Youtube 1080p - Galaxy S II General

Hi
Is it possible in any way to play 1080p youtube in video mode?
I want to see the videos but in a TV using the MHL cable, and If I see the videos in the browser using flash the MHL cable only shows 800x480 in the TV scaling. So, I want any mode to play 1080p like a local video to see the output in 1080p with nice quality.
Any idea?

Hi there, you can use an app called Tubemate, found on market. You can select the video quality you wish, and it downloads it to your phone.

I use tubemate its one of my most used apps and you can save mp3 music files of you tube so basic you can download your music from YouTube videos double nice
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App

hi, watch your video in a web browser instead of youtube app, when in browser choose "desktop" mode and you can simply select 1080p in the same way as if you were watching it on a PC. Click the video to drop into full screen mode and voila you have 1080p on you TV through MHL.
Dont bother with other apps, just more faffing, I never browse in mobile mode, I also use full desktop on the S2, mobile browser is too cut down.

Watching YouTube videos

Is it possible to watch YouTube videos on my Vario II? Ideally, I'd like to simply browse to the YouTube website and watch them there.
There is http://tinytube.net/ but I have yet to be able to watch any of the movieclips...
I have used http://vixy.net/flv_converter to convert them and allow them to be downloaded. Not ideal.

i second tinytube, seems to work quite well...plus you are saving the files, not just streaming
So you are able to stream the files?
My WMP says it cannot open the stream...
I use the latest version of Orb and I can search YouTube and play videos.

Oh no, i should rephrase that. I'd rather download than stream, so the fact that I can only download them isn't an issue.
Orb is the key, also you should use Core Media player to play video files.
hi,
what is orb?
the tinytube thingi does not work with my hermes with htv 1.35
Check out Orb at http://www.orb.com

I thought Orb required you to use your full-size PC to find the YouTube video, download it, convert it, and store it on your PC before you can log in to your PC through your PDA to stream a converted version? If that's the case, why not just download the movie and convert it with any other video conversion util?

You are mistaken. Through the mycast.orb.com website you can search for YouTube videos and it will start streaming it over your connection(with the PC working in the background to convert on the fly).

Is anybody else having issues where they get the audio but no video for You Tube videos through Orb? I have tried with WMP and with Core Media Player.
dopod 838pro here. and yes, audio only. no video. hope we get a fix!
Make sure you have all the codecs installed on your PC:
http://support.orb.com/support/solution.jsp?sol=144
Once I did this mine was fine. I believe mine was missing the codecs for Google Video, and once I installed them it worked great!
Just go to http://www.mymobileclips.com on your pc or http://wap.mymobileclips.com on your phone.
Youtube, Google Video, Metacafe, and Dailymotion videos available for browsing and downloading.

How can i download the youtube video after i watch on htc youtube player

How can i download the youtube video after i watch on htc youtube player
thx
Youtube
You can't, videos are owned by youtube.
there is a program that lets you do this. its called GETYTV
search for the video on the phone in youtube and then you can download the video as mp4 or whatever so you can bluetooth it to other people or just show it to other people from your memory.

i think that's not exactly what he meant. i think he wants to download the videos he's watching in the youtube-client. what you are proposing only works if you surf to www.youtube.com via opera.
btw: keepvids.com is a good site, too.

you use the GETYTV client to search for the videos and download them that way, so yes you cannot do it using the youtube application and it uses internet explorer by the looks of it. it works and thats it. nothing flashy

Youtube HD/HQ? Not really

The stock youtube player on the Galaxy S has a menu option for "high quality" when playing videos, while the so called "Youtube HD" player from the Evo rom has a "HQ" button in the lower right corner. These players seem to do exactly the same thing.
While HQ looks better than regular quality, it still doesn't really shine on our beautiful 480*800 displays.
I hooked up a debugger and launched a few videos available in up to 1080p on youtube. The URL requested by the apps in HQ mode is a 480*270 video!
Does anyone know a hack/app/way to stream full 480p glory (or above) from youtube to our phones?
Nobody?
I tried tubedroid to get an impression of how videos *should* look. Precaching sucks though, and I still can't find a youtube app to actually stream proper quality
Attached are device screenshots of
- Youtube app in "normal" quality
- Youtube app in "high" quality
- Video player playing tubedroid-downloaded clip (HD)
The forum downscales images from 800 to 640, but there's still a very noticable difference...
How about the new mobile youtube site? Looks good to me, but only tried a few secs
You mean in the web browser? Clicking a video there will just prompt you to open the youtube app for playback (optionally tubedroid), so same result.

I found no way to select the quality in the new mobile interface. You can specify "always use the best quality for my player size" option in the settings of the non-mobile page, but this does not select 720p videos or higher if they are available.
That said, 480 is good enough for me on a 10cm screen.

The stock youtube app gives you "270p" (480x270) in HQ mode, not 480p (853x480 or similar). Where and how are you getting 480p on your galaxy?

No, they have a new mobile interface. It can play videos within the browser, using HTML5's video tag.

Which browser and what url are you using?
This sucks how can they not allow HD NOT HQ streaming on an android device I mean vids on YouTube in hd look great on my iPhone 4s but I would like to see hd on my amdroid tablet without using the desktop site.

Can't you just change the volume normally? I don't even have to exit the app. Seems to work for me. Anyways the youtube app works well, video quality is great.

[HowTo] Watch videos in youtube with higher quality than youtube's application

Ok, some of you may already know about this but allow me please to make this thread for people who dont know and rely on youtube's app to watch their videos. I was constantly being annoyed of watching videos in the official youtube app which are supposed to be hd but they all would look like blurred and of low quality, although i had selected in settings the HQ (High Quality) option. The problem is that these videos are being played in standard 480p definition and there's nothing you can do about it. Here's how its done:
4.2 JB
1) Install Mozilla's Firefox Browser from playstore (unfortunately chrome does not support flash)
2) Download and install manually Adobe's Flash player from here http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html Scroll down where it says Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0 and download the latest version 11.1.115.81
3) Open Firefox, go to settings->display->plugins and select enabled
4) Still in Firefox go to tools->Add-ons->Browse all firefox add-ons, search for the add-on Phony and install it
5) Now under settings there is an option named Phony, press it and under Select User Agent chose Desktop Firefox. Finally restart the firefox
4.4 KitKat
1) Install Dolphin Browser and Dolphin Jetpack from the playstore
2) In doplhin's settings menu enable the flash player (always on), enable the dolphin jetpack and select for user agent desktop
3) Install the hacked flash player from here
Now you re set. Put the url of youtube, navigate to the video you want to watch and press the little gear in the bottom right corner of youtube's video, select 720p or 1080p if the video supports it and watch it in really high definition. Needless to say that i never used youtube's app anymore to watch my videos as i can manage my playlists, turn on or off the annotations, put captions etc. like i do in my desktop computer
*ALTERNATIVE APP* If you want to stay away from the trouble of installing flash player and you want to use an app for viewing youtube videos you should check the Viral Floating Youtube Popup app. It supports hd playback, a resizable player to run along with other apps, background playback and many other cool features. Check the developer's original thread here.
You do realize all that is unnecessary, right? All you have to do is install flash, run the native LG browser, and switch to desktop view. Youtube will then allow 1080p resolution via the gear icon.
Fantastic guide, being stuck on 480p was not very helpful as many of the videos for me came out blurry and not to the full definition. Now I am able to watch videos I have uploaded to the internet in full HD, thank you so much for the guide and for it to be in-depth, as I hate guides which are only a few sentences. The 1080p will work best depending on your internet, as I have fast internet in my house so it should not be a problem with lag etc.

Thank you, all I did was install flash and then it worked.
It's completely ridiculous that we have to do even that though, I can't believe that the youtube app's "HD" is still not even proper 720.

I ve used your app but i can only change resolution to 720p and not to 1080p as well as it crashes quite often when i press to play in the background. I use pvstar+ now which runs perfectly but it doesnt support hd resolution. In my humble opinion the best way is to watch the videos from firefox

480p and 1080p are now not available in any app since google split the streams in to. 720p should work fine. Can you grab a log of the crash?
You can try another way for background play, press the pop-up icon, then in the pop-up window, press minimise.

I switched to your app as pvstar doesnt support hd. I have to admit that your app is the best of its kind, everything is nicely organised and the best feature by far is the background and resizable player, this app is definitely worthy 5 stars. I understand now the reason that you dont have 1080p, anyway there isnt any noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p in this tablet's display. When i had first installed it some weeks ago i noticed that it crashed 2 or 3 times after some long usage and displaying the same error every time, i dont remember it exactly though, something about "we re sorry but the application has crashed"?. I dont know how to take a log if that happens again, maybe you could tell me a way or i could get a screenshot and report it if it happens again. Keep up the good work mate.

On GPE You need a hacked flash player for KitKat. There's download link in OP point 2, here:
[Guide][Flash]How to play flash video on Android 4.4 Kitkat
Install latest Dolphin browser from play store, enable jetpack in settings and flash. I personally set flash in Dolphin 'on demand' just not to see all this flash adverts on web pages.
Works good on my nexus 5.
Ah, that's it. I have 4.3 on the GNex. Thanks for the link to the hacked flash--it's working. The app in the sig, is "viral". It looks cool, but I haven't tried it yet.

Which app and in whose signature do you mean is viral? Did you scan it with antivirus and it dejected some virus on it?
LMT from my signature was the reason I rooted my first phone. It's outstanding with customizations. It works even on not rooted devices (except of back and menu buttons), you can still make shortcuts to lot of apps to start them from pie.
You need root for full functionality.
