HTC directly host and manage updates for Vodafone !! - Legend General

This is interesting! You must be knowing by now that Vodafone moved ahead with the Legend froyo update when htc promised last week that they will be releasing the update for unbranded legends first and then the carriers would go ahead with it.
Well, guess what ? htc directly manages and hosts update for Vodafone !
now what does that make of us unbranded people ?
My Question: " Vodafone legend froyo update is hosted on htc's own servers !
what does that mean htc ? when you say they were just quick on releasing it when its on your servers the update files are stored ? ... "

HTC: "It's true, we directly host and manage updates for some carriers. Vodafone was able to move the quickest ... "

(He believes the most number of Legend sales globally are through Vodafone)
That doesnt make any sense! how can vodafone be responsible for moving quick when htc themselves manage and host updates for them ???
I've been very patient all through in waiting for the update while many people been going really mad..
BUT THISS REALLLY PISSSED ME OFFFFF !!!!!
proof (from htc facebook):

PS: I noticed the irony only after posting a response to their comment.
Whole stuff in short : HTC makes their ROM -> Vodafone asks HTC to customize the ROM for them -> HTC does all the work for Vodafone -> and they host the ROM on HTC's own server -> The update is released by HTC for vodafone (not BY vodafone)
There is no sending to vodafone for customization in the process

Look at the date within the ROM, HTC Delivered the rom to Vodafone for customisation a whole month ago.
All the while they have been sat on the finished ROM scratching their asses.

Offcourse they had finished rom months ago. They released a device identical to Legend (not sure which model is it) but plastic casing few weeks ago with Froyo. That means Froyo for Legend's architecture was ready weeks before release date (they had tu manufacture the cellphones and distribute it).

I think you have to read between the lines - "believes the most number of legend sales are through Vodaphone".
There has to be a reason why vodaphone put the updates on hold for one month.
The only thing that came to mind is - HTC Desire HD and Z.
Think about it - if consumers had in their hands a Froyo 2.2 device in the market that's made of unibody aluminum, what is the impetus for them to pick up a desire?
Close to zero. 5MP camera, can friendstream, can do internet. What else can a desire HD or Z offer the typical consumer that the legend cannot?
Most consumers (and i'm not talking fanboys or android lovers or developers here) have little reason to pick the desire - unless if it has an impact on their image.
So the key? offer ordinary consumers the desire HD and Z - push this to the market, and silently update the legend after sales of the new desires have been done.
Mind you - the original desire wasn't a metal phone.
It's just marketing and effort to make the most money out of consumers.
Does HTC care enough to create a good user experience outside of the htc sense interface? That is the question.

I totally agree with the last two opinions! Nothing can excuse HTC for releasing Froyo for Legend 3-4 months after Desire was updated to 2.2. I could understand such a delay if they have implemented the new Sense UI and the HTCSense.com functionalities, but... they released just Froyo with a bit polished Sense. I also think that they could release Froyo 1-2 months ago... It's all about the sales of the new models. It's really a shame.

I there is a misunderstanding ! from what i understand.. there is no 'sending of ROM to vodafone FOR customization' involved in this !
HTC makes the rom, vodafone tells HTC to customize their ROM, and HTC does the job and host the ROM for vodafone on HTC's own servers !
Now what does that make ? htc made the ROM for vodafone and released it themselves before they released their unbranded ROM against their promise ! thats the whole point.
So htc claiming vodafone just released it too quick is a total lie or intentionally misleading, coz its htc who released it for them, not vodafone themselves.

Yes, but they have to have a schedule for it.
Vodaphone got it first because (it could be a written agreement not shown to you)
they have the biggest distribution globally.
This means they have more legends than all the unbranded legends combined.
So they get it first.
Yes, HTC 'promised' - but they couldn't deliver.
It's usually the money that does the talking.

I agree with randy_khoo, but still as long HTC release official froyo updates (no matter asia/europe/us, branded/unbranded), we can always customize and re-cook the rom out of it

Official Hero Sense UI update on early October

Info from today's HTC Hero TW launch party.
BTW, the new HTC sync support Mobile Network sharing now.
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=631&news_id=222
wow any source for the sense UI?
for 32A or 32B?
if you know chinese, read the final part of press here.
http://www.htc.com/tw/press.aspx?id=108538&lang=1028
I think it is for HTC branded Magic only
hehe i understand chinese..
from singapore btw..
sounds like its for 32A boards then.. wonderful
btw for PRC is it 32A boards too?
PRC, dont know...
I am from Hong Kong, the Magic here is 32A. WoW
thanks for news and translation
here is the googlization:
"
From August 29 onwards, will also hold large-scale outdoor activities, so that more consumers have the opportunity to experience the HTC Hero. In addition, until early October ended October 31, where to buy HTC Magic of consumers will be able to HTC official website to download the latest software free of charge (to upgrade the market value of about NT services 1,500 million), HTC to allow more users to experience the HTC "to people-oriented "design concept, specially-made mobile phones are the perfect you."
This roughly translates to, if you buy an HTC magic, you will get the HTC SENSE UI as a free upgrade when we release it for the magic. Its a way of encouraging further htc magic sales
of left over stocks considering the hero has not gone on sale in HK yet. I bought my htc magic for 4000 HKD last week. its an 32A model, very happpy with it. Considering the HERO will retail for 4400 or less it will KILL the sale of the HTC MAGIC STONE DEAD. Im running a hero rom on my magic, its wonderful. happy camper.
Looks like Magic users will be able to get Sense UI officially in October.
I hope this really does come true because i cant live without multi touch. Coming from the iphone and using the htc hero rom for the past 2 months. I cannot go back to normal android 1.5
So let me get this straight ........ HTC Magic users will receive the hero sense UI as an update???
Do you think this May become available in the UK? If so , Would this update be released to people "with Google" Phones?

People with HTC branded Magics (32A) get Sense UI officially, people with Google branded Magics (32B) don't.
Though I'm sure that some people will make a 32B build to (unofficially, of course).
Thanks for that egonny
Am i the only person that feels completely ripped off for having a 32B UK vodafone (with google) Magic? Cut down, crippled and now this!
No fair!!!!!!!
Wow, I wonder if it will be tweaked at all for us. I can imagine Rogers rom wtih senseui, uber fast
I just hope they include some of the stock modified apps like the SMS app, mail app and the calender.

Oh well! I just hope they fix some of the bugs that they left in Magic, as it was a paid beta phone...
T9 dictionary is left out in the cold for us Scandinavians... PITA...
The Sense UI will most likely be avalible to other than 32A, just a little more unofficial...
Looking forward to getting SenseUI on Magic. From what I understand 32A and Hero hardware specs are very similar, so we can expect a similar level of performance. I'm guessing they will have to tweak the drivers for the headphone jack and the 5MP camera, but aside from that, perhaps it is a straightforward upgrade

If you remember the phone came out before froyo was announced. You can't accuse them of not designing the phone for something that didn't exist at the time.
Having said that, it isn't an excuse for not supporting froyo. Everyone knows it can handle it. Heck, there are custom Roms lol

That ins't an excuse in my opinion, the new xperia mini is almost like our x10 and it will have froyo.
As i said in another thread, i'm wondering now what are those "great news" unknown13x was talking about...because i can't seem to find anything great apart from froyo or gingerbread... (knowing we will got MT and DLNA in the next update)

Hi all First – As a clarification regarding the current Xperia products –
We are planning another upgrade to bring new features (such as for example multi-touch for Xperia X10) to the current family of Xperia™ smartphones in Q1 2011.
However, at this stage those plans do not include updating the underlying Android version
This decision is based on that we believe that with the current hardware platform an overhaul of the underlying core OS wouldn’t drastically improve the user experience
We believe that the current Xperia range on Android 2.1 coupled with our proprietary upgrades and unique hardware delivers a user experience that is on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of Android 2.2
Our priority right now is to keep enhancing the user experience of the existing products through coming updates and to deliver a fantastic range of smartphones in 2011 that are all on the latest possible version of Android – that is a target we are determined to hit! version of Android – that is a target we are determined to hit

Good new for wildfire users

Today , I saw on a newspaper this breaking new: Google is going to release an rom called: Ice Cream Sandwich.(This is not a hoax or a joke , It's true 100%)
According to this,Ice Cream Sandwich will work for ALL android phones. The point is that it will have all the features of Android Honeycomb. (They will release in September 2011)
I am not holding my breath on generalized articles till more specifics are available. Apparently, it contains Honeycomb's holographic UI, and, if it does indeed contain eye candy like that, there's a very slim chance it will work like its completely meant to on a Non GPU and ARMv6 phone like the Wildfire.
Not saying that ICS will / may never be seen on the Wildfire. It probably will come, because, it will be open source, unlike Honeycomb. (PS - This applies only if Wildfire devs remain till then. The way devs are abandoning the Wildfire and upgrading to other devices is a bit scary for the already short future of the Wildfire)
Lastly, this is good news for Wildfire owners who own rootable phones. Nothing for those with newer S-ON HBoots.
Also, this doesnt belong here. This post cannot be 'Dev Related' in anyway I see it.
They didn't tell that it will work on ALL devices. They wrote on MOST of today's devices, which are probably only the usual high-end-well-known devices. I guess low-end devices like Wildfire will not manage to run it....

I don`t have my crystal ball with me, so I`ll go with low to no chances. Maybe a laggy port at most.
Like it was stated before, there are some hardware requirements for the holographic interface that requires a GPU, which the Wildfire doesn't have. However I think Icecream will run like on most other phones which are supported on xda (hence they usually have a GPU on board)
It's fine for me. I'm gonna have my Xoom soon and see all the fancy stuff, and by the time Icecream is available I could slowly think about replacing my Wildfire...

guys, forget about this hype.... it's just a misinterpretation and it seems everyone is believing it....
Froyo, Gingerbread were also possible to run on any device.... are they available on every phone? NO!
Is Gingerbread officially available for Wildfire? NO!
Will it be officially available for Wildfire soon? NO!
So how come you expect Icecream to be released for Wildfire in any way??? Like written before there will be a custom ROM at best, but due to the missing GPU it will probably suck!
[And please keep in mind: like it was written in another recent thread recently you can't just activate the missing hardware by adding a software driver]
It will probably suck.... yeah yeah.... that's what you guys said when Gingerbread was out. And guess what? The devs proved you wrong. It may have a kind of fallback mode for slow devices.
You're right pal!
Even now I'm still suck with Stock ROM.
All I expect now just able to root it again or looking for another higher spec.

@mtnhan1996 . Seems like u r thinking ice-cream will be officially ported to wildfire (skipping the official gingerbread update). ---------- NO, it will never happen.
And official updates do not just depend on the google's statements. They depend on the device brand to a large extent. That is why GOOGLE branded devices will be updated much earlier and brands like SE will have late/no updates.
And one more thing to recollect is we didn't even had a non-buggy gingerbread sense custom rom yet. And we cant expect htc to give an os update to wildfire without newer htc sense. So, no way with the official update.

European availability

I asked my local Samsung distributor on Facebook about availability and got a strange answer yesterday. They said it has been delayed because of Android software problems and should be here by end of July.
This sounds just like the rumour that i read about a week ago. I don't know what to think now. Does anyone have any information about this?
Only what you know - I have heard August as they ready 3.1 to ship with the device.
I picked up up a limited edition 10.1 on ebay for a reasonable price, and just got the upgrade to 3.1 so all's well on them here in the UK.
Perhaps see if you can get one from there if you can't wait...
I want a 3G tablet, so the LE is not a option, i already have a WIFI only Xoom for home use. Only thing that's holding me back from buying a Xoom 3G is the fact that the European Xoom's are not Google experience devices and don't get updates from Google.
So my only option for now is 10.1V, but I wonder if the 10.1V will get updates at all?
I don't understand how there can be a software problem. My Xoom runs on 3.1 for over a month now, also the GT10.1LE got the update and the GT10.1 was already released with 3.1 in US. And if i remember correctly then this rumor about software problems with Android 3.1 got already a response from Google and they said there is no such problems. So i just don't get it, how can Samsung make so much confusion...

Found this link on Samsung Poland Facebook page Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Poland at the end of June (Google translate)
In Poland there is now Samsung Mobile L!VE (http://www.samsungmobilelive.pl/o-sml.html).
I have already visited one stand and today I plan to see one more.
1. I have been told to expect it in the shops by the end of current month.
2. All specs on the stands list GT 10.1 with dual core 1,2 Ghz CPU (will try to take some photos 2day).
With recent pull back from 1,2 Ghz by Vodafone to 1,0 Ghz I really do not know what to think... especially that these stands are made by Samsung not some 3rd party company like Vodafone or independent distributor.

If you can, please ask if they have heard about the delay's because of Android software problems.
Vodafone changing the specs doesn't mean anything, it can be that they just released the information too early. This happened with Android 3.1 also, Adobe wrote in Android Market Flash update description that Android 3.1 is needed and this information was removed very fast and everything was denied until Google officially announced 3.1.
I found now one dealer in Germany that lists a release date. It is Conrad and they say on their webpage 4th of July 2011 for the 3G model. Let's see if that's true.

So, first release for Europe will be the 3G model?
Any news when the wifi only will be available?
That is exactly what it says.
Guys at the stand do not know anything about it as they do not really work for Samsung.
Basically there is a GREAT, BIG MESS around and with this tablet crated by Samsung . It is so big that now looks like even Samsung itself is not 100% sure what is coming out of his production lines.
If you ask Samsung through facebook or its websites in different countries you will get a lot of different answers but what seems to certain is:
all GT10.1 will run 1ghz tegra 2 soc
wifi will not have microsd
3g will have it
it should reach shops with android 3.1
touchwiz ux looks very good and works very good - for me it is actually more convinient and user friendly that google UI.

To be completly honest I have not asked as it is not the one I would buy :-(.
I shuold be later on 2day at another stand to compare unit model but do not know how reliable are infos given there.
As you see CPU shows 1,2 Ghz.... so I'd rather wait for something more official.
I just can not believe Samsung goes on (sill) making more mess, creating confusion and disinformation in regard of its tablet.
This is the first time I have seen official Samsung marketing showing 1.2Ghz... interesting
Have missed other stand 2day - sorry. And since it is a big holiday 2morrow in PL (not usual Sunday) I will not be able to get there 2morrow (it is not me but everything is essentially closed up) :-(.
Get back to you on this on Monday.

And it contraticts with the specs on their official German website: http://www.samsung.de/de/Privatkund...T-P7500UWDDBT/detail.aspx?atab=specifications "1 GHz Dual Core"
So much for their official marketing

One M9+

Should this of been what HTC launched as the M9?
It would of been more of an incentive to upgrade going by the specs.
What's your views on the recently announced M9+?

I decided to skip M9 and get M9+ instead, unless the later M9 Eye is even better...
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
It's being released for China only, so i'm not worried at all. The one we got now is quite a beast and can defo stand up to the others.
But yes, it's a strange choice by HTC, but that's nothing new

An ugly duckling?
Actually, it will be coming to other countries too, didn't see this part in the post:
The HTC One M9+ is currently available in China only and will be ranged in other markets, to be confirmed locally at a later date. Please follow your local country pages for availability information.

Good to know, but is it worth it coming from M8 to M9? Currently using sense7 also, to me I don't think is worth it because I really want a bigger screen. That's why I will wait for HTC if not iPhone 6S plus.
M9+
Well as an early adopter I took the eBay plunge and bought an M9+ via China. I'm a Canadian on the bell network and moving from a HTC one M7 to the M9+ is definitely an improvement. My wife has the M8 so I think I can speak a little to the pros/cons a little.
First off the M9+ works fine on the Bell network. Since I saw the iPhone come with a fingerprint scanner I've been pretty jealous. Needless to say the M9+ scanner seems quite receptive and haven't had any issues to date. The larger qhd screen is nice and really those two features are really what made me go to the M9+ over the regular m9.
The one scary thing as an early adopter using a chineese phone getting my google apps installed ( gmail , play store, contacts , ) which I've become so reliant on. just having the ability to install any apps known to the north American market. Thanks to the xda community as there is a small writeup ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...perience-regarding-installing-google-t3111090 ) on getting them on the forum as your forced to use the chineese play store and when you can't read or understand any chineese it's a bit of a problem.
Haven't been quite able to figure out how to get rid of ChinaSense 7.0 and just go plain English but some notifications and blinkfeed is limited go chineese news but I find that minor. Hopefully there will be or already is a workaround.
Anyways 2 days in and I'm impressed. Ide reccomend going for the plunge if you're a HTC fan for sure.

hahaaaa.....
You will have Google apps and regular Sense 7.0 out of box if you buy the device,M9+, from India or Taiwan....
But the inconvenience is there is less channel to buy it on these countries then China.
If there were custom ROMs in the future and you would like to flash it,it will be all right.

I thought the release in Dubai/UAE was June 1st? Where is it already available in that case?
Available.. (with Comtel warranty - just anticipating your next question.. )
AED 2500 With 2 years Comtel warranty and price might drop down in the next couple of days
great news. I'm crunching on a chinese version, and so far so good... looking at how to create some international recovery and possibly some international rom for owners of the chinese version to switch to... first, i'll need to look at the chinese TWRP recovery if it can be switched to english twrp, but i'm lost yet in the chinese pages linked in some of the threads in this xda section
Is there a place that sells it online so I can have it shipped to KSA? It is still not released here yet
online sales not available but wait for a couple of days
its available now in some stores in Dubai

Waiting is a virtue I cherish but it would feel even better if I knew what for ?
I noticed incomplete phone number on the screen shot. Can you please share clear address and phone number of the store.
