Try switching the date on your phone a few days ahead so you will probably update it usually helps. Can you go in and look what software you have? For the latest firmware is 1.25.405.1

The updated is only for unbranded phones.

My unbranded phone is 1.14.405.2
I don't see any updates available. Do I need to upgrade? If so, how?
(I just set the date to 14 October, I checked for updates. Nothing happened)

My phone is unbranden to and have same 1.14.405.2 number.
I try to move date and nothing...
I have contact HTC and they like usual send me this...
Dear Branislav,
Dear Mr.Branislav Thank you for contacting HTC. Kindly check the capacity of the SD card if is full, remove any 3rd party application and soft reset the device: Soft reset: Remove the battery, then re-insert it If the problem persists please back up your data and Hard reset the device: Hard reset: While the phone is off, press& hold on the Volume Down button, press the power -while the volume down is still pressed- Release Volume down, then follow the on-screen steps. Note: A screen with 3 Androids will come up, Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER. When asked to confirm, press VOLUME UP. If you have any other inquiries, don’t hesitate to contact us again. Please note that you can contact us via support line For further details, please go to....

Thanks for that.
Excuse me while I rant ... wtf???????????????
Really? This the best they can do? I must have done this 30 times with my Windows Mobile phone. I should have kept my resolve and not brought another HTC phone. The triumph of hope over experience.
I'm not going to do this because I am sure it won't help. I must have tried software update shortly after I bought the phone, when it was in this pristine state. I could spend a day backing up and restoring the phone, and losing things like call history and spelling to no avail.
Does anyone have a better idea, or should I see if I can return it as a POS phone and buy an iPhone?

ITT: Noobs, Noobs everywhere.
It may depend on the region.
If your phone is rather new the update might not be visible when you press the check for update button because the changes are included in the rom.
Have fun with that POS iphone.

You post that the update is only for unbranded phones. Now it turns out that you meant unbranded phones that are of a certain age. There is no need to be rude, not everybody can devote their entire life to the ins and outs of their hardware, you don't have to be a noob not to understand HTC software release policy.
If it turned out that HTC had suggested I do a hard reset on my phone to get the software updated, I would have tried to return it. I've lost days of time on the hard reset merry-go-round, and I'm not getting on it again.
(I don't really want an iPhone, but if the android thing didn't work out for me, there aren't many other places to go.)
(sorry for the thread derail, OP)

I just want to let you know that I perform hard reset on my wildfire and it seem to be better now...I just intall advance task killer for now couse it seem to be 3th part app couse problem...
and something else...before I do HR i check for udates and theres no one in the box and after HR I check again and there was 1.25.405.1 update available
I'am not install it yet couse I read somewere that people compare that couse some problems on wifi.

My lag is back..sh..t,mo..er f.ck!#"#%(/()&))=()=!!!!!!!!

Lagging is normal when you're using a F**KING task killer. Cus you're breaking the Android's super memory management system. Uninstall the task killer. Reboot your phone and enjoy its speed

Ok. but how to kill apps that used memory?

I never really noticed a lag on my Wildfire. I got the latest update a couple of days ago and I can say I did notice a slight improvement in performance. But as far as I know, every phone lags at some point, it's normal isn't it?
Check your software again and check what exactly your task killer is and isn't closing. If you want to get deeper, go check what services are running via the settings menus.
You have to also understand, the Wildfire is only an entry level model. It's not as powerful as the high end models, so there is bound to be some performance issues now and again. If you can't deal with that, get rid of it and go for something more powerful.

I know what I bay and wath for...I am not complaining about my phone performance, that laggs started 10 days ago and its not because my phone isn't Desire!

PlZ read this which explains why android doesn't need a task killer. It basically closes apps down after a minimal amount of time.

Hmm looks interesting...... So is the lag with every phone or only some of them?

Xperia X1i freezes a lot after R3a update

I had some occasionally but before I updated, but I guess this is normal for windowsmobile (its my first ppc).
Yesterday I updated my Xperia with the SEUS (Its an unlocked phone so the update came directly from SE and not for example from vodafone).
Since then my Xperia froze a lot. Today I had to remove the battery and reboot for at least 5 times. It always happens on the today screen when I hit the start button. The start menu appears and then the phone just freezes. The backlight doesnt dim or turn off after a while, and the powerbutton also doesnt respond and the only thing I can do at this point is removing the battery or soft resetting. This often already happens shortly after booting.
I didnt install a lot of apps after the update, but I´ll list the here anyway, maby it will help you help me
-Nitrogen
-Syncmate driver
-G-Alarm
-XnView Pocket
-Taskfacade 4
Now I really dont know what to do. Id flash a custom rom since I know it optimizes some things, but Im really new to this and dont even know how to flash a crom or what roms can/should, cant/shouldnt be flashed on my X1.
I hope youre able to help me

I would guess so since it came from SE through SEUS as the TS states.
Are you sure you're on R3AA? I thought this wasn't available on SEUS yet...
Check settings -> system -> device information -> customer information.
I flashed the generic UK R3AA (obtained from XDA-Devs here) at the weekend and so far I'm really impressed. R2AA was a bit slow at times, and froze alot. It never felt comfortable, if you know what I mean.
Early experiences with R3AA for me are really good. Phone feels much slicker, landscape switching is fantastically quick, menus seem to work more quickly (in 'settings', for example), windows folder opens in explorer much more quickly. Basically the whole thing feels better.
I know this is purely subjective, and I know many have said not to bother with R3AA which has ended up as little more than a maintenance upgrade, but I do think it was definitely worth it...for me at least.
Yeah, its the official R3A I installed it through SEUS (Sony Ericson Update Service)
Im really sorry for doubble posting, but its 11 pm here and I need my phone or Ill oversleep tomorrow >.< (No I dont have an alarm clock atm)
The phone freezes literally every time now when I hit the start button, except when Im fast enough and press it right after booting. Its totally useless like this
Already tried a hardreset (pressed both softkkeys and put the styls in the softreset hole) but it didnt reset the phone. What else can I do?

It may be a bad backup or certain application which causes that, IMO.
I had such experiences, that a certain app was slowing down the phone horribly.
I managed to do a hard reset now, first I pressed the wrong key combo (duh´)
So now my Xperia is working again. Its strange that it shows me Sodtwareversion: R3AA007 now, since I had something with R2A before the update (or is that normal?)
Anyways Ill now backup my stockrom if I find the time and flash a custom rom (The video tutorials are awesome)
I think this thread can now be locked. Thanks to everybody who tried to help me
I did find R3AA rom alittle unforgiving when it comes to software conflict as compared to R2AA.
I have PointUI, and apparently the applet I build will causes the R3AA to hang, when it was working fine on R2AA (albeit alittle unstable at times, but not as bad as R3AA). When I patched my applet to ensure it freeds up a certain chunk of memory instead of holding it for next processing, the applet works brilliantly on R3AA again, and even more stable than before.
So I suggest that you install your apps one by one and see which one hung on you.
Do you have the latest Version of G-Alarm? Please check the developer's board at http://forum.ageye.de/ for this problem. This happened often.

Serious bug: auto reboot using camera

Hi guys!
I'm experiencing a serious problem with my X10: Using the stock camera app causes (50% and more of times) a reboot of the device
I'm still stuck with the R1FA016 firmware (Spanish, Movistar) and i thougt this could be the problem since nobody seems to have a so bad experience
Today i tried the Vignette app on the market and the bug is still there... what could be the problem?
Thank you.

If you're using a task killer, check out you are not killing any camera app.
No i'm not killing camera app... (anyway, atk is set to kill apps every half hour)
I just formatted the phone and the bug seems to be still here... rebooting occours even if, in Mediascape i try to view taked photos!!!

Then, try one more thing: uninstall ATK, reboot the phone and let it handle the RAM as it is supposed to.
Perhaps ATK is the culprit! I know it caused me a great deal of problems in the past, until I finally realised that task managers do more harm than good on android operating systems.
@sleepyManX1
the update is out already try OTA update......
I also tried to insert photo app and some services (such as facerecognition) in atk ingore list... the bug is still here
So i'm trying this way: disable atk from autostart...

Any suggestion about this issue?
(I restored factory settings again and did not install any task manager/killer... still the bug is here )
Try to re-install firmaware using SEUS Wish you all the best
Yes... seems to be the only way... and i think i will flash the phone with a generic italian firmware... maybe the problem is in the movistar brand...
I just need a windows pc... (i've a ppc ibook... so no virtualization possible!)

I also have this problem with my desire, apparently after a search in XDA, problem exists in Nexus one (which is like HTC desire anyway) and HTC G1, G2.
seems no solution yet, I flashed my phone and installed the latest radio and a custom rom, still no solution.
hope someone can fix it
sleepyman x1 i too am on the same firmware as u and get the exact same problem im on three network uk, iv tried everything and nothing seems to solve it,,,, the only thing iv found that helps the camera bot up next time is when finished using the camera is to press the back button to exit camera mode and not to use the home button,

These days I will go to my local SE support center, I have no choice ...

You can now download the latest software update for new features and improved performance. It won’t delete any of your content and we’d recommend using a Wi-Fi connection as this is a large update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. Any questions? Contact us via www.htc.com. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Software number will be 1.32.405.3
Update Information: Screen control and photo message compatibility enhancements
Note: We still recommend you back up your all personal data first.

I've also not yet had a problem with the proxy sensor. My old version was 1.28.405.1 so i'm just updating now.
Cant seem to download this - am totally new to Smartphones - would I just download this to my PC or is there some other process ??
@crossbox : Goto > Settings > About phone > System software updates.
It is best to update via wifi for fastest download, once downloaded, select install.
phone will reboot, can take a little while to reboot so makes sure you let it restart by itself.
Brilliant - thanks
Don't know why they don't have those instructions on the HTC page - fools
When i update my phone turns off and stays off . it doesn't restart
any ideas??
just updated 1mon ago.
the process is simple, as usual, the key is always " DONT PANIC!"
go to manu - setting - about phone - system software updates - check now, and follow the on screen instruction.
The phone will restart a few times showing different screens, sometimes it looks like the phone is dead but its actually installing the update at background. during this process:
Dont remove the battery,
Dont force restart,
Dont press random keys,
and DONT PANIC!
the phone will do a full restart at the end of it and show up an system notification that the software has been upated to version 1.32.405.3

i know how the process works i have done it many times in the past. when the phone restarts it just stays off, i've left it for over 20mins and nothing. I have a feeling its because the phone is locked to tmobile.
Hey guys,
My phone had problems answering calls when i picked the phone from my pocket, it would either hang people up or make the screen disfunctioning, and make it impossible to slide the bar up or down.
after the update tried it a couple of times and the problem seems to be fixed!
I've also got a T-Mobile locked device and I can't install the update either. Annoying.
This is the first thing I am going to do when I finally get my phone on Monday.
I too am locked to T-mobile UK and the update worked a treat for me - incidentally HTC sense.com wasnt working very well prior to the update but its now working a treat
I updated aswell. Only diffrence Id seen, higher fps in benchmarks

Update worked fine for me, I didn't have the proximity issue in the first place though. My device was T-Mobile locked but I've unlocked it before the update.
Managed to install it but i had to do a hard factory reset, then installed it and everything works fine now.
Bit of a farce to get it installed on mine in the end. Created a goldcard and manually installed it using the recovery menu in the bootloader. Worked a treat.

I've uploaded here last OTA firmware update from HTC.

(2) What's better after applying this software update? Battery?
Thanks

System Update 1.84.708.1 CL322105

First things first, HTC Desire Z, I am in New Zealand on the Vodafone network in case that makes a difference and running bog standard Sense UI with no mods or ROMs or anything like that.
I have done a search and can't find anything similar anywhere except some asian sites, and I suspect (but hope it isn't) because the phone came from Hong Kong.
Ok, last night an update came through to my phone with the above code, I have lodged a query with HTC but no response as yet and figured you guys may have a better/quicker fix.
Essentially since the update came through the phone has been very slow and glitchy... stalls on background screen before loading app buttons, widgets, menus everything.
So I guess I want to know A: is this a legit update or is it some sort of hack?
and B: can I revert somehow to the last/correct version or am I going to need to install a ROM and start from scratch?
I appreciate your help and if you need any more info just ask.
cheers
Tis legit. HTC seem to be rolling the update worldwide, but very slowly. My dad got it in the UK last Tuesday, I'm still waiting.
His phone seems to be ok. If you're still having problems, try hard reset?
Cheers dude, ok at least that is one less thing to worry about
might give a hard reset a go
I've heard that once you do a update its always good to do a factory reset its like a pc you'll need to give it a good cleaning some time LOL try that

You'll find that if its provided through a carrier, they'll handle the software updates after HTC issues them to ensure their "value added software" or "crap" is loaded on it.
Saying that, mine is a UK SIM free from HTC and I still haven't got the 1.8x.xxx.x update, I'm at 1.72
Heya, I also have the Desire Z, bought from Hong Kong, use on Vodafone, live in Wellington NZ, and also did the update this morning.
Haven't noticed my phone running any slower yet but keen to see the improvements touted though. So far just seen little UI cosmetic changes.
Be sure to go into accounts and redo your sync settings, it put stocks and weather back to real time sync on mine...turned them off straight away.
AHHHHH that could have something to do with the hanging issue. I did a hard reset and initially it seemed better but then once I had re-instated my backed up data, contacts etc, (especially after I shut off the HTC messaging app, and re-synched my google accounts for some reason) it started hanging again.
Maybe the stocks (which I have banished) is trying to sync in the background somewhere? *wanders off to see*
It is a good sign that it is working on other DZ's, main issue seems to be on keyboard open/close events... so might just be incompatiblility with an app I'm running... god I hope it isn't Handcent
Ok, update time, redone the sync settings, removed anything that has been added in the last week or so in case I just didn't notice (unlikely but ???) the hanging problem.
oefox are you using Handcent for your messaging or the standard messaging app? i have removed it and that seems to have made a slight improvement although only very slight... this is driving me mad... may have to try another hard reset tonight and rebuild the data only and start again with apps.
Fake edit: HTC got back to me "try soft reset, hard reset... sorry can't help as phone is HK build, we have passed your query to them... they will be in touch" We shall see?
Actual Edit: Also seems to be destroying battery life all of a sudden, and it seems to think it has been off the charger for 22 minutes... which is odd as it came off the car charger 5 hours ago... hmmm.. definite issues here... looks like an actual rebuild may have to happen :/
You could try an app like Watchdog Lite from the Android Market to see if there is a process gobbling up your CPU cycles? It may be the cause of what's slowing the phone and draining your battery...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Thanks for that, I have installed Watchdog Lite, removed a couple of apps that I thought might be a little bit problematic and I will stop playing with it for the day and how the battery reacts to "normal" use i.e. not constantly setting/resetting loading/unloading/deleting/syncing/unsyncing stuff lol... still seems to hang and whatnot though but we shall see.
If that doesn't help I will try a fresh hard reset and build from scratch (not from backup) and see if that helps :/
Call me uninspiring but I really like the default email and messaging. I have found after playing with it for a couple of days now that it will sometimes hang for a couple of seconds when returning to the home screen, shows the background but no icons for a few seconds.
On the plus side my wifi seems to have improved stability somewhat.

I did upgrade the firmware, but I didnt notice any improvement.
I mean everything is just fine
I thought that it would upgrade it to Gingerbread and Sense 3.0
I would be nice to have that version
Cheers
I have an HK Desire Z as well, and have experienced the exact same problem since the system update. I have not tried a hard reset because I'd rather not spend the time, but the home screen "blank and reload" issue is quite aggravating. I may have no other choice but to reset.
I will try waiting a couple days to see if somebody posts an easier fix.
Aha if you have a G2 wait till T-mobile gives it to us... we will be getting gingerbread
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Ok, good to see it isn't just me, it is definitely an issue and the reset doesn't seem to help much so if you havn't already done it don't bother localhost21. however I think I have found the main culprit and it seems to be the Google Maps updates that are causing the majority of the hanging etc.
if you remove the updates, i.e. go back to the standard version that came on the phone and it seems to make quite a difference so try that.
Unfortunately as i use the navigation function on maps quite a bit I kinda need to keep it so a bit of a catch 22. If you don't really need it though that should solve most of the problem... if any other fixes arrive let me know
Hopefully vodafone NZ give us the Gingerbread upgrade, or google brings navigation out of beta because it really is very good.
Edit: Still hangs, I have become a habitual killer of tasks which is nearly as annoying as the hanging, esp. if you have to open the task manager after it has hung, and it seems the processes causing the hang won't stay dead (auto-killed etc) *goes hunting for basic, stable, rom*
I encountered a new problem in that my notification sounds seem to randomly choose what to play when I recieve sms/calls so I did a hard reset but I still have that issue.
It also still hangs on the home screen if the k/b is open so hard reset doesn't fix this problem so I want to try a new rom
Has anyone done a root/flash yet with a HK Z?

Xoom being Wiped Every Power Off

Hi All,
Every time I press the power switch off at the back to turn off - I get a partial system wipe.
I installed one or two apps then started having issues turned off and on again and working fine. Installed a few more apps - then issues now everytime I power off with the power button I get the first few apps and lose everything else.
I have tried a reset to factory defaults but that leaves the few apps on ( LinkedIn, DroidIn and Facebook).
I am also left with my Hotmail (ActiveSync) still syncing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am in Ireland using a 3G & WiFi and on Androind 3.0.1 out of the box.
Thanks

I am in Ireland using a 3G & WiFi and on Androind 3.0.1 out of the box.
Thanks

Do you think the problem is related to the apps you downloaded?
Hey,
I tried uninstalling the apps before the wipe and leaving on before the wipe.
Bizarrely I remove all my music (through Windows) and even that is restored?
Given its out of the box since Friday it may be returned.
Given the quality of the Honeycomb it does require power off....... damn frustrating.

I would grab your stock images from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049485 and just start over. Something is not right.
Hi,
I was clinging onto the hope of avoiding this but in the back of my mind... expecting it.....
Given I have little idea on what to do can you treat me like a newbie and walk me through - or should I recognise my shortcomings and return for a swap out?

I would not return it, this is the best way to learn . I would start here, a friend of mine wrote a really good guide for unrooting. If you follow it, it will get you where u need to be. Read my warning below. If you need more help, feel free to come by the #xoom irc channel, link is in my signature.

DO NOT DO THE LAST FASTBOOT COMMAND:
fastboot oem lock
That post seems to suggest unrooting - not sure how this is relevant, I have not rooted the device - done nothing other than install a few apps and copy my music on....

I usually don't suggest this as I'm with bwcorvus about using the opportunity to learn, but as you are on an EU model (I'm assuming) with 3G, you might be better off with an exchange. Something is definitely not right and it's so new...you didn't even have time to break it yet!
Just exchange...the new one will be great! Then if you want to update, root and customize I know there is a method here for all of that.
Have you done a factory reset?
Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset
Yes full factory rest which does not wipe the device .....

Something is wrong, if you have not rooted or unlocked and factory reset is not clearing ur data. Try this...Factory reset, but when the device reboots, do not run setup...just keep hiting skip. See if any of the apps are there this way.
