Accelerometer and screen rotating - Optimus 7 General

As everyone know WP7 has a feature which rotate screen as phone is rotated. In my phone it always work, almost 90% of time it is in "vertical" mode, when I rotate phone it switches to "horizontal", but I have seen issues few times:
1. when phone lays steady on flat surface (like table), when I unlock phone it is sometime switched to "horizontal", even when it was in "vertical" when I had put it on table,
2. when I am talking to sb with this phone, and phone is hold vertical, when I want to end call, the "end call" button is vertical, but options below changed to horizontal.
Of course every time phone switches back to vertical mode after 3-5s but it looks strange and annoying.
Has anyone else this problem?
I have check sensor calibration in MFG menu and it looks ok, at every flat surface I got reading 0 at both axis with small random noise (below 1).

Elektryk I've got the same problem but I don't care about it

same problem here... really annoying :S

Strange Screen problem.

This happens very intermittently. I my 4 weeks of ownership, it happened like 10 times. Today was the most annoying. Any item, program, window, application, I open, it automatically gets closed/minized, meaning "OK" button pressed on the touch screen. None of my clicks on the touchscreen get recognized. Is the screen bricked?
Any help would be great. I am planning to visit Cingular store tomorrow to swap for another handset and try my luck as the last resort before the 30 day window expires.
I also have this behaviour; sometime, when I am scrolling on my screen my device a "false" click on the close button and close the application.
It happen very very rarely, but it is still noticable.
I have no really solution; i just binded the voice button to the alt-tab function, when it happen I just press that button to get my windows back
Mine sometimes does this in PIE when I'm scrolling it suddenly minimises. Of course it helps also if you have a task manager that shows running programmes in task bar. It's then just a case of tapping the icon to bring it back again.
I think it happens because the screen sensitivity area goes slightly beyond the open programme window. So if it senses a tap off the right edge of the programme window it thinks you want the desktop. Why they make a screen that is sensitive even below the bezel is beyond me and is of course for the unlucky folk - the cause of the screen alignment problem

I am visiting the store now, will see how it goes. I thought this was a problem caused due to a magnetic case I used for a week the screen got distorted.

No - pretty certain it's not the magnetic case. Of course the magnetic case does operate the magnetic switch that operates when you open the keyboard. That's why it's often in landscape mode when you take it out of the case. This is annoying but the magnets are only operating the magnetic switch not interfering with the screen.

Where can I get that alt+tab function program?

Dissasembly, screen rotate broken

I recently replaced the screen in my 6800 - (I'm out of insurance replacements, and I don't like the Touch Pro Verizon offered me very much.)
The dissasembly and re-assembly went swimmingly - except for the fact that my phone now reverts to Landscape every time it wakes up, as if the switch that detects the sliding motion is broken or disconnected.
Does anyone have any details of where this switch is and how it works? I have heard mention of it being a magnetic reed switch, but I also see a little tab of metal in the slide mechanism that looks like a contact closure point for this.
Any ideas or information?
I know this isn't probably the best answer, but have you looked into software that will rotate the screen? You could then assign that software to a button and rotate that way.
Yeah, I have "Screen Rotate" mapped to the messaging button, but it still reverts to landscape every time the phone goes to sleep, even if I set the screen mode to "portrait" in the settings.
I took it apart all the way again last night, I still can't find any sign of the mechanism it uses to detect open/close.
There are some metal ground clips on the lcd side that I think it uses to sense its location. If you slide the phone out you will see a gold colored clip in one of the slide groves.

Accelerometer problem or is it?

I droped my phone but it was inside a big protective case now i don't know if this issue is related to this but here it goes.
If i open a picture message with the phone in my hand the screen goes into landscape, when i exit out it stays in landscape until i exit the messaging client. Here is the strange part, if i leave my phone flat on the table and do the same it goes back to portrait mode as soon as i close the picture.
Does this sound like the phone has a hardware damage?
Tried restarting it and calibrating the accelerometer, nothing.
Can someone please also do me a favor and see if in the game Teeter when the phone is on the flat surface does the ball still rolls slightly to the left? I can make it stop and not move but it prefers to go to the left.
My ball stays still.
I don't see how this can be a problem since accelerometer works but in an sms client only when the phone is on the desk.

[Q] How do I disable orientation-initiated screen sleep?

I'm not sure if I'm describing this correctly in the title so let me try and elaborate -
I've used probably 10-15 different ROMs for my Nexus 10 and lately every single one I try, I have the same issue when I have the screen titled down horizontally towards me while reading in bed ( think holding it up while lying on my back, angled down at me so I can read ), where the screen blacks out/goes to sleep.
Then I have to tilt it back so it's vertical again and sometimes it puts me at the lock screen but more often I have to hit the power button to get the lock screen back, infuriatingly I then sometimes get stuck in a loop of hitting power to get to lock screen as it's going back to lock screen so then it kills the display again so then I have to hit power again etc etc. Once the screen is back and displaying everything is fine until some random amount of time ( between 5 seconds & 5 minutes ) when the screen just goes black again - presumably when I move/adjust my position or the angle of the screen.
Anyway - I believe this is version independent, I don't think it's the ROMs, it's like it's something built-in to the OS.
The only thing I can figure is it's either related to the accelerometer detecting that I'm tilting the tablet horizontally so the screen is facing down and thus it is killing the display, OR it's the light sensor detecting a darkening of the light since I would be angling the screen away from a direct light source and so it kills the screen thinking I'm placing it face down on a table.
Possibly related - I've also noticed since 4.2.2 ( maybe coincidence ) that I can't rotate my screen 180 degrees and be able to unlock the device. No matter what, if I flip that sucker around it instantly kills the display and locks the screen. I've got auto-rotate on, so I know that's not the issue, and if I hit the power button to get the lock screen up, then unlock it INSTANTLY locks again and kills the screen. It's like there's a setting now that says I CAN rotate if I want to but there's no point because I can't actually unlock the screen to do anything. Keep in mind this ONLY happens when flipping it 180 - if it do it 90 or 270 and have it vertical there is no issue, it is literally only when it is flipped 180 that this occurs.
Am I over thinking this or is there something really, really obvious I'm missing? I've gone over every setting I can think of and the only thing remotely screen related is the sleep timer but it doesn't matter how long I make it or if I even turn it off entirely - every time I get into bed to read I have to mash the power button to get the screen going again. It's minor in the grand scheme of things but it is incredibly frustrating when all I want to do is read before going to sleep, just stay open damn it !
I hate to shameless bump this but does anyone know what I'm talking about? If I tilt my N10 past a certain degree ( I want to say it's around 30 degrees or so ) the screen just goes to sleep, how do I stop this? I've used a ton of different ROMs so it seems to be something consistent and/or a fundamental "feature" of JellyBean and/or Android in general.

If nothing else, I would say it rather "seems" to be a hardware issue, because I've never seen this behavior on my own device. That said, I can't say I've heard of many people talking about this either.

Thanks for replying! Good point - I've just assumed it wasn't something specific to MY N10 because I can't imagine why it would happen from a hardware perspective since it's never been damaged ( dropped, scuffed ) in any way. Unless I just got a bad egg with a faulty accelerometer or light sensor or something, which is also possible.
I suppose if no one else is experiencing this and it's isolated to me and is ROM independent than it must be hardware. Either that or when I'm laying in bed I generate large bursts of electromagnetic activity that cause it to think I've closed the "smart" cover. :cyclops:
Screen Timeout
I don't know if any of this matters, but I am just curious.
What is your Screen Timeout setting? Have you tried increasing this? Do you have it set to lock screen upon pressing the power button? Have you tried changing it? Do you use a pattern lock, pin code, other?

My screen timeout is set to 10 minutes, though it doesn't seem to matter what I set it to - I just set it to 30 and the same thing happens after a second of tilting it.
I have screen lock via slide, but while I do lock/kill the screen via pressing the power button I just realized I've never actually set it to do this. I guess I thought it was a built-in feature - I've just gone through all the settings I have ( currently using FlamingMonkey AOSP ROM for reference ) and I don't see any option anywhere to enable/disable this feature. :S
Maybe there is an issue with my power button and when I tilt the tablet it jiggles it enough that it "presses" down and locks?
Use ultimate rotation control from store and force the lockscreen to landscape at all times.

I think that you are on the right track. The option to lock the screen on hitting the power button is under the Security settings for stock android. It should be there for your ROM too.
I constantly hit my power button when sitting it down or picking it up. That is why I disable the instant lock option.

[QUESTION] S8 display randomly lights on and vibrates during call

Hi, anyone have issues with galaxy s8 when making/receiving calls ? My S8 was pre-ordered and on the first day of usage im faced with this issue, when making call or receiving phone randomly lights on display (once) and genlty randomly vibrates (as you press home button or nav button), then im take away phone from ear and put it back to ear display turns off, sometimes it keep turned off as normaly but sometimes it lights on again and vibrates, so i have to do previous steps or if ignore that issue than display turns off after some time and when im take away phone from ear to end call phone is locked and display won't light up until press lock button. Also im noticed that when im lock phone or even take it in hand (fingers touches both curved sides of display) phone also gently vibrates and turns from AOD to lock screen, this issue is also randomly. Some times AOD screen suddenly goes bright and than fades like it should be. After two weeks of chatting with samsung and store support im was send it to "service", they tested phone and after 10 days im received phone with status "no problems detected, software reflashed" but issues still not gone. And im can't replace it with new one because store refuses to replace it and says that they don't replace devices with software issues. Now im stuck and don't know what to do.
P.S. in *#0*# menu proximity sensor ADC values randomly keep changing even if nothing is in front of sensor, values are between 79-125 and when completely put finger on sensor values is 16368
Same issue here. Not sure why.
same for me too, international dual sim version s8
I have little bit different issue related to light sensor. My phone doesn't turn off the screen and locks in a pocket or if I close light screen by hands.

I have the same issue (also the oversensitive home button issue too).
I have a similar issue. But my screen never lights up. Neither during a call or when on the desk, for example. But during calls it sometimes vibrates as if I hard pressed the home button even though the screen is still off and I haven't pressed anything with my face, nor have I received any notifications. It doesn't seem to happen once every minute either (some phones notify you of every passing mine during a call).
It's not a big deal for me, just kind of curiously annoying.

Check in settings on ambient display, pocket mode, etc. Or maybe a cache wipe and reboot will solve.
Like Settings-Display-Screen Mode
-Keep screen turned on/off
Thanks to Samsung and Consumer Rights Protection Centre, together we forced store to replace phone. It was a factory deffect, so anyone who has similar problem im advice to replace phone.
