[Q] Bricked Phone? Can't even turn on to recovery and not charging... - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

holy cow!! I think I just bricked my phone... I hope someone can help me.
Here's the situation. I was on the latest MIUI 1.6.17 demonSPEED v.1.2. Everything was awesome! Then today I went to my dentist and there was a sign that said that they are not in today and to call a number. I was about to call, then everything got stuck. I needed to call them, so I just did a flash in front of the dentist's office with the ROM I had on my SD card.
re-flashed v1.2 with no problem and I was about to select "reboot my phone", then I was like, oh i'll re-flash Swype as well... the swype zip got stuck for like 5 minutes during the flash (and I still needed to call the dentist). So I was like, ok I'll just pull off the battery and restart the flashing procedures...
That's when I put the battery back and the phone won't even boot up now. I'm now home (didn't even get to call my dentist yet after all that), and plugged in the charger and it won't even charge now (orange LED not turning on)... Can't even boot it in recovery. Phone is unresponsive to any buttons...
Does anyone know of any other way to even turn the phone on?
Geez, that was the Noobiest mistake ever!! All that because I had to make a call... WOw, I'm speechless thinking of my stupidity! I hope someone can help...
Thanks in advance guys!

Quite honestly dude i dont think you have much to hope for except to call tmo and tell them its broken. If its truly bricked even they cant confirm it since they cant turn it on. Only thing i think you could try is pluging it into your pc and trying to see if the pc recognizes it and lets you run adb commands or something similar. Hope this helps.

I doubt you'll have problems. Everyone I've ever heard of sending in the truly bricked phone has gotten it replaced for free but that's my experience. Most don't have a second thought about it because they know there's nothing t mo can do.

yup, the thing is that I'm not a T-Mobile customer anymore. I wonder how I'm even gonna get in contact with them to get a replacement. I remember from being their customer, that the first thing they ask you is your phone number with them. If you didn't have one, they just said they can't help you... Does that sound about right?

Send it back to HTC. It sounds like you got hardware issues not software. I don't think you even bricked your device.

yeah man, that was the analysis of the customer service rep that was helping me. He thinks that the battery somehow is knocked out... That's why he's shipped out a battery. Just waiting for that to confirm that it's the battery or something else! If that doesn't solve it, I'll have to send it back to HTC for repairs. Probably won't be able to get a replacement with T-Mobile since I cancelled my account with them like 4 months ago already... but thanks for the input!

keep us posted eh.

Dust under screen/ Won't repair

Just thought I'd let you guys know. I just called HTC support to try to get my phone repaired. I read other post saying It'd be a good idea to let them know over the phone if it's unlocked so I did. Pretty much hung up the phone on me there, said they can't /won't do anything, even though it's a hardware issue. If i bricked the phone, I can take responsibility in that, but this is just BS.
Anyone else have a similar issue or way to circumvent this? I'm tempted to just brick it and get it replaced as they won't see the unlocked.
Any input would be great. There is a **** ton of dust too.
How long have you had the phone? I got mine three weeks ago but this dust issue is the reason I haven't rooted. So far I have had no issues. Does anyone have a high Res pic of the dust issue? Kind of curious to see it.

WiFi does not work.

I've just received my complimentary Nexus One from Google, and I'd be so happy if only one thing - WiFi does not work at all.
I tried to install this update to ERE27, but it did not help much. Actually it helped a little, before the update the phone just did reboot on an attempt to turn on the WiFi, now it does nothing (just saying "Turning on..."). Any ideas?
I can't believe Google sends out broken devices for free just to get rid of defective ones...

Did you go into the phone settings' wireless and networks menu? (main screen -> menu button -> Wireless and networks)
If you look in Wifi settings you should see all the broadcasted SSID's. If not, then you may have an issue afterall.

Your phone is f~cked.
Send it back.
Sorry to tell you this. But hey at least I know what you're going through.
And you're lucky I saw this thread, as we're probably the only two people in the world to ever have this issue.
Luckily, I sent it back for a refund and it works great. To be honest, I was STRONGLY considering just sending it back for a refund instead of a swap and sticking with my G1 (man that would have sucked).
I am so glad I did a swap, and DAMN I love this phone. Haven't looked back since.
Nope, you guys aren't the only one who had wifi problems. My wifi wouldn't function at all on my first Nexus One... had to send it back for a new one and the second worked like a charm.

Thank you, guys, for responses.
I've called HTC and requested the repair.
Unfortunately, because it's complementary they do not send a new phone for replace, I have to send my broken one for repair.
Got it back from HTC today. They replaced it with a different phone, so probably that broken WiFi was not repairable. I hope everything works now.

Thanks for asking, wifi works fine. I'm writing from it now. And it seems the trackball did not work property on that broken one too. I wonder the other people who got a free N1 from Google, have same crap?
Sometimes I wonder why Google even bothers doing the device giveaway when miserable sods like you accuse them of sending out "crap". You don't like your free phone? Send it back, buy another one.
For crying out loud - everyone else in the program is exceptionally grateful and all you can do is whinge about it.

so i bricked my phone yesterday. i was downloading a radio the file said it was 2.20.50.19_2 but when i started to load it the ruu program said it was 2.20.51 by the time i realized it was to late.
what i was wondering is what should i do now. i tried to unbrick it but it didnt do anything. all i can do now is take it back to tmobile. do i tell them the truth or do i play stupid. i also have insurrance. so i go that route and say or lost my phone or should i run it over with my car. lol
any help would be great. thanks in advance!
Cut a hole in your shorts and go for a jog.
shouldnt be a problem. Lots of people have bricked them with 51 radios, and since it wont power on at all, they cant get into bootloader to see that hspl is there. No one yet has reported being refused.

How do you replace Hardware Locked Vibrants?

I recently found out that my phone is hardware locked. I hear that people are getting theirs replaced because it's a defect. I tried to explain this where I got my phone about a month ago. No dice. They called up T-Mobile and I could not get a new phone. How did everyone get a replacement? Also, did you get brand new ones or refurbs? Thanks.
Just call tmobile directly. Don't tell them you bought it from someone else. Pretend as if you night it from them. I have gotten mine replaced even though I bought it from else where. The key us to sound like you know what you're talking about and to be persistent. You may get a no can do answer but call again and you'll eventually get a rep that erl return it right away cause they don't know what else to do. Btw always say you have already done a factory reset before they try to get you to do it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
So I say that I already did a factory reset and want a replacement because I can't get into recovery mode?
just call them up and say that you can't do a hard reset and that the phone is defective... go to the tmobile store, they are a dealership and are privately owned, not by tmobile, so most of the time they'll just laugh in your face... CALL them
I wouldn't mention recovery mode. Id mention something like gps not working and you need a phone with gps for your job and that you paid for a phone and it said it had gps when it doesn't work. But still mention that you have done numerous factory resets with no success. They'll send you another. I'm getting my third one and after 3 replacements you get a upgrade to something else or you can continue with your phone.

GPS isn't a "hardware" problem, its firmware related. Don't think that would work at all. They'll probably just redirect you to a new firmware update.

Nah itll work cause I've gotten 2 replacements but saying that. Trust me I'd you get the right repo that doesn't know they will just replace it. Plus after saying you have done a factory reset they have no more troubleshooting steps on their script. Lol! Plus whether its hardware or software related the phone should work as advertised and if it doesn't then that's their fault

told you that's all you had to do i did the same... the newer replacement phones that they are now sending out aren't hardware locked anymore, they finally fixed the problem in QC
That is weird. How come the recovery mode thing didn't work the first time? I think they might ask me why I would want to get into recovery mode. What do I say?
What about people who don't have contracts with them? Will they do it if I don't have a contract? That's highly doubtful.

Also:
So, I say I can't get into recovery mode and they'll agree to send me a new phone? When I send it back, do I do any kind of reset or leave it as is?
Yesterday, I fudged an install of a mod and got a bunch of TwLanuncher errors. My phone is hardware locked and after about an hour, Tmo decided to give me a new one. I don't think T-Mobile will bother to check the contents of your phone. They'll just send it back to Samsung. And if Samsung discovers that your phone has custom firmware, they probably won't care either because the transaction was done already.

Someone correct me if I am wrong here. Simply tell them that you cant hard reset the phone.
I think you guys are over estimating the technical-prowess of the T-Mob reps. They wouldn't know about 'recovery' modes, custom firmwares, or anything. Most of the time, they're gonna take what you say at face value; just go for the easy in. Just say your phone is hardware locked, unable to do factory resets, etc. and play dumb. You don't need to tell them about recoveries or custom roms. Pretend you're a technologically-impotent average consumer fer chrissakes.
Shipping is free unless you want express. But on your second replacement they ship it express for free

Wont boot up after ODIN T-Flash

So I need help. I tried un rooting my s7 edge by flashing the stock files in ODIN, I selected T-Flash in ODIN options because that's what I remembered selecting in the past. Little did I know I forgot to select Re-Partition too. Now my phone shows a black screen, I cant boot into recovery or download mode, but it would seem like the phone isn't shutting off because when I connect it to my PC its immediately recognized and no matter how many button combinations I try it just is disconnected from the PC for about half a second and then re connects. I don't get any response from the phone though. The screen is pitch black and i cant get it to do anything. After flashing I noticed it wasn't booting up at all it was in download mode and when it finished the screen turned black and never came back on. When connected to my PC it is recognized as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5) in my device manager ODIN Does not recognize it and neither does any other application. Can I please get some help here?
Try pressing and holding the power button until the device shuts off. It could take up to a minute of holding the button down continuously.

Well like I said before, I don't like giving out directions like I did if I don't recognize the steps to complete it or if others have not supported the validity of it. I don't want to stray you in the wrong direction. The only thing I think you should do, my opinion of course, is attempt to return it under or try to get it repaired under warranty as you don't need insurance as long as you didn't trip Knox, which I don't believe you did.

Oh and its free of charge since it hasn't been a year of the phones release yet.

Glad you could get it sorted out. Sucks that it will take a little longer but it's better than attempting to follow complicated tutorials that may not even work and may make the problem worse. Hope they send you a new one, just be careful next time you flash anything. Read the instructions, make sure you understand them and ask about what you don't, then read through again to double check and you shouldn't have any problems.

It's apparently covered by the 1yr warranty every phone comes with but why would they not ask for a receipt but whatever I just want everything to go smooth.

The Samsung S7's came out in March of this year, so regardless of when you have bought it at this time it's obviously still within the warranty period.

Oh okay. And what about not having a proof of purchase. Does it even matter for this kind of warranty?

Once the phone has been out over a year where it's not a guarantee that you must have purchased it within the last 12 months then yes, they most likely would ask for a receipt. You're just lucky like that. Lol

Oh wow so its basically just lucky timing, nice. I'm never rooting the phone again all i wanted were better emojis and the note 7 UX and I couldn't even get the Note 7 UX so its not worth it. It's an amazing phone on it's own. I won't ever try and root another Verizon phone there's always little support cause of the bootloader and I always run into something. Glad I dont have to worry much just takes time.
