Upgrading from 6.1 to 6.5 - Windows Mobile

I have cooked a few roms for my diamond using the HTC WM6.1 1.93 release as a base. But i'd like to try Titanium and I gather i'd need WM6.5.
I have downloaded OEM xip kernel, SYS_23563_192DPI_0409, SYS_23563_Common and SYS_23563_XIP.
Please could someone give me some idea of what to do with these folders.... I use EVK 12.5.8

first thing is port the SYS (common and DPI 192),unpack this two archives then useing the Packer.jar you will create a new SYS for youre build, next you will need some OEMDrivers(the touch.dll for WM 6.5) and a OEMXIPKernel (the nk.exe for WM 6.5) and last but not least the MSXIPKernel,in ROM/Shared (just create a new folder and copy the content of SYS_23563_XIP.

Thankyou so much for your reply.
I have just built my first wm6.5 rom and will attempt to flash in a minute.
The only thing i'm left slightly confused about is a few bits in the OEM folder.
OEM/DIAMOND/COMMON/OEMVERSION/mxipupdate_OEMVERSION_100.provxml
It reads "ROMVersion" value="1.93.401.2"" Surely I should have a second file for wm6.5?
Also in ROM/DIAMOND there were a load of files in the OEMXIPKernel I downloaded that wanted to overwrite some existing files.... namely info.txt, ROMHdr.bin, xip.bin, os.nb.payload.
I didn't let them overwrite but do I need to keep both sets of files?

the part with the rom version, you can modified as you wish ,yo can put you're name in there(PS: dont modify the phones ID or things like that)...then,you don't need the info.txt files anymore, delete them(PS: don't delete them if you are trying to build a new XIP.bin).If it says to overwrite.overwrite them with the new ones.Because the xip.bin,os.nb.payload,and the ROMHdr.bin are the old build files.so you need to replace them with the new ones, but you need to make a backup, just to be shure...or if you dont have the xip.bin and also the os.nb.payload for the new build you have to create the xip.bin with XIPport.exe and then we use again the XIPport app to inplant the new created xip.bin in the OS.nb.payload...that its a little tricky even i can do it properly

EasyPortOven V2.2 [Updated May 11 2008]

This is a release for my ROM porting kitchen. It ports both XIP's and SYS folders. It currently supports the following:
Herald
Wizard
Prophet
Kaiser
Elf/Elfin
Hermes
Zinc
Athena
http://www.darthnet40.com/xda/ivanmmj/Kitchens/
(You will need 7-Zip to open the file.)
This is compatible with Bepe's extended kitchen, but I don't believe he ever released one for every device out there. It requires a ROM folder with an extracted XIP folder within it. Just download the Herald's and you'll see what I mean. The ONLY tested section has been the Herald section as that's the only device that I have.
If your device is compatible with Bepe's kitchen or my kitchen, it will automatically launch the kitchen right after.
Instructions:
Delete your old SYS folder
Place the SYS file you wish to port into Working_Folder
Place your xip.bin that you wish to port into the Prepare folder
*Note: Close the XIPPort program after pressing "Make Packages." The script will take over after that.
You should not have a Working_Folder with an OEM, SYS and XIP folder (and a Tools folder if you have Bepe's kitchen, even more if you have my kitchen.)
Double click on the RunMe file and choose your device.
For those who have a kitchen:
Place bepe's kitchen in the Working_Folder (so that OEM/SYS/ROM and other folders are right within Working_Folder.) Alternatively, you can place also place all the files into EasyBakeOven's folder. Allow the Working_Folder to override EasyBakeOven's Working_Folder. You will not loose any data but will bypass a few "info" scripts. This will not cause any problems.
Obligatory Warning Label:
Use this at your own RISK. I cannot be held liable for any damage caused to your device by your own mistakes or by my mistakes in the instructions.
If you wish to know how to do this manually, head over to my HowTo thread.
Thank you's go to:
Bepe for his Extended kitchen and Herald/Atlas files
ababrekar for the elfin files
l3v5y and xvx45 for the Prophet files
character and ginminded for the Wizard files
Script for the Kaiser files
tjkhattak61 for the Atom Exec files
cruzzmz for the Zinc files
caxio for the Hermes files

Woo! I've failed to find a link for this up till now, but now I can cook some new ROMS!!
One thing, the read me doesn't include some of the more reason compatibility improvements...
Welcome to EasyBakeOven!
Devices supported:
Herald/Atlas
Wizard
Note: Make sure that the XIP in your recieving folder has been extracted already (You should have a ROM folder with a XIP folder inside it.) This is not an issue if you're using Bepe's Extended 6.1 kitchen or my own JustClean EasyBakeOven.
Thank you's go to:
Bepe for his Extended kitchen and Herald/Atlas files

Just for being nice to me, here you go!
That's the newest official build. Be careful of anything "newer," they're fakes.
It's the one labeled 19213.7z
You'll need 7Zip to open the file. In it as the xip.bin and the SYS folders.
Yay!!!
Porting time!
I have one feature request!
Would it be possible to build a feature in that cleans out the folders before porting?
I think I'll test later cause actually I'm in exam but I think it work, I'm on the same device as l3v5y so I'll make my test and maybe take to you Artemis files (my other phone)
Thank for your hard work
Great tool ivanmmj.... I have a few questions. I guess I don't fully understand the process.
I've been able to get the XIP folder, os.nb.payload and romhdr.bin files from a KAISER rom... plus I used the .VM and WinCENLS_WWE folders from a working HERMES rom, but I can't seem to get past the second boot screen. A question I had is... do we use the os.nb.payload and romhdr.bin we got from the KAISER? or do we use those from a working hermes rom? and the XIP directory, do we need to change anything in there? or is just extracting it out, enough to work?
Thanks in advance.
Awesome tool, looks like a dummy can me even port ROM's will try it out sometime. Thanks bunches!

Already ahead of you. Today I noticed that I tend to leave a mess behind. lol I'll have it remove the files before replacing them, then I'll have it delete the extra files created during the process when it's done. (This part is already ready but I just haven't uploaded it. The removing the files before replacing them, I haven't done so, yet. Although this might not really be needed. Only the cleaning after part.)
...Maybe I don't know what you're talking about. lol
Explain it to me.

You need the XIP folder, os.nb.payload and romhdr.bin of YOUR device and the xip.bin and SYS folder of the rom you want to port INTO your device. Which device do you have? Tell me and I'll "draw" a map of what goes where.

Thanks for replying ivanmmj... I have a hermes, and I've been doing exactly that... my problem is when I go to build it, I get "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in buildxip.exe [2276]"
If I put in my older XIP build, buildxip works fine... so I'm lost now. Oh, and I'm trying to port the 19213 official att kaiser rom XIP.

You'll need:
OEM: hermes
ROM folder: Hermes (uncluding the XIP folder and all the other files)
SYS folder from kaiser (look for and remove MSkernel from this folder... I'm not 100% on that folder yet and future versions may handle that folder automatically)
Place the xip.bin from the kaiser into the prepare folder.
Now run the RunMe

I really appreciate your help ivanmmj, same thing again. It chokes up on BuildXIP.exe ...I have BuildXIP version 0.53 if that makes any difference. I tried with two XIP versions... 19209 and 19900. I'm about to give up.
Oh and I have Visual Studio 2008 installed, so I don't think it would be the runtimes... would it?

Ok, I even installed the vs2008 runtimes, same thing.. I found buildxip v.54, same thing... then i moved the whole ROM folder (new XIP) out and put in the old 19209 one and it ran... so maybe there's something wrong with 19213 with hermes? ok, I give up. Thanks for your help!!
19213 porting to elfin
i'm trying to port the 19213 to my elfin, and after porting when i use bepe's kitchen, it gets stuck at this screenshot. anybody help!!!

starting out with a fresh kitchen

i wanted to start a kitchen and just play with the 23549 build if possible. I've had a couple of people hook me up with their kitchens that are ready to spit a rom out (which is great! thanks) but i don't know how much I'll learn going that route.
So..I've downloaded the latest EVK (heh..big step i know) and i see where/how to get rollups for 23549. But is the base rom still just 6.5? Or is there a specific base i need to get somewhere to get started and then apply the 6.5.x stuff?
You can find a nice and easy to use Kitchen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628948 OsKitchen by Ondraster and Airxtreme.
In thread you will find some of the latest build ready for it and the thread its still alive and ready to help people.
AFAIK, the components you will need are:
ROM
OEMXIPKernel from recent (last) official HTC ROM for your device
MSXIPKernel from 23549
OEM
OEM folder from recent (last) official HTC ROM for your device
SYS
SYS folder from 23549
If HTC did not release a WinMO 6.5 version for you device, your final ROM will be running a hybrid 6.1/6.5 kernel - i.e. not a "real" 6.5 AKU.
HTH,
so ive dumped 5 or 6 roms since ive been home looking for sense 2.1 1919 (last build before 2.5 iirc). Anyone remember which rom it came from?

i think 2.1 1920 is the latest, you can find it in uk orange rom 1.90
To create your own custom kitchen you'll need to learn how to strip a shipped rom. So you'll want a kitchen that is already stripped, a dump of the ROM it is based on, and some utils like Beyond Compare (powerfull diff program) and Emeditor (TXT exitor with unicode support)
Then start diffing the two kitchen folder structures and files to see what was removed/added from your source kitchen (Beyond Compare is awesome for this). Start cooking your ROM in small steps so you see how your changes effect the resulting ROM. Also a good understanding of the kitchen you are using is important. In the case of EVK, there is no need for dsm's and rgu's in EXT. You need to understand the EVK "new style" package strcture.
First thing to do off of a dumped rom in EVK is to go through the initflashfiles.dat file and cut and paste each EXT packages entries into an app.dat file in the EXT folder (the one with app.reg). This lets you experiment with turning on/off packages in EVK and not having to edit the initflashfiles.dat each time.
That should get you started on the right track, but be patient... this process will take time to learn.
Hi,
Here's an example to dump a rom by hand, the tools you find in most visual kitchens today.
Before you start with a visual kitchen it's good to learn the tools inside I think.
Here's a small example and it's fun to see and learn.
After doing these steps manual you have a good first impression what a kitchen can do.
Open a CMD window in the directory with this tools and your Ruu_signed.nbh and type te following commands:
nbhextract ruu_signed.nbh [ENTER]
nbsplit -kaiser os.nb [ENTER]
imgfsfromnb os.nb.payload imgfs.bin [ENTER]
imgfstodump imgfs.bin [ENTER]
Dump created....
Now drag the dump folder on Bepe's packagebuider and your packages are created.
OEM
ROM
SYS
Cheers, leo
Edit2; Tools attached inclusive recmod so you have a file inside the module if you try my steps. Credits and thanks to Pof, Bepe and Mamaich for creating these tools.
I've also added a cmd shortcut in the zip, so if you unzip you only need to add your ruu_signed.nbh you want to dump and click the shortcut a command window will open.
To extract the EXT I like to recommend Ondraster's extRebuild.exe
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629190
If you drag the oem folder on it it creates the EXT.

[GUIDE] Tg01 AUTO COOK&porting ROM kitchen with guid!fix bug!

I hope i can help u learn how to cook rom and makes it more easier!
1.Structure OF THE KITCHEN
ROOT OF THE KITCHEN-------
dump----> This will contan files dumped from ROM,like OFFICIAL ROMS.
OEM---->This folder contans all the OEM DRIVERS and OEM software
ROM\XIP\ ---->contain boot.rgu,don't mod or del it!
SYS -------->SYS of WM build
SYSNEW ------>TH SYS OF NEW version of WM building u will proting
temp ----->temp files, and ROM files u cooked are here
TOOLS --------->All tools that ness for cooking
XIPNEW ------>NEW XIP of WM version.there are two styles:XIP.BIN and MSXIPKernel.u can porting them by choose correct method in my bat command
reg&iniflashfiles_tools ------->Tools to edit reg files and initflashfiles.
HOW TO:
1、IF u don't want to Porting new version of wm and u just want to mod ,u can dump OFFICIAL rom.
TO DO:Place official ROM in root of kitchen, run "dump ROM.bat" and follow the instruction.when finished,u will find OEM AND SYS in DUMP\DUMP.Move them to root of the kitchen.and move xip.bin in dump to root of kitchen and rename it to xip_out.bin.Now,u can edit softwares in OEM and build as u like by run"Build ROM.bat"
2、IF u want to cook new version of WM build, just down load new SYS AND XIP file form somewhere like DFT.usually,u may only need these parts:COMM,COMM_0409,WVGA_COMM,WVGA_COMM_0409 and XIP.
UNZIP COMM,COMM_0409,WVGA_COMM,WVGA_COMM_0409 to SYSNEW folder,UNzip MSXIPKernel form XIP to XIPNEW folder then run"Build ROM.bat" and follow the guid.
sorry for my english...
hope u can understand...

sorry for my mistake..
i forget something important
just creat ROM\XIP\ folder in root of kitchen and put this boot.rgu in it

Thanks!
ps: moreover, i haven't got this folder "ROM\XIP\"...so i've got an error when i build the rom.
I tried to download your tool 3 times, but nothing....!!
What's wrong?
And I dumped the toshiba 6.5 rom, i did what you say in the first post and then i build the rom...
The original toshiba rom was 253mo and the new one is 244mo...but I didn't remove anything!!! Is this just because of the xip directory error i have during the "buildOs" process?
thanks!

Size difference is mostly because of the IMGFS building, which may well be skipping free space at the end (used for ImageUpdate). It shouldn't matter too much.
I'll stick this, and unstick the other kitchen.

I dumped a official 6.5 Rom and there is like u said a OEM and a SYS Folder in dump/dump.
Using DMP2PKG i get an error on my win7 32bit by choosing "select folder"
Dumping your 6.1 rom it seems that in the dump/dump folder the OEM and his sub folders are not created, so all the data is loose.
will try some stuff and see where it gets me
Edit:
error : \.VM\imageinfo.bin not found, getting this with official and your 6.1

When dumping a cooked rom it is unlikley that you will get an OEM folder, i do not know why but the OEM parts can be found in the sys folder and relocated. Only dumping an original rom gives proper file segregation, ie OEM+SYS
Made my own rom now. Changed a official one and put some oem's in OEM folder.
Have some questions though:
How do you add the information to the rom , that it automatically adds a xxx.lnk file in startmenu for each program you have been put to OEM Folder??
Also how do you insert another input keyboard to the rom??
I wanted to add Neo2007 driverpack to my rom but it tells me that the xxx.dll already exists. how do i bypass this??
And how do I upgrade the netcf??

Made my own rom now. Changed a official one and put some oem's in OEM folder.
Have some questions though:
How do you add the information to the rom , that it automatically adds a xxx.lnk file in startmenu for each program you have been put to OEM Folder??
Also how do you insert another input keyboard to the rom??
I wanted to add Neo2007 driverpack to my rom but it tells me that the xxx.dll already exists. how do i bypass this??
And how do I upgrade the netcf??

Could you explain: if /OEM doent exit after DUMP, do you fill with your new cab (transform in OEM?) and add a registry entry ?

I used this application to made my OEM's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525302
I just converted and put them into OEM folder.
Btw 1 thing concerning your 6.1 rom ffboy
Dumping it and putting everything to SYS does not work. I can not rebuild the rom , even if I do not add anything in OEM

1.ALL files in SYS and OEM placed default in WINDOWS folder.check initflashfiles.dat in OEM_LANG_0409 and initflashfiles.txt in ur own oem folder.these files can change the place of file.
if u want add FFBOY.LNK to startmenu, add command like this.
Code:
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu"):-File("FFBOY.lnk","\Windows\FFBOY.lnk")
2.input keyboard can be added by download someone posted,u may search ur self.
3.if buildos tells u that XXX.DLL or some tile already exist, check the name and search in SYS or OEM to see if there exist a file in same name.
if exist, delete them except the newest one.
4.NETCF in wm6.5 already version 3.5

*Request* 6.1 ESP (0C0A) Lang package

Hello there, im trying to make a 6.1 rom with ESP lang but i can't port the one posted by Da_G be cause the rom maker cab sends me problems with some files.
I hope some of you can help me with the lang porting or any pack I can use.
I'm using Old style kitchen made by aeroflyluby
Since you are speaking about WM 6.1 i suppose that you got the right build from the right Da_G thread....anyway ,here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547314
Actually I'm using that package that you mentioned but no luck, when i change the files from the SYS folder the program "my build os" sends me an error anywhere and if y solve it (by deleting the problematic file) the rom maker (the .cab that calls the pack of tools) sends me an error while is rebuilding the files so I dont know what I'm doing wrong.
Do I have to use the SYS files with or without the 0409(ENG) files or i have to replace them?
Is there any proble if I cant find any 0C0A(ESP) OEM folder files?
I hope you can help me.
Regards.
If you are cooking for 0c0a then every 0409 folders must be left from your kitchen.
With 0c0a SYS you need 0c0a OEM at least OEM_Lang_0c0a otherwise your rom will not work.

Oh i see. So i can extract 0c0a OEM files from any 6.0 dump folder? or I have to find a new oem folder files for 6.1?
BTW i'm cooking for a BenQ-e72 so I can't find any rom in spanish except for the one that came with my phone (WinMo 6.0)
a_GWM 6.0 OEM should be work with WM 6.1 at least you will need a WM 6.1 Initflashfile.dat (it is in OEM_Lang), sometimes Da_G shares his build within the Initflashfiles for every language, check in that thread to see otherwise try to cook it with your 6.0 initflashfile.dat and check if something is missing in StartMenu.

Thanks for the fast answer. I'm going to look for the WM from Da_G but I don't remember if i have seen that thread before, and btw I will take some time after I can post any advance be cause I'm not at home. for now I can only ask things if I have any question.
I have tried what you said but no luck. the phone wont start. it just stay in black screen, i don't know what i'm doing wrong
can you xplain exactly where does your rom stucks? maybe is not a SYS trouble maybe is a XIP trouble due to not pòrting ok or maybe is the wince. nls WWE or any SYS pkg missed
Well the rom wont give me any image, it just shows me a black screen and the normal screen lights for the rest it does nothing.
Once i got lucky but I had problems with the Start menu be cause i wasn't able to see the icons, i think it was caused by the initflashfiles.dat but now I can't do it again

[Q] [PROBLEM][HERMES-TYTN]Default.hv cooked ROM

Hi,
I have a really strange problem.
I have two HTC HERMES, one good that I use and a second that I use only fot test purposes because it's not in good conditions.
I cook ROMs with "ROMDonalds Kitchen" and I have neved had any problem.
Since yesterday, every new ROM I cook, I have this problem:
if I don't edit "default.hv" the cooked ROM goes well in both my HERMES, but if I edit it, the ROM can only be loaded on the second HERMES (the one not in good conditions).
In the other HERMES after flashing, when I make the reset or even the hard-reset, the ROM begins to boot but then stops after the first splash-screen and the screen becames white.
I always flash from SD (hermimg.nbh).
What can be the problem?
Can be a problem of the good HERMES of the two I have?
Can be a difference in hardware between the good HERMES, even if they are identical from outside?
Many thanks !
Hi,
I don't understand why you need to edit default.hv but probably you have your reason.
It's better to leave it untouched to my opinion.
To edit the registry you can edit the .rgu in the specific package or create
a new package with the new registry overwriting the first package registry.
The second suggestion you can keep your tweaks in every rom you cook and switch the stock packages more easy.
What you are writing is indeed weird but this way you avoid errors in the .hv files.
Edit; btw, because Hermes is a pretty old device I'm asuming the kitchen you use is still using .rgu instead of .reg in the packages, latest kitchens mostly use .reg
.rgu and .reg files are same and containing the registry.
Grtz,
Laurentius26
yeah its true, what do you change in the d.hv? maybe you can tell us, what about to use another kitchen? or do your changes in app.reg ext pkgs or in oem packages to void edit it
I edit .hv files when I add or remove programs from the ROM.
I've tried also Ervius kitchen but when I try to dump my ROMs It gives me some errors...the only kitchen I was able to use is RomDonald's..
Can You suggest me another good one?
Thanks
Airxtreme's Oskitchen or Barin's OSbuilder, they are both in Chef Central here.
You don't need to edit .hv files as when you remove the package all registry of that package will be gone too.

I dont think ROMDonalds processes rgu files. If I remember correct, you have edit the hive files to use that kitchen.
Wow, that's gotta be a huge pain in the butt.

Yes, It is correct.
But the strange thing is that only one of the two Hermes I have, accepts the ROM after I edit the .hv files...
The question is:
Is there a separate memory where the hive is stored, and can this memory be faulty in one of my Hermes?

If you mean the fixed address - the answer is No. *.hv are files and files do not have the fixed address.
I've tried also Ervius Visual Kichen, but when I dump my ROM It gives me these two errors:
1- "Xipkernel's DSM not found! I'll create new...Maybe protected XIP (not portable !!!)"
2- "Boo.rgu in xip not found!Create new...But maybe ROM will be NON BOOTABLE !!!)"
What's wrong?
Thanks for all the answers You provide !
XDA, really a great Community !!!
Hi,
I don't know what you are doing to setup Ervius?
Are you importing a new stock rom into the kitchen?
The errors you can check:
Ervius kitchen/Rom/Shared/'Sys build'/MSXipkernel/
boot.rgu and the .dsm should be there.
Without boot.rgu and the dsm the rom won't boot.
Are all your desktop system files unhidden and vissible?

The visualization of hidden files is active in my PC, and I am trying to import a NON STOCK ROM to add or remove packages.
Ervius kithchen gives me the errors I described, and also OSKitchen gives me errors..
Can these kitchens import only STOCK ROMs?
I used ROMDonald's kitchen because It was able to edit a ROM that was already cooked...but the editing of .hv files is wrong...
I advise you to use a stock rom as you can test if everything is working ok.
After this you can do your modifications.
I know it's a bit of work but the advantage is to use a new kitchen which is much more configurable.
Editing .hv files isn't that good, but we talked about that already.
Another tip, I always zip my kitchen after I know a configuration is working and I flashed the rom succsesvol, before I continue to the next step.

It doesnt make sense why one device would run it, and the other one dont! Are you sure the hive files do not have any errors?
Try to flash a stock ROM first, then flash the cooked one. I know hermes has ext storage, and that can through errors...

That's the point...It's a nonsense..
I've already tried to flash stock ROM on both devices before flashing the cooked ROM, but It's always the same nonsense, one loads the ROM, the other doesn't...
At this point only a malfunction or a difference in hardware between my two devices could explain this strange behaviour
Don't know how to solve...
are you trying to recook my roms? hahaha just kiddin
everybody knows that we don thave bootable and full dumped roms from customized ones, due to DSMsif you want to make a roms looks like or be something like a... i recommend to ask for the kitchen many retired chefs on Legacy devices can share it to you or just dump the rom and xtract the things you want
but make your own Stock OEM an set good your Native Kernel
