[Q] Problem using DLNA - Atrix 4G General

I'm unable to play media from my PC on my Atrix using DLNA. I get a message that reads " Sorry, internal error happened. The media file cannot be streaming played." Any ideas?

I'm able to stream and copy mp4s to my device no problem from a NAS. Most likely is a file compatibility issue. I couldn't play mpeg2s, but xvids played fine. Protected content wouldn't play either but that's to be expected.

My Xvids won't play.

I was having problems accessing PlayOn through DLNA.
UPDATE: Using the PlayOn Android apps works.

I can't use the DLNA with my Logitech Revue and with my PS3 I can only stream MP4 files. AVI's which play on my device can't be sent over DLNA yet if those files are on my PS3 they can be played.

If you can spare the CPU cycles, transcoding video through TVersity works great. So far I've had best results transcoding to WMV9. I haven't found anything it can't handle yet, and my video archive is a mishmash of containers and codecs.
I can stream an x264 mkv 1080p source to the Atrix as qhd wmv9 and it looks fantastic.
Does require a lot of CPU on the box running TVersity, so not a necessarily great solution for those currently using a nas or other embedded device for a DLNA server.

anyone able to get DLNA to work? I'm trying to stream some moves in .avi from my computer to my atrix by using DLNA, i can hear but no pictures. Does anybody know why?

What video codec is in your avi's? I was able to play most xvid avi's with other DLNA streamers like Fuppes before I switched to transcoding everything through TVersity.

Q: How did you get DLNA to play MKVs over TVersity streaming? Everytime i try to do that it says the media file can not be played. Before I had it Configured for my Xbox 360 so while the video of mkvs wouldn't show up, audio was crystal clear, now it only plays AVIs not MKVs not even audio always gives the media file cannot be played error. Can you post all your setting for tversity? I'd Appreciate that very much!

Ps3 media server and allshare

Mine works, I played some torrented tv off of mine not too long ago.
I should say I played video on my PS3 streaming from allshare on my tab

I haven't tried AllShare, but after my experiences with DLNA client on my Samsung TV I will not bother and try to find another DLNA client for Android.
I've streamed from my Tab to a Windows Media Centre PC and it worked fine.
The only "oddity" is that in AllShare, I can select the "Server" ok, but but I can't seem to actually select the "Display Device" so that I can press the next button. However, Media Centre can see the Tab, and can stream from it.
Regards,
Dave
Your best bet for a DLNA server is Tversity if you need transcoding.
If you don't, Samsung released their own DLNA server, the Samsung PC Share Manager, for their TVs. This server works fine to stream over AVIs and content that will play natively on the Tab anyway.
PS3 Media Server transcodes to streams not supported by the Tab.. it's a poor choice as it's tailored so specifically for the PS3.
Tried tversity still no luck with this allshare app. Would be nice to get this working.

Tried PS3 Media Sever and no luck. Basic media sharing on my WHS and my win7 box allows me to stream avi's but not MKVs. MKVs do play natively though so its the default player that is having the issue I think.
I wrote a quick "how-to" a bit ago here.

What is the error ? "an error message" makes diagnosis difficult.
PS3 Media server uses reasonably standard DLNA protocols, the main problem with most formats is just allshare being _very_ limited in the codecs that it supports.
You're better off getting CIFS working via threads elsewhere in this forum and mounting your media share as a local folder on the GTab. The native video app even plays .MKV files much to my amazement.
"sorry this video cannot be played" thats the message , ill take your reccomendation and check out cifs. I thought that the all share app would support the same vid files as the native player but i guess not.

[Q] Best way to watch videos from a windows share?

I have a network share on my win7 machine that has videos in divx and xvid.
What is the best way for me to access those files from my tf101 so I can watch them directly from the pc without copying it onto tf101 first?
Also, what media player could play them?
Thanks
I was just messing around but I watched vids from my TF that were located on my laptop via the "my cloud" app on the TF....it's the sub app called "splashtop" and it worked just fine....
upnplay app with moboplayer. Set up media streaming in windows7's media player. There should be instructions if you Google it.
Ive used plex and it seemed to play most of my videos fine.

Very few videos will play correctly due to honeycomb issues, but cifs works well. I suppose you could set up real time transcoding if you had a comp with enough power. Includinb dgnvdec somewhere in the decoding chain would work well for those with nvidia cards - as that would perform all resizing/decoding/deinterlacing via gpu, freeing up cpu to handle the smaller encode. I'm pretty sure the default movie player can handle many different transports.
File Manager HD can be networked with your home network and then I stream and play with Moboplayer. Works pretty good.
Plex will play videos that won't stream, like FLV files.
Splashtop will play netflix but with crappy quality.
UPNPlay has the best quality since it plays the original file but only the standard formats like avi and MPG.
I ran them directly using es viewer

seems like it has to load the whole video before u can "stream" it??? takes a long time to serve up a 2gb file

how ??
tried that and it says no player (i have moboplayer etc installed). if i then choose 'open as' and video is starts copying the whole file across ??
File Manager HD downloads the whole file, it doesn't support streaming AFAIK.
I use GMote and Moboplayer (for vids). Audio can be played directly in GMote. Works great.
Whats the best way to steam? Both ES and FileHD makes me download to cache which defeats the purpose of networking. If I use N speed would the download be faster?

Plex will actually only transcode if it needs to, if it doesn't it'll simply stream the original media AFAIK. I use it and love it. It's probably one of the easiest ways to get this set up, especially if you want remote access from outside of your intranet.
For .mpeg/avi streaming:
File Expert -> Dolphin Browser HD -> VPlayer
Can use MoboPlayer or RockPlayer instead of VPlayer, but seeking with VPlayer is better imho. Other file types may work...
mounted my network share in CIFS and play natively with mobo.... for the files that aren't supported by hardware playback, you can long press the file in mobo and use software decoding.

it wont work. the only thing you can transcode too is mpeg2 which the transformer cant do over upnp. mp4 cant be live streamed over upnp only over rtsp or rtmp, if you really want live transcoding look at vlc media player and vlc s+c for android. it takes a lot of tweaking but does work.
can you provide some more information about the transcode capabilities such as the lackof mpeg streaming

I have had no problems streaming mpeg2 even to the native player with Mediatomb. In fact, you can directly play mpeg2 files from an internet site (internet archive) if you have enough bandwidth. Even the matroska format will stream, although without sound and at an unpredictable framerate. Still, I think that problem is on the encoding side.
So what your saying is you can transcode with PS3 media server?
IE: if you were to take a video gotten from a generic source, lets say via bittorrent you can stream that with the PS3 media server?
Any video I try does not work. it only works if I transcode it with handbrake first.
any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If I was you I would go and get a WD media player. They go for about 60-90 bucks. I used the PS3 for about a year and I gave up. Mkv is not support on ps3 media server. Videos that it cant play you're pc will need to transcode before sending it over to your display. I ended up getting a dedicated media player. There are tons to choose from. WD, boxee, popcorn hour and dune players. No issues streaming 20-30GB blu ray movies when I had the WD player. PS3 sucks for streaming IMHO.
Actually, mpeg2 can be streamed over upnp.

Though it should be worth noting UPnPlay doesn't send a "streaming end" HTTP header to the UPNP server, so after you play one video PS3 media server doesn't know you stopped watching the video and will be stuck in the "streaming mode", causing any other video not to load until you restart PS3 Media Server. This problem only persists iwth PMS, Serviio works fine if you set the transcoding profile. I wish PMS worked as it is the only Server with full softsub support.
Edit: Opps accidentally pressed "Quote" instead of edit...
Just wanted to make sure i am trying with the same player as you.
I am using the "my Net" and selecting the ps3 media server from there.
With the new settings, when I go to play it it just hangs with "please Wait" previously it would just immediately end with "fail to load"

Did you edit Android.conf with my profile and then restarted the server? Also, use Upnplay combined with MoboPlayer.
I did edit the file with your settings and restart the server. Will download Upbplay (already have mobo installed).
Update in a few minutes
That does seem to work. I am able to play non HD videos.
I was able to play different video's back to back without restarting, I tested with three different videos, watch 1 min of each.
I tested out a topgear episode that is 720p. My PC says its being trans-coded, but moboplayer just says "loading". After 1.5 minutes i cancelled out by going "home"
I then restarted the PS3 media server and reloaded upnplay and tried the video again. my PC still says transcoding and serving but mobo is stuck on loading.
Under Transcoding settings, i don't have Avisynth/FFmpeg or Avisynth/Mencoder available as they are marked red if that means anything
Any suggestions?
Thanks for being so helpful. I really appreciate it.
I know this post is asking about ps3 media server, and I have tried to use it also, but what I have found is a media server called PLEX, there is a mac/windows/even Linux server version, then you get the client on the app store for $5. I can not believe how well this app allows me to stream VOB/MKV/MPG,etc, and it allows me to do this all the way up to HIGH PROFILE 1080p MKV, oh and it also allows me to do this on a remote wifi connection or even on 3g, it really is amazing what these guys have pulled together. The other HUGE plus is it is a branch off of XBMC, so you have the same similar interface with all scraping, etc automatically, it can also do music and supports plugins. Anyways I would suggest you try it, server is free to download, and the app is so worth the measly $5, just suggest you get the server all setup and working before you buy the app. but even if you don;t like it the plex team will refund your money if you are not happy so there is really no remorse checking it out. Hope this helps, I am off to watch a 1080p high profile mkv on my transformer >
I think OP is trying to get PMS working so he can watch media on his PS3 too without running 2 servers. As to why HD vids don't play, maybe it didn't detect the need to transcode it, I need to look into this again after exam's over (maybe that'll explain why my videos didn't play properly when I tested), feel free to use the PS3.conf and try different things. It doesn't matter if you have ffdshow/avisynth, it uses bundled mencoder to re-encode. All that matters i that your PC can play the video fine in DirectShow players like Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, Zoom Player.
I tried the above .conf file settings and still when running an HD video
it won't limit the video size
is there a way to transcode down into say
800x480
I tried this
MaxVideoWidth=800
MaxVideoHeight=480
RobH79: Thanks for the information. So far I am most of the the way to my end goal. The last hold out being the 720p video's.
I believe the OP (like myself) do not want to run 2x renders, one for the PS3, one for the tablet.
Frosty:
The video does play fine on my PC using VLC but not with Windows media player ( I anticipate this is why all my below troubleshooting did nothing based upon your last response.)
I have done some more testing and tried a few different settings in the config, such as
MaxVideoWidth=800
MaxVideoHeight=600
and MaxVideoBitrateMbps=3
so far nothing has worked.
The video does play fine on my PC using VLC. I still see PS3 Media Server using the transcoding buffer, and Mencoder is using varying amounts of CPU and the java memory size is increasing as time goes on (I assume filling up the buffer)
**Update Since I started typing**
I went to: http://matroska.org/technical/guides/playback/windows/index.html and found out that i needed the CCCP pack, i usually dont install it on my system from a bad experience many years ago.
However I installed it and now it plays fine in windows media player.
I loaded up PS3 Media server and tried streaming again from my tablet...
And no luck, same issue as before. I went through all the other variations of the tweaks above and also no luck.
Any other suggestions?
I also tried to get myNet working, but i found this.
myNet uses AwoX as UserAgent name. So copy Android.conf and rename the file and change from:
UserAgentSearch=Android
to
UserAgentSearch=AwoX
But all upnp clients that you can download in the market use Android.conf. I know so far that only AVIs/WMV are working. However no MKVs.
ok... just my 2 cents
I have a tonido plug running ubuntun 9.04 and mediatomb as a server, no transcoding eneabled.
I installed UPnPlay from market as a upnp renderer (audio only, but support to stream video with external palyer)
I got DicePlayer (paid app) and am able to stream mkv, avi, mov, mp4 containers, even some movies that have srt or sub subtitles, however if I connect my tablet to a TV via HDMI I only get the video and not the subs... MyNet app gives a lot of trouble working with m3u playlists and can only render a file at a time, meaning if you want to play continous audio/viedo you need to go one by one manually.
So far I'm happy with this setup, planning on upgragind my local WLAN to "N" standard byt so far 54gb are good, not exellent
On the down side, I haven't got the time to tweak mediatomb to present in a convinient way video files, it throws everything regardless of the folder structure you have on the server hard disk
Edit, if you know how to hard encode and stream subtitles info is appreciated, also if you know to send subs via HDMI to tv I'll be grateful

Atrix & PS3 Media Server (DLNA)

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone around here is using PS3 Media Server with their Atrix?
Specifically, be able to play movies (mostly MKVs, some High Profile) from the PS3 Media Server (currently running 1.30.1, also tried 1.40 beta 2)
I keep getting some invalid stream messages from all the players and UPNP/DLNA controllers I tried (BubbleUPNP, UPnplay) using Video players MoboPlayer and MX VIdeo Pro.
AVI files work just fine. But MKVs just don't work. I didn't try any other formats (MP4 for example, I would assume it works as it's natively supported on the Atrix)
Has anyone managed to make a Renderer .conf for PS3 Media Player that works well with the Atrix ?
I searched the forum and couldn't find anything. I also searched PS3MediaServer's and couldn't find anyhting that worked. (except one thread from someone asking the same question as I do, with no answers)
Thanks for any feedback you may have.
Noone?

As far as I know. The Atrix won't play any high profile mp4, or mkv. I have used your exact setup. The only thing I can recommend is that you try to have the settings so that it transcodes the videos in a 720p main to low profile that the Atrix can render. I've noticed it doesn't like videos with ac3 5.1 audio. Only aac. Its funny, so many people trash the iPhone 4 but it plays almost all the videos I've tried, whether I'm streaming over DLNA or streaming over the web.

Thanks, I'll try this. I also have problem playing .mkv files using default samsung video player and mx player.
About the upnp/dlna browser, how's the mediahouse compared to other browser like upnplay?
Your problem with mkv playback is most likely related to running stock Samsung Rom and software. I used to love the stock dlna player until I realized it does not like mkvs. I recommend dice player. It lists and plays all the files on my media server, including 1080p mkvs. And its great because its just one app instead of 2.
