With Duel Core Phones (EVO 3d, Within) will we Epic 4g Owners feel down?
after all we where the top dog
our phones got us all the ladies
and now we are yesterdays news....
will our epics get us the ladies still or just the older ladies in their 80's?

I wont, by the time Android gets optimized for dual core phones and release, pretty much anyone left with their Epics or Evos will be eligible for upgrade. .

Its not that big of a deal for me, I still love my phone and it does what I want it to do. I'm gonna be getting a tablet next week anyway, so that'll have my dual core if I need it for certain games, etc.

What are you a shrink or something? LOL

No. I seriously cannot put myself in the place of people who become unhappy with advanced technology so fast. If you have the money and motivation to constantly get the newest thing, great, more power to you. But each subsequent phone I get is better than the one before and the Epic is so good it's even made me want a new notebook computer less than I did because it does so many things so well. And its software is still improving.

Not really. The only thing that betters the epic are DUAL core phones (not duel). Android is not yet optimized for DUAL core phones and there are not a lot of apps optimized for DUAL cores yet so the only advantage of saying you have a DUAL core phone is having the newest thing. You're forgetting the other hundred or so phones under the epic that carriers offer for free to $50.
The epic is no where near being an "old geezer".
...... DUAL.

Wow....We need a BASIC ENGLISH GRAMMAR class that should include the handful of basic words that this country can't seem to grasp.
As stated, IT'S DUAL, as in two. They're not fighting cores, has nothing to do with a duel!!! WTF people........Seriously. I could understand if you haven't been through the 6th grade, but I HIGHLY doubt that's the problem....
I could also understand one mess up, but repeating it? Maybe some leeway could be given.....you know...... if one hand't been reading about the DUAL core phones on sites.....BUT YOU HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT DUAL COREs ON SITES.....IT'S LITERALLY SPELLED OUT FOR YOU

The only people who would fall into that category are those whose logic & common sense are far surpassed by overinflated pride & ego.

I am guilty of being a latest and greatest type of guy, and I get yearly upgrades, but I'm leaning heavy for holding off this year and maybe buying a new PC or lappy. I like my Epic that much.

The SPHD700 was rumored two have come with dueling cores (as in too), but fortunately the 1.0GHz core rained supreme in a rather Epic battle over the 800MHz core leaving our phone the fastest of the sprint lineup.
I hope my EVO 3D has DUAL cores instead of DUELING cores.....I'd hate to only be stuck with one in operation. Besides, how could you explain that to people??
...."I had dual cores initially, but they started to duel it out, and now I only have one. I wish they would get on the ball and make the cores less aggressive. I would like to be able to have both live in harmony! Seriously, what good does it do someone to have duel cores, all they do is fight. At times I have great performance, while at others my phone doesn't respond at all. It's as if the cores are so entwined in their duel that they can't do anything else but duel! If core 1 had not dueled core 2 to death, my phone would be virtually unusable today"...

It's all in good fun. It's hard not to fugg w/ the OP when his posting was all but intentional. Besides, I doubt he'll make the same mistake again, and for that I give myself credit. You know, for doing for him what every english teacher since the 5th grade has failed to do; help him understand that a duel is a fight, and a dual is a pair :-D

I share this opinion. Every Motorola phone I have ever owned has been pure garbage. If this processor exists somewhere, please let someone ether than Motorola have it. And yes, I think a dual core would make more sense than a single 2ghz core.

I stream most of my porn, and even with OC and JIT it still stutters.
Motorola apexed with the StarTac. Since then everything they've put out has been garbage, except maybe the Droid.
Agreed also with the 2cores. I would prefer a 1.5g dual core in an HTC over a 2g Motorola device.

And yeah as everyone here, motorola is junk.
the build quality is cheap in certain phones.
But i do not know about the Droid...
but in general i would never choose a motorola...
So my initial understanding of the Dual Core snap dragons was that there would be an Application Core and a modem core. Hence dual core. The modem core really doesn't do a whole lot in comparision, keeps the radio/phone going. Application core takes care of everything else...
BUT - I'll admit for the first time this week I was wrong.
The current single core MSM chipsets actually have 2 cores like I detailed above, the Dual core chips have 2 application cores instead of one, and they have a thrid modem core....
Forgive my ignorance.

Not if the power management methods keep up with cpu advancements
There are ways to improve battery life without the battery technology changing.
Think about it this way: gasoline has not changed much in the last x number of years but there are now cars on the road that get in excess of 60 miles per gallon.
*edit- Although... how cool would it be if they figured out how to get 3k mAh out of the batteries we have now??

Not necesarily as bad as you think. Its just like OCing are phones. The phone can get stuff done in less ammount of time. Then once its done, the processor can scale back to a Under clocked speed, consuming less power. I am sure there is a math equation somewhere that could figure out the power used over speed/consumption based on processor time/speed.
Scaling is an amazing invention.
Yes there would probably be some detriment to battery life, but that is something super phone/smart phone users are just going to have to deal with as we demand more out of our devices. Nothing is free, and digital power costs electrons. /end
Another thing to think about is that these guys are probably based on 45nm or 32nm chip/gate architecture which means it requires less power to open and close circutry. There are rumors of some 26nm Flash memory being built, which means 26nm chips cant be far off. Smaller means less power consumption and less heat.
Rumor on the streets is HTC is working on a Hydrogen Cell phone.... Fill it up with water Given it will likely be years before we see it. But the president did drop rumor of "working Battery less HTC Phone" in a recent press conference. Can't remeber the website I read it on though.
Oh you guys are both right haha. I should have thought of that..
But hydrogen phone? That sounds incredible..

what will be your next upgrade?

been talking to alot of people and i get mixed responses. some like that **** faced windows phone 7 that i think was drawn up by a 2nd grader.
some want to wait for the next gen palm pre, which i may look into as well depending on specs.
epic or evo... these two are on the top of my list!
or wait and see what other droid phones sprint comes out with by 2011. aka hero2 or desire.
so anyways what do you think might be your next move from the hero?
I don't want an Evo..too damn big..and I don't want another clunky phone with a physical keyboard after getting used to my touch keyboard on my hero, coming from 5 TP2's....So..I guess a Desire would be nice if Sprint ever gets it,or a Hero 2 if that ever comes out..A little bit bigger screen would be nice with HD capabilities along with a 2g processor and 1g of memory

Check these out this is why I held off on the the EVO or the other phones from this years second quarter. I cant wait for this.... as for the power think of the dual/quad core laptops and netbooks they have, they have power on demand and then the processor scale the freq back when not in use.

There's an old saying you should remember..
" It's better to have it and not need it,than to need it and not have it.."
Once you go to a larger screen, you will need more horse power under the hood.I have a co-worker who has to have the absolute latest thing out when it comes to cell phones..The guy has about 10 of them and a couple on different carriers..He has a Evo..and is getting a Epick as soon as he can..that's just hoiw he is..but he thinks my rooted Hero is da ****s and is ever bit as fast as his Evo the way it is stock. While I do like the large screen on it for viewing things,to me it comes down to the form factor of it. I just don't like how it feels in my hand and feels ungainly to me when I try to make a call on them..But hey..to each his own as they say.. I don't know what you can oc a Evo or Epick to,but I guess that's a option too if you need to bump it up some

God damn I hate this thank you button, anyway I was trying to reply and I hit the thank you button by accident.
Anyway, I bet you that by the end of 2011 there will be an evo 2 and I bet that by the end of 2012 there will be an evo 3. My point is anyone can make a broad generalization, its all about the specifics. Now if the person said 5 months ago that it will have a slide out keyboard with a 3.6" screen with a 2nd gen snapdragon running 800mhz then thats different.
Related question...does anyone have any idea what Sprint devices will be out in early June 2011 when us launch day people will be eligible for upgrade? Seems like we knew about the EVO/supersonic for months and months before release. I wouldn't mind a 4G tablet...

What? Can you not read? It's not the EVO 2. It's just a different model with a slide out keyboard, and no hardware improvements at all. In fact, it's the opposite of a hardware improvement; it's got an 800MHz processor.
The EVO 2 will probably have a dual-core and better GPU to fit the requirements of 3.0

How many times does it need to be said that the 800 MHz CPU in the newer HTC phones are better. Plus the GPU is not absolute crap.
I bet you the EVO 2 will have the same 2nd gen Qualcomm as the current HTCs. And then two months later HTC will release dual cores. And although I do believe that Honeycomb will require a decent GPU, there are no known requirements.

Don't think anyone is denying that the new internals aren't a step up, as that's obviously the case. But also not quite sure who would honestly see it as a second Gen Evo. I would personally hope that HTC would really take advantage of next Gen dual core CPUs and make a true Evo successor. A man can dream but only time will tell. I would hope to see no keyboard as well...for obvious reasons.

A) Its not the EVO 2 its the EVO shift. You are correct
B) How is a 800mhz processor that runs better than the Snapdragon not an improvement? Believe that it is supposed to have the 205 GPU instead of the 200, that's an improvement as well.
C) If the CPU and the GPU are both BETTER, how can you say it doesn't have any hardware improvements? It should be a sound device, very capable, I'm sure they'll sell a ton of them, I've always thought HTC had better build quality than Samsung, (because they do).

It should have a 3.7 or 4 inch screen with better resolution. Dual core is meh - I would rather have better app optimization.

I will never again have a phone with less than a 4.3 inch screen, I don't care how awesome it may be or cheap to buy
my evo fits my 6ft 5 body very well but bigger is better, heck gimme a tablet that can make calls and will tether to my laptop
seriously 4.3 is the sweet spot, but i wouldn't cry over a 4" screen. HTC whats the haps on your tablet? seriously knock that crap out so we can buy your tablet

Maybe Sammy 4g? I hope this is the 4g phone that is set to be sold end of next month.

Well, if it is the Vibe4g, i'll be damn well be pissed #NeverAgain at Samsung.
Then really, this Vibrant we have are really "Outdated" (TMo did say it is, and not 'selling' this phone because of the upcoming 4g Galaxy S)
Now its an i9000 with 4g
I'm not too worried, I went on my desktop from a single to duo core, then a quad, and now a 8cpu they are coming out toward the end of the year a 16 core......
The point is they will always keep improving and dole out the upgrades bit by bit to max their profit......... that's the capitalist way...... and just think-- We taught them how to do this......
I ll get a duo core when it comes out, but until then, I love the vibrant. It is a great phone

Well said!
When vibrant came out last year, I bought it not because the rumored 2.2 coming-soon update, but for that the SAMOLED screen is FABULOUS, just as any visual animal would do. So when the next Galaxy phone comes out with dual core and SAMOLED+? Hey, I'll be in the line.
I love the vibrant. With KA6 updated through Kies Mini and voodoo lag-fix, I'm a happy man.
Can't wait to see how the dual core phones chew up the battery.
These new dual cores look sweet, but I'm going to wait until the next gen that comes with Honeycomb.
We know that this current crop of dual core phones are going to release with an OS that doesn't even properly support dual core CPUs. So basically a ton of first adopters are going to buy these phones and fine they're only marginally better performers (if at all) than the current single core phones.
And then you're going to read the incessant whining on XDA about "how could they release a phone without an OS that properly supports its greatest hardware advantage," and then when 3.0 does drop, it's going to be weeks, if not months, of whining and hairpulling for the update or port.
Not me. I'm going to wait for a dual core that ships with 3.0, probably later this year. That way I won't end up buying another phone that is gimped stock.
I guarantee, if you buy one of these first gen dual cores, you will be disappointed and suffer anguish as you keep hitting F5 for any news about a Honeycomb update.

100% agree. Not going to buy one tell the next sets of Dual cores come out. with at least HC.
I can't wait for 8-core 128 bit cells phones so I can do scientific computing while I'm waiting in line for coffee! Just kidding, but the point I'm trying to make is to question what advantage it would serve to dump a Vibrant--which has such a nice screen and gpu--just to have a faster cpu. What do you all think?

Have anyone ever think about an Overclock dual core on a phone. My 1 ghz vibrant is now OCing at 1.4ghz and stable and its fast as ever with no lagfix. Just imagine a 1.4 ghz dual core.

I don't think it will come out with a faster cpu about 1 gig just dual which in sense will be faster. It will be more for multi tasking I don't see myself using 10 or 20 apps at once to make use of it.

But the point is why? It is fun to see how far you can push it. But for day to day use, what purpose does it serve overclocking a cpu without increased cooling?

Exactly! It's not a car we're talking about here...
I couldn't care less if they released new phones every month, more choices for me.

making me mad

before my top device comes out, better ones are coming out or at least rumored too...i understand technology but this is too fast for me, jeez at least let me buy one first before coming out with the next better thing...

ps im talking processor speed btw
No thanks. I'll pass on a pantech product.
Is computer hardware or phone tech moving faster
Im not sure what's worse, pantech or kyocera. I think pantech phones would be alright if the UI was better.
Faster doesn't always = better.
Pantech & TFT kinda detracted from the wow factor too.
I oddly like the name "Vega Racer". Why? I'm scared to ask myself.
they look like crappy iphones...IMO..
You need to stop looking at it that way and be happy by how fast the market is going. Would you prefer it if we're still sitting on 500MHz processors like in 2009?
No no not at all, I hear your side too, it just that I would like to get my Evo 3d befirevits outdated by q better processor

The evo 3d uses the same chipset.
I said this a couple of weeks ago. By the time the 3D comes out there will be 3 or 4 more phones with better specs set to drop a couple weeks/months later. Look at the Samsung phone that just leaked on Tmobile.. the Hercules.

The cpu inside the Hercules is the same family as the dual core Snapdragon found in the Evo 3d.
It's not just hardware you have to look at, it's also software. I'm not a huge fan of Sense, but Sense is pretty smooth.

Your point was by the time the 3d is out, there will be faster devices out. You then referenced the Hercules, which will most likely have near same performance of the 3d, but probably borked support from Samsung.
Interesting...but pantech? No thanks.
This epic reply brought to you by none other than my roxx'd out Evo.
Correct me if I'm wrong, might be same family but isn't the 3d at 1.2 dual core?
And I totally get your point, I feel outdated just three months later. Same reason I'm holding off on a tablet...ipad is a perfect example, couple months after spending 600 or so my friend feels like an idiot just a few months later he's considering another 600 just cuz of the stupid camera...

Get over it. Buy a phone you like, enjoy it, and get past the need for having the latest and greatest. Phone envy is a *****. Either that, or man up every 6 months and fork out the dough for the newest on the market. Technology will always be 2 steps ahead of you, that's just the way it is.

Truth.
Not sure this is exactly a new thing, across the board as a whole. Always something better around the corner. And what's there to be bothered about something being better than something you don't even own yet ... ? Whether or not it is 'entirely' better or 'marginally' better.
And talk about not wanting to buy a Samsung device ... but a Pantech?

Yup the evo 3d is undervolted to 1.2 ghz for minimum battery drain but will be overclocked soon enough, just look at the g2 overclock threads to see the potential qualcomm chips have.
After a year with my evo, I believe I can easily wait until next year to upgrade since every phone coming out has specs bumps and nothing else . Just because a better spec laptop comes out doesn't mean to run out and get it.
It will be hard but I'm sure ill hold off on the evo 3d and get the next gen evo next july.
What's the point of this thread? The EVO3D has a better screen, higher resolution, and although the clock speed is 1.2 gigahertz, it will easily be able to overclock significantly higher.
The G2, as someone else mentioned, has been overclocked up to 2 gigahertz. A G2, which has an older chipset and has a stock speed of merely 800 MHz.
