Does the epic have wireless N? - Epic 4G General

I've noticed that my wireless N network doesn't appear on my epic is there a setting to turn it on it was advertised as having wireless N right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

im having the same problem. it says it has n in the specs, but my network dosent show up

Are you running at 5ghz or 2.4Ghz on your home access point? Does the Epic only support 2.4Ghz N?

It does support N right out of the box. My E3000 router shows an active N connectionn when I enable the phone's WiFi.

Im connected to my wireless g network and i've noticed that it disconnects for like 2 seconds and then reconnects right away
Anyway to fix this

Shows up as N on my router. Interestingly enough, max throughput for both my Epic and Evo are approximately 11 mbps.

theres probably an 802.11b device on your network. The network has to drop down to the speed of the slowest device on the network and b devices operate at 11 mbps

Force it to run on N only.
"how do I do that?"
Manual or google specific model.

It would be specific to your router. My epic is connecting to my single band 2.4ghz router. To force it, you'll need to access the router through your browser, like you would to change the network id or password.

That would seem unlikely - most modern routers support mixed-mode operation. I can push over 80 Mbit on my N-based laptop over 2.4GHz with b devices connected. On the 5GHz band, I get closer to 112 Mbit, but that's a different point entirely.
Both the Evo, Captivate, and Epic seem to top out, for me, at around 9-11Mbit. This is probably a processing limitation, WiFi chipset limitation, or chipset bandwidth limitation more than anything else.

Sorry, my bad. I had my settings all messed up from the router. Got it working. Thanks anyway.

Am I the only one that could connect to an N router (set up to allow ONLY N connections) when I was on my brand new EPE54B 2.1 Update 1 AT&T Nexus One when I got it 3 weeks ago?

I can connect to my N router at ERE27, with 65Mbps connection speed
i quess 2.4Ghz? Not the 5..Ghz right?
I can connect to wireless N with my ATT Android 2.1 too
I've got a dual band router. It will not see my 5ghz N band, but will connect on the 2.4ghz band. Fastest i've seen it though is 72Mbps
Does not see or connect to my 5GHz n network.
If i remember correctly, the N1 is missing an antenna for it to access a 5GHz wireless-n signal. Just like my netbook which sucks since my entire university has a 5 GHz wireless-n signal but not 2.4 wireless n

That sucks. The whole point of n is the 5GHz spectrum.
802.11n support is only on the 2.4 GHz band. 5 GHz band is not supported.
Also, it's a 1T1R radio (one spectral) vs. 2T2R (2x2 MIMO) like most common 802.11n consumer products meaning it's limited between 65 to 72 Mbps.

Wifi question

I searched the forums to no avail to the following question/issue.
It states on both the Samsung and TMO websites that the networking specs for the Vibrant cover 802.11 b/g/n. My router is dual-band and throwing both g and n signals because my ipod touch can only get g. My computer is connected to the n band. My Vibrant only sees the g band but I would love to connect it to the faster n. Is anyone able to connect to 802.11n? Why would my Vibrant not see the n signal if it is capable? Whadoido? TIA.
The Vibrant's wifi is, as far as I know, 2.4 GHz only, but a typical dual band router setup does b/g only on 2.4 and n only at 5.8. If you have the option to do b/g/n on the 2.4 GHz band it should work.
How do you check the wifi connection speed?

That doesn't make the internet on the phone faster since no way you can fully utilize the bandwidth of wireless g on a phone (someone correct me if I'm wrong).Try to disable both b/g on your router to see if it takes the n.
It's for streaming and file transfer from the server, not the internet. The problem is probably band frequency. Thanks.

[POLL] Wireless N users! What speeds are you connecting at?

What connection speed are you getting to your router? For some reason I can not get above 65Mbs connection. All my laptops connect at the 150Mbs. Any tweaks that you guys know of to increase this?
Dumb question. Is Wireless N on by default on the Evo these days?

Settings/wireless& networks/ wifi settings/ click the router your connected too and an info window will pop up.
There are probably apps available to give you wifi and router information also, I haven't checked.
The highest I've seen on mine was 54 Mbps.
I only see 65mbps with full signal, literally in the same room as my router, regardless of what router I use.
So folks seeing 100+: What router you usin', and are you lying?
So what am I doing wrong? I top out at about 30Mbps on my budget cable connection wired or wireless to the laptop. Speedtest.net app maxes out at 10 to the Evo.
72 mbps here completely stock

My Evo shows the connection at 65mbps but I've only ever achieved between 6 and 7 mbps using Xtremelabs Speedtest. Annoying since my net package is supposed to be up to 15 mbps but I guess that's only going to be under perfect circumstances.

Eh, sometimes I get better with my other computers, sometimes not. I mean, my PC connects at 300mbps but there's no way I'm actually going to get that from the internet with my plan only at 15. I think some folks may have some confusion that the settings are only telling you the network connection, not necessarily the internet speed.

That's the downstream bandwidth, which seems actually pretty good.
What we're talking about is intra-network throughput. Speed in which your device communicates with your router.
I had to install a modified wireless kernel module to get N back after the 2.3 Gingerbread update. Or one can install a custom kernel which includes the wireless N fix such as freedom or chopsuey.

[Q] 5GHz 802.11n

I can't for the life of me get my Xoom to see my 5GHz 802.11n network... I have a Linksys E3000 running dd-wrt with one of the connections doing g/n mixed and the other doing straight up 5GHz n. It works fine when I connect with my laptop. The Xoom will of course see and connect to the g/n mixed network no problem using 2.4GHz n.
Are you using 40 MHz channel bandwidths?

Yeah, I've tried 40 MHz both upper and lower and 20 Mhz.
My xoom sees my 2.4 network with full bars, 5ghz at 50% power even though I am in the same room with the access point...
do you have any other devices hooked up to the WAP?
Does the fact that the Xoom's wifi radio is 2.4ghz N make a difference?

No, this is the only device.
I don't have a xoom, but with my X I had to remove a dash from my SSID. I also swear for 5 minutes my X saw my 5ghz band (my router does both simultaneously), but I guess that could have just been the router broadcasting the wrong SSID for the 2.4ghz.
FWIW, I have an 802.11a (5GHz) network at home (nice, 'cause my a-capable WiFi devices don't have to compete with the other ~15 visible 802.11g networks in my area) and I was able to connect to that right away. Pretty surprised, actually, but the BCM4329 is an a/b/g/n capable device, after all.
I'm currently on a 5ghz n only network without issue. Netgear wndr3700.
Just wanted to update everyone in case others find this thread looking for help that I may have found my solution. I came across a post on the Motorola forums that mentioned needing to set the channel to one of a handful of channels, notably, one of the following: 36 40 44 48 149 153 157 161. My router is currently set to auto and I have confirmed it is not on a compatible channel at the moment. Unfortunately, I will be unable to test this to confirm it is the problem until I get home in a few days. Will update again then.

Where did you see the specification that Xoom's wifi radio is 2.4Ghz? Especially since some people are connecting to their 5Ghz N routers.
Please see: https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/46417?tstart=120
Most WiFi IS 2.4GHz; what sets the Xoom apart is we have the 5GHz "N" and "A" bands, too.

Update: Well I'll be damned, that's exactly what the problem was. Changed my channel from Auto, which had selected channel 56 which supposedly is not supported, to channel 48 which supposedly is supported and it showed right up and connected no problem.

Wireless router question

Ok so I'm moving to another place by myself and need to buy a router. The internet averages about 7-10mb/s here. My question..is there any reason to go with anything over a 150mb/s rated wireless router? Like say a netgear n150? I play ps3 online..watch "videos" etc...mainly does the fact that my internet connection is far less than what the router is rated at matter?

There's little reason to buy a router based on its rated speeds - 95% of the time, you will get MUCH higher wifi network speeds than the actual internet is... It's only of use if you are transferring files between two computers both on the wifi network.
The outside connection is the same speed regardless, but an 802.11n network should have a better range (and is faster).
Ahh ok..so I don't need to dish out for a high rated router since im not actually using the network part of it. Thanks.

Just because it says 150mbs on the box won't mean you will get that. Sure if you are standing next to the phone you will, but as soon as you start movign away it will DROP fast. on my home pc which is maybe 20 metres away it gets around 11-54mb.
on wireless G it would barely connect, i would go with N to be safe
