same here but I did mine a day before you... so mine will be here tomorrow before 3 ;-)

Welcome to the club guys! What phones are you coming from?

I have a Fuze, I would like to move to Windows Phone 7 but I want to wait till it is developed further. Looks like a decent phone and can't beat the price. lol

I ordered a pair on the 23rd and received them on the 24th. Coming from Windows Mobile 6.5 and Palm Pre, the switch is very welcome. Lots of reviews call it a budget Android phone. That may be true, but this budget phone is much more functional than others I've used over the years. I'll bet you'll like it.

For the price it should hold me over till ATT comes out with something I really WANT. I need a new toy. Android seems like there is a lot to learn, which I welcome so should be fun.

Got my Aria

I got my Aria from Wirefly.com online for FREE!!!

I found a few threads about wireless tethering but nothing about wired tethering. Is the Aria able to tether over usb out of the box from ATT or does something need to be done?

No, the AT&T Aria does not support wired tethering either out of the box. You will need to install a tethering app. There are a few options in the Market, but you will need to put your Aria in 'Airplane' mode and then make a WiFi connection and access the Market in that manner to search for tethering apps. If you connect to the Market via the AT&T network, they filter out searches for tethering apps.

Thank you, I had read about the airplane mode trick and "tethering apps" just didn't see anything about wired tethering.

HUH?
Doesnt blocking certain sites now violate the new net neutrality? LMAO

The Aria is a great phone with great potential. Despite being a 'mid grade' phone, it's awesome. Very reliable. GPS is great and Camera is great too. Screw Samsung

I agree the aria is a great phone it destroys my old HTC Touch and crappy windows mobile.

Not sure if it applies in this case, but wireless providers were specifically excluded from a large portion of the new FCC rules.

dont laugh... but lg shine (lol). I have been using this one as my others broke. My previous was an orange mobile branded htc kaiser (with the 2 cameras). I brought an iphone for my aunt on my account, so now that my 2 year wait period is up, I now have an aria lol.

Does any kind of screen protector come with the phone, my Fuze came with 1. I don't see one listed anywhere.

being mine was used it did. You can order them for cheap off ebay. I just got a 5 pack for 3.45 (free shipping)

typically all you get with the new phone is a 2GB SD card, Headphones, user manual. thats it. protector film is pretty cheap to buy anyway

Yeah they are cheap, I can't stand a scratched screen, wanted to know if I needed to get something now.

Advantage for sale/trade

I made the decision to trade or sell my Advantage X7501 today.
Not that there is anything wrong with the Advantage, it is just not working for me as I had hoped. If anyone is interested in it let me know. I will entertain fair offers and or trades for a HTC branded Touch or HTC branded Kaiser and cash.
The Advantage is only 1 month old, and the only marks on it are where the keyboard touches the base of the unit. It has been unlocked with the unlocker we have all used on this site.
Juste PMed you !
Still for sale or trade, any interest? I would like to do a trade for some cash and a HTC Touch. Otherwise I guess it's off to eBay with it.

The X7501 is too cumbersome for me. Don't get me wrong, I really like this phone and all the features. It is just not fitting in very well with my lifestyle. I am not able to have a blue tooth headset on at work all day, but still need to answer calls as I get them. Found myself going back and forth to my bench all day just to check for calls and e-mail. It's a great phone and I don't regret getting it. It is just not for me.

I had the same problem. There are those for whom size matters and for phones, I suppose I'm one of them. The most I can handle in a phone is around the Hermes size.

Yes, that would be a good reason. Which is why I was exploring the bluevoice wristwatch and not getting a regular BT headset. Some are not bothered though, and like the convenient of having to just press a button near their ears and start talking while the hands are busy doing other things.

I work in a patient care setting, as a professional courtesy no headsets. Just one of the rules.
Any last minute takers? It's going up on eBay in about 1 hour. I just did a hard reset and re-format on the micro drive.

You'll probably get a better price on Ebay as most people on these forums will already own an x7501. I got 280GBP for mine (about 547USD). There are still people asking for up to 850USD on Ebay for them which is ridiculous: they never sell for this amount now even fresh from the factory.
How much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?

Girlfriend's Pantech Duo (how can I turn off 3g???)

10/07/08 10:27PM
really all that's important now is that I can disable 3G on her phone, and I just cant figure out how. Is there a simple registry edit or a smartphone comm manager around? I tried a few comm managers but they didnt really disable it, I just want it off so it always uses edge
It was time she got an upgrade, so I had her get the burgundy colored Pantech Duo. So as I've heard there is no Roms for this phone yet, so what should I do to her phone? where would i find some compatible homescreens? perhaps the Vox (wings) homescreens would be compatible? I'm not sure yet what I can do with the phone, Im gonna put HTC Home on it if that works.
o man im pissed to find out it doesnt have wifi!
here I was excited she can finally have internet in her room.
makes her and I even more mad that her sister's BlackJack II has wifi.
damn...no secret wifi chip inside the pantech that we didnt know about?
See if you can get your hands on a MicroSD wifi card... They make them but I don't think they're on the market, not sure... But the Duo supports it. Also, there's something called HomeScreenBuilder (use google to find it), it's free and very customizable for her homescreen in WM6. I just sold my Duo recently, but here are a few other programs to check out...
DuoSTT (Answer calls by sliding phone open, hang up by sliding closed)
SmartToolKit (Better start menu, task manager, cleaner look)
TCPMP and there's a flash plugin for IE to play youtube videos, search the att forums it's posted under pantech by my username
Opera Mobile browser, if you download the trial I can get you a serial # (Just go to "register opera" and PM me your device ID)
hey thanks! i didnt know they had a wireless microSD card.
Now I just need to wait till it's avaible somewhere, I hope the price isnt too bad..
I'll put some of these programs you've mentioned on, as well as HTC Home. Is there a customizer for it like there is for pocket pc? or a way to change which icons appear.
I bought this phone for my sister. I think its crippled a lil without Wifi, but she doesnt care about anything but the cool red color and 2 keyboards... *rolleyes*
But to the point, if you are looking for other software, I would recomment using Conduits Pocket Player if you/she would like some music on it. Also, Newegg is selling 4 gig microSD cards (SanDisk) for 14.99. Worth looking into, wish you luck.
There is a 6.1 windows rom upgrade beta rom out for this phone. I have had this phone for a few weeks and am liking it from my 3125 that died. This was a warrenty replacment for me. Figured I could use it for a year and then when my contract is up look around.

$14.99?? talk about a good deal! now only if they could make that WITH the wifi.
well at one point she too wouldnt have used wifi, but when i went over to her house and connected to the wifi at her house with my Tilt from "ANYWHERE INSIDE THE HOUSE **OMG**" now she really wanted it, i got her hopes up to cause i assumed every windows mobile phone had wifi, should make sense shouldnt it? well i guess not lol. she doesnt have computer in her room and the next best thing is if she could get on msn and look at her myspace from her phone in her room, lol.
As far as a media player, I'll probably just have her use tcpmp, being it's the best for music, although not the prettiest, maybe Coreplayer? but I've tried coreplayer and i wasnt able to add onto my playlist, only load a series of files at a time.
Will the Duo work with a 4gig card? I heard it will not read any higher then 2 gigs.

Am I really that out of the loop? when did HTC stop using wifi in their new devices?

you know what also pisses me off, her call quality is horrible, can barely hear what the person is saying, sounds like she has a blown speaker, but from reviews I've been reading this is really what it sounds like.
and what has pissed me of since the very beginning, was I didn't want her to get this phone originally, I wanted her to get the nokia N75 (she would like it better) but it has been discontinued now.. and there are not any other s60 devices right now.

well, because there is no Wifi, horrible camera, and horrible sound quality, i would not recomend this phone. However it does have a nice Xscale 416mhz processor. I tried some games in Finalburn and they ran very nicely!
for a smartphone I would get a nokia phone, but for a touchscreen phone I would get a windows pocket pc.
In my book Nokia wins the non touchscreen phones, I'd like to see them pull of a s60 device with a touchscreen.

Okay first off your avatar pic reminds me of a very good friend. But every skater looks like that. But secondly, The BlackJack II is made from Samsung. I dont know where you got HTC from Take the duo back and get a new phone. So far it's not that good. As far as I've heard. And I think that HTC stopped making smartphones and the BJ II is a smartphone. Well originally the BJ I had wi-fi (the european version anyway) but at&t decided to cripple it and take out the wi-fi chip. The BJ II was never actually released with a wi-fi chip. I actually suggest you tell her to get a BJ II or go for the Tilt since it's the only phone that at&t offers that has wi-fi (besides the iPhoney and the Crackberry)
Kraize
I dont recommend the tilt to anyone who isnt technically inclined and/or willing to tinker. It takes too much work to get the phone into a sweet spot. It will be a pain in the ass to update 2 - I barely have time to keep up with updating my own, lol.
I completely agree with you...my wife can't stand my tilt but she isn't tech savvy like I am.
I love the Tilt ONLY because of XDA though...if I weren't able to find the sweet spots I have I would have returned it long ago. I am spoiled...never again will I own a phone I can't customize as much as I do now.

Really? I guess I'm just naturally tech savvy. My tilt is actually my second wm phone. I had the BlackJack first. I didn't find xda until maybe 2 months after I got my tilt. I had already customized it to my own knowledge, but this site made it even better. I guess you're right. It's probably best to stick with crackberry and nokia.

She doesnt like the blackjack II, and i dont blame her, I dont like phones that are wide and have the keyboard on the outside.
She likes my tilt but cant spend $300 - $500 lol
I also agree, i wouldnt like my tilt if it weren't for xda. the stock AT&T rom sucks, and it would be too plain!
well nokia requires just as much work, that is the fun of nokia, is you gota install the doom emulator and then customize it.

Not really :S Can't she upgrade? My friend recently bought a tilt. It was $100 instant (making it $199 from $299) and then $100 mail-in-rebate (making it a final $99+tax).

really? i know buying it outright is $550, then with the 2 year contract it's $350, then with the rebate it's $250, but that's as cheap as I saw it..
even then i had to pay $350 for mine cause I guess you had to buy either the internet plan or messaging or something to get the rebate, and my parents didnt wanna do that.
I guess her dad told her she has to stick with this phone, so. yeah, gay, lol.

Guessing you're over 18? Random sorry lol. But how about the LG Vu? or the Moto Q global? The tilt is $149 /w 2 yr contract (after mir) in my zip code. Don't know why'd it be any different in yours. Well the refurb is anyways. The new one is $200. Link. Also check amazon.
EDIT: Wow, you bought your phone late. I bought mine in Feb 08 and it was $350 (/w tax) after rebates. (Although I payed for the phone myself and none of the monthly bills ha) If I didn't take messaging it would have been $450 for me. Some people were especially lucky. There was a time where the tilt was only $74.99 after rebate with a new contract on amazon. That also included messaging/internet. I really think it was worth it though. The rebate, not for you anyways since you would pay min $20 for 6months which would be $20 more than instead of getting the rebate. I had a employee discount which takes off 15% of my monthly bill, so it was a saving of about $25 so I took it. I mean what the heck who cares lol. At least I got messaging too. So my real total was about $425. Which is pretty hefty. Now going back, I could have bought a tilt from ebay or something for that price. :S well that's the problem with tech. It gets cheap too quick. Btw did you check out that slick new white BJII with the pink and the blue background? That totally looks sick. I would get that if it wasn't a BJII and a BJI instead lol

The lament over HD in US...

I realize I'll do nothing but create clutter with this post.... but I am doing it anyway
I've looked at everything out there (in the US)... Diamond, Touch Pro, upcoming Omnia (at Verizon), even thought about Xperia... Nothing comes close to HD, in my mind. But buying it without network discounts and giving up 3G is crazy too.
I am completely bummed out about it. HTC, damn you! Why hasn't someone else stepped up to make phone like this that works in the US. High-res screen, high-res camera, thin, with screen of at least 3.5"? Ya know, so you can actually thumb-type without the hardware keyboard? Even if you have fingers that are bigger than a 7-year-old's? Like a normal person...
All this can make someone go old-school BlackBerry... and they don't have a cure for that...

for you, giving up network discounts and 3G is crazy. for me, those 2 criteria are low on my list. i view it more as a tradeoff/investment to get what i want (not what i need, lol). i used 1 subsidized device in that past 4 years; everything else was/is unsubsidized. my experience suggests that unlocked/unsubsidized devices sale faster and at higher prices. anyway, i resale my phones via ebay and use the proceeds to fund some or all of the cost of my next device. i must admit that i've been fortunate enough to also fund my tech habit via dividends from sporting "investments". we all have our addictions, vices, etc. unfortunately, the phone addiction can be an expensive one.

i agree with you 100%! my suspicions are that contractual agreements between htc and at&t and at&t and "the fruit company" have something to do with the HD not coming to the US. at&t is the only GSM carrier with an extended 3G footprint and bringing the HD to at&t would directly compete against the fruity phone. the fruit company wouldn't like that, lol. now that still doesn't explain why the HD is missing the us 3G bands...this could be due to technical reasons.

with the improved sensitivity of the HD, one-handed or two-handed thumb typing is better than i expected. there's always room for improvement, but it works very well for me.

tried the crackberry drug once and had major withdrawal issues, lol. for me, it's not a viable substitute.
Feeding the addiction, eh? I'd actually live without 3G -- I keep my Kaiser on Edge most of the time anyway, if only it was cheaper. I am just surprised this is the only phone either than the fruity company's youPhone that has a touchscreen >= 3.5" (HTC Universal excluded). Bastardos... the lot of'em.
Answer me this...
I couldn't hold out anymore and I ordered one from the Uk. Now everyday I'm thinking of sekking it for a AT&T Fuze to get 3G back, but this is what I don't get. I had a Polaris, which as far as I know never was released on a carrier here; yet it still ran US 3G. WHY DON"T THEY DO THAT WITH THIS THING!!?

so, if you're selling to get 3G, you must be using 3G extensively everyday? true? if yes, and i was in your shoes, i would have passed on the HD. regarding the 3G bands, well, marketing decisions by someone led them to exclude the 3G bands on the HD. the market has changed (for whatever reaason) since the Polaris was relased. the first evidence of that was the release of the Diamond without 3G. we're just small pawns in the game...
3G remorse
Yes, I lived in Orlando and now NY where both had great 3G almost all times. I am constantly checking the internet on pricing items and looking at emails. I hate to admit this too, but the Iphone 3G was pretty functional for me. I just hate Mac everything so i got rid of it. I just love the screen on the HD though! I think I'm buying a Polaris tomorrow.
Man, if i could get this phone, i could care less about 3G lol. I am with sprint, but am willing to ORDER THIS PHONE FROM ACROSS THE POND, have it shipped over here and getting an At&t plan or something and using the sim card in this phone.....just to have this phone. Knowing me......i will probably buy this phone, a good friend of mine ordered it and had it shipped to him the other day. I am going to visit him for the holidays and will finally FINALLY get some hands on with this bad A** phone.

I went through the exact thoughts after getting my omnia. I lacked the willpower to hold off for the HD. After having having the omnia two weeks I broke the piggy(again) to get the HD.
I'm with US t-mo, limiting my 3G options to the G1, which does does not impress. I'm satisfied with 2G and WiFi.
Ultimately, I'm extremely happy with the beautiful screen and build quality.
By the way, anyone want to buy a slightly used omnia....CHEAP!

It's a GSM phone, so if it's not locked it will work on any GSM network -- that's AT&T and T-mo in the US.
Ok, so lets say that you can get this phone unlocked here in the U.S. And sign up with T-mobile with one of their plans, could you just switch out the sim card from the phone you get into this phone? Im really interested in getting this phone and am willing to open up a contract with either T-MOBILE or At&t. Im not a big talker but am a big texter. I was looking into the basic myfaves plan but was wondering if you could use the pay-as-you-go plans with this phone also. Any one have any suggestions?

Im really interested in getting this phone and am willing to open up a contract with either T-MOBILE or At&t. Im not a big talker but am a big texter. I was looking into the basic myfaves plan but was wondering if you could use the pay-as-you-go plans with this phone also. Any one have any suggestions?

it's already unlocked if you purchase from someone like Clove, Expansys. and yes, all you have to do is pop in your SIM card and you're good to go. i got mine from Clove Technologies and it's working great on at&t. it will even configure your internet settings...
you read my mind cortez I was going to order it from them too. im thinking about opening a plan with t-mobile since they have cheaper plans an I think I can narrow down to 5 people to put on my faves. any suggestions man ever since I got my hands on this phone the other day which it was my friends...all I can do is think about how to get it to work in the u.s.

I've been using unlocked ppc's with tmob for about 2years...hard to beat the price plans, Edge works great, and Gms works anywhere in the world!

Anyone that came from an iPhone 4, thoughts?

So, I have an iPhone 4 (i wish i still had my nexus one) and i am looking to rid myself of it and get the dell streak. upgrading this to 2.2 would be no problem for me, and all the specs seem up to par with everything else on the market.
here is the point of my question... I want to know if any of you who gave up your iphone (iphone 4 particularly) for the streak, WAS IT WORTH IT.
thanks
The simple answer is yes. The long winded answer is...
I've always been an iphone user up until the streaks release when I finally jumped ship to android. I've fallen in love with the way android works and the large screen of the dell. The customization options and the open feel of the apps on the market place are great features.
I tried out the iphone 4 for a couple of weeks but found it impossible to go back to the small screen and restricted software that is apple, not to mention the reception issues I was having.
Although I love the streak it's not all blue skys and kittens in comparison. The major things you'll notice in comparison to your iphone is the testing is a little harder to get used to and the market place doesn't have as many high end apps. The games available are very limited. However its easy to get past this considering how good everything else is and you cb always use some of the emulators instead and get some decent games.
All in all I would tell anyone on an iphone or considering it to look at android instead and if you want the larger screen then the streak is for you!

I had the iPhone 4 for a total of 3 days before i realised it was the same tired iPhone I replaced... Sure they "added" some things, but the feel of iOs is simply boring compared to Droid.
Now I haven't received my Streak yet, just ordered it yesterday, but I am using the Samsung Captivate at the moment and it is 1000 times better in my opinion than apple could ever be. i find it hard to describe, but its like android is the offspring of iOs and winMo... So the "flash" of apple and the "tweakability" of windows... So that's my thoughts, can't wait for my Streak!! Hope it helps!!!
Yeah man I feel you. Because i had a nexus one from February till the end of June and I miss it. :/ I think I may go with the Dell tomorrow. I'm going to check it out at my local AT&T. Thank you a lot for input.. I am just so fed up with Apple. And it hasn't even been that long. anything else about the streak I should know or look out for?
Thanks again.

According to Lionel Menchaca @ Dell, they don't have plans to release it in ATT stores at launch.

Good question. I've got an iPhone 4 myself and can't stand it, thinking of making the switch as well.
What sort of adapter did you guys use for the microsim?
Alright well. I think I'm gonna do it. I just have to go off of pure hope that I'd like it. I'm gonna try to call an AT&T store to see if o could at least look at it if they have one. But you guys would say go for it, yeah?

iPhone 4 microSIM to fullsize SIM
I purchased a microSIM adaptor on ebay...cost me $7 for the item and shipping.
Tested it by taking my microSIM card from my iPhone4, placing it into the microSIM adaptor and inserting that combo in my old Nexus One and it worked no problem.

nice... i just went to an at&t store and they gave me a full size one for free.
So, i sold my iPhone 4 for $550. woo! i ordered my Streak, and i'll be talking to you guys here more.
i got tired of the iphone 3g and dodged the iphone4 bullet. i didnt wait for its release i went for the streak on june 4th instead. i did my homework before making that decision but most of all they never had any real features worth waiting for.
I love using OSX but come on if they bothered the ipad and iphone could have had all that goodness rather than cripped os's. its akin to taking a baseball bat to a racehorse!

Just ordered my streak today! Have an iPhone 4 but really miss Android and my N1. I'm still pretty pissed at Dell for the whole fiasco plus I paid $550 for a locked to ATT unit. I have ATT but still, weak sauce. Oh yeah, and 1.6 wow thanks.
If you have an old sim trace around the micro sim then cut. I used a small piece of tape and it works great. Not the ellegant option but it's effective...

i don't think we'll regret our purchases man. im happy about it.
I feel the same way, I have been watching the Streak like a hawk. I have some big hands and I think it will be perfect for what I want. I got overnight shipping, sucks to order on a Friday. I am glad I waited though, I was so close to buying a beta from eBay.

ive only been watching it for a couple days now but i knew i needed a really good replacement. and it seems i have found it.
I still have my iphone4 and the streak. I miss the games (angry birds.) There's no denying they have more apps in general, but I got board of it. Think about 3G, 3GS, and 4 are all basically the same phone.

AT&T will swap out your micro sim back to a standard sim for free, being that the only phone in their linup that uses it is the iPhone... I had to go from standard to micro and back again and they didn't argue at all.. The rep told me that it is a common trouble shoot to swap sim card so they had no problem doing it for free.
Also, Dell has chosen to sell the Streak purely online, from the Dell site only. According to Dell, they wanted to make sure that all Streak customers were handled the same way to avoid problems, being that it was the frist phone they released.... ( Iwas told this by a Dell rep, so I am not 100% sure on the validity.)

sounds pretty logical. reps at stores can really make the process suck. especially when they stutter and they aren't positive on the features and stuff. eh.. i dislike buying phones from at&t. im glad dell sort of has a 'nexus one style' way of selling its product.

My vibrant for sale (few days old)

OK, So T-Mobile pissed me off yesterday and I cancelled my contract and went to a different carrier, so now I have the Vibrant and have no use for it.
It is NOT hardware locked, it is rooted, has GPS fix and works perfect (locks to at least 7 sats in less than 30 seconds) it also has the accurate battery percentage with number indicator and colors (blue, green, yellow, red as it gets lower) and has some paid apps installed like ROM Manager premium, Root explorer, Sling Player (only usefull if you have slingbox, $30 value) Beautifull Widgets, LogmeIN (access your PC from anywhere, $30 value) Wireless tether working 100%, youtube fix to play HD by default and some other I can't remember right now.
the phone is about 5 days old (replacement) and I have the box with all the accessories that came with it. The accessories are NEW, I never use the headphones and manuals, extra cover, etc. the phone has had a invisible shield since day one, so there are NO SCRATCHES !!
$420 TAKES IT, PayPal ONLY for security of both and ships only INSIDE US via USPS Priority Mail with tracking number. I have it listed on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180571218904&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
and I have 100% feedback. for faster response, email me to
[email protected]
edit: I FORGOT TO MENTION... IT IS UNLOCKED SO IT WORKS WITH ANY SIM CARD IN THE WORLD
OP I hope you do realize, those paid programs are tied to your Gmail account? This means, when someone else bought this phone from you, unless they are using YOUR gmail account, those paid programs will not be available for them.

Yeah, I had read that too, but when I put the sim card from ATT it was only EDGE, the 3G works only in some areas, so I just got the iPhone (I hate it )
Why not get the captivate?
