[Q] Sync with Outlook - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi All
After I moved to Android (And very happy I did) I am looking to upgrade to 2.3.2. After I did I am not able to sync with outlook. I used HTC SYNC.
It there something I am doing wrong or is there a other app I can use.
Thank you in advance

and after that install nitrodesk touchdown (exchange client for android)

Stop syncing with Outlook.
I recommend, open GMAIL account, then sync with GMAIL instead, and if you want to sync back to Outlook, download googlesync for outlook.
You can try this:
http://www.android-sync.com/
It uses ADB to sync.
However, connecting an Android phone to a computer is somewhat waste of time, everything can be done wirelessly including charging nowadays anyways.

MyPhoneExplorer
I recommend MyPhoneExplorer to sync Android builds with Outlook. Using it since it came out and it works great. There's even WLAN syncing supported (you need a plugin from the Market do be able to use WLAN). Also available from Market. Great software and comfortable as hell. Only downside: No Outlook category support.
Cheers, Olioaglio

+1, good program

If you use Outlook and sync on a work pc in an environment which is locked down and you can't just install all of these apps being suggested, just try re-installing HTC Sync and the HTC drivers. Works for me.

I'll assume you don't have Exchange. If you do, then just sync directly with Exchange. I you prefer all the benefits of having an Exchange account but want it for personal use, Microsoft now gives ActiveSync/Exchange support with all Hotmail accounts. Just get a hotmail account.
Gmail account is good for personal use, but I prefer all the interactivity that Microsoft has.
If you just want to sync, I'll second the vote for MyPhone Explorer

[Q] Easy way to move personal data

Hey guys,
I know this isnt a Development related question, but i think a suitable answer to this question would be invaluable (i for one find myself installing all of the new builds as they come out). Is there an easy way to move things like calendar appointments and contacts from WinMo to Android?
Thanks

Use google's tools.
You can SYNC winmo contacts and calendar with Google's FREE online calendar...
then when you run Android, it will sync with the same data.
Also, when do use Google's online stuff, if you lose your phone, or you reinstall, all your contacts and calendar items resync with your new phone As long as you have a data connection (wifi or phone)
How can i get google sync to work in wm6.5? Here, in the activesync program, clicking the "set up your device to sync with it" link does nothing...
thats how it says to do it on the google sync website.

sorry, if this is not the right answer...
For WinMO - Use ActiveSync to Connect to your device, setup Sync Partnership, and it will sync from Outlook (emails, contacts, etc etc... depends on how much you choose)
For Android - the options are (depends on which accounts is selected to sync contacts)
1. Google Sync - It will sync your contacts from your gmail account
2. Corporate Account - if you are on exchange, this will sync all your contacts from Outlook.
these are 1 to 1 syncs.
-----------------
To do Outlook -> Gmail -> Android, I believe there are some software you can use... i read on google, but reviews are very subjective, and I have tried none, so wont be able to recommend.
For corporate use, I have heard CompanionLink and Touchdown to be good.

can you please post the link you are using ....
Sry I'm new so I can't post any links but searching "google sync" in google should return correct link in first result.
My suggestion - don't sync mail, it's buggy. Better use IMAP for gmail and sync only contacts / calendar.
If "set up your device..." link is dead (that was my case also) try searching ActiveSync menu for "server source" or something like that (my ROM is localized so I don't know how it's called in English version). When done proceed as in tutorial about google sync. My ROM is WM6.1 but 6.5 should work the same way.
YES I was able to fully sync contacts & calendar that way with my google account. Syncing works both ways and if you set it up correctly it will push any new or updated items almost instantly between account and a phone.

It works!
I though it tried it but i guess not. Thanks for the reply and welcome to the forums
Android uses its own internal google sync to make sure your contacts and calendar etc are synced with Google's servers.... GOOD
Windows Mobile is ALSO supported by Google who are using Exchange server!!!...you can sync over the air with ActiveSync (m.google.com)... look on Google's support site or search for "Google ActiveSync"... note, Google only supports Contacs, Calendar and Mail sync (push), it does not support tasks or notes.
Works flawlessly for me, except for STUPID HTC messing with the 'notes' field in my contacts. This is a HTC bug, so beware.
So basically, IF you use Google for your contacts and Calendar, you can keep WinMo and Android in perfect sync

I just tried it using this link which shows the instructions on how to do it... but incase your are having syncin problems after followin the instructions uncheck the tasks option when asked wht you want to sync....
So in other words your contacts and your calendar will be in sync

How sync task...using Outlook Only no Google??

Still waiting on my DINC...
I am a WM user and ActiveSync does sync task. I read the HTC sync does not and I need all my contacts, calendar, task, etc sync
I do not use Google at all so can anyone recommend to me how to sync task or maybe another app I can use...?
Not your answer but ...
My #1 concern when leaving WM (I really really wanted my next phone to be WM) was outlook sync. I am very happy with the Calendar and Contact sync the Incredible does. I have not tried tasks and can't tell you about that. I use rememberthemilk for tasks; it is an online task manager which will also sync to astrid (free task manager) on your phone.

Wow...thx this is good feedback and I agree I do not have my DINC yet but am very concerned about leaving WM in the fact I do not know how my Outlook data will sync over to the new device since I am so use to ActiveSync
So sounds like you are saying installing rememberthemilk with add the function to sync my Outlook task to the DINC device..?
I switch from WM6.1 to DINC the day it came out. I use Touchdown for Exchange syncing and it works very well (occasionally it loses settings but that is a refresh and a re-sync of 15 minutes). Touchdown is $20, but Android 2.2 will have better Exchange capabilities I understand.
I don't use Tasks so its not that big a deal to me but everything else works flawlessly. Here is a link to the new Exchange features:

Sounds interesting....how does this help when I use copy email Outlook which is on Exchange and then I use personal email on my home Outlook...the WM creates separate mailboxes for Exchange mail and the other personal mail??
Syncing tasks is a big deal to me too. So far I've found only one way to do it well with my desktop Outlook and my DI. On the Incredible I use an app called Got to Do. It is nothing but a task/to do list. BUT, it does sync with a web-based app called Toodledo, which has a feature that syncs with Outlook.
So my Outlook tasks automatically sync with Toodledo, which automatically syncs with the app on my DI.
So far it's working okay but if someone were to develop a stand alone desktop app that syncs with an android app, I'd sure take s hard look at it.
Good info...thx
I have all my contacts loaded on my account on my company's exchange server. I sync all my email and contacts and calendar through there. I don't do tasks.
Sometimes there are "glitches" that require you to have to mess with it. I had to re-add my account probably twice since 5/1 but its quick and easy to do.

I just set up my groupwise email account as an IMAP account (you could do pop3 too) and it works fine. For calendar I set up a rule for all posted appointments to be delegated to my gmail calendar and then that syncs with my phone

Unfortunately not all IT departments allow IMAP/POP with the Groupwise server (my company included)...so I'm stuck trying to find some 3rd party software that can sync my corporate Groupwise e-mail to my new HTC Desire....
Do you have MS Outlook at your disposal? I find that if I install Groupwise on m computer first, then install MS Outlook, Outlook picks up my Groupwise account automatically. Then I use Google's free calendar sync utility on the computer to sync everything from Groupwise to Google Calendar. Really, once you get it set up, it mostly takes care of itself. I have no further special knowledge however, I just installed it and it worked for me.

FYI, this only works with GW7 and Outlook 2003. The magic is done by something called Groupwise Outlook Connector, which has been discontinued for GW8 and does not support Outlook 2007.
I've heard rumours that GW8 installed over GW7 still retains the connector, and thus is able to work with Outlook 2003. Not sure about it though.
Hmmm.... I have Groupwise version 8 and Outlook 2007, and it's worked fine for me. I honestly can't remember at the moment whether I ever had the older versions of these apps installed on this machine.

FYI: sync with Outlook

-Make yourself a gmail account
-add account to Android and set sync settings
-install Google Sync on your PC, set sync settings
-sync between Outlook and Android, and always have an online access as well.
Seems a lot if people forget this is a Google OS, and it loves Google applications!
Sent from my Android HD2 using XDA App
Or as I already wrote like four times here, you could just download Android Sync and avoid having to sync your contacts with another service.

sorry.. been reading through the threads, and see so many asking/complaining about how to sync with Outlook, still going to use WinMo for calendar, etc...
I like the looks of Android Sync.. very promising! but for use right now, Google sync is my way to go- OTA, and manual and automatic.
was already looking for a solution and now I have 2, thx you guys
I use an exchange server and it syncs just fine; is this for those that don't or is my server special somehow?

I don't know much about exchange servers- if its working, cool!
you need a gmail account for google payments and the Android market- loved how I logged in and all my apps from the MT3G I had last year were sitting there waiting for me to reinstall!
Google Sync works great for calendar- had to upload my Outlook contacts as a *.csv file and then they were all in Android. when this Android Sync is finished, I'll be using it!!
so happy to have Android again.. feels like home..

Best way to migrate data from WM6.5 to Froyo

Hi all.
With the hopeful impending arrival of my DHD, I am keen to know the best way to migrate my contacts, calendar etc to Froyo.
I know I can sync my activesync to sync with Google, but is that the best way?
I want to maintain as much as I can if possible....
oggsync does fairly good to sync contacts and calendar, but some features missing unless you use the paid version.
another alternative (free as long as you have Outlook in your PC):
activesync to desktop outlook -> export to csv from desktop outlook -> use Import feature in the gmail website -> let the data sync from google account to handset.
grateful if somebody could give an advice re tasks. the Task feature of gmail doesn't support recurrent task, and hence absolutely not my choice. Astrid looks good enough on Android, but seems i must manually re-enter all outstanding tasks.
The best way is
On WM6.x use Exchange Server from Google using the google account that you are going to use on Android, and then in Android use that google email account and everything will transfer to android. Simple as that...
thanks for your advice.
you mean this Google Sync service?
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/topic.py?topic=14299
EDIT: trying it now. it's handy. thanks!
What I did, was export all my contacts and appointments, and then imported them into my Gmail account. Then synced when I was within Android on my HD2.
Works very well.
cool thread this
i have my contacts backed up on WMDC, but my phone is now dead is there any way to get them from WMDC or microsoft outlook to the DHD
I hope this might help

It is free from their end .... From your Mobile side all you need is internet connection
