[Q] Upgrading LG GT540 - 1.6 > 2.1 - GT540 Optimus General

I've bought 2 x LG GT540 phones for my son & daughter..
Both are from the Carphone Warehouse and both are Android 1.6
I've downloaded the LG support tool & USB Drivers and have tried then on Win XP & Win 7.
Windows detects the phones and we can mount the SD Cards, but the LG Support Tool doesn't see either phone.
So how do I upgrade them ?
I have 2 kids pestering me to upgrade them then they can install their apps etc..
Merry Christmas
Thanks..

Use the Kdz updater!

eclair
as i know update is stopped by lg at the moment and promised to launch it again by the end of month but i dont believe them

try lg pc studio IV,should work

I used the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864769 and it worked well first time.

Doesn't that flash a non standard LG ROM ? I don't want to void the warranty.
Some people have suggested LG Support Tool, Others Kdz.. do they both do the same thing and can they both flash the official rom ??
Thanks

I have got the same problem. I can send apps or other files to sd card and I can use phone as usb. But when I use lg support tool or lg pc suite IV it doesnt connect my phone with that program. I dont want to root my phone, because it is new and I need guarantee.

Install all supplied driver in the suite, make sure usb mass connection only in uncheck, restart ur device
When i was at 1.6 it's indeed rather hard to connect to pc suite, 2.1 fix this prob.
My suggestion is u dl the cpw official rom manully (if there's any, i think i read about it at modaco) then flash it using kdz..no one will know the diff
Sent from my GT540 using Tapatalk

I dont know where is problem, when I start phone update it says my phone is not connected to pc, but it is. I have installed all drivers, phone ist not "mass storage only". My computer finds the phone, but that LG program not.

Ok I did it. You need all drivers installed, must be in login as administrator in windows. Then only run lg support tool and in the phone turn off mass storage only. Then connect phone with computer, it finds the phone automatically. Update procedure will start. But it is possible your download will not start for first time, then simply restart phone and connect and run lg support tool again. Probably you have too install three drivers: LGUnitedMobileDriver, LGSmartPhone_Modemlink, LGWindowsMobile_USBDriver. I have done this and my phone is updating.
You can also try it with LG pc suite IV, but the procedure is same. Im sorry for my english I hope it helps

Hi
I've never got around to this.. but I should be doing it this weekend..
Can anyone point me to the exact files I need.
The phones are currently on Car Phone Warehouse 1.6
I'd like to get them to 2.1 or 2.2 if they will run well at that..
Thanks

A simple search on google :

Root
You can always un-root your phone. A simple flash of a Stock ROM should return your phone to the way it was when you first bought it.

Installing Froyo on Rogers Captivate

I created this thread to help people who are having issues getting their Rogers Captivate running Froyo.
I just recently got a Samsung Captivate (locked to Rogers).
The guy i bought it from had rooted it and installed the AT&T 2.2 Froyo ROM but he didn't unlock the phone
I tried to unlock it while running Froyo, but had no luck.
In the end I rolled the ROM back to the stock 2.1 Eclaire ROM; from there I could unlock the phone and then upgrade to the leaked 2.2 Froyo ROM and remove all of the AT&T bloatware
I hope this guide can help others unlock the true potential of their phone too
Disclaimer
I am only giving this information as a guideline.
I take no responsibility if you brick your phone and can't recover it.
I followed the below steps and got my phone working really well, but I don't know enough about this to give a guarantee.
Resources
Helpful Guide
File Patching Site
Samsung Windows Drivers
Captivate Windows Drivers (32-bit)
Captivate Windows Drivers (64-bit)
Stock AT&T 2.1 Eclair ROM
Leaked AT&T 2.2 Froyo ROM
Rooting Tool (works with 2.1 Eclair ROM)
Rooting Tool (works with 2.2 Froyo ROM)
Phone Unlocker
Note:
If you've already installed Froyo, your nv_data.bin file is likely gone (it gets deleted by the updater). This sucks because this file has your unlock code in it.
Determine if it's Locked
To determine if you phone is locked, go to your dialer (on your phone) and enter *#7465625#
If Network Lock is [ON] then your phone is locked.
In this case, you should perform all of the below steps (at your own risk). If Network Lock is [OFF] then your phone is NOT locked .
In this case you can either walk away happy or just do steps 6-9 listed below (at your own risk).I don't know what the other locks refer to.
Unlocking your Phone
flash back to a 2.1 Eclair ROM
I chose to use the Stock AT&T 2.1 Eclair ROM because I heard that the Rogers 2.1 Eclair ROM doesn't have the nv_data.bin file.
download and extract the Stock AT&T 2.1 Eclair ROM
download and install the Samsung Windows Drivers
download and extract the Captivate Windows Drivers (*-bit) (use the 32 or 64 bit depending on your version of Windows)
run the Stock AT&T 2.1 Eclair ROM program (it's a Windows program)
put your phone into Debug Mode*
plug your USB cable into your PC.
connect your phone to the PC in Download Mode**.
if Windows says that if failed to install the drivers for your phone, update the drivers by telling Windows to look inside the directory where you extracted the Captivate Windows Drivers (*-bit).
Once your phone is installed properly, the Stock AT&T 2.1 Eclair ROM program should have detected it. Once detected, press the Start button and just wait. (this process can take a little while, your phone will also load slowly the 1st time)
when it's done, your phone will be booted back into Android and the Stock AT&T 2.1 Eclair ROM program should say that it was successful.
root it
download and extract the Rooting Tool (works with 2.1 Eclair ROM)
put your phone into Debug Mode*
plug your USB cable into your PC.
connect your phone to the PC in Download Mode**.
run the Rooting Tool (works with 2.1 Eclair ROM) program and click the One-Click Root button.
when it's done, your phone will be rooted and you'll be able to grant superuser access.
extract and patch the nv_data.bin file
go to the File Patching Site and follow the instructions.
flash to the 2.2 Froyo ROM
download and extract the Leaked AT&T 2.2 Froyo ROM
run the Leaked AT&T 2.2 Froyo ROM program (it's a Windows program)
put your phone into Debug Mode*
plug your USB cable into your PC.
connect your phone to the PC in Download Mode**.
Once your phone is installed properly, the Leaked AT&T 2.2 Froyo ROM program should have detected it. Once detected, press the Start button and just wait. (this process can take a little while, your phone will also load slowly the 1st time)
when it's done, your phone will be booted back into Android and the Leaked AT&T 2.2 Froyo ROM program should say that it was successful.
root the phone again
download and extract the Rooting Tool (works with 2.2 Froyo ROM)
put your phone into Debug Mode*
plug your USB cable into your PC.
connect your phone to the PC in Download Mode**.
run the Rooting Tool (works with 2.2 Froyo ROM) program SuperOneClick.exe and click the Root button.
when it's done, your phone will be rooted and you'll be able to grant superuser access.
enable side-loading of apps
to do this, you must have done the previous step root the phone again
download and extract the Rooting Tool (works with 2.2 Froyo ROM)
put your phone into Debug Mode*
plug your USB cable into your PC.
connect your phone to the PC in Download Mode**.
run the Rooting Tool (works with 2.2 Froyo ROM) program SuperOneClick.exe and click the Allow Non Market Apps (requires root) button.
when it's done, your phone will be able to accept side-loaded apps to be installed on it.
get your phone working properly with Rogers
The phone will come back up with voice services working, but no MMS or data. In order to make data and MMS work, you need to set the Access Point Name (APN) settings in the phone’s config. APN Settings can be found under Settings > Wireless > Mobile Networks >Access Points. Set the following:
Name: Rogers
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC:http ://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
Everything else blank.
You should now have a working data connection!
remove all AT&T bloatware
just follow the instructions at the bottom of the Helpful Guide.
install your favorite apps via the Android Market
* Debug Mode is when you put your phone in a mode which enables shell (scripting-level) access to the Android operating system. This is needed to perform many tasks when it comes to rooting, unlocking, side-loading apps, etc...
In your phones main menu, go to Applications ==> Development ==> USB Debugging
** Download Mode basically tells the phone to allow an external program to update it's ROM (operating system).
Hold-down both volume buttons on your phone and then plug the USB cable into your phone.

Thanks for the info, I'm still really new to this; i'll probably give your recomendation a try soon
I just want to be sure that everything works fine... My friend who knows a lot more about this is currently on vacation, i'll see which rom he installed as his captivate is running really well too.
Nice guide, with this I got Froyo running on my phone. However, when I went to the market to download apps I bought back when I had stock firmware, they weren't there anymore. I was just wondering if you had the same problem and a possible solution.
I've been going through many pages of different forums and none of the methods are working. Many of the guides required me to download apps from the market to assist me in uploading a new build.prop file to /system/ but I cant see any of them since my market is screwed up.
Is your android market working fine ?
I managed to get a new build.prop uploaded with different fingerprint codes:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.1-update1/ESE81/29593:user/release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys
both didn't work.
I then reflashed using the 2.2 froyo that you have linked at the top, and now my market app is the same as before. When I first flashed it I could see all the apps but I am having the same issues as before. I was about to try a rom called Cognition but seeing as how reflashing didn't work I am running out of ways of fixing this :S
This is the stock APN from my Rogers Captivate
FROYO lag fix help
Hey guys.
Kind of a noob here. I was wondering if someone can help me fix the lag problem i have with my captivate running on froyo 2.2 that i upgraded through Keis. I had the 2.1 lag fixed before i upgraded to froyo and it was amazingly fast! i want the same speed now if someone can give me a link or explain to me the easiest way to go about this, that would be awesome! thank you!!

Make sure you've got the Samsung USB Drivers installed
Make sure you check allow usb dev in settings
open up super one click
connect your phone and you should be good to go...you probably don't have the mobile drivers isntalled
Heres the 64 bit drivers
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
My PC is windows 7 64bit and kies works fine + windows 7 is brilliant for drivers. Try flashing using Odin with stock 2.2 can be found easily with detailed instructions, just Google it. Then try rooting from there. Wouldn't worry about warranty, your making your phone work better. Have fun.

try reinstalling kies then running the link I sent you, it should work fine. I'm running 64bit windows and everythings works great for me.
some instructions for rooting
if it is possible to update ur phone with kies try to find your phone version and flash the pda with odin
link:CF-root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
after that put the update.zip file on ur internal sd dont put it on external then im sure after u flashed it with that cf-root u can use do the 3 button trick just choose install update.zip on the menu apply it twice then u will have Clockwork mod now u can install any custom rom that u want
update.zip on attachment

Here's the question I have. If I completely uninstall everything, drivers, keis, etc. and then re-install Keis - I get thet MTP failed drivers error with windows.
So then I was told to install the Windows Samsung x64 bit drivers (which I do) -- but this doesn't work either.
Then I try to "reinstall drivers" from Keis - but this does nothing either.
Any and all combinations of the above has been tested and failed -- it just sits there "trying to connect" to device - but nothing ever happens, ever.
Keis is by far the stupidest program I've ever come across - how can it possibly not work right out of the box ? I have seem hundreds of people in my case - there is no excuse for such ****ty software.
Heres the thing - I want to flash, but I want to back up all my apps and stuff first, which I can't do without ROOT
Don't get me wrong, I'm going to flash away, but not until I back up all my apps - Titanium requires ROOT which is why I am here... i need to figure out a way to root so I can back up my stuff (i have like 160 apps I don't want to re-download)
Any ideas on how to back up apps WITHOUT needing to root ?

If you flash clockwork mod recovery or a kernel that incorporates it then you can backup and restore your apps in /data from there
Hope this helps!

Ok well forget using keis and just try flashing with Odin. Make sure keis isn't open when you do this though. You will have to put the phone in to download mode to flash it with Odin. Or if you don't want to mess about with Odin make sure USB debugging is off and try using the other USB setting like mass storage then it wont go through keis when you connect it. Hope this helps

[Q] no android market/no file manager

Guys here is my dilemma:
my girlfriend owns a gt540 it was locked by her carrier provider and she decided to have it unlocked with her friend(who i dont think knows anything about android stuff) now her phone does not have a " Android Market" anymore and to make matter worst it does not have a "File Manager" as well. I really want to help her please she is still on 1.6 dough. i have already downloaded android market.apk but since doesnt have file manager i cant install it. what can i do?
I own a samsung galaxy s and i know how to fash my toy we have CWM where i can flash my zip file where can i get a tutorial in installing cwm?
TIA
i tried download mode does not work only showing emergency mode and when i inserted usb chord doesnt even show it was installed all it is saying is driver installing
firmware: 1.6
kernel: [email protected]#1
Software version: gt540-v10c
please i need help
i have used this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042639but when updating it says phone not found whta have i done wrong?please any one help me
go to settings, applications, development, and find and enable usb debugging. you'll need to find yourself the adb.exe executable from the android sdk. google it. once you have it, put the filemanager.apk, or whatever you have in its folder, connect the phone(it should say usb debugging connected), and run the adb executable w/ parameters as follows "adb install filemanagerml.apk", substituting the last bit for whatever program you have. that's it off the top of my mind, I'm going to bed. good luck.

[Q] is there a offical lollipop for d802

if so how can i update ? is there a ota update ?
please help,
thank you
Hi,
Yes there is an official Lollipop for the D802.
However, before I tell you how to get it, I gotta warn you: It could be working good, or it could be driving you crazy because it's possibly filled with bugs.
Also, the update COULD mess up your phone, meaning you'll have to reflash it using the TOT method. This is however something to worry about if it goes wrong.
Firstly, you need a Windows PC for this, if you've got a Mac with only OS X it will not work!
1. Now, to update I'd recommend you first back-up ALL of your files on the internal storage to your pc (pictures, music, video, etc, WhatsApp files, etc.)
2. If you've got that, go ahead and download & install the LG PC Suite.
3. Run it and connect your phone, select the PC Suite mode. Now it could be that it has to install some drivers so just be patient, shouldn't be taking that long in most cases.
4. If it's all connected, it should remind you that there's an update, the PC Suite should navigate you through the update. If it asks you to make a back-up (this isn't the same back-up as you made before), do it, there's nothing worse than losing everything!
5. Now if the back-up has been made you can go ahead and let it update.
6. Ur done! You should probably check if your files are still on the internal storage, if not, you should just copy them back to it.
Keep me updated if something goes wrong and I'll help you out.
Good luck!
For my experience, I have a D802 too
I was on CM12.1 so I flashed to stock with the method found here (LG flashtool) so I was on 4.2.2
After that with the LG pc suite I updated a first time to 4.4.2
and directly after still with Lg pc suite I update to 5.0.2
No error for the moment, it's very stable and bug-less.

Like I said, it's best if you do that.
Even if you are a 100% sure that it won't delete anything, you never know what might go wrong in the process!

OnePlus 2 not getting detected!

Recently I recovered my device from HardBrick state using MSM8994DownloadTool
After this, my phone is not getting detected by PC. Neither in ADB nor in fastboot. What should I do?
I tried changing ROM but still nothing is happening. Its still not getting detected.!
Can you charge the phone? Also tried a different PC and as well to reinstall the drivers. After recovering OP2 via the tool it should have impacting the OP2 it self, so far this looks like as issue with USB port or drivers within your PC. Also try to recovery it once more, do a rollback via the tool, it may happen that something went wrong at the time you used the tool

Also try to recovery it once more, do a rollback via the tool, it may happen that something went wrong at the time you used the tool

Try to do the recovery once again if you already didnt do so. I also suggest to try a different PC to try to connect

I tried different PC's as well. None of them are detecting it. Moreover, I need my phone to get detected to do the recovery. Until and unless it isnt gonna get detected, I am helpless.

I think you could try re-install official driver. Example Guide: http://www.technobuzz.net/oneplus-two-usb-drivers/
Or use AirDroid to wirelessly transfer your file to your phone. And Update it. (BEAWARE: But if you internal storage is wipe, then you will need a Mac or someone else PC to help you. For example, Best Buy or Apple Store.)
Also try to use another cable, it could happen that the cable itself is faulty. Also connect the phone to the PC while is unlocked. Next think allow within the phone MTP.
Go to settings -> storage -> the three dots right upper corner -> activate (MTP)
It worked. Thanks all of you. I Reflashed the OS and it started working. I guess problem was with the OS.

Great that it worked for all of yoy, remember if stuck on boot,99% phone is bricked. If something doesnt work after somekind of FW upgrade, probably corrupted and do a clean refresh.
Cheers,
