[Q] Different on-screen keyboard? - Eee Pad Transformer General

Hello
I got the TF today from Frys and noticed the OS keyboard I have is different from the one I saw on display.
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or not.
EDIT - Found out it is just the ASUS English (US) Keyboard, nothing too special. The honeycomb keyboard still built-in (English (US)) Disregard this post!

The ASUS Keyboard (US) is a ASUS-themed Swype
(yes that means Swype is built onto the tablet)

Check out thumb keyboard. Highly recommend

The Asus keyboard is not Swype.
In fact, it's "tracebility" is super garbage compared to the real thing.

Thumb Keyboard......just one of many possible configurations/themes

evo keyboard apk for use on the hd2

The evo4g uses a slightly modified keyboard optimized for the giant screen that it has. Since the hd2 has a similarly giant screen and lacks the trackpad/ball the addition of those arrow keys from the evo keyboard would be quite welcome.
Anybody know where to find the evo's keyboard? also is it sense specific or can it be added to a generic froyo build?

Ive tried pushing it, and just installing it. I tried the odex and deodex version and it just force closes. Ended it just buying smart keyboard pro.
I found one and didn't have any luck installing it either. I do find the swiftkey beta in the market is very close in functionality to the htc keyboards. That's the one I use when I'm not using swype.
it worked on darkstone old eclair sense...
smart keyboard pro has arrow keys
Im pretty sure you need the lib *.so file that goes with the keyboard, I installed the Droid 2 keyboard and it would force close until I inserted the .so file into the system/lib/ directory.
Go to the Evo forum and see if you can get an apk packaged to install rather than messing with your system files. It is Sense specific by default: Froyo uses a different default keyboard. I was able to get Swype which shipped with the Evo to install on my darkstone Android build.
Did you managed to find the keyboard files? Please share if so! Thank you!

I spent a while hunting for this last night. Found a bunch of Evo keyboard apks, most of which refused to install & many of which needed to be flashed as an update zip - which I don't believe we can do currently. I tried overwriting the htc_ime.apk & .obex in system/apps & managed to get a garbled version with arrows working - attempts to fix it borked my HTC keyboard entirely.
Found a worthwhile solution though - the Jonas HTC keyboard mod lets you use the volume buttons as arrow keys.

Does anyone know if the Droid 2 keyboard or the Droid x Keyboard has been ported and possible to be used on our Hd2?
The multitouch Droid 2 keyboard works, see the really obvious topic on the subject in this same forum.

[Q] LatinIME on Liberated Aria

I absolutely love everything about Liberated Aria except HTC_IME (HTC Sense keyboard). I hate that stupid keyboard.
I had the original Liberated Aria running back in August, and had installed an APK for LatinIME (the original android keyboard). It worked beautifully. Then I tried Cyanogen 6. Too buggy, horrible battery life, missed Sense. Then attn1 came out with Liberated Froyo, and I jumped right on it!
But when I tried to install either the original android keyboard (LatinIME.apk) or the droid multi-touch keyboard, no matter what I do, they force close. I've tried many different versions of each (I've been scouring the web), made sure I've pushed the lib files to /system/lib as well as the apks to /system/app, but no matter what, they force close.
Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong?
I've been having the same problem

In my opinion, Smart Keyboard Pro, with the Android skin, is a really good substitute for the stock Android keyboard.
Ironic that I just spotted this thread. Is there any harm if I rm the LatinImeTutorial.apk? I don't speak Latin, nor do I intend to use the keyboard for any Latino dialects.
I'm using Swype. Once I got accustomed to it - I can't use any other keyboard. It handles also TAB and arrow keys.

Yes. Latin the characters, not Latin the language...
Remove that and you've removed the tutorial for your keyboard.

You don't need that at all if you're already familiar with your keyboard. It doesn't affect its function what so ever.
Also to a previous post, once you've selected swype as your default keyboard you can use adb to remove both LatinIME.apk and UserDictionary.apk. I do this myself. I've never tried this with any keyboard other than swype though.

[Q] Swype on the Xoom?

Anyone hear if the Xoom will have Swype? Or if it doesn't use Swype, can it be installed?

If I buy it on launch day (leaning towards I will, but holding out on whether the bootloader is locked or not) I will let you know. I'm in the Swype beta program, so I'll try the apk and see what I get.
I'm in the Beta as well. I doubt the version that runs on our phones would port over. I certainly hope they're working on a Honeycomb version.
$10 the XOOM won't ship with Swype (since it has a clean Honeycomb install). That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see:
a.) Somebody port Swype over to the XOOM.
b.) Swype create a tablet-friendly version of its keyboard that XOOM users will be able to install.
I'm none too excited about Swype on the XOOM, however - the Honeycomb keyboard looks great, and if the Galaxy Tab was any indication, Swype just wasn't meant for tablets (at least not in its current iteration - see option b).
Motorola and Google, I'm sure, will offer the Swype dev team some decent incentives to push for a Honeycomb friendly version.
I though about that but even if this doesn't have swype I think id still be fairly satisfied with the on screen keyboard. The gingerbread keyboard is awesome, I'm sure the honeycomb will be even better.
I think Swype will be going out of business on tablet platform with the new Swift Key keyboard that was launched yesterday at the Honeycomb event by Google. No way can typing with two thumbs be beaten using the current approach that Swype has.
That said, I absolutely totally love Swype on my Samsung Vibrant and wish they come up with something just as convenient for tablets...
I tried emailing Swype to see if they would respond, but I don't expect to hear back from them. Maybe they'll show up at MWC and wow us??
nope
No Swype
Swype is not working on xoom yet, hope it will be available soon.

I have swype on my galaxy tab. not as big a form factor as the xoom, but it works fine there. I am picking up a xoom today and will see if i can copy over the version i have on my gtab and get it to work.
I Got Swype Modified for G Tablet that works Great. Flawless for me. Maybe it works on other Tegra Tabs. It was in the apps Section in the G Tablet forums of XDA. you guys can try that
i downloaded slideIt and it seems to be working. i prefer swype, but until they get it working, this is better than nothing.
my observations so far:
1. it's a lot easier to type in portrait - the keyboard is just too wide in landscape.
2. i bought a stylus for the xoom, and i love how that works in general, but especially with the sywpe/slideit keyboards. text entry is so fast. added bonus - no fingerprints!

What stylus did you buy? How's the Xoom responding to it? I've been thinking of buying a stylus when I get a Xoom, but don't know which one I should get, haha. Thanks!

Doesn't work ty for the idea though.
I'm not sure about sype... But Swiftkey is supposed to have a swipe keyboard for Xoom by April I believe... I believe there is a YouTube video of them demo'ing the keyboard.
I'm also interested to hear what stylus you use. I had one with my ipad that was borderline terrible.
Typed this with SlideIT, works great.

I bought it at best buy...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Targus+...504600&skuId=1151337&st=ipad stylus&cp=1&lp=2
As for the stylus, I think it works pretty well. for whatever reason, sometimes it doesn't recognize a soft key press, but otherwise, it works well. It works really well with slideIT in portrait mode. I think the soft rubbery tip really helps (as opposed to the some styluses (styli??) that have a harder tip.
Also, this is where I really appreciate android's double-tap to zoom in. works well in browser and maps so i dont have to use double fingers to zoom.

[DISCUSS] Best software keyboard

Hey guys, i came from the Motorola Milestone, and the only thing i miss about it is the hardware keyboard, and its taking me a bit to get used to the software keyboard on the play.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a better software keyboard from the market i could download?
Thanks

Get in on the Swype beta.
i have always struggled with android keyboards so much so i hate texting now.
that's from about 5 android devices, the iphone one was fine but android sux for keyboard.
Swype my friend, Swype.
+1 for Swype.
I'm a little on the fence with swype.
I do a lot of swapping between that and swift.
I think after using swype for a day or two I miss typing the old fashioned way !
If you try swype & don't get on with it then give swift a try, it learns prediction really well & is probably fastest keyboard I've used for typing on Android.
Tried loads, always come back to Swype.
The only reservation is that it is in the longest Beta phase that I have ever experienced and so is not properly licensed. That means that you have to keep re-installing it when the temporary Beta license expires.
Swype all the way.

[Q] anyone having any luck with swype?

i've had no luck getting it installed and working. anyone else tried and succeeded?
Swype on a tablet its like a workout trying typing going left and right lol

it doesn't seem to work. I constantly am told that it doesn't support the 1280 x 800 resolution that the a500 utilizes
nope. I can verify as well. It doesn't work

+1. Unless they revamp the keyboard layout somehow I don't think it would ever make sense to port Swype to a tablet, as it would take less time tapping keys vs. swishing all over the place to get them made.

Thanks. slideit takes me closer to keeping this tablet. Now if only the other issues could be taken care of so easily

As I understand the OS, the keyboard isn't required to cover half the screen. I'd be quite happy with a slightly-larger-than-phone sized swype keyboard at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks for the heads up on the 4.0 beta. I've been using the 3.0 Marketplace release initially on my eLocity A7 and now on my A500. The 4.0 beta is a huge upgrade and fixes a couple of minor things about it that I wanted them to change.
Best tablet keyboard!
I did not have any luck finding Swype, but check out FlexT9. Closest thing to Swype and it works great on the Iconia.
