NEW Firmware Update: KE7!! - Galaxy S II General

Ok i just plugged into Kies and got the notification for
PDA: KE7 / PHONE: KE4 / CSC: KD1 (XEU)
Does everyone have this update?
And has anyone figured out what this update fixes or adds?
Just so all the people who aren't sure what they getting or, potentially, losing have a better idea.
Also any ideas why the big skip in numbers between KE2 - KE7

Hmm, not showing up for me.

I got my notification:

Odd... I am running the update right now while typing this...
You got the latest Kies intalled?

Possibly not and have to wait for my wife to stop playing Solitaire a minute before I can check. I'm pretty new to Android and Samsung. There definitely isn't a Kies for Mac is there? I can't find one

There is a Mac version on the following Samsung page.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/d...500BAAXEU&prd_mdl_name=GT-S8500&srchword=Wave
I don't know if it will work with the GS2.

It isn't working for me yet. Says I have the latest firmware version with KE2.
It is probably because my product code is FOP. Is there anyone without the XEU sales code getting the update with Kies yet?

And now, as with every update in the months/years to come, I'll install it hoping it fixes the banding issues on my screen, while audiophiles install it hoping it will improve sound quality...
And we'll probably see no difference at all

I just updated my Kies to 1.5.3.10093_82. And I am not getting the update in Kies. I cleaned up my registry after removing the older version. Does that affect getting the update. Secondly I bought my phone from Vodafone Germany.

I'm from Denmark and talking about the released froyo from Kies (JPM) Dunno if all can download it right now, but this is not a test firmware or anything.
oehhh yay.. im anxious sitting @ work now. too ****E that i dont have admin rights to install Kies on my work pc so i have to wait untill tonight to check if the dream is really coming true
You guys are lucky.... waa..
I'm still receiving a "this device version cannot be updated" message!
That could be a problem.
Your Kies should say "Latest firmware already installed".
Maybe someone else can shed some light on that as im not 100% sure.
If it says Device cannot be upgraded it could be a software issue.

Mine was doing this too.. the new update released today (1.5.3) seems to have fixed that for me, although I had to reinstall the drivers as well.
From holland here I updated my galaxy with the new kies version v1.5.3.10093_82
but i didnt update to 2.2 I now have 2.1 update 1 so I ques we will have to wait here in holland for froyo
So much for it getting released worldwide all at once... Sigh.

Yes, should get "Latest firmware already installed" message. But if you get "this device version cannot be updated", that means your product code is "KOR". Product code changed to "KOR" normally if you flashed leaked froyo firmware.
for Singtel, need to change product code back to "XSO". Search forum on how to change product code... about editing the nv_data.bin file...

To be fair the updates are fairly minor compared to the leaked JVK firmware, but at least we are getting something supported.

Same as me But no update for me yet what version of kies are you using??..please.
I've added a couple of pics.
I've got a UK unbranded SGS running JPY at the mo and in KIES all I'm getting is I'm running the latest firmware so no update for me I guess
Same here....JPY XEU Stock
Used KIES 2.0.0.11032_12
Any idea why they would release former the XXJVK firmware in the UK and another one in the Nordic countries (XWJVB)?
It seems to create needless fragmentation in the base-OS and it really makes me question what updates, if any, are in the XWJVB firmware compared to the formerly leaked JVK-one.
what is different with jvk and JVB
Those firmwares support different CSC codes, the ones managing network services of your phone. Every country/region has its own set of supported bandwidth or technology that is why there are multiple versions of firmwares.

JVK - does it mean PDA part is identical to the leaked JVK?
What are the build dates?
I expected few bug fixes, but JVK suggests it's exactly the same (PDA part) as leak?
JPY is still the latest for me - unbranded XEU
To be honest i'm really happy with the phone since JPY, need to keep reading about GB to see if its really any better and worth putting on, unless anyone has a few things to say about improvements over JPY?

"A new firmware version is available"

Just got round to connecting my UK unlocked and unbranded phones4u GS2 up to Kies on Windows.
I've got a message that a new firmware is available:
Current: "PDA:KDA /PHONE: KDF / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
Latest: "PDA:KDD / PHONE: KDH / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
I don't get anything when checking for updates on the phone itself. Has anyone else updated? Is it safe? What's the changes?
Phones4u had their SGSii stock earlier than anyone else and seems to have KDA firmware. Mine from O2 the other day already had KDD as default... not sure of the changes tbh!
I got my SGS II from Carphonewarehouse in London SIM FREE. The firmware I have after pressing *#1234# is
PDA I9100XWKDD
PHONE I9100XXKDH
CSC I9100XEUKD1
build info: Tue Apr 26 09:00:32 KST 2011
I got mine from p4u . And also just had the update notification . I have just done the update . Like other have said i cant see anything thats change .
Anyone got any ideas's what the difference is between the firmware ?
Anthony
Could this have anything to do with the GPS being off for some people? I noticed dk206 has an updated firmware and gets great GPS lock/accuracy.
Edit: Unless its great battery stats that dk206 gets? Seen that many different threads past few days...
Can one of you capture the firmware from the KIES cache when it's downloaded and post it up here?
I see KDF is available to download. Does this bring many changes?
no update available here.
mines P4U stock and on KDA
odd..
Diabolous, have you checked for updates on the SGS2 itself, or when connected to Kies?
My P4U bought one reported as up to date when checking in Settings > About Phone Check FOr Update, but the first time I hooked it up to Kies (yesterday) it flagged an update (KDD).
Can one of you guys using KIES go into your registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\
Look for the number that correspond to your device and post the HIDSWVER key details and Product code details for me before doing the update.

Let me do this now for you. And just to clarify I haven't tested gps properly yet. I have decent battery life 20~24hrs better than sgs 17~20hrs with my normal day to day usage.
Also I did not update anything. I got my firmware like this straight outta the box frim cpw. But cpw has always usually put stock uk rom, for the original sgs anyways.

Cheers mate
This has killed my phone.
CPR is in progress. Transferring the firmware to my phone failed and now it won't boot. Avoid.
Update: It's alive! Samsung's emergency firmware recovery fixed it, and installed the new firmware in the process - without losing any data. Phew!
My Quadrant scores seem to be up a few hundred (3200 to 3500) but that could be the usual variation. I find Quadrant changes quite a bit between runs.

Samsung UK: Do not upgrade to KE1

I just got off the phone with Samsung UK who are telling me that they are going to remove the KE1 upgrade as they have had many phones die on them, which have had to be sent to them for delivery.
I called because the phone would not complete the upgrade, it would hang at the final stage, but it seems strange that its not mentioned anywhere on their website, or no press release about this!?
Anyone had their phones die on them when upgrading to KE1?
Edited: Samsung meant don't upgrade to KE2, I made a mistake thinking it was KE1....
I was fine on KE1 and now moved onto KE2
I've been on KE1 since it was put out, haven't gone over to KE2 due to the issues that firmware has with Orange.
Whoever you spoke to was talking out of their ass/massively misinformed I bet.
KE1 has been deprecated in favour of KE2, and is no longer available to update to via Kies.

Mine says the same thing. Unlocked from Phones4U.
EDIT: Just called Samsung, he said it was displaying this message because there wasn't an update available as the handset shipped with the latest firmware ("android 2.2").
Once again we have support that haven't a bloody clue about the product they're meant to be helping with.
Mine is unlocked from phones4U and kies says that KE1 is the latest firmware. I remember a few days ago, kies detected that I was able to do a update to KE2, but I did not upgrade at the time because people were saying there were some problems with crashing. But now I cant upgrade?

I'm running an O2 branded SGSII on T-Mobile.
It's been updated to KE2 via kies and rooted using the insecure KDD kernel then the stock KE2 kernel reapplied.
I thought I've plugged it into kies and seen the normal Latest firmware message AFTER I'd rooted and reapplied the stock kernel, but maybe I'm misremembering that and this is what's causing Kies to say no update is available ?

This happened to me when attempting to upgrade from KE1 to KE2. I only tried once and having read the issues with the other guys on orange i sacked it off.
KE1 is fine for me tho
I can see the pic I attached earlier fine? anways Samsung must have meant dont upgrade to KE2 then (being the latest firmware).
Especially as I cant see that as an update anymore on Kies, only KE1....

What network you on, is it KI4 2.3.4 or 2.3.5?
Just checked on my unbranded (XEU), Kies says my firmware - KI4 2.3.4 is the latest
From FUS Downloader
Product Code: GT-I9100LKAXEU
Latest firmware: I9100XWKI4/I9100XEUKH2/I9100XXKI1/I9100XWKI4

Filename: GT-I9100_XEU_1_20110916084335.zip.enc2
Its an unlocked phone from p4u unbranded and I'm on three, but theres no sim in the phone when I've connected. I've not downloaded it yet its still plugged in an showing. I didn't really want to be first trying it because my phone has no problems and I don't want to lose the 5x4 icon setup unless I'm forced too and I don't know whether this will do that to my phone. By the way its never been upgraded yet from its original rom of KE7 KE4 KD1.
Firstly Kies wont remove any of your apps/settings, if you have rooted the phone you will lose this. It sounds like you are being offered the upgrade to 2.3.4 which has been out a while. 2.3.5 is the one we are waiting on which is a different KI4.
Is there anyway I can check for you without going through with the full upgrade, the other day I handled a new galaxy w in p4u and that had 2.3.5 in it I took a photo of it, every write up and comment on that phone says 2.3.3. Lets hope things have moved on, but as I said in op didn't really want to try it first.
See attached
Thank you. I've been reading about the Kl4 in the discussion thread thats not officially out , I don't supposed you would care to comment on whether its worth my upgrading, whats the balance of losses and gains you find in this release as apposed to the one I've got.
It's up to you whether you want to upgrade the fw, if you're on 2.3.3 I would do it, we could new waiting a while for Samsung to release 2.3.5 on kies for unbranded phones.

It seems to me that it is faster than KI3 and with better battery life.
The only difference is that it is official now!
Happy flashing!
The XXKI4 is not the same as the XWKI4. Both have been available in the firmware thread in the dev forum a while now.
Thanks for that. I have flashed and had the fastest kies flash ever. Thanks for the info.
