Why do people think that paying 12 dollars or so a month to microsoft somehow protects microsoft and x box from this **** happening?
Let's not be stupid here the only reason it hasn't happened to xbox accounts is because they havent targeted xbox accounts.

yep i agree fully . could just as easy be Microsoft

Time to get rid of my PS3. I have had enough.
I think a lot of this hacking has to do with Sony removing the OS feature. The X-Box has been hacked but not to this extent. It was hacked to run pirated games not steal information.

i think sony pissed off the wrong people plan and simple first going after Geo then raiding a guys house over some PS3 info about keys .. dont recall the exact info ..
then accusing the group called Anon for hacking and bring down the PSN ..
getting nailed by the SAME type of hack every times is just plain pathetic
storing important info like custom data .. in a plain txt files NOT ENCRYPTED is a major slap in the face to each and every customer sony has

I in fact DO know how it works and if you are stupid enough to actually believe that handing Microsoft money, that likely doesn't even go to security, is going to protect your account then when it happens ill just laugh at you.

The Netflix service itself has not yet been activated for mobile devices due to a DRM issue and that is why the leaked apk can only assess the system. I know that the link as already been provided to my previous thread, but feel free to post any questions there and I'll try to update everyone.

This kind of stuff pisses me off. It is one of the main reasons that I will not get an iPhone. I have a 2nd gen ipod touch, but my wife got that as a gift and I haven't picked it up since I got my Dinc. Especially now that I'm running Protekk's CM7 Rom
I just hate when big companies corner consumers to force people to buy their products and not someone else's. Too much of that going on these days, especially in the mobile and PC markets.

Actually the issue at hand has more to do with the production companies who would love any reason to back out of their contracts with Netflix and sue them. Essentially they won't let Netflix release anything if it even has a chance of being pirated and given Android's open source nature they need hardware DRM since they can't bake in the software DRM as in iOS and WP7.
Hope that provided some clarity.
i would think there would be someway hide the fact that you are accessing it with an android phone, make it think you are on a laptop or something using silverlight. i really have no idea how this works, or what it is that tells them you are on a android device, but with all the different types of emulators seems like someone could emulate that.
I would love to blame Apple as it is so much fun, but unfortunately this is a DRM (digital rights management) issue. There is a feeling that Android devices are too open source. (laughable since the pc is the #1 route for violating that with access to torrents and p2p). The windows based phones also have netflix. Netflix itself would love to get their app on Android phones as it can only increase business, but they must get past the issue of DRM. I'm waiting patiently as well.
How ironic is it that there was an ad for Netflix in my view of this thread
Anyways, we will get Netflix. I think the demand is too high for them to ignore.

Google Support Knows Phone Is Rooted (I did not tell them.)

I was dealing with an app issue and app store support point out that my phone was rooted and they do not support that. I do not know if I should be concern that they snooped my phone or not but it does seem like a pretty big privacy issue.
It may be no big deal but I was quite surprised. What is your take on this?

knowing your phone is rooted, for support purposes, is not the same as having access to your personal data. at all.
can't expect to have your car fixed without opening the hood, ya know?
and this is the risk we take when rooting, not getting "official" support.

No offense to OP, but I don't think anyone should take his word until there's proof.
No biggy, the app is RootExplorer. Its just associated with the wrong email account. I figured this out myself and they said that there currently is no way of changing the associated account with a particular purchase...so if you buy it with the wrong account you are out of luck.
He did say they are 'seriously' looking at add the ability to move an app to another account.

It could be as simple as the fact that you have downloaded multiple root only apps. It's kind of a giveaway.
I'm surprised that you're surprised by the fact that Google knows your business. If you take a look at the permissions for the apps that come installed on the Evo stock, you'll find that they all have every permission out there... or almost.

Google only has so much power. If they want yo offer some of these services they news to cooperate with Netflix, MPAA, etc. I think some of these blogs/people are blowing this out of proportion.
Tapa tapa tapa
The article sounds a bit hysterical to me, going for fearmongering which surprises me coming from Kendrick who I usually agree with. This feels like those Apple commissioned "Android is tracking you too!" articles that came out during the recent iPhone privacy problems.
The fact that both Netflix and Google are doing this only with videos makes very clear what is inspiring it...they are afraid of getting sued by some deep-pocketed movie studio in an RIAA style vendetta because some wizkid found a way around DRM on a rooted device and passed 100 copies of Avatar 5 or something. At the very least that possibility could make the studios deny their content to Android while still suppling it to tight-as-a-drum iPhones and ipads. That would be bad.
This seems like an altogether healthy and intelligent step for Google to take to protect android's future growth. I can't see Andy "Privacy? Where?" Rubin fighting an all out campaign against rooted Android devices...and the carriers won't since they they know rooted phones are a big draw against the iPhone.
This is definetly bloggers just looking for negative android stories to please Cupertino.

i dont think anything will happen for rooted users.
its what makes android / google so unique, Free from the closed source community.
if they where to clamp down on rooted users it would put off a lot of users, maybe making them switch to another OS.. google dont want that.
Anyway, its our device so its upto us what we do with it, we know that rooting voids our warranty / improves chances of bricking, but we do it still...
android is for the experienced phone user, if it wasnt hackable, i dont think we would like it so much

I sure hope not and I pray that this doesn't catch on. With HTC doing their best to make rooting custom ROMs impossible and app vendors deciding they don't want to run on rooted phones at all that might give others ideas ... First, I know that it is true, but it is not the first step in an antirooting war that Kendrick tries to present it as. Therefore, it is fearmongering.
Second, since all such downloads go through Apple's proprietary money spinner called iTunes, it is a much more controllable environment than android with the market. Apple has pledged itself from the first iPod to be all about DRM....Google not so much.

Here is what i wrote,
Signed/Encrypted bootloaders... Come on HTC... This really pisses me off. Think about it, really, what are you losing here? Almost nothing. It is the persons choice to root, so you lose no quality control.
But back onto the actually point. Signing/encrypting bootloaders or other functions of a device that a consumer owns was considered a radical idea. It was frowned upon and was thought of as childish. And that is how you guys are acting, childish. You lock down your phones because your scared of what.... progress?
I understand there are some problems for you with rooting. For example, free wireless tethering, ability to use leaked ROMs and other factors. But this is such a small hand off to wage war with developers. Microsoft did it, Sony did it, even Apple did it.... Look were they all are now. The hackers do everything they can to make sure they can hack and DOMINATE the devices they lock down. In Microsoft's and Sony's case, there is a difference in reason, piracy. Now, tell me, if I can already install any app on my phone, what piracy are you protecting users form by not allowing them to do anything custom with their phone?
You have brought the whole world a step backwards, as a lot of people believe in your philosophies, and eventually will standardize them. What this about to start is enormous, there is no problem right now for you because people aren't even trying to hack your gay signature checks. Why? Because those developers DONT BUY THAT PHONE. ------->DONT<---- Buy that phone. Now, once that this standdard is implemented with every single modern phone, you guys will be tormented by the constant stream of hacks and exploits the a full force of developers can bring. You will be stressed to the point as the iPhone jailbreaking scene replicates itself to Android devices.
I mean come on HTC, do you really want to start all of this? I wouldn't. By not locking down your devices, you gain more customers(even though its a small percent that would leave because of your decisions), you gain a better view from people as a good company, and you get the benefit of geeks saying good things about you on their blogs. Yes HTC, thats were all the reviews come from, US. We will spare you no mercy in our reviews if you condemn us to this treatment any longer.
On a final note, i hope to rethink your decisions to sign/encrypt bootloaders and other parts of the phone. The whole point of Android is to be OPEN, not CLOSED. Thats what makes it different. The point is to be open, no matter what COST or FACTORS convince you otherwise. I do not even want to buy the HTC Evo 3D now because of your changes. Now HTC, rethink what you have done, please, and see if you can change it before it gets out of hand. In the end, you are the company that gets to make the decisions, but we are the consumers who buy your products.
Thanks so much for a great ride so far HTC,
You will be missed

Samsung has a Forum?
Jonathanpeyton said:
So I swing by the webpage just to see what it's like ....I notice they want you to pay for an app that basically just presents you the webpage.. also you can pay to have them unlock your device.... or you can pay to be a premium member on theyre forum. It just seems to me after I spent 500 dollars on a device [tab] and another 300 on the phone , they might be willing to at least throw in a couple of online extras for free....wishfull thinking I guess...

Um... Samsung doesn't have a forum. You're looking at something third-party.
I tried to find an official Samsung forum after reading this.. There is nothing on the UK Samsung site and Google turns up nothing either, other than XDA, lol!
Are you referring to the Samsung developers forum? As that's the closest I found to an official forum.
I think he has gone to some third part forum or some private samsung forum for developers which requires membership.

And the site is ..... ?
What does Samsung need with a lousy Forum when they have an AWESOME Facebook page? (Massive snark intended).

With all due respect, Sir - do you really think that Samsung offers you to unlock your device?
Got to go now, today our local police station sells drugs - and right now its happy hour!
No offense intended, but I would also like to know what this site is too.
Was it Sammobile???
I find it rather strange that you had a flyer from them within your Samsung packaging, that sounds odd. I just about had an instruction manual! Which country did you make your purchase in?

This thread's stupid. We're having an esoteric debate with absolutely nothing but OP's disenchantment with something that hasn't even been identified. OP, rather than getting pissed off at people not supporting what you're upset about why don't you scan and post the flyer you received or provide a link to the offensive website? Clearly no one but you has come across whatever you're trying to describe.

Well we have to occupy ourselves with something as we wait for Samsung to release the JB OTA for 8013

That's why I'm watching. It's a little like reality TV - you don't really want to watch, but it's too bizarre to avoid. :silly:
FWIW, I respond to or click on every offer in my device's box (still figuring that one out).

I just spent an hour saving my sister's PC from a deadly severe threat virus. That chick will click anything. :silly:
The funny thing was that Microsoft Essentials popped up a warning the virus was trying to take over and she clicked "Ignore" because she thought MS Essentials was the virus. Lol. I mean the warning was scary and red after all.
