phone. Now it's readying SPL 1.4.2250.2(113577) and then tried to install RSPL, but the phone would not reboot. I tried resetting the phone as some others indicated, but to no avail.
I then upgraded the phone to NODO using cab sender successfully and tried to RSPL, again the phone wouldn't reboot after completion.
Any ideas?

Great, now I can't even upgrade my phone using zune or cab sender anymore... I'm stuck on NODO.
Does anyone have the STOCK Telus ROM, and not the modified one like the one provided?

Telus rom is a test rom
you flash telus just to take its touch driver and radio
then you flash default shipped rom (delete SPL_Signed.nbh from shipped rom to save the drivers you got from telus)
then you can go with spl tools
thnx

When you say Flash Default Shipped ROM, are you meaning the TELUS one, or the Cingular one?
I then update using RUU or GoldCard?

The Default rom that you can name it shipped is Cingular
u use TELUS ROM when you have a trouble with touch driver ( like lock screen bug ) , or when u have trouble in call transmission driver ( making , reciving call problems )
note: u can't flash telus rom with goldcard method else you have a security unlocked bootloader !!
u can flash TELUS ROM with rom utility that come with it
after you take benefit of flashing telus, u cannot go with it, u have to return to Cingular one, note: delete SPL_signed.nbh from Cingular Rom to save drivers that u installed from TELUS, then you go with spl tools
sorry for my bad english

I don't quite understand. My phone was bought for, and is on the TELUS network. I had upgraded it to 7.8 using cab sender, but really wanted some features (Wifi Tethering, Custom Alerts), so I tried the custom ROM route.
The only thing I've been able to successfully install on it is the TELUS Test ROM, and upgrade it to NODO using Zune (Mango updates failed - I think because it wants a newer firmware, which I have the cab files, but they fail installing)
The Telus Test ROM that I had downloaded uses firmware 22.50.09.10402.661 and bootloader: 1.4.2250.2 (113577).
If I try to install RSPL/HSPL right now, the phone does not restart after completion, thus never gets into RSPL mode to do HSPL.
I recall trying to use RUU to put on Cingular ROM, however it always failed, I believe saying that Vendor ID is invalid.
I'm really frustrated with this, but I don't know how to move forward to install RSPL/HSPL.

steps to solve all of your problem
cus your device originally on telus network , you cannot install Cingular while you have locked bootlooader
solution :
1- search in forums about , unlocking boot loder
2- unlock your bootloader ( you know that your bootloader is unlocked when u see on the top of your screen , "security unlocked" when you enter the boot screen (4 colored screen)
3- install Cingular ROM and you will succeed in that after u unlock your bootloader\
4- using spl tools now u can unlock spl to get HSPL
5- install cerebellum 7.8 ROM that will find all features enabled on it ( internet sharing , etc)
and you don't need zune update anymore
note: you will find it hard to unlock your bootloader but it worth try
search in other devices forums , all are same

RSPL/HSPL is unlock bootloader not deeply enough to allow you to change the hole operator ROM , (change from telus to cingular)
you have to full unlock bootloader

I'm really not finding anything useful here... I see a lot for Android, but nothing for an HTC Windows Phone. Are you referring to an IMEI unlock? ChevronWP7? Unbranding? Interop Unlock? WP7 Root Tools?
Thanks
I've now managed to developer unlock my Surround. What's the next step from here?
