[Q] your experience with at&t - Optimus 7 General

Hello,
I'm in the process of deciding between the HTC Arrive on Sprint, and this phone, purchased unlocked and running on at&t. I plan on using it as my main phone, and for development.
I have been looking around for people's experiences with the Optimus 7 on at&t but haven't found much. I have never used an unlocked phone before, so I am not sure how easy the setup will be. Does 3G and MMS work for you? How will updates get installed?
I have been reading the posts on this forum, but I haven't read much about at&t yet.... I have no idea what I'm doing, haha.
Thank you very much for your help!

It works pretty well for me. The signal is a bit worse than with "native" AT&T devices because the radio ROM isn't customized for AT&T's network, but overall 3G/HSPA works well. I've never actually tried MMS, but I'm assuming if it doesn't work, you can use the MFG app to fix up your settings.
If you have an unlocked device, updates will come from Microsoft without having to be approved by AT&T, but you'll still get the AT&T exclusive apps in Marketplace because that functionality relies on your SIM card.
I still don't have NoDo, but apparently a lot of other people with this unlocked phone don't either, so that would probably be the main reason to go with the Arrive, as it comes with NoDo preinstalled.

Thank you Arktronic! Man, this makes my decision even harder now, I was just about to walk out the door and go to sprint. I really like having a physical keyboard and getting the phone *now* rather than having to wait a week for it to ship in. Haha, I have no patience...
Ahh man...
I'm still a bit worried about those updates....but I do plan on doing a ton of globe-trotting this year and next, and I don't want to pay for another phone to work overseas. Decisions!
Thanks again!

Keep in mind, only the LG E900H is optimized for North American networks. If you have an LG E900H (different from the more widely available E900), then you can simply go to the MFG app on the device, and set the network profile to AT&T, (with a couple of other changes, such as automatic WCDMA and ADC Enable, all of which can be done without any modifications, and very simple to do), and suddenly your device works like a native AT&T device. I have tried this on my LG E900H Telus branded Sim unlocked phone, and I tend to travel across the border a lot. If you have an AT&T sim in the phone, and you do all the above, you even get the AT&T splash screen...so completely AT&T-fied.

Man, I'm having a really hard time finding the E900h (what I can find costs >500 USD). Is that the phone that was given away to devs?
When you say 'optimized' you just mean that the setup is a bit easier? From what I understand, it seems like I should just be able to throw in an at&t sim and I should be good to go. Am I missing something?
I just want to make sure I can get 3G/MMS! (and not EDGE haha)
Thank you for your help!

I have a non-H and 3G works just fine.

E900H is available through Telus in Canada and I think some other carrier that starts with T in Mexico. And both versions will have the AT&T profile, and will work fine on AT&T.

Thanks a lot guys! I bit the bullet and just put in an order for it.... at 3am, haha. As much as I like the Arrive (and my Sprint service), I really fell in love with the Optimus 7 when I held a demo unit (that wasn't even working) when I was in Hong Kong. I hope this process goes smoothly... (and that we can get NoDo soon! Oh and I hope at&t service/reception doesn't suck as much as I'm afraid it will.
I've already written a crappy app, I can't wait to see how it works in the real world!

Cool, good luck!

Yeah I got it!!! Reception seems about on par with other at&t phones, perhaps a bit worse. Just installed the MFG app, set it up with the at&t_410_310 setting like it was mentioned elsewhere in this form, and bam it worked! I usually get decent reception on the HSPA network. Download speeds around 440k, which seems a bit slow? Dunno. Who cares! It's LEAGUES better than the crappy Samsung upstage i came from.

Don't forget to set ADC on using either the Network app from LG store, or through the MFG app in the Engineer Menu>Other Settings...

I think I tried messing with ADC while I was testing things out at the at&t tore, and the phone stopped receiving data (?), so I just left it on automatic, is that what you meant?
I'll check it out again tomorrow, right now the phone's updating to nodo as I get ready for sleep. I love this forum.

E900 or E900H
Hey edee1337,
You mentioned having a hard time finding the E900H, but never said which model you ultimately ended up getting. I wonder because it looks like you can get an unlocked E900 off of Amazon for around $360 (Seller:Yellow Deals) and I'm considering it for use with AT&T.
Which did you end up getting?
Thanks!

I used my sim-unlocked E900 both with Orange-FR and Open-EU ROMs in Canada for 2 months with a Fido SIM without any problem. With the Open-EU ROM I've noticed a more stable signal and MMS, but it worked quite well even with Orange ROM, only the MMS was missing that time, so I assume you can save a few bucks and stick to the E900 and set the AT&T profile on MFG App.
PS.: I am currently running my E900 on Brazilian "Oi" network without any problem too, just with the ADC turned on as there's no profile for any Brazilian carrier on MFG App, the same for Fido.
PS.: MMS works here too.

Thanks GolfVR6,
So when you look through provisioning options on your E900 you do actually see an AT&T one as well? If that's the case then I'm sure it'll be just fine.

Used to have until I flashed with the Open-EU firmware, but now when I try to access the Network Profile tool on MFG, the app quit and send me back to the Start Screen.
But I don't need to use this anymore as my ADC is working properly now.

HTC Hero130 (Telus Version)

First off - I Private Messaged a couple of people about this, but realized that I should have just posted this in the forum. So, my apologies for anyone seeing this a second time.
I've been getting all sort of conflicting information about the Hero 130 (The Telus one) and which UMTS bands it supports.
Most of the information I see at places like PDADB says that it's UMTS enabled for 850/1900 only, which are the North American bands. FCC reports and the Telus user manual show testing for WCDMA (UMTS) 850/1900 only.
However, HTC's Canada Hero website (http://www.htc.com/ca/product/herotelus/specification.html) says "Dual Mode UMTS" and lists frequencies for US (850/1900), EU/Asia (900/2100) and Telstra (850/2100). Two HTC support techs from their website also confirm that the Hero 130 supports UMTS for US EU/Asia and Telstra, but it feels like they are just regurgitating information from the extremely vague website.
The device is a quad-band worldwide device. These are the bands the device is capable of using:
Europe/Asia
UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (900/2100MHz for EU/Asia)
North America
850/1900
Telestra
850/2100
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (Quad-band 850/900/1800/1900Mhz)
If the bands you are needing are any of these then the device should work.

Has anyone with a HERO130 actually gone overseas and seen if you get UMTS/3G to work overseas - or has seen anything that conclusively and definitively proves if it does or does not work?
Thanks!
I'm wondering the same thing. I'd like to get the Telus one and use it here on AT&T 3g in the states... anyone know if that is possible?
The Telus version of the HTC Hero (aka HERO130 or A6265) definitely supports ATT's 3G bands. It's been confirmed via the FCC documentation as well that 850/2100 is supported. T-Mobile's 1700MHz is not supported.
My question is specifically in regards to the European/Asian (900/1900MHz) bands. HTC's confirmed that it does support by phone, but I'm still a little dubious. However, I'm ordering one and am going to give it a test!
Stay Tuned!

Yes. It is possible. I've got the Telus Hero, unlocked and running on the Rogers network. HSDPA/3G works fine on Rogers. North American radio bands for 3G are supported with this hardware.

Awesome! How difficult is the unlocking process?
I just thought about something. I'm used to the iPhone where you have to root your phone to unlock it for other carriers. Is the way it work with the HTC Hero and the like is that you just pay full price for the phone ($499) and it comes unlocked already? No tinkering needed?

The unlocking process is not painful at all, but it costs you $20-25. When you insert a non-Telus sim into the device and power it up, it will tell you that you are using the wrong sim and ask you to enter the unlock code. The unlock code is specific to the IMEI of you phone, so they can't be shared. They can be purchased on eBay for slightly more than $20.
Note that you cannot unlock your phone by flashing a custom ROM. So unless you figured out the magic formula for generating these unlocking code (different for each device and different for each carrier), you have to pay for it one way or another.

So I buy the full priced ($499) phone from Telus, then I have to buy the unlock code from Ebay? Hmm... I feel leery about buying something like this from Ebay. Is there an official channel I can buy an unlock code from?

I paid mine for the full price too, but this doesn't make the phone automatically unlocked. Telus enters an exclusive contract with HTC to be the sole carrier of this phone in Canada (at least for now), and they have every right to make sure that an average-joe, who knows nothing about unlocking, who wants this phone have to go to them, with or without contract. Exclusive dealings are extremely common in cell phone industry, and they are not free for the carrier.
I doubt Telus would unlock the phone for you. In the US, T-Mobile will unlock their phones for you a few months into the 2-year contract, may be Telus will do the same, if you signed a contract with them that is.
I just went to eBay and notice that there are now many sellers selling Telus Hero unlock code, and some are selling for as low as $13. I bought mine from a seller called cellfservices, it is not the cheapest but it worked (and it took them about an hour after the sales to send me the code).
mobileincanada.ca seems to be one that is very popular for unlocking, $20cdn, and they usually send unlock code very fast (within 5 minutes)
all right people.
I am here to bust the myth.
Telus hero does not have asian HSPA band.
I have two heros: GSM and Telus.
Tested location: Taiwan.
Telus hero with Taiwan sim card = GPRS only, no 3G connection.
GSM hero = 3G connection.
Telus hero does not have dual model 3G, period.
So which do I get for AT&T
Ok so I'd like one of these WITH 3G connection on AT&T so which one would I get to make this happen? I'm leaning toward the Telus model from what I've been reading but if anyone can confirm or deny this, that would be great. Also once I have it and it's been unlocked, then what do I tell AT&T? Just order a second line with a data plan? Won't they ask me what type of phone is this for or how should I do this?

The Telus Hero is the only current Hero model that will work with 3G/HSDPA in North America. The European Hero will only use Edge for Data - it doesn't support the North American radio bands. The Sprint model only supports CDMA.
Do you need a second line? Are you planning to run two cell phones? If not, just switch your current AT&T SIM into the Hero and get a data plan for that SIM/line.
I do plan on running a second line yes. I have an iPhone 3GS as my main phone and I am planning on using the Hero to play around with as my second phone. The hero is a decent phone and fun to flash and play around with etc... but I couldn't ever really use it as my main phone. I definitely couldn't give up my iPhone 3GS for an Android phone just yet there are still some refinements that Android as a mobile OS needs to undergo and still some refinements that HTC needs to bring to the SenseUI as well. I rely too heavily my phone and it doing what I need it to do as fast as possible. I did have the Sprint Hero for a month before I took it back, I just didn't like it... it was slow, laggy, and some of the things I wanted to do with the phone that I was just so used to doing on my iPhone either couldn't be done OR had to be done in a way that didn't make very much logical or design sense. I had a lot of those 'why can't I just press this to make it do that?' moments or 'why the heck would they put this menu under here?' moments. Anyhow with that being said, Hero and Android are still fun platforms to play with and flash and try different settings and home screens and different ROMS etc so I'm going to get another one but this time on AT&T so I can use voice and data at the same time (one of the things I hated about having the Hero on spring was the inability to use data and voice at the same time as well as how slow sprints data was compared to AT&T)... but I wouldn't want a phone that I flashed and played around with so much to be a phone I relied on for mission critical work.
So what's the best way of going about this? What type of line should I order from AT&T? What should I ask for when i call or go into the store to get another line? Any suggestions?
I just got my Telus Hero last week, and coming from a 3G iphone, this blows it away. Not sure about the 3GS as it is a faster processor..... Also better than the Tilt 2. Love it. Just waiting on Eclair to get Google Navigation and other goodies...

Yeah the iPhone 3G (I have both a 3G and 3Gs) and the Hero are pretty comparable. Browsing the web (which I do a lot) is faster on the 3G but the loading of applications etc... are pretty much the same. This is stock to stock so no modding on either phone. The scrolling on the 3G is much smoother than a stock Hero. I know that there are ROMS that make the device faster which is the only reason I'm even rethinking about getting one. The 3GS however is just no contest. But I've pretty much had all the fun I can out of the iPhone; not talking about the the apps as there are so many apps to choose from and a lot of them are awesome and fun to use, but with modding the phone itself and playing around with the OS etc I've done all I can do with the iPhone and want something new to play with...

Just tell them you have an existing phone so you want a new SIM and to purchase a plan for a smartphone (data and voice plan) - they can advise you on deals and packages then. The carrier should never care about the phone - it's not like they make money on it - they usually subsidize the manufacturer for a unit anyway, in a profit sharing deal. The only thing the carrier is really interested in is the data and voice carriage charges.
i would just tell them you want to add a line for regular phone with unlimited data. that way you dont have to pay extra for the smart phone data. unless of course its cheaper and you can just for like ten dollars make your smart phone data plan you have now a family unlimited

That would not be the best option. If you are going to add a line, figure out which phone they are giving away for free they you can get the biggest profit by flipping on eBay. Most likely the Solstice.
This way you can get away with the cheaper non-smart phone data plan and get about $200 back by selling the "free" phone they give you.
Can anyone confirm if the telus hero ships with the updated faster firmware? Thanks.

Is it possible to get the Leo working on AT&T in the US?

Is there a custom ROM in development to accomplish this? The Leo looks to be phenominal - just no due dates in the US.
TIA
I bought at expansys-usa.com.
Unlocked.
Regards.
Right on. Ty for the reply. So I should just be able to load up a custom Leo ROM, stuff in my simcard, and use all the AT&T contract features I currently use on my AT&T Tilt 2?
TY again!
Well, just keep in mind, the model being sold at expansys-usa is the Euro model, meaning no 3G service in the US. However, you can still place calls over GSM network (both ATT and T-Mobile) and use EDGE data connection.
Cheers,
S.
instead of rushing on getting one like i did you can wait till tmobile releases their's sometime around march(rumor) and get it unlock for att. This phone would be a lot better with 3g.
Thanks for all the info ya'll!
T-Mo and AT&T do not use same bands !!!
Please note that while AT&T uses 850Mhz band T-Mo uses the 1700Mhz. What will happen, if the T-Mo version will be 1700/2100 as I suspect, is that if it will be unlocked, even if it will show on screen it is on a 3G network, it will be for uploading only, and will not download a thing.
If the advise is to wait, I would wait until Telstra in Australia will start selling HD2, and import it from there, as their 'NextG' network is 850Mhz.
I know cause I just did the same with my HD. Got an aussie unit, and unlocked it. (internet buy)
As for myself, based on my 6 months experiance with the HD, I will get tomorrow my EU version. Yes, will not have 3G, but quite frankly, the 3G is almost useless for me because at leat on the HD it drained my 1350mAh battery pretty quick, being on 3G. I had to install WMlonglife and has been on a 2G network most of the time. Another thing - It is pretty easy to be on Wi Fi at home, at office, at starbucks, etc.. lots of free access points. For emails/SMS the 2G is good enough regardless.. So - I went with the EU version. BTW- I know expansys sells it for $784, but check www.networkingrus.com (hope I do not violate a forum rule, if I do, I appologise) but they sell for far less, and I have purchased 3 phones from them already, got great service and when I was over seas and my phone broke, I purchased one from them , and they shipped it to me there, it got stuck in customs, they got it back, and re-shipped to my other location while I was travelling. Very honest, and price is good.
Would i wait 3 moths? I would say yes if it was rock solid date, and guaranteed to work on the AT&T band. I decided not to wait any more, when SSPL already works (I am a 28014 addict)
Hope i helped here..

I agree....mine is an unlocked euro version too, and I am using mine on AT&T with no problems! It is even pretty fast on the Edge data network..... in addition, I use mine with my Verizon mifi modem for wifi, and it is blazing fast.....I am falling madly in love with my HD2 now that there are some custom roms available.....LOL
Later.....
BTW, I too got mine there.......they are great people to deal with!

Dang! I did not know of that place. I bought mine on ebay. It came with everything and a 8GB memory card instead of 2GB. Bought it for $764 + 8% cashback.
Also using mine on AT&T no prob
I bought a Euro model as well, using it in the US on T-Mo and not regretting a thing: IN fact, I had a HD the year before. No 3G, don't care.
On top of that, I got my wife a TP2 through T-Mo. She used it 10 days, finding the 3G to be disappointing. I didn't do a head to head between the T-Mo 3G and my EDGE, that would just be silly.
My concern about a T-Mo version of Leo, assuming the rumors are correct, is what happens to the T-Mo specific functions, and can it be flashed by one of the magnificent custom ROM's available here on XDA? The only T-Mo specific feature I can come up with is 5 fav.....but I'm not sure that's even offered anymore.
The question is.....just for laughs.....can a T-Mo branded Leo be flashed with a custom ROM?
Agreed with pretty much everyone who went and got their HD2 and using it on ATT or TMobile. I bought mine a week after ATT released the Tilt2. I sold my Tilt2 few days after I got the HD2. I never looked back and the device is sexy as hell. Enjoying it even more now because with custom ROMs the internal storage is sweet (as good as the TP2/Tilt2).
I purchased my Leo in Hong Kong knowing full well that it would not work on the 3G with AT&T. That was not my main concern. It works very well. Love it especially with some of the mods to have 20 shortcuts instead of 9.

Don't worry, if you get a T-MO leo when it is offered, you can always unlock it and put a cooked ROM on it, BUT, don't ever try to get serviced after, because they will deny any warranty repairs. Even for obvious malfunation you will be blamed it was a result of flashing..
I never buy the hardware from the service provider. as an AT&T customer i was dumb enough to get an iphone to my daughter, paid $199 for it, and got locked for two years with a monstrous 2 year contact of $43/month (text, broadband, $10 family line). Guess what - phone was broken (screen shattered) after 3 months. they say warranty does not cover screen. $200 repair, 2 years clock started again, phone got nroken again (this POS breaks when you give it a look !) so now I am locked with $43/month plan, and no iphone. yes, AT&T will not let you go even when they know you do not have an iphone any more. My daughter runs a LG vue and pays the $43 until 2011 !!! that has taught me the lesson... I get my phone for real hard cash and never lock myself with contracts... PS: $43 x 24 +199 = $1,231. Boy was i dumb, or what? My new HD2 was $717 +shipping...

Droid Pro on Virgin / T-Mobile UK 3G?

Hi all,
I am about to import an activated (with included Verizon unlock code) Droid Pro into the UK so all the essential bases should be covered. However, I saw that some people were having real problems with getting 3G reception on their Droid Pros in Europe. Does anybody have any experiences about using the Droid Pro in the UK, specifically on Virgin and/or T-Mobile??
Many thanks!

Mine has been fine. I used it for a while on T-Mobile, and I was able to pick up 3G or HSPA pretty much everywhere. I'm on 3 now, but I'm thinking about going back to T-Mobile because the 3 signal seems to cut out randomly, and I can't seem to access the internet very much. I went with 3 because they're the only ones that let you use up to 1GB, but what's the point, if you can't access it anyway?
Haha, yes very true. Check out Virgin! I am on a 15GBP/month plan with 500mins, unlimited texts and 1gb of internet, they use T-Mobile's lines thats why I was asking... Best deal I have found around so far! Oh and I should say its a pay-monthly contract.
Thanks so much for the quick reply, I will proceed to actually buying it... would you recommend it generally?

I don't really need that many minutes, so I've just been paying 10GBP. I've realized that I don't use cellular internet that much because my life pretty much consists of being at my flat, or being at school, and I have WiFi at both places. I just need a supplement on the rare occasions that I'm somewhere else, so 500MB should get me by.
I was kind of shocked to find out that internet here is so limited. I always thought Europe was way ahead of the U.S. in terms of speed and bandwidth.
Anyway, as far as the phone goes, I love mine. My favorite phone that I used back home was a Treo, and I fell in love with the front-facing keyboard. Unfortunately they don't have an Android phone like that that I can use on my network back home yet, but as soon as I realized I was going to be here for most of the year, I picked up a Droid Pro, and I've never regretted it. It's not perfect (read about the random reboots), but it's stable for the most part, and the wonderful form factor makes up for any minor faults.
Really? I feel that the internet here was pretty nice... I was using an HTC Touch Diamond2 on T-Mobile US last year and it just wouldnt switch into 3G due to band indifferences. It works on the EU networks like a charm though.. well it did I should say, HTC has no decided to charge me 220GBP to fix Newton rings on the touch screen which should be covered under warranty! I am very very annoyed with them; I was a loyal HTC customer for years.
Well not anymore, I ordered the Droid Pro activated and unlocked off Ebay for about 180GBP, your loss HTC. Have a look in my other thread by the way, Motorola just announced a EU version of the Droid Pro - untouched hardware! I would be very very interested in the ROM it comes with ... ) Might just help you with your reception on 3!

Maybe it's just the area that I'm in, but we'll see.
I will take a look at the other thread.
no 3G data on my Droid Pro on O2 Uk

Mine has been fine. I used it for a while on T-Mobile, and I was able to pick up 3G or HSPA pretty much everywhere. I'm on 3 now, but I'm thinking about going back to T-Mobile because the 3 signal seems to cut out randomly, and I can't seem to access the internet very much. I went with 3 because they're the only ones that let you use up to 1GB, but what's the point, if you can't access it anyway?

Have you set up the APN properly? I know I had to set up the APN when I switched to 3. I've never tried O2, so I don't know for sure, but that's the only guess that I've got.
Try the APN settings in this post:
http://forum.whatmobile.net/showpost.php?p=292435&postcount=4
Or, you can try entering your number on their website and seeing if they provide any suggestions for the settings:

Untouched indeed

I would also welcome an untouched ROM - I think with imported phones from the states the lock on the band limits the connection we get here in the UK with our unlocked phones.
My Droid Pro arrived today and I can confirm that it picks up 3G like a charm on the T-Mobile/Virgin UK lines. Reception is fairly good too, was never really strong where I live anyways but still quite speedy. So far now problems with any cut-outs, freezing etc... really stable. Did an OTA update as soon as I turned it on.
The seller fortunately supplied me with the original unlock code by verizon and it was pretty much just popping my card in, entering the code and boom it was ready to go.
Make sure when you want to import a Droid Pro into Europe:
* the seller is in good standing with Verizon
* the phone is not listed as having a bad ESN (impossible to activate!)
* asking the seller to activate it for you before it ships (so you can actually unlock it!)
* in my case, my seller was even kind enough to phone up Verizon for an unlock code, saves u the work of buying one.
Also, as in recent developments, Verizon seems to change the unlock codes OTA that makes it sometimes completey impossible to unlock it with one that u got of the internet, just warning you to consider taking the safe way!
The ESN doesn't matter so much if you're never going to go to the U.S. and use it, but a clean ESN is always better.
It really does suck that Verizon started doing the OTA code change thing. I'm glad I got mine and unlocked it before that started happening.
Yea but if the droid pro has a bad ESN means u can never get it activated, not even on Verizon in the US... I have seen some ways to get around it, but it doesnt really seem proven yet how reliable that is, e.g after an OTA update? Regardless, to have the least trouble getting it over here, recommendation should be to go for an activated w/ orignial verizon unlock code.
Thinking of selling mine
I may be getting a company phone so I might be selling mine.
I'm based in the UK.
Phone is unlocked and comes with extended battery, screen protectors, box etc, and is in EXCELLENT condition.
Asking £300 - meet in person preferred. Based in Birmingham, UK.
Please get in touch if you're interested.
Hi,
I have a Droid Pro in the UK on T-mobile and i find that although i get signal and 3G android only ever displays 1bar signal but under system prefs the signal is strong, apps sometimes say network error. over at the droid forums they have noticed this to be an issue with no fix.
Thanks

[Q] AT&T LG G2 unlocked to use on T-Mobile Carrier Rom/Root Questions

Hey Guys,
So, I bought a AT&T LG G2 phone (I had a gift card at Best Buy- they don't carry T-Mobile). I heard that AT&T had the same towers so it's easier to work with an unlocked phone through them, so I bought it there instead from T-Mobile itself.
However, now I realized I don't have some of the features I would have on a T-mobile LG G2, such as my wifi calling, etc. Now, since the phone is unlocked (and I just got it rooted), would installing a T-Mobile rom affect my phone in any way, good or bad? Should I only use AT&T roms? How would I use T-mobile app services?
I searched google for 2 days and couldn't find anything relevant to my question. I've used this site a lot in the past year-two for rooting and such. Thank you guys in advance for continuing to support open development for android.
Wondering the same, about to switch to tmobile.

Well, seems like no one has an answer to it...
Anyway, I went ahead and bought the phone. Since I do a lot of testing and rooting myself, this was the first time working on this type. I'm glad you posted, because I would have just forgotten about it now that I've solved the question I had... However, I figure it'd help in the future in case someone is also wondering the same.
Now, with that all stated... down to the answer.
If you bought an AT&T phone, and do an unlock code to use it on another carrier (such as T-mobile since they use the same towers), the rom you MUST use are the AT&T roms... NOT the T-mobile roms. The problem is, when you buy a AT&T phone, unlock it, and root your device to use another rom, it will not be compatible with T-Mobile roms because of the image files, etc. So yes- you will be losing all the features a T-Mobile rom would have such as wi-fi calling, etc...
However, a way to go about this (and it won't work with ALL the features that comes in a T-Mobile phone/rom), is to install a AT&T rom of your choice without all the crappy AT&T bloatware that you can't even use, and go to the T-Mobile section to look for an APK version of the files. Most of the time, T-Mobile roms will also remove the bloatware, however, some developers are kind enough to provide the bloatware APK files in case users would like to have certain one of them features, such as WiFi Calling.
So, that's how I did it, and it's working good.
PS- One last thing, you may have trouble going on the internet or playstore when you're unlocked to a different carrier. All you need to do is find the APN settings for your carrier. So in this case, I bought an AT&T phone, bought unlock code to use on my carrier T-Mobile, and got the T-Mobile APN settings set up, reboot, and I get all my 4G data, etc. You can get this by calling T-Mobile. Just say, you bought an unlocked phone and can't access data, internet, etc, and was told to set up a APN. Or, you can use google. :good:

So, would I be correct in stating that you will only get 4G in areas where it is offered @ 1900 MHz? What about 2100 MHz? Otherwise you will only get 3G HSPA+? As you can tell I'm a bit confused about compatibility between networks. According to wikipedia they will be doing away with 1900 MHz 4G by 2015. I'm trying to decide if it's worth buying an AT&T or Verizon phone to use on the T-Mobile pre-paid network because it seems the T-Mobile phones are not getting very much development.

Need help with reception on Fido with H910

Hello everyone,
I have bought a brand new Unlocked LG V20 H910 off of eBay in May. I have bought it so that it would be compatible with T-Mobile in the US and Fido in Canada (it seems that it had all the required bands). While in the US it worked fairly well with T-Mobile. Now that I am back in Canada on the Fido network, the reception is absolutely horrible. At places with my other phone (Galaxy S5) that I have full bars, I get no reception. Also, it seems that it switches tower often as sometimes I will get fairly good reception and then it would start searching and have no bars. I have been trying to figure out what to do about it and this is what I have done for now:
I rooted my h910 using this guide here thinking that maybe it would help. Then, I used only the beginning part of the guide to flash the H915 rom onto the phone hoping that a canadian firmware would work better for me in Canada. I ended up having to pay to re-unlock my phone, but it did not help at all. I tried following this thread here too.
I really don't know what to do anymore. When using T-Mobile SIM card in Canada, it also seems to have a harder time although it is better (it typically connects to videotron or Bell).
Do I need a new phone?
Anybody have any suggestions or ideas?
Thank you for your time.
