System apps missing - Nexus One General

On cm7 , but my system apps are missing, even though I've separately installed them 100 times. The installation process in recovery seems successful, but still no google apps after reboot.

meaning you installed the gapps update.zip correct?

Correct. if i go to setting-applications-manage I have the market and market updater listed but with all the options greyed out. No sign of.gmail or other gapps.

Fix permissions, then try again.
I recommend fixing via ROM Manager, because it appears to do a more thorough job...

Go to the market and downlad the Google apps you want. You're installing the tiny gapps zip and that's what it is supposed to do.

If I recall you have to flash that google add on pack to get the google apps. When you do this you'll reboot and setup your google account.
Go read the initial installation directions and see what it says.

I have had this issue with other apps which I flashed to /system from recovery, flashing successful only to see them not come in the app drawer and then I realized that I had bad sectors in /system and just flashing CM7 eats up all the /system , I have created a thread about that here. may be of help to you.

[Q] Rooted CM7, no market Missing Apk(s)

Hi.
My nook color was on 1.4 (latest bn update), I dual boot it with cm7 following this set of instructions - youtube.com/watch?v=OxDEZ1Fc6iE
when started, the android guy didn't appear and it didn't ask to log in to my google account. in the menu, there's no market.
went to settings - manage applications - there's no google service framework nor market.
I then rooted it instead with cm7 again following - youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0
same thing, no google service framework, no market.
I've dual booted, rooted, unrooted to 1.0, rooted, over and over again but no luck. I doubt there's something wrong with the files, is it not reading/installing it properly? I downloaded the files through the right links multiple times.
since then, I tried all sorts of ways to try to download the apps but nothing works as well. I also tried installing the files individually (google service framework, onetimeinitializer, setupwizard, talk, vending) but it keeps saying "Application not installed."
Once I did manage to download market, but when I open it, it just gets out and crashes.
Is there another way to root it with a sure way of having market on it? or what am I doing wrong?
Please help. ): I'm not an expert with all these things so if you could explain it in simple terms.
So are you running from an SD card? Did you download gapps.zip and put it on the boot partition?
Sent from space
yes, I rooted from an sdcard. I followed the exact instructions on the video - (youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0) Is something missing? Am I suppose to partition the sd? By my understanding, partition is something like splitting the memory on the sd? is it?
Sorry, I'm a real beginner on this.
Well the video you followed on Failtube has you installing to your internal memory. Did you flash the google apps zip while in clockwork?

Okay, I managed to install CM7 and market! I followed eyeballer's guide at forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227&fb_source=message through Koopakid08's link on his/her signature.
There was market on it and it opens. but doesn't start dowloads. I did the usual of delete the caches, reboot and now, it downloads fine.
I then overclocked it with www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mvwmx9qSZY guidance. not much of a guide but i managed to find the files and installed. but it overclocked to 1.1ghz, not 1.3. I don't really mind, but just wondering what I did wrong.. I'm thinking of trying it again but using the latest phiremod 7.1. I used the old 6.1 yesterday instead because I wasn't very sure.
So, now my question would be do I have to revert it back to cm7 then overclock it again? or can I just do it over what I've already done? or must I start from scratch, unroot, root to cm7 then overclock?

You can just install it as an update using ROM Manager and not lose any data. Just make sure the only boxes checked when you update are wipe dalvik cache and backup.

I was about to update it, but now, my google account keeps saying my password is wrong, and I can't sign in. What can I do now? I tried updating the rom from rom manager but it says there's no updates available.
if I were to do it through recovery, I need to burn the clockwork on the sd, put the files in, and just install zip? or do i need to format system and data first?

Go to download a rom to choose the rom you want.
You should install clockwork to your internal memory using rom manager and then you won't have to fool around with SD cards. If you want to update manualy through recovery then you need to wipe dalvik cache and then use the install a zip option. To boot into recovery hold volume up on boot.

I went - Rom manager - Download ROM - Error occured while processing the ROM list/Error occured while Developing Download list
How do I continue? ):
If I do update it manually through recovery, I need to install the phiremod v7.1, do I need to install gapps_phiremod_7.1 as well? the instructions are gone since phiredrop deleted his website. I can't find any other instructions for updating from 6.1 to 7.1
I still can't sign into my google account, keeps saying my password is incorrect. Any way to fix this?
"install clockwork to your internal memory using rom manager and then you won't have to fool around with SD cards."
so thats how it works. hahaha, that'll be great and less of a hassle for me. I've been repeating the burn clockwork, install, flash all sorts of roms too many times.

1. Try pressing menu- clear download cache and see if that changes anything.
2. Yes you should flash gapps again seeing how you are having problems with your google account.
3. I've never used phiremod so I am not sure if that is a problem. I would suggest that you go with just virgin CM7.1 but I'm sure phiremod will be fine too.

Okay, after all the trial and errors, my nook color is finally up and running awesomely on cm7,phiremod 7.1 at 1.2ghz.
Went to rom manager - download rom - phiremod - v7.1 - reboot after that, I had to do gapps again because some files like market wasn't in the menu, but on the homepage. rom manager - download rom - phiremod - gapps - reboot.
so everything is working well so far.
thanks to all the help I received, especially koopakid08!
If you want to easily overclock your nook to the Max, along with adjusting voltage to handle it and adjusting speaker gain and other stuff, look up Nook Tweaks (icon is a nook outline with gears inside). The process is very simple, just make sure you install it to the device not SD (I made that mistake), because otherwise it won't set the CPU speed and voltage settings on boot (even with the boxes checked). I am able to get my nook running smoothly at 1300MHz, but the option goes up to 1600. So wherever your nook's Max is can be found with this app. No need to readjust your kernel, just install the app and go. If you want to make sure that it is working on boot, download autostarts, which shows what starts during boot.

True but you will not gain any performance by going over 1.2, only worse battery life and the chance of overheating.
Sent from space
Well I certainly don't think I know any better than anyone else, its just that I recorded a pretty decent increase from 1.2 to 1.3 when I ran a benchmark using Quadrant Standard. That's the only basis I currently have, but I figured since Quadrant Standard got good reviews that it was creditable... do you know of a better benchmark?

Oh, sounds great but I think I'll keep it at 1.3 rather than 1.6, I don't want it to overheat it or something. I've already downloaded the app and tried to change it to 1.3, but what is the CPU stepping 1,2,3,4,5? I changed it to 800, 900, 1000, 1200 and 1300. Is that okay?

CM9.... What did I do???

I have a question for some of you. I had been doing some research on CM9 for NC. I found a download, ( Though not on this site) along with some additional help from this website.
I installed everything to my NC and low and behold, it all works!! It looks just like my Toshiba Thrive tablet, except it's showing that its running Android 4.0 version.
Now for the drawbacks.... it has NO sound, NO Market, etc... Is there any way to install those? Or has this been the problem all along??
Thanks!
What links you got the CM9 from?
I got CM9 running with sound and market is working just fine.
I knew better than to trust another site, but ... I went to androidfamily.net. It had a "how to" to install CM9 ...
Could you give me downloads you used?
Thanks alot!!!
Check out the Samiam nightly builds in the development forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444943
You basically need to flash three files that are available from there. Latest nightly main CM9 ROM, Google Apps (Gapps) and the telephony-permissions fix.
That will give you market, working sound and best CM9 for Nook at the moment.

Are you connected to wifi? When loading a new rom, sometimes the market doesn't show up until hooked up to wife.
If this doesn't solve your problem, then I would start from scratch. Can you boot into CM recovery? If so, go into mounts and storage and format data, system and cache. Back into main screen and factory reset and wipe cache partition. (so many debates on if this is all totally necessary, but I have had glitches with installs when I have not done every one of these steps in this order).
Install CM9 (I do recommend samiam's build. It works flawlessly on my nook.)
Choose reboot option in recovery. Connect to a wireless network.
Samiam has included Rom Manager in his build. I use this to boot into recovery. Install Sam's gapps, telephony fix and boot animation fix. Reboot.
Hope this helps. Post if you need more detailed instructions.
I don't think you are flashing the right ones or are missing one of the 3. There is a patch that fixes market, boot animation and SOD issues. In unofficial cm9 forum.

I am getting a little confused. When I clicked on the CM9 build....it shows parent directory and then all the nightlies. Which one do I use? I also tried to just wipe it and reinstall CM7... I did manage to get the market running the CM7. So, I think I must have just downloaded the wrong nightly??

Is there anyone out there with the same type problem that corrected it?
Thanks!
From Recovery you want to format cache and system (under mounts). Also format data unless you already have a good working set up and you want to preserve all your settings, apps etc.
Then you should be flashing 3 zips in this order
update-encore-2012xxxx.zip where xxxx is the latest
gapps-ics-4.0.3-sam-noinit.zip from the misc folder
telephony-permission-fix.zip from the misc folder
The gapps zip in particular has the google apps including the market. Note that if you are comparing with the CM7 MiRaGe ROM then that has the gapps in including the market already in whereas with CM9 you have to flash them in separately.
If you have formatted data then when you reboot it should take you straight into a setup where you set up wifi, then sign in to your google account. The market app then should work OK.

Went to CWM and did the above ..went to mounts and storage..format cache and system, and data. After I did this, I hit the power button, once to go back to the screen to install the zips. Now, when I hit that power button, the following message came up 4 times... E: can't mount/cache/recovery.log. Could this have something to do with it??
I tried your instructions again, and No Market. You said that it would take me to a screen to set up wi fi ..but it doesn't. My screen is black, with a clock, a picture of a camera, and box that says gallery.
I am just going to have to go back to CM7!
I think I finally thought it out. For whatever reason when I put the gapp file in my NC it shows installing..but I don't think it worked. CM7...No problems! Have installed twice today and both times had the Market.
CM9... runs great...but no market!
Strange. The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that you have a bad download of the gapps file.
If you haven't tried it before then I'd suggest downloading it again. You should then just be able to flash that one on its own.
---------- Post added at 05:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------
As a double check the zip should be 16,874,937 and you should be able to open it on PC and see the apps files in the system/app folder with vending.apk

I checked, and BTW I'm using gapps-ics-4.0.3 -sam noinit ......my download is 18,275 KB ? and when I clicked on it to check the apps files as you suggested this is what it showed... 3 folder icons with MACOSX, META-INF, system. And then directly underneath the folders were 3 other things with the same words as the top 3 ... NO vending.apk ?? I clicked on the one that had system, and all the apps are there. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Would you tell me which gapp file your using?
Thanks for helping me!!!
I go the Gapps I use from the link
http://sphsolutions.net/android/Encore/Nightlies/Misc/
However, it looks like I got a slightly earlier one (probably 1 day before). I retrieved the current one to compare them. The later one has the YouTube app in which explains the difference in size. All the Google apps are exactly the same as in the one I use and the Vending app is there as well under system/app
If you can't see that folder then there is something wrong with your zip download.
The other difference from the earlier one I had is that it looks like the later one had been put together on a Mac system as it has the extra __MACOSX folder and a few .DS_Store folders which are not really part of the required zip but should be harmless.
Just to check I just tried installing with the latest nightly 20120128 and the later gapps version and I got the market OK.
So two thoughts: either your download is still bad or maybe you have signature verification turned on in your clockwork and that is causing this gapps install to fail whereas the main ROM is passing and also the gapps when you do CM7. I have signature verification disabled (which I think is the default). Try toggling the signature verification menu item and get it set to disabled.
What and where is the signature verification? And..... how do I get there?

Your issue maybe that you don't have gapps installed and it's missing the installer files to install the apk

Does 'adb install' from a PC work?
Many of the gapps APKs are required to be in /system so they can't be installed via 'adb install' or any other method. Maybe the APK you're trying to install has a dependency on gapps.
Google apps, as well as apps that rely on the APIs they expose (mapping is common) are a tightly intertwined mess. You'll get seemingly silent install errors because you're missing libraries, for example. Trying to restore apps through Titanium Backup will similarly fail if they are missing required libraries.
They generally will show up though logcat if you look carefully. Resolving the issue requires the sufficiently complete and self-consistent (sub-) set of Gapps.

Yeah. What a lot of people don't realize is how many apps that are out there which aren't part of gapps, but require the presence of the core gapps components.

youtube stops working after 6.0.1 update

My 6p was stock rooted using the "old" method with modified boot image (i.e. not systemless). I manually flashed the 6.0.1 update and apply superSU 2.62 (i.e. systemless root). The youtube app worked after the first boot, but when I rebooted the 6p the youtube app no longer works -- I kept getting "Please check your network connection". I uninstalled the app, clear app data/cache but to no avail. I even reflashed 6.0.1; again, the youtube app worked in the first boot, but no afterwards.
I've been on wifi all the time, and I could watch youtube from my browser by going to m.youtube.com (and use adobe flash).
Everything else works after the 6.0.1 update. I really don't want to have to do a factory reset. Please help!
try flashing an older version of youtube
Or, is it because two different root processes were used? Thought I read in another thread that causes issues????

Thanks. I tried that but it didn't work ("App not installed"). In fact I tried to install an old version in multiple ways:
* just install it from ES file explorer
* freeze the current one first using TB and then install
* put a copy of the old one in /data/app/com.google.android.youtube-1 and then install
* put a copy of the old one in /system/app/Youtube and then install
Same error message.

Never heard of that -- could you give me a reference? (I'm not disagreeing with you; I just want to learn more about it).
When I upgrade from 6 to 6.0.1. I reflashed everthing except userdata and recovery; in particular I had to reroot my 6p. I assume that would have erased the old root processes? (this is a question)
Please help me get back youtube!

uninstall all updates to the youtube app. then, flash clear youtube 10.43 LP-MM - from here http://teamblackedout.com/Transparent/ . I flashed it using TWRP, it installs as a system app, replacing your stock youtube app. so if you want to keep the stock youtube app make a backup or know how to pull the stock gapp from the stock factory images.
my youtube didn't work earlier, this is what i did and now it's all working right again
Edit: important that it's the MM version (marshmallow) if you grab it from that link

Thanks! Question: How would I uninstall all updates to my current youtube app?
On my older devices, under Settings>Apps>Manage Apps there is indeed a button for "Uninstall updates", but I can't find that on my 6p (or even my KitKat or Lollipop devices). I probably missed it; please help!

Yea I noticed that was weird. You can do it by hitting the uninstall button in Google play. It'll ask "do you want to uninstall updates"
Or from that system app menu you mentioned, you can select De activate app and it'll ask you if you want to uninstall updates

Thanks, but there is a new problem: On my 6p I don't even have the option to uninstall the youtube app!
I just notice that, according to TB, my phone only has one version of the youtube app; maybe that's why I can't uninstall updates? What would happen if I just flash the zip directly without uninstalling all updates?

if TiBu doesn't say "updated" then you just have the stock system youtube. i flashed the team blackout zip right over that system version and it fixed my problem. if you're problem is the same as mine, it should work.

The zip did remove the youtube system app. I then rebooted and successfully installed an older version of youtube. However, this older version (10.11.55) still gives me the "Check your network connection" error, and according to xprivacy this older version got installed as a system app!
When I first fired up the newer installed, older youtube I got a spinning circle on the screen. It seemed to try to log into my account and couldn't; maybe that's the network connection problem it refers to? BUT: (1) the play store works, (2) I've never logged into youtube (account blocked by xprivacy), (3) when I remove all xprivacy restriction the app still didn't work, (4) when I tried to manually sign into youtube it did not recognize my account!
I'm really confused. Suggestions and comments are most welcome!

10.11 may be too old a version. I just know 10.43 worked for me. i'd try that one if i were you
edit: if you flashed the 10.43 zip already, then installed 10.11 over it, you'd just need to uninstall updates to youtube and try to run the system version (which should be the 10.43 you flashed). also, try wiping YouTube app data in TiBu

I installed a 64bit 10.43 youtube apk, but that didn't work either. So I uninstalled it from TB, but the youtube icon still showed up in the application tray even through the app not longer worked when I clicked on it. Instead of using the cleaning zip I used instead the root explorer option in ES file explorer to remove this left-over youtube apk. Reboot, youtube now was really gone from the app tray. Then I reinstalled the 10.43 apk, and wa la, it worked even after multiple reboots!
I don't exactly know what happens; I'm just glad that it works THANKS!

If you have Magisk, use the module. The thing os that Android seems to prioritize the app that's in data as opposed to the one on system. So what you have to do for it to work is get a file manager (i recommend the new Root Browser, it's probably the least bloated out there), go to /data/app, then find youtube (maybe com.google.youtube?) and delete the folder. After that just go back one folder and return again, check that it isn't there, and then go to Play Store and deactivate auto-updates (open the app description, and open the 3 dot menu).
If you don't have magisk all that stuff will work. Just remember that if Play Store updates the app you'll lose it until you reboot

There isn't a youtube folder where you instructed me to look. I think Titanium Backup removed it on it's own.
I might just have to reinstall this ROM, install Magisk, and use the module. Ugh spent all afternoon/evening unlocking and rooting this thing. Almost there.
Appreciate the feedback

What did you do with titanium backup?? Did you uninstall the app after flashing iYTBP?
Try rebooting twice, the app might get replaced

I used Titanium to uninstall the original Youtube app that came with the phone.
I've rebooted twice. Still not showing up in either the App Drawer, or Data/APP folder.
Reinstalled the iYPTB via twrp again, rebooted, and still nothing in either locations.
I'm at a loss, almost ready to go magisk tomorrow.

You didn't have to do that... It might have uninstalled the /system/app one
One other thing. Use root browser to get to /system/app, find the youtube folder. Check the apk's thumbnail. If it is iytbp's then you almost definitely have com.google.youtube on data or auto-update on play

It's the original Youtube App. Interesting. What now LOL? Youtube isn't installed anymore. I can't go into the play store and turn off auto update or anything.

So now you don't have any youtube app on /system/app? Install Youtube via play store, then use Apps2SD or Link2SD to make it a system app (TB just can't) and then flash iYTBP again

Using Link2SD When I click. "Integrate update into system" I get an error "System Device busy or Resource busy"
Update:
Flashed iYPTB again after reinstalling YouTube, and now it's the Vanced version! Awesome! Finally got my phone to where I want it
And yes, I unchecked auto update from the play store

That's the problem.
You need to have a working youtube app before flashing the iYPTB zip on TWRP, but you should clear data and cache of this app beforehand.
PS: I also have Magisk but didn't use the module.

Might just say to heck with it and reinstall everything with magisk next weekend. Working great as is right now though
This is way late but might be helpful in the future.
I've never had luck with the Vanced installer for some reason.
Anyway, awhile back @raystef66 made an installer with the black iYTB which worked perfectly.
Besides installing new builds manually one could also swap out the builds in the installer with a newer one, white or black, I guess.

I used it, it's nice and all but the Magisk module works the same and installs the latest version. Since you use microG you may not have trouble with auto-update, but sometimes I had to reflash the zip if play updated it (Auto update is disabled and still sometimes it just decides to ignore that...)
