Will YOU help HTC out? - EVO 4G General

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=252442468100086
We should show that we are all united to help HTC and not let Apple take down the company who make our devices. One of the best Android makers there is in the world currently.

HTC isn't going away. They will just have to pay a bunch of money to Apple and Google said they will help HTC stay in business if that happens.

Oh really its just money. I am sorry if you did not know apple's goal in all of this. Money doesn't stop bleeding profits.. But loss of competition will. Their goal is simple to get them out of the country.

lol, people are really taking this serious?
HTC isn't going anywhere. They're large enough to take care of themselves and if worst comes to worst they have google backing them and if they're smart, Samsung, Motorola, LG and the empire of android manufacturers will back them up also.

This is only the beginning they're intent is to bring android down they are in the process of sueing everybody.

I think all of them would rather see a competitor fail. Best case scenario in their mind: HTC sales drop, get hit with more fees per phone, become weak and get sold on the cheap.

HTC is already paying MS for each Android phone sold, if they have to pay Apple too it may become prohibitively expensive to sell them and still make enough profit. I don't know how much they pay MS or potentially Apple but it's a possibility.
Not Android but HTC is a piece of the puzzle. And they compete with OEMs not Android.

IDC WHAT happens to this country. I want to see apple fail today. I want to see the iphone off the market completely. The iphone screams that the owner is an idiot.

Why is HTC paying ms for each phone they sell?

Well, lets Google.
http://www.businessinsider.com/htc-pays-microsoft-5-per-android-phone-2011-5

Lets see what we have here. We have people that wants Apple (an American company) to fail. We have the same people who wants HTC, LG, Samsung, and etc (all foreign companies) to take down apple. I don't follow the line of reasoning.
I don't like GM cars but I sure don't want them to fail or be underdog to the foreign markets.

I'd rather bug HTC for source code to 2.3.3 update
As for buy american, I agree but I also disagree: https://www.insightcommunity.com/case.php?iid=1333 (move down)

'Buying American' used to mean more than buying an American based company's goods ... mainly product made in America. Or at least for the most part. The two might be based (for the most part), as a whole, in two different regions ... in a way. But they are essentially coming from similar locations, in this case; not America / US.
But, hey ... 'merica! *waves mini flag*

At the $5 a handset that HTC is paying MicroShaft, if Apple follows the same model, I don't see that eating too much in HTCs profit margin.

Lets say that Apple makes it $10 a handset. How much does HTC pay for a WP7 license? I've heard $5-10, that makes it more espensive or equal. But then consider the additional costs: a WP7 license comes with IP protection (HTC is spending a lot of money fighting MS and Apple), then there's QA testing that has to be handled by the OEM, development costs for drivers, and then finally design and development costs for HTC sense. Android itself is free but creating/selling a consumer version of it isn't. Is $10/handset + the additional costs too much? I have no idea but I don't think it helps.

I think the best response to apple trying to shut down android would be for every android user to file a class action suit against apple to recuperate the money spent on their android phones, I think there would be enough interest to make apple pay attention, maybe just the threat might be enough, who knows....just a thought

What's up w/ G2 Marketing?

All weekend I've been seeing/hearing the Blackberry Torch commercials, posters and radio drops. It made me wonder, where the hell are the G2 commercials and stuff?
I don't really hear or see anyone talking about this phone AT ALL. It's only when I go to specific Android or G2 forums that people like us are talking about it.
Have you seen anything about the G2?
At least it's up on tmo's home page for pre-order info
T-Mobile is knownto have a SH*TTY marketing team.
They real need kahonas to come out say this device beats everything out there...
someone has mentioned before that t-moible's big boys have limited budget for the marketing dept. I personally notice this too. I don't see as many T-mobile commercials as a few years ago
I think a majority of the people interested in the G2 don't need need to be marketed towards anyway. The marketing would probably help with phone sales, but I'm not sure it'd be enough to make it worthwhile.
G1/G2 users seem to mostly be the techy crowd that has been following G2 news for a while anyway.

One could argue that by saying Droid was meant for techy crowd too, but its not like that. The only reason Android became mainstream was because of the heave droid ad/market campaign that verizon did. No one knew what android was until verizon ads showed up showing how droid could muti-task and the whole App business.
If t-mobile could produce Ads half as good as Verizon produced for the droid, I dont see why the Non-techy crowd would jump on.
As of now the G2 is in the eyes of Techy, Sidekick, messaging users....
I hope it becomes mainstream like droid....
I'm not saying they shouldn't market it; I just don't see the big reason for it.
If people already have service with T-Mobile, they'll see it when they decide to upgrade their phone.
If people don't have service with T-Mobile, they'll typically find out when carrier is best for their area then pick a phone.
It's a nice phone, but I don't see it as something that would be a big draw for new customers. IMO phone marketing is pretty useless. People that care will find out the information on their own or when they upgrade. People that don't care about the features won't be buying it anyway. Marketing wouldn't really let out a big secret, people will see the phone when they shop/upgrade anyway.

Which is exactly why I said it may not be worth the money in my original comment...
Marketing costs millions. They won't even sell millions of these phones, and profit margins on the hardware itself is next to nil. It's not exactly an 'epic' phone that will bring a ton of new subscribers like some of the others.
So, you answered your own question. It wouldn't be profitable to market this phone. It's not going to be a big draw for new users and the hardware isn't profitable on it's own, so why would they waste the money?
Since they're quite obviously in the business to make money, and they surely pay people a lot of money to make their marketing decisions, I am sure they ultimately decided that it in fact wasn't worth the money. Either that, or they just didn't want to make money (which sounds odd for a company that's out to make profit).

I wish I lived in your fantasy world where marketing is always profitable. I have a lot of crap I should spend millions to advertise, because it can't possibly fail.
You should send T-Mobile your resume because you seem to have the expertise that they are lacking. Their marketing department, full of people with marketing degrees that have probably been in the business longer than you've been alive, have no idea what they're doing. You, however, understand that anything with a commercial will be a huge success.
Stupid T-Mobile.
BTW, the G1 was marketed by T-Mobile. Why would T-Mobile spend the money to market a phone that isn't available to new customers? New customers are where the money is, so it'd be pretty retarded to advertise a phone that these new sources of money can't even buy yet. Heck, what do I know.
Why don't we wait until the official launch. It's too early to tell what t-mobile will do.
and you two stop bickering. lol

Well, yeah. If anything, they'll wait on the marketing until profitable people can actually buy it.
Right now only people that are already with T-Mobile can buy it (and wait to get it). They'd be pissing in the wind to advertise it now.
I have no marketing experience (because im an engineer) but If we were offered a gig to market the G2, I believe we can come up with some great ideas.
Maybe someone should hit up Tmo on twitter and let them know that we are willing to do this, lol
lol i second the stop bickering request.
you guys have to realize that they dont have the money to advertise/build hype for a phone that isnt on the market yet. Just you wait, they will start advertising once it is released.

That's just how tmobile rolls.
All I know is that T-Mobile needs to get on the ball. And whoever the hell said marketing isn't a big deal, hmmm... 30 million bucks for a 30 second spot during the super bowl? Nah, not a big deal at all.
There's no such thing that G1/G2 is made for the "techy" crowd. It's ALWAYS about money. They want EVERYONE to buy the phone, not the 5,000 devs out there. lol
But anyways, I want to see some commercials or something about this. Of course it's going to on T-Mobile's website....

Apples sickens me. Douchebags that buy cheap hardware and labor from asia and sells it for insane prices (buying them on contract is better but in sweden we often just want to buy the phone). And clames they developed and done it all by them self.
Even ideas are taken from chines developers.
All modern 'smart' phones look similar to a degree. I just think crApple are wasting their own time and money with this and I hope the US courts get fed up quickly and file this in the bin.

Too late for what? They've surpassed Microsoft as the #1 tech company, I don't really see what's too late.
More practically, these little corporate games have been going on for so long over so little that I really couldn't care less either way. If Apple and Samsung are happy to chum the bottom feeders, good for them. I believe the saying that best describes the situation is "**** rolls downhill and then nothing happens". No loss here.
Funny thing Apple has already or in the process of signing a multi million contract with Samsung to mass produce all of their screens...lol newbcakes then they file a lawsuit. Steve_o and there newbcake law team must have forgot about the screen deal haha.

I remember reading something about this over on Gizmodo, I think their stock price surpassed Microsoft, however I attempted to find the story, I was not able to find it.
I agree with you, Mircosoft is a much larger company. Apple may have beaten them in the Phone and MP3 market but they still rain supreme in the PC OS market.
I believe what is being referred to is Apple's Market Capitalization, which is basically share price * number of shares.
More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_capitalization
And indeed it seems to be the case that their market cap is now greater than Microsoft's, as Apple shares have experienced explosive growth since the recovery of the stock market a couple of years ago.

Its a smart move on their part. They have nothing to lose. Samsung is not going to abandon 7 billion dollars in sales to Apple no matter how sued they are. Apple, if they win, will sue the **** out of every Android OEM trying to increase the cost of Android just like Microsoft has successfully done.
Also, Samsung blatantly copied some parts from iOS, specifically the icons. Other parts of the lawsuit are less obvious.

Anyone who thinks Samsung would turn down a multi billion dollar contract from Apple is delusional. You guys do know that when Samsung wants to build a phone of its own, it has to go and bid on Samsung parts to include in said phone, right? Its not like their phone division says "lets build a Galaxy S II" and then walks down the hall to grab a bunch of Super AMOLED + screens. They have to bid on those parts the same as Apple does. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but apparently LG does the same thing.

You are right on with that and it is not as uncommon as you might think. I have seen it first hand. It seems like a counterintuitive way to run a business, but there are a lot of business practices that seem strange.
Now that I think about it, Sony also runs business like this. Their gaming, movie production, cell phones, etc. are all almost completely different companies. The reason why the Xperia Play isn't called the Playstation Phone is because their cell division doesn't have the rights to use that trademark.

Samsung should start shipping parts to Apple that when the iphone user presses talk, it shocks the person, or just simple stuff that the phone fails after a while. Then people will get frustrated with the iphone and bye-bye iphone.

They're suing HTC because HTC became owners of S3 Graphics and Apple infringes on S3's patents. It's a preemptive strike to force HTC into settlement.
It's sort of a test the waters thing....Notice the timing. If they win, great! Because they get to snuff HTC out for a bit in the U.S until the appeals go to court. This could block HTC from getting phones into the U.S when the rumored iPhone 4S/iPhone 5 is released. If they lose, they can keep trying and tying HTC up...it is likely HTC WILL settle and some deal will be made so Apple is 'safe' using the S3 patents and HTC is safe using the Apple patents.
I'm sure on some level Apple is threatened by HTCs growth, I mean they have truly boomed big time in terms of sales and sheer proliferation of devices. There's not 1, but several HTC devices on every carrier and now they are making tablets too. The price of being popular is becoming a blip on Apple's suedar.
Google isn't liable for any of these lawsuits because they don't make a device and they don't sell Android. Any problem with the licensing falls to manuf. primarily who sell devices with Android on them. Microsoft is also going after device manuf. which use Android because it also owns patents that Android 'infringes' on. Don't get me wrong, they CAN go after Google but it would be a long drawn out mess that wouldn't benefit them in the least. It is better to go after the smaller guys who are likely to settle in the form of royalties or cross-patents with snazzy patents they may own themselves.
In the end, it's just business. It's deceptive, sneaky and ugly, but it's business.
Bottom line, Apple's feeling the heat & very threatened .
Pathetic....

Looks like they sold out worse than I thought.

I think they sold out to Apple more than Peter Chou led us to believe. I am guessing like 20% of the profits from the HTC One goes to Apple. They might as well make sense 6 IOS instead of Android. Apple gets more money than Google from HTC handsets now.

I think they sold out to Apple more than Peter Chou led us to believe. I am guessing like 20% of the profits from the HTC One goes to Apple. They might as well make sense 6 IOS instead of Android. Apple gets more money than Google from HTC handsets now.

You are the biggest HTC hater on this forum... you have not made a single post in the HTC forum that has made any sense.... go away... back to where you came from.... we get it you don't like HTC....
I wish a mod could ban you from posting in the HTC forum

I think it's a clever idea, people who have never used Android before wont be thinking 'Ahh but i can't transfer all my stuff over'..
ppl like him just spamming for fun and hate devices they never looked at.

Your post makes no sense...
So because the HTC One can sync your Iphones contacts/emails/Photos/texts (just like it can for Nokia, Samsung dumbphones, etc) HTC now pays 20% of their profits to Apple?
Please... Tomatoes why do u have a vendetta against HTC?
Your posts lack rationality.

It makes perfect sense. HTC sold out to Apple by agreeing to pay them for each HTC handset sold while Samsung, Google, and every other Android manufacturer continues to fight the good fight.
Now we do not have the exact details of the agreement, we know that HTC chickened out. Now that we see that the HTC One is a blatant iPhone 5 rip off and it has easy synch features with IOS without legal wrath from Apple, HTC must be paying them more than I thought.
See it is common sense and makes perfect sense. I know common sense can be difficult for HTC fans to follow but all of my posts are logical.

What...? Have you ever taken a logic course in your life? You must be a troll...
Also - u realize Apple has more cash then even Google? HTC was targeted from the very start, they couldn't afford to continue a patent war, nor do they have the patents necessary to fend off apple.
Again, not sure what you are going on about. Even if they are paying apple - SO WHAT?
If it wasn't for apple u wouldn't have the competition you have to this date. Don't forget, Googles original vision of Android was based on the BB model. It was because of apple that we have the android that we enjoy using.

So what? I don't know about you HTC fans but I have principles. I would never support a company like Apple abusing the patent system and neither should anyone that wishes to see a just and fair society.
