[JUST RELEASED] AppGroup Widget ! :)

Just released:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726809
Hi everyone,
Take a look to this AppGroup Widget idea:

Do you think this is a cool way to group apps and present them in a nice looking widget?
The widget should be fully customizable:
- Stroke / outline color and size
- Group Title color
- Group background gradient color
- Widget background color / alpha transparency level
If possible, customizable number of apps in column, 4 or 5.
The widget should be available in different sizes:
4x3
4x2
4x1
2x2
2x4
1x4
The widget should function just to launch the app when the icon is pressed.
The "gear" icon in the top left is for widget settings (add / remove apps from group).
Now, to be honest, this is just an idea
I am not Android developer.
So, if you are a developer and would like to pick this for your project, please do so! If you think this is cool and add more "visual options" to our Android platform.
To be honest, I have not seen widget like this so far. Apologize if I am wrong.
But I am thinking this kind of visual grouping to easily distinguish between apps groups and quick access.
And to SHOW that Android can display apps in a UNIQUE compelling, nice looking way! Not just GRID of icons!!
What do you think? Any taker?
Please, before Apple/Microsoft took this idea for their next thingy!
Wow! I have been looking for a widget to do this exactly, too bad this is just an idea at the moment cause I think this is exactly what Sense needs to be complete atleast for my needs.
If we're throwing ideas around... what about collapsible groups or tabbed groups? Also rather than only support apps within, how about allowing any 1x1 app/shortcut/widget. Why stop at only allowing 1x1 children? (as long as I don't have to code it). Just random thoughts.
That requires extra click to launch the app?

Only when the group is already collapsed or hidden by another tab. The payoff is more virtual space to organise apps within. There's nothing new in the ideas as they're used extensively in desktop guis so the use cases are well established.
App Organizer is similar to this idea, but your idea seems better.
I would totally go for this!
Yeah, I have not seen this yet. It should bring more visual customization option for Android.
I would certainly buy this widget for sure !
Damn, I wish I know how to code on Android
I have contacted the Apps Organizer developer and see if he/she is interested in implementing this as feature or new product.
Looks like my earlier post didn't take...
The biggest hindrance of this is its inability to integrate with the normal home screen UI; Programs cannot be dragged into it, nor can a drag event be sent to the widget. All configuration would have to be done through a separate activity.
This will certainly get the widget downranked in the marketplace, but that shouldn't stop us.
I have made a few similar projects before that between them cover all the code for a basic group widget. I will play around with making a prototype, but no promises on release right now.
If the OP could post some image templates for the frame and header that would be helpful for future work, but for now the prototype will just be a solid background with icons.
A clueless question: would integration into Home be improved if this could be implemented as a live wallpaper rather than as a widget?
Its a very good idea, but again the drag action is claimed by the home app to pan the screen.
As a status update, I have ported the first gen app/shortcut icon code from my previous project to a clean object based method. I am now working on building a custom view to show the list and perhaps run drag/drop interactions for the config activity. By implementing it as a view, the code can be used in the widget and the activity with no need to maintain two copies of the same interface.
dev neeeeeeeeeeded
Got a working app centric custom grid view, but turns out that is completely useless, as Android is "too secure" to allow custom views in widgets.
Unfortunately, the only apparent way to do this as an actual widget is to make a grid entirely out of linear layouts (as grid layout is not supported for widgets), and use image buttons as the icons.
I will see how nice I can get it looking with linear layouts.
The supposed security of android is turning out to be a real hindrance; this isn't the first project I have taken on that had to be feature cut or abandoned because of it.
It's been released
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726809
The brilliant developer of FolderOrganizer made it. I just helped him with this idea, testing and creating skins.
Wauw.. What an awesome idea
I will try this at once!

[APP] Create shortcuts to Sense/ADW/LauncherPro and other Home on your desktop

Hello, just made an app that allow users to toggle your favourite Home.
I just create a shortcut to the Home you want., just have a look at this Video, maybe that will be easier to understand:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMpONctP2F8
I found that Home switcher need such a feature, I contacted the dev, but doesn't want to work on something like that, so I did it myself!
Remarks:
* Cyrket description here
* Use the longpress on homescreen and create a shurtcut? If you launch the main app, the shortcuts will be created on ALL your Home! so you will need to delete some ;-)
Just tell me if you find that usefull or not!

Changelog:
1.1: Now use the longpress on homescreen to add a shortcut. Will not be repeated on every Launcher like the main app.
1.01: major bug corrected with HTC Sense
1.0: First release
First post edited, the app is now in the Android Market. All seem to work fine.
Does it make the different homes default or is it just to switch between them?

I don't have a really need for this app myself, but the few friends friends that try it really loved it.
May i ask where that background image is from? its stunning
Whats the background you have in that video??

Last version in the ANdroid Market allow you to use the longpress on Homescreen to add shortcut only to your favorite home.
Can now be used with launcherPro dock.
Just made an update.
I am very excited for some features, because I am making something like the Sense Desktop.
This allow you to create different Homescreens with different wallpapers and icons.
Please send me feedback!
What's New?
You can now rename the Shortcut. ( and also changing icon in future donate version)
You can now change wallpapers for each Home
I hope this feature will allow people to create Theme like Sense ( one for work, for games, etc...
Possibility to make it the default home when you use a shortcut.
Unfortunately this will break the behavior of the Home button in home ( Expose on LauncherPro or getting back to default homescreen)
Hope you will love it.
Ouch... just fixed a bug that was very annoying!
If you choose EasyHome as default without setting a Home, the app crashed.
Now fixed!
Can somebody help me please, people in comment report crashes, but I've got no problem on all my phones.

- WidgetLocker [The best of the best!]
WidgetLocker have to be the best Lock screen app out there.
You can do so much with it, have your own widget on the lock screen,
change slider layout from Iphone, Sense Ui, Froyo and Motorola.
To top it off, it can be customized! Every slider can be edited with
a png edit program like Photoshop or Gimp. Just replace the images in
the .APK and push it over wia ADB or use Root Explorer.
NB: This is not a free app, this is a paid app.

[If you do not wanna pay for the app there is an alternative,

- LockBot Free
LockBot is totaly useable! It has some nice customizations and great layouts,

Circle Lock, X10 or even Galaxy. But i Recommend WidgetLocker.

[ZOOPER][WIDGET]Flat Calendar Widget (UPDATE 6/22: new colors, fixes)

Hello all,
After enjoying the great work of everyone else around here, I decided to "make" an app all my own. Both within the Play Store and among the Zooper skins, I've always had a hard time finding attractive calendar widgets. Eventually, I just decided to make my own! I decided to share because I figure that others might have had the same desire as me.
I was inspired by the design of skins like FlatSearch and Pure Flat Clock as well as my favorite icon pack Flatastico and really wanted a calendar widget to go with my flat theme. So...here we are!

There are 3 4x2 layouts of both blue and green themes, plus a compact 4x1 version of each color scheme.
You can download from the Play Store; for now, I would like to keep all downloads there so the app can get some exposure through searches and the like. If that's a problem, send me a PM and I can send you the .apk.
I am now offering a PRO version for .99 USD to support all of my time spent working and tweaking. Benefits of PRO:
-NEW live weather configuration for each layout
-NEW pro exclusive black theme
-30 total layout options vs 12 in free version
-Ability to save layouts for future customization
Some screenshots:
Update 6/21: New Moonshine-inspired color scheme. Designed to coordinate with Moonshine Icons and associated wallpapers. Opaque background. See screenshot of those icons along with the new widget color scheme:
I owe a tremendous debt to the developers of Zooper widget - they have made the process of turning a user-made skin into a working app quite easy, considering how little coding knowledge I have. The aforementioned app developers whose gorgeous themes helped inspire me deserve my gratitude as well. XDA folks in general, thank you very much for making this place inviting for a person who has had to learn every single little thing about Android over the past year or two since I bought my first device. Any feedback is appreciated; this is my first app and I fully acknowledge that I could be making some sort of silly mistake or otherwise being a bad web/xda citizen.
Looks nice, but I think it would look better if you had the number dates and weekdays aligned with each other.
Thanks for your feedback!
Do you think this looks better?
