[Q] HTC Touch HD Battery Drain - Touch HD General

Hi guys i have some serious battery drain on my new touch hd, last night the phone had 40% and this morning it was dead, this is with a brand new high capacity 2400mah battery, i have data turned off as well as the screen.
I am running stonehenge 6.5 rom with cookie home tabs.
anyone got any ideas?
cheers, thedexter

change rom

turning off the display and wireless connections is one way to save power, but still the battery usage can be easily estimated by having a look at the cpu and ram usage. i for one use the stock rom, and when there are no apps running in background, my ram usage is at 35%, given that you are using wm6.5 and cht, i guess it would revolve around 60-70%, so indeed, to save power, a rom change might be helpful.

thanks for the suggestions guys
flashed a new rom version and downgraded radio to 1.14 and battery life was about the same, then i followed the battery calibration wiki and charged the phone whilst it was switched off and my battery life is looking much better.
cheers, thedexter

Poor Battery Life with WM6.5+Manila 2.5 or bad flashing

Hi guys
Just flashed the EnergyRom of Sept 23 yesterday - after playing with it all day incl the flash yesterday I drained the whole battery but that was kinda normal using WIFI a lot
Well I charged it last night and after it finished I switched off cos i dont use my mobile at night - now my phone has been on for nearly 12 hours only and merely used it to send a couple sms but its already on 60%
Is this due to the WM6.5 + Manila 2.5 combo cos its heavy on the RAM or did I do something wrong wen flashing?
I did hard reset twice before using the ROM - maybe nother hard reset will help? Any suggestion
Cheers
TC,
What else is running in the background? Is bluetooth constantly turned on? Is Wi-Fi constantly turned on? What mode are you in, 3G, GSM, etc? What is your screen brightness setting? Is it on auto, or do you have the brightness on manual?
How long before your screen turns off? How long before the backlight dimms? What applications have you installed?
A lot of factors come into play when you talk about battery life.
Cheers.

Hi,
I have no programs running in the background and have only installed two games and clean ram app
All connections (bluetooth, beam, wifi etc) are off
Im in 3G mode but its currently connected to EDGE (on duttys 3.9 ROM it was like this and sometimes i would find my phone connected to E and sometimes to 3G)
Brightness is on manual and more or less 4/10s of the brightness (my phone has been in standby a lot today)
I manually put the phone in standby when Im done using my phone
I use "clean ram program" sometimes (not today) after extensive use like WIFI and Games and my RAM is currently at around 60% and battery life fell by another 5%
And which ROM is it? I used the latest Energy 6.5 ROM for a bit and it was very heavy on the battery. Using 40-50% of the battery during the day. And that was with no WiFi or Bluetooth. Was just using the phone/text and a wee bit of email/web.
Cheers

The guy who makes the EnergyRom put in previous versions, that it's a Ferrari rom, meaning it's fast but burns through a lot of gas (battery life). I used a rom from him as well, and it ran great, but my battery life was crap. I then decided to flash Dutty's latest rom about a couple of weeks ago, and it's been running great, AND has great battery life.
ah ic - I saw it had great performance but didnt notice that it was heavy on the battery
it is his latest ROM - thanks for the feedback
Also now using Dutty's latest ROM. Only issue is Home button doesn't really do much. Otherwise fantastic.
Cheers

From 90% I am down to 20% by 1700h. I carry an extra battery around everywhere now since upgrading to WM6.5

Battery drain after 6.5

Hi all
I recently upgraded to WM6.5 (stock rom, TD2 on Orange UK) and have found that my battery life has reduced dramatically from 2-3 days use to less than 1 day.
I'm not using bluetooth or wi-fi and have tried to remove anything else that may be draining the battery.
The one big difference I have noticed between 6.1 and 6.5 is that I am getting a much stronger signal, 4 bars H compared to 1-2 bars H or 3G before. Could this be a cause of the battery drain?
Also, my memory usage is around the 70-80% mark whereas before it used to be between 40-60%. I have checked task manager and nothing seems to be running in the background.
I would appreciate any advice as this is really spoiling my experience with this fantastic device.
Thanks
Jeff
The wm6.5 you upgraded to is an official rom through Orange? If so, it's probably crammed with unneccessary apps (bloatware) which might explain the memory usage. The Radio ROM was probably upgraded at the same time, which explains why you appear to get a stronger signal (the newest radio roms show more bars, though the actual signal stays the same).
Maybe you would be better with one of the "lean" cooked 6.5 roms? (you need to hardspl first with olinex 1.83)
The higher signal reading wouldn't cause the battery drain, it's more likely something is "waking" the phone from suspend periodically.
Battery life lasts 2-3 days? And 40-60% memory usage on 6.1?!
Wow, I wish my D2 was like that. Mine almost lasts one entire day, and memory usage is always near 70%. I haven't done 6.5 as arabic isn't out for it yet and I need it to read the damn messages companies send.
Hi. I think I might have the same problem with battery after upgrading to official 6.5 WWE. With official 6.1 my battery lasted 2-3 days. Now around 1 day. Also my memory usage went from 50-60% to 70-80%. Then I instaled HTCPedia Topaz settings tool and with some tweaks memory usage droped again to 40-50%. But battery problem still remains. Hmmm I also installed FInixNOverBatteryIcon and then gtrab Batt enhancer. Maybe any of this two apps cause problems with the battery?
I have the ATT Pure and recently DISABLED the auto rotation for TouchFlo 3d. It is disabled by default but I decided that was one of the first things I wanted to change after getting the phone.
So far today, my phone's battery has lasted much longer. We'll see what happens by the end of the day but so far so good.

That's really strange, mine is never over 50% except when I have WMP running or watching movies via CorePlayer or inbuilt videoplayer.
I used the upgrade from the HTC site, so no Orange bloatware.
Memory currently running at 85% even though nothing seems to be running, battery not even making it through the day with just light use, i.e. a bit of surfing, couple of calls and a few texts.
I'm going to try it with the Sense off tomorrow.
Can't beleive the difference between 6.1 and 6.5, its like 2 different phones, and it seems quite a few people are having similar issues.
Is it easy to go back to 6.1?

Afraid I'm getting the opposite - much better battery life.
As an aside, previously I was using Garmin XP satnav and haven't got around to re-installing it yet so thought I'd give CoPilot a whirl. Downloaded the maps and tried it on a 30 min journey tonight. Worked pretty well but the battery drain was much less. 100% down to 90% after 30 mins. Before with Garmin XP, it would pretty much drain the battery in an hour.
Not sure this is an core improvement to GPS battery life in 6.5 or because CoPilot has a lower battery drain.
Cheers, Rob.

im having the exact same problem and im also interested in going back to 6.1 (the good old days when i didnt have to mess around with my phone for hours per day just to get it to function as expected eh!) 6.5 is so frustrating and can i ask what the point is of the honeycomb?
had my d2 since CW stocked it in april, and was fine until 6.5.
Hmmm...An hour ago my topaz was full charged. I made two calls while phone was pluged in. Before I unpluged it I checked battery information. Everything was ok. Time of last full charge half an hour before, standby time, call duration and device usage. Then I unpluged the phone and the time of last full charge changed to the second I unpluged the phone and all other values went to 0. Ok. That seemed ok because of talking some minutes before. I was happy and I tought now it would be OK. But 5 min ago I checked the status again...and guess what...last full charge is "Not applicable" and all other values are set to 0. sad sad sad
I'm getting major battery drain after I upgrade to the official wwe 6.5 rom as well. It's unpredictable though. Several times in the past couple weeks i've barely made it halfway through the day, then other times it's fine. I can't see any difference in what's running. This never used to happen with 6.1.
I'm getting the opposite. really much better battery life after upgrading to wm 6.5 on my diamond 2
Currently running official htc wm 6.5, ROM: 2.16.412.1 (67041) and RADIO: 4.49.25.17
Profiling Tools
Hi,
I upgraded to Dutty's 6.5 ROM - it seemed like the charge lasted for a full day but for the last couple of days battery performance has been pathetic. I checked the task manager - nothing seems to be out of place - memory usage is around 50%. I have two emails accounts set to pull items as they arrive and weather/facebook data is also pulled at regular intervals. Despite these the charge used to last for more than a day...
I am wondering if there are any tools which can show me the CPU/Memory usage by various tasks over a period of time... The phone is always warm for the last couple of days and the home screen animations are stuttering...
Any Suggestions????
TIA

Wallpaper and Battery Drain
Found the reason why Battery Drain increased in my TD2 Running Dutty's Wm6.5 ROM suddenly. Hard to believe but its because I have the weather animation wallpaper turned on and I changed the background to a bright colorful one (something that came with the ROM - i believe its a stock wallpaper!!)
I am not sure how (probably because of more processing required to overlay the translucent clouds over the bright red wallpaper) but this increased battery drain tremendously. Battery did not last for 3/4th of a day.
I have now switched back to the dull black wallpaper and the drain is back to the original rate (last for 1.5 days with all the other features turned ON (no 3G))...
Others, please check this out - maybe this is a common problem
--Ashwin
I upgraded to the official HTC 6.5 ROM and have the same issues with the battery barely lasting a day. If only that was the least of the problems.
Configuration is similar to my 6.1 build, except on this I've disabled the HTC Sense front end as I thought this might be responsible for the slow performance and battery sapping, unfortunately no different :-(

What does this mean? Your battery lasts longer with this setting off?
I can confirm after 3 days, Dutty ROM Holly Grail R6 WWE TP drastic improvent battery life, but i think, it is not only because he back from 2.18 on 2.16 base ROM, have here some Duttys wizard make... However, device now "can live" 2 - 2,5 days with normal using.
For other people who have problem with high battery draining, maybe one very usefull app, author is member xda developers forum:
Battery Guard v0.0.1.3
Regards
My battery life is longer on 6.5 than when on 6.1 (stock roms) and I only noticed that I Had substantial battery drain when I had the camera still running in the taskbar in the top right... that rinsed my battery down in about 2hrs to zero.

Rom for max battery life

I've tested almost every new ROM released for the TG01, but they all give varied battery life, for example any roms with sense give a dreadful life whereas a stripped down rom gives lots
i wanted to know which Build/ROM gives the best battery life and also whether 6.1 was better for endurance
thanks!
ps, one quick question, does anyone else experience a 50% battery drop after 30mins-hour browsing?
according to the second question, I have it after 5 mins of usage
I think the same for less battery life in all new rom i ve tested.
when i got my tg01 it was on orange uk wm6.5. after that i have tested several ROMs by ffboy and novembre and all give same battery results. i have not used any ROM with sense or manila stuff as i don't like it much. for my device around 4 hours browsing brings battery to 50% level.

Just want to know:
-Browser you are using
-Power Settings
-Connection Type? Wifi, edge, 3G or HSDA?
thanks
using opera 10
with low everything
and constant 3g/H i lose 50% in a matter of 30mins
I think the power consuption on browsing the internet comes from toshiba settings, after having a butchers and seeing 'Toshiba Browser Settings' it says 'High Speed Browser - if activated. battery consumption will increase'. maybe this is our problem when browsing? I have just deactivated it, so i'll post some results in 30 mins.
I have aRag0n85's ROM with sense and I need to say, that after 30min battery gets to 50%, but there is one thing.
After turning off wifi for a while and power off for a few seconds battery level goes up around 20%
I have settings set for max power.

[Q] bad battery life on my hero

Hey guys, i have a problem concerning the battery life of my HTC Hero with FroydVillain 1.7.3 (Android v2.2.1)
In the last couple of days my battery goes down by 10-12% per hour without even touching the phone. I tried factory reset, wiped sd card and reflashed, flashed CM7 but still the battery issue didn't go away.
I charge it 100% before i go to bed at 11.30 and when i wake up at 7 the phone is completely powered off..
The thing that consumes my battery is the process "Android OS". I read about it on the internet, but all threads were SGS2..
The strange thing is that it's CPU usage time according to the battery stats is 1h 21m after 3 hours of sleep.. Is this normal??
I have everything turned off - wifi, gps, mobile data, auto sync, background sync and still the drain continues.
Has anyone had this kind of issues and possibly a solution?
Or should i buy a new battery?

I have also been experiencing battery issues with Froyd lately, but not to the same degree as you are. My solution was to wipe and install another 2.2.1 based ROM. This new ROM is acting normally in terms of battery life.
With Froyd, my battery was acting "weird" in terms of overall battery life. Once I got about 3 good discharge / charge cycles in a row things seemed to improve.
Another thing to consider is did you recently install any new apps? Some apps don't play nice and cause the phone to not enter sleep state OR cause excess CPU usage.
Some people might say "wipe battery stats" but some Google Engineer / Developer has recently dispelled that myth... https://plus.google.com/u/0/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT
Good luck!
It's not from any app. Last night i wiped my sd card, wiped everything from recovery and flashed Froyd. I used it all day without installing anything besided battery graph to monitor my battery usage. it's something from the OS itself i guess..
The funny thing is that it seems that in the past two hours the drain has disappeared and now the battery is reducing by ~1% per hour and i haven't done anything during that time, except 2 calls under a minute each and 1 sms.
How old is ur battery? Did you consider that it might be physically related? Not because of the processes or so?
One more thing I noticed - if I charge by ac outlet, it charges faster, and lasts longer, if I charge by computer usb port, it charges really slowly and battery drains way faster... I don't know about battery life, maybe from ac outlet it dies faster, but 2 years of using it and still 1.5 day of normal use...
Thanks for the replies guys! I found the problem, it was my radio.
I flashed the latest radio and now my hero's battery life is better than before!

Looks like you have a battery problem. OS does not really kill batteries, you can see more or less the same performance if there are no background apps eating your power.
Check these batteries for your Hero. These are top quality and many users vouch for them.

[Q] Dramatic battery drain (Hyperdroid 5.9.0)

Hi everyone,
I have used an older version of Hyperdroid over the past few month, which worked very well for me overall. Usually the battery managed to last a couple of days.
However, after I tried some different Android NAND Roms on my HD2 yesterday, I reinstalled the latest version of Hyperdroid (HyperDroid-CM7-Observant-Opossum v5.9.0) and noticed a dramatic increase in battery usage.
It drains about 10% in less than an hour without using it.
- WLAN off
- mobile data off
- Blutooth and GPS off
Androids battery use overview lists:
Display 35%
Cell-Standby - 33%
Idle 29%
Wi-Fi - 4%
There are barely any additional apps installed.

Install currentwidget and place a widget on your homescreen. Tell us the battery drain when the screen is off by setting the refresh interval to around 20, leaving the phone to settle in standby for a minute or so and unlocking it and giving the drain immediately displayed (don't wait for it to refresh again) and it should be around 4ma with everything but the phone function itself turned off. Try it in airplane mode as well, here it should be around 2ma. If you mean high drain with the screen on then you're just going to have to live with it unfortunately.

Yes i would definately check sleep drains. But if its when your phone is on, it may also be an update in the CPU governor settings. I would switch to conservative. Especially if you dont game a lot. You can also try changing your CPU voltage levels.
What's your kernel and governor? Any OC? Maybe the kernel isn't allowing deep sleep.

did you do a clean install?did you wipe your battery stats?
if you post some more info about your device then we can help you even more.
i would try changing the governor and then battery calibration (you can find it on the market). i had this rom and if i remember correctly there were some issues with my battery too. i then got the 5.10.0 version and everything became normal again.
or you can upgrade to the latest version 6.0.0. i just installed it runs smooth as hell!!!
good luck!
Even I'm using the same rom and the battery drains heavily only when using applications and playing games. But can anyone help me how to upgrade it to version 6.0 with detailed instructions.
