Concern with Best Buy's customer service - Nexus S General

For those who bought the Nexus S from Best Buy, are you concerned with their customer services? I am concerned after reading countless complaints on their forum and the web.
I got into reading about them because my order still hasn't been processed 4 days after submitting it. I've read about the order status issue exactly like mine, inconsistent answers from different CSRs, totally useless answers from CSRs (basically saying they couldn't help in anyway) etc.
I am now thinking whether I should cancel the order and buy somewhere else (Clove UK sell them for a bit more). What are your experience?

Their customer service sucks!! I had a terrible experience when I exchanged my nexus s because the fingerprint display coating was peeling!!

As someone who worked for bestbuy I can say that customer service is pretty much a gamble. Some people who work there really want to help you and others want you to go the **** away so they can just get on with joy caring.

If you are in the states I say find a bb that has nice and knowledgeable mobile employees. Their mobile employees are much better on average than the regular ones. Its actually a whole different subsidiary of the company. I couldn't say better things about the ones at the store by my house but I have experienced bad ones at another store. I love best buy mobile and will buy my next tmo or other phone through them. They are awesome.

Agreed. Though the chick who set up my account was either just having an off day or was new because she screwed up the data plan on my wife's phone. She post dated the start date. I went into the Tmo store to get it fixed and they had no idea what she did lol. Oh well, I got a free month of data out of it so who cares?

Those who ordered online, how long did you have to wait before getting it? It's been 5 days, and the order is still being processed. I've already posted on their customer support forum yesterday, so far no reply yet.
The reason I wanted to try the Best Buy forum first is because I see their forum stuff are being far more helpful than those CSRs answering phones.

I about lost my freakin mind at best buy because they are so ignorant in the mobile department. I'll spare you the details.
I love the rest of the store though.

Pretty much, none of them know what they're talking about. I had an associate tell me that their are two different nexus s and unlocked one and one for t-mobile smh.

My Sprint "Experience"

Ok, So I am incredibly unsatisfied with Sprint's service as of late. I purchased the Epic 4g Touch and experienced the dreaded "Loss Of Service" bug frequently. I was within my 14 day return limit so I went into the Visalia California Sprint Store to swap out for a different model (namely the Evo 3d which I traded in for the e4gt). I also signed 5 of my friends up with sprint as well and 2 of them got the e4gt and had the same exact issues. They convinced me to try a replacement and assured me that if it still experienced that bug I could return it within 14 days of receiving the replacement phone. The replacement phone was worse than the one I had originally and lost service every hour. I missed several calls from work leaving my employer under the impression I was angry and ignoring her and almost cost me my job. So I went in to the Visalia California store yet again to get a replacement model. I spoke with the same woman that convinced me to get the replacement model (She was also the manager) and she stated that the device was out of its 14 days since the FIRST device and that I couldn't get a different model (see what she did there?). So I went home and called Sprint off of another line and spent 4 hours total on hold. I hung up and called Sprint tech support and after running tests and walking me through updates and such the rep spoke with a manager on his end and concluded that I needed a different model of phone. He stated that he would note that down in the ticket and to go into the Visalia California store and they would give me a different model. So I went in to the store and spoke with the manager yet again. This time after reading the ticket she became rude and uncivil stating that the ticket says "customer needs to try a different model of phone" and that they didn't have to provide it for me and that even if it did, corporate cannot make them give me a different model. The whole time I was civil and polite but my frustration was building. I drove an hour to the Sprint store in Fresno only to find out that Visalia had to handle my case and that they could not even replace it with the same model. So I found a man on craigslist and traded it for a Nexus S 4g. I plan on paying out my contract asap and switching to Verizon. They know how to treat a customer.
/End rant/
I might be wrong, but i'm pretty sure since you live in the state of California you have up to 30-days to return a device and not 14 like other states.
i was told 14.
This thread should be titled “my Samsung experience.”
Welcome to Samsung. You have been initiated.
*nevermind*
read your local laws, scan or photo them, and send them to sprint. I have been a customer since 1999 and they would NEVER pull this poo with me. I threaten them every time I am on the phone, you'll get what you want, ask for the account retention department...
Wait what the hell? Verizon and AT&T both limit your data now? WTF I cant do that God they are sooo lucky I need a phone. So I get a choice between sh*tty customer service and sh*tty cellphone service... I can't live in this world anymore

sprint is fine, i work for them, it's just you always get the a**holes at some sprint stores, i would never treat a customer like that, let alone lead them in the wrong direction just for a commissioned pay, that's probably why that manager did that, but anywho, don't be mad at sprint, i'm sure you experience will get better with them, my parents have been with them for 15 years+ and never had an issue, and i've been with them for about 5 or 6 under my parents account, they have good service, just right now it's kinda hard keeping everyone happy while doing a MASSIVE network upgrade, but some people are impatient, but trust me sprint is the way to go
P.S. from reading your post, the initial issue does sound like it was the phone itself, you should have gotten something else, and don't bother with the 3d unless you can return it, i'm using it now, low signal strength, i would recommend the Photon (also own) the signal strength and radios in that phone are the strongest i've ever seen in any phone out there
buy your phone at target next time they have way better deals than sprint company stores and do a 30 day exchange period.. i work at a target mobile, we will treat you right,

new Sprint employee

After 13 years of jiffy lube store manager, they closed my store and laid me off. got my foot in the door at sprint. my first day is today, never worked wireless before, any tips? suggestions? advice from any Sprint employees?
What's your position @Sprint?
But in general: though I've never worked for Sprint, I was VP of radio infrastructure for France Telecom (Orange) for several years before the Army needed me.
If you want to survive you need to be updating yourself and reading a lot, and I mean, A LOT ! The wireless industry grows by the second and there are many chnges to follow: company policy, infrastructure, contracts, phones and OS sponsorship...
I would suggest that if your going to work forward facing to the customer the first thing you should do is read the entire current customer contract agreement, fine print and all, that should give you good grounds to speak properly to all customers you face with issues. Second read very well all the current plans and learn about recent or up coming plan changes, this will make you versed on the bred and butter of the company, it will also help when it comes to correctly recommend a wireless plan to the customer. Third, read read and read.
Forth, do all 3 steps over and over non stop all the time.
Good luck and stay sharp!

but I am using Sprint, have 5 lines, but while I was in for the interview I picked up every pamphlet they had. I start at 2 so I figured I'd read them all a dozen times or so. Being a phone junkie and computer need plus 14 years of customer service under my belt I should be OK

This isn't phone related, but I'll bite and be the bad guy here. I don't hope you stay there too long. 13 years as a manager and now an entry level sales person. Come on now, you can do better than this. Why did you even apply there in the first place? Don't give me that crap about the economy being bad blah blah blah. During your last 13 years, did you reach out to other possibilities? Did you network and ask around? Was your plan to be at Iffy Lube forever? Aim freakin higher! My post is not to criticize, its purpose is to smack you in the head and remove the complacent cloud that you've been stuck in. Here's the plan, within 6 months, I expect you to be the store manager there. And 6 months after that, I want you to start looking for another job. Unless you want to be the manager there for the next decade. People will come out and defend your choice, "there's nothing wrong with working at a Sprint store". You know what, there's nothing wrong with flipping burgers either. But in both cases, it should be a temporary job and not a career. I don't want to see this post down the road, "After working 13 years as a Sprint store manager, I was laid off...".

Nexus 4 RMA for a new phone?

Hey guys,
I want to RMA my Nexus 4 due to the buttons not feeling right but my friend wants to buy it off me for more than I what I bought the phone. If I RMA the phone and my friend buys the phone off me, what happens?
If the RMA comes and no phone is returned, I get charged, which is fine but I don't think Google would like this very much.
Or would you guys recommend me just waiting till it goes back in stock and buying the phone the regularly? Thanks.
you can just RMA it then not send a phone back and they will just charge you. they wont care as long as they get their money. and if they do theyre not gonna do anything about it
It depends how much you value morals and ethics.

Same applies for Google. But they don't seen to care much about their "loyal" customers. Rather ditching them, they started sending devices to the people who ordered later. Hence, I would be wise of OP to sell it to his friend and get another RMA device.

It is even more depressing if you expect such lousy service from the biggest online search gaint. If Google can't help by controlling the situation, so do us.
Besides, rather than coming forward and and informing their customers what EXACTLY is happening at the back end (the cause of such dreadful launch), they are playing "blame-game". Where are Google's morals? ethics? loyalty towards customer's?

Of course I expect crappy service. They are a search giant, not a retailer. They clearly have extremely limited experience in selling products, so I didn't expect too much. Besides, like I said they don't even ship the devices.

Well in that case, they would have been intelligent enough and out-sourced agencies to retail stuff for them. There were many things they would have done rather then just disappointing their customers. And let's say they actually screwed it up.. what now? Stay quiet? Let customers suffer? No official statement about whats going on with them?
We all know the wait is a killer... u just can't get over it. It just bugs you a lot. Just imagine if u r dying to get Nexus 4 and do not foresee any hope of it coming back in a few weeks and even if it comes, the delivery will again take weeks. So in such scenario if the OP wants to sell his device to his friend, what's wrong? His friend is paying him. He is paying Google. Payment is made and device remains with the customer. Thing is done.
However, selling it on premium is greedy-ness but if OP's friend is willing to pay more :/.. then it's his call.

Who is to blame for this poor G2 launch on at&t, my experience..

So I go to my nearest local at&t store and when I ask for it they said I think we have it on display, but not in stock. Maybe will get stock later from delivery. I go to my next nearest store, and they have it on display as well. I ask him to get me one and he says they have none in the back. I have a definite contact that would hold one for me at his store but its an hour from me but I was about to take the road trip. As I left the 2nd at&t store, I get in my car and the 2nd at&t store rep calls me on my phone and says I found some in the back they were in my managers office. I go back and purchase it off contract. I dare ask for any available cases, he goes to the back again and says they cant find none but one pink one. I said no thanks, no offense to pink cases.
So with that being said, who's fault is this? I actually think it's LG's fault for not pushing for a bigger launch. They dont seem worried, oh well I got one and I'm liking it. Gonna root it and debloat this poor bloated G2. I just hope the battery life is better than my sgs4, I'm using whatever charge it came with today. It sort of reminds me of my nexus 4, the double tap to turn on/off is a stock feature I thought I would never see.
Anyone else with a similar experience? Maybe companies should not launch on Friday the 13th??

This is why I ordered on AT&T website. I placed the order 9/10 at 11pm and it was in my hands on 9/12. I hate dealing with local AT&T stores, at least in the DC/Metro area.
ordered the friday it came out on 9/6 was in my hands monday morning, have been in contact with the guys on IRC, hope we can get this thing cracked soon. =P
Same here. Premier order was even worse. I actually ended up getting one in store this morning. My premier order is still processing from the 11th. Will refuse it when it comes since I can't cancel according to them even though it hasn't shipped.

Bottom line is At&t employees are bunch of dummies. Kidding. Im sure people are quite smart going in but once theyve been in the cluster F ( that is At&t) they are screwed. At&t tells them what phones to push ( Iphones, S4's HTC's etc) and all the others are just fillers. Ive been into at&t stores before and educated the sales rep about the phones they have on display and in most cases they dont even care. This is your freggin job people!! Hello???!!! I ran into the same thing when I purchased the LG OGP - they were clueless and kept wanting me to take a look at the HTC One! Im sure its partly LG's fault but end of the day (IMO) its not just At&t employees that are clueless, Ive encountered the same thing at TMO and Verizon stores too. Never set foot in a Sprint store so I can comment on them.

I've experienced the same thing from AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Almost none of the reps that I've spoken with are knowledgeable on phones. I went to a Verizon store wanting to purchase an HTC Droid DNA and was directed to a Note II. I advised him of the reason I was interested in the DNA. Not interested in the Note for the same reasons.

Well I used to work for At&t and I can tell you that they do not really care which phones you buy (to an extent). They only really make money off of contracts. The problem is that they only educate workers on the more popular phones, so they tend to show you a Samsung so they don't look stupid since they know nothing about LG. The problem is that they are really pushing you to increase your MRC (Monthly Recurring Revenue). So they want things like Mobile Protection Pack and they encourage you to add a line or buy marked up accessories. It doesn't matter which phone you buy. They spend very little time teaching employees about a Snapdragon 800 and lots of time about the 5 key behaviors of sales. I just happen to be a hardcore phone enthusiast so would be able to talk with customers about every phone. So this is the real reason behind another terrible LG launch. Like the G Pro. At&t only cares about phones that will bring in more customers so they can increase sales, like iPhones. plus people who buy iPhones tend to buy more accessories and have multiple cases. And people like us tend to shop online and only buy store accessories when we're desperate and are waiting for our case from Amazon to arrive. So there you have it guys.
I agree.

Why is Verizon employee telling me not to get this?

Verizon employees keep telling me this phone is crap when I try to go buy one. They told me they have only sold one and it was returned. But this contradicts everything ive read. It has outstanding reviews. Any ideas?
most likely bc they don't get paid out well on it, or know nothing about it and would rather sell you an iphone or a moto x.
Or Droid since those are Verizon most advertised phones. Lg is underrated making the pretty much the best phones since ca one year now.

Ya definetly can tell, but my dad cant lol. Hes picking it up for me and they are feeding him the lines. He doesnt think I should get it now. Hate Verizon
Verizon sales reps have a $100 accessory quota and will talk down any phone with little choice in accessory.

Yeah took my VZW rep 10 minutes to turn on the phone. Couldnt find the power button to save his life...LOL
Moto pretty much owns Verizon and Samsung spends way too much on marketing. LG is kind of out of the picture unfortunately.
Interestingly enough, I stopped by my local Verzon (Corp Store) to check out the flip case for the G2 and the Sales Rep said, "they don't carry accessories until the phone is released" and that the "G2 is available for pre-order only." I asked to speak to a Manager who said the same thing only added a condescending "I have been the Mgr here for years and know my inventory."
I thoroughly enjoyed whipping out my G2 and dropping a "well I guess I'm from the future?!" They spent the next 30 minutes finding the phone in their inventory and asking each other about specs, selling features, etc.
Bottom line: Verizon doesn't care about the G2. However, they're all trained up on the motox, S4 and upcoming 5S
Had the same experience on Friday. Pretty much told me the phone was garbage and I would be bring it back. Tried selling me the S4 (coming from the S3 lol), or the Moto X.

FWIW, my sales rep literally had never heard of the phone and I had to show her which one it was. She also knew absolutely nothing about the device when it came time for her to activate it. I had to show her where the power button was, etc...
Same experience with me. The idiot sales rep tried to sell me an HTC One when I asked for the G2. She claimed it was much better phone and was very excited about showing me the new cases for it too. I hate dealing with these people.
They have too much current inventory belonging to their moneymaking manufacturers and too high of incentives to keep you in the "droid" family. The guy at the corporate store by me didn't know what it was when I asked for it but did find it & bring it out for me to see. No demo units on the floor until the 17th or 18th though. Even though I've never had an lg before, I'm strongly leaning toward this one. Gotta buy it outright tho to kelp unlimited.

Ya the guy at mine told us he had it for 3 months??? That doesn't even make sense lol. He said that it got slow and broke after 2 months. Hasn't this phone only been announced for like 2 months? Cant believe they would lie that terribly.
Exact same experience, I was told that LG was garbage and stick to the HTC one or S4.

Probably someone who has it confused with the original g, or pro?
I understand that us XDA members know much more about these devices than your average person. Much more. But sales people? Ridiculous. Have you ever listened to one of these guys sell a phone to someone after the customer explained what features they needed? I've heard these people lie (or maybe they're that ignorant) to get the customer on the phone with the biggest profit margin. I saw a lady looking at a maxx until the sales person came up and took her to a DNA because it had better battery life. Anyway, how many people have you heard say they hate their phone? (Non enthusiasts) Most of the time it's a phone you or I would like. They hate it because they were sold the wrong phone. These days they're packing enough stuff into one phone that it doesn't matter so much but not too long ago, you really had to find a phone that fit you. Still the case I guess but MOST sales people just don't care about the customer. If I go to a store, it's only because I can't wait for next day shipping.

I can say my experience at the Verizon store in midtown Omaha, NE was the opposite... The sales person that assisted me was an extremely attractive young lady of 23 to 24 whose phone knowledge was excellent. Instead of trying to sell me something else, she knew the best way to work with a customer is to be agreeable, pleasant, and empathetic.
Usually I get some jackass in an over-sized oxford with droopy slacks trying to work me with his easybro "charm". "Hey man, you gotta protect that inVESTment... you NEED this screen protector."

Picture or it never happened
I love me some stupid VZW sales reps. And the corporate store prices for accessories are horrible too.
The sad thing is it's going to be very difficult for this device to succeed. LG has done virtually nothing to market it that I've seen, and the Verizon reps don't even know it's on display in their store. Were it not for the online reviews I stumbled upon, I wouldn't even know the phone existed.
If the exact same phone had Samsung on it and their marketing behind it, then the sky would be the limit.
