This phone lacks vs. G1... for now - myTouch 3G Slide General

I came from using G1 but now bricked due to deathspl... and actually waited for this phone to come. Ran into several problems I picked up on over the months since launch..
Bluetooth seems to be configured depending on headset. For example, using my motorola s9 hd works perfect.. but my jawbone only picks up calls no media support. Where as on G1 it will have full support.. I have another stereo bluetooth but only plays media and no phone support.
Majority of the time I download from youtube.. tubedroid favorite. But I found the hardware plays downloaded videos off sync.. the visual plays then sound comes on half sec or so later. I tested this on other youtube apps and found similar results. Yxplayer seems to play the videos correctly however.
One thing I notice is multi touch seems to support no more than 2 spots.. zoom on browser works but I noticed problems when playing megaman zero on gameboid. Cannot charge shot/jump/dash at same time. I already informed the dev but they say its the hardware..
My 2 questions are. Will future custom roms. Be able to fix these problems. And if so, will I be flamed for posting this in the android development section?

I have had my g1 from before it offically came out and man this phone is 20x better then the g1. Do u know how buggy the g1 was when it first came out especially with the bluetooth. I have no problems using icon bluetooth headset or my moto h690

Most of the problems you list, multi touch and bluetooth, could have probably been improved by developers and included into the rom you used. As for tubedroid, if it is an app that doesn't have anymore updates, it's likely that the application was made for use on a G1 and the development was stopped, so of course it would be perfectly compatible for the G1. You have to take in consideration that the G1 has a big group of developers improving it where the slide was released just a bit over a month ago.

Ok lemmie give you a low down :l have you noticed android has been shipping out new phones like its a christmas sale well they dont have time to fix all the kinks so they fix what they seem like is what most people would use and update the frameware later to fix the other problems. And many slide roms improve on the MTS

You're an idiot, Android is the product of the Android Open Source Project. They do not make the phones. Legally any manufacturer can ship an Android non-Google branded device without Google's consent (albeit, lack of gapps).
Froyo, as every Android release, is coming with updated Bluetooth drivers and will fix many bugs found in Eclair and Donut. Gingerbread most likely will as well.

I came in late with the G1 so i was able to pick up on roms that fixed much of the problems. I remember I flashed a rom and was upset the bluetooth wasn't working properly. Stupid me didn't realize the rom was still in beta. I just find it so weird all 3 of my bluetooths have different support for this phone.

I understand this, i just thought it was a good time to point out these flaws for devs to be aware of.... i contacted sirius via email and they told me they'd get on to fixing it... i have no idea if it was automated or something.

to put it in perspective. The G1 was Marilyn Monroe, The Slide is Khloe Kardashian (Kim with her Big Ole Kadunkadunk would have to be the mighty Galaxy S Variant dropping tomorrow).
They both have they're place and are hot in their own ways, but just like the comparison women the slide is is great underneath its outer shell with revamped cpu, room to grow and nice and trim in all the right places.

Lol crazy/funnt comparison. Serious note, speaking of cpu... I can't wait to see how for mt3g slide can be overclocked.. I was so ready for the phone I bought it in red and fitted red and orange rubberized hard shells in a sort of iron man theme... too bad doesn't come in gold yellow.

HOW DARE YOU COMPARE OUR BEAUTIFUL MTS TO THAT UGLY SLUT! Lol!
seriously though, our taste in women must differ greatly. Marilyn had a nice shapely butt, imo.
I guess I have a thing for the old school women. Anyways... when we get an update for the MTS... the kernel can be hacked and the CPU can be amped up more like it should be. My old G1 is dead even in linpack scores at 3.5 MF with my MTS running slide Mr1 v4. I'm sure the froyo beta would put it ahead at around 4.5-6 MF. I heard of some folks getting like 7-8mf but I'm not sure if I believe that...

I'm getting 8's on linpack every time you should try it its fast as hell

Eeeek! That's fast! JIT is doing it's job. Man, I wish we could figure out a way to enable JIT on 2.1! I've been working on it tonight with no luck so far.
I tried the old libdvm.so file but just bootloops, lol! That's what's making froyo so damn fast. Plus, built in a2sd isn't working on froyo yet nor camera/camcorder right? I really need stability and the froyo tease won't do anything but make me angry, lol! I know folks are saying it's stable for everyday use but I don't know...

Its pretty stable been about a week for me no random fc's only thing that bugs me is that I can't get flash to work when I take a picture.just do a nandroid and give it a shot I promises you the speed will make you stock with it.

Yeah, the camera drivers definatly are perfected yet. I tried it last night and wow its fast! Even with lwp running with all my widgets. Yep, its twice as fast as slidemr1 v4.... the only bummer is that I couldn't get a2sd to work. I formatted the whole SD to fat32 and still nothing. No partitions either. I guess I could play with it more... flashed back last night because I ran out of time. I might just wait a bit longer for a more stable Rom. But it was fun for sure...

Roman I was talkin about android phones and you don't have to critisize every person in here dude.

question on all vogue-android builds

which is the most stable for everyday use right now? also what happened to this tattoo build for us on qvga, i don't see it anywhere?
If you want something truly stable and fast, use the standard Ion build. Other than that, most of the Ion/Cupcake builds are very good for use. Such as the xRom builds or something like that.
The tatoo/hero/pulse/etc. builds are in the works and are not really stable. The ones which are "stable" usually run kind of slow on our hardware. Even though they are definitely cool and look awesome. They aren't really practical for everyday use imo.

I'm using the motor build at 240 x 320 & 110 lcd density... very nice. A few hiccups but this looks like my fav build so far. Once you get to homescreen let it settle down for a bit and it works well. Gps, native camera.... need to figure out how to fine-tune this puppy
none of these builds are functional enough for me to use everyday, im soo disappointed. that and now i can't buy the hero until next year because of $$ issues. im stuck with the damn vogue and winmo hell.

Any of the Ion builds are great for use everyday. All you lack is bluetooth and MMS but Android makes up for that with its other benefits. Ion is perfectly stable and fast.
right now im running zens xrom and it seems to be pretty stable soo far. ill give it a go this weekend.
couple questions.... can we take a screenshot at all yet? also is there a way to remove the clock from the taskbar? i find it stupid to have a clock on the taskbar and then a clock widget on the home screen.

I would recommend using SPB Mobile shell 3.1 or 3.5 and then adding the Revolution theme. It's a rip off of the Hero UI and SPB Mobile shell is the MOST stable Today plugin that I have used to date.
They made it over in France so use this link to translate for you.
Sence le Revolution
You have root access through su. And to take a pic you can use the debugger in the sdk.
And hero runs sense ui just fine so no need to fake it.

What about the ion build? That's every day usable in my eyes. And I've had problems with Windows mobile locking up and missing calls even on a stock Rom/radio...but to me I see more complaints from you than anyone else. Yeah I wouldnt mind hearing from someone that came from say CM5 to the latest stock Froyo. Is it better? Is it worth flashing now seeing as how CM6 is about a week or so away?
I would try it now myself, but I can't give up the dumb little things. (such as trackball wake)
I've used every CM version and every leaked version of Froyo. I was surprised that the final Froyo release seemed faster and smoother than FRF83. The browser seems really fast now and app switching is great thanks to JIT. I like my FRF85B Froyo final setup right now more than I did CM5.0.8. I can't wait for CM6 though.
Super. Wonderful. Amazing. Thank you Google and anyone else on the OHA that contributed to this.
It's great. I love it. I love it even more when someone hands me a HTC Touch Pro2 with Windows Mobile on it... Microsoft shouldn't even be in the mobile business. They should leave it to the experts. It was sad.
If you ever get a chance to put your hands on Windows Mobile... do it. It will make you appreciate your Android phone more than when you bought it.

I don't think the JIT would have much impact on app switching. The highmem kernel OTOH makes a huge difference. My launcher was always relaunching when switching from big apps such as the browser or navigation. Since upgrading to froyo I haven't seen the launcher restart once.

Yeah you are probably right. I just thought I read somewhere that JIT had benefits for loading apps, it might have just been for 3rd party apps because JIT converts to native code before processing (something like that).

The JIT actually wouldn't have any impact on loading times. The standard interpreted code is always run initially. It's only once the app starts running that the JIT is able to locate frequently accessed blocks of code that would benefit from compiling to native code.

hahaha, funny you mentioned that.
A co-worker of mine approached me, and said he bought this Android™ phone from a friend. He heard that I know about Android, rooting, apps, etc. so he had some questions for me. He hands me the phone, and I was thrilled to hold this LARGE HTC DEVICE in my hand. I haven't held an EVO, yet, so imagine my joy!!! My first time ya know so I was honored.
It was branded T-MOBILE though ... hhmm, this can't be right!!! It should say Sprint!!!
After seeing the homescreen and tapping/flicking/swiping for all of 1.0 seconds, I handed it back to him and told him he has a Windows Mobile device - NOT ANDROID, and boy oh boy, was he pissed!!!! LMAO
Poor guy!

Plus I think they want Espresso Froyo, not vanilla Froyo.
The thing is that the Froyo is "comming soon" and we the users who haven't rooted yet are undecided to whether wait and get the clean update, or choose to figure the root thong out and get Froyo and its features nooow.
Right now I'm gathering information, reading tutorials, and understanding everything to be ready to root and flash Cyanogen Rom, now I just hope that by the time I do all this I don't want to hear "hey yo heard the news!? Froyo for Slide is hea!" I'd be maaad!!
But this thought comes to my mind... Ain't I getting the same thing?? The difference is that I'd be rooted...

Yes if you were to go and root your phone, you can have froyo all day, but everyone is waiting for an official release so they can keep the Sense UI, which has all the nice widgets and such. I myself am skeptical as to when that will happen. I like froyo and all, but I've always been a fan of the Sense UI, so ill stick it out, occasionally flashing all the other great roms we have.

plus, an official ota will also improve all current froyo builds for the MTS. alot of stuff can be ported and fixed like bluetooth, wifi, etc...
It took me ages to decide to root, and once I did, i went back to the stock rom (rooted). Two years ago my phone was a P.O.S. till Cyanogen came up and beat it into shape. Now i have a decent device with OK software. We've come a long way and more and more people are happy with stock. Once they work the bugs out of Cyanogenmod I will probably move ove. Till then, i am good.
2.2 for the Slide should be out before the end of the summer according to our HTC rep, most likely sometime in September. The other bit of good news is that it will include WiFi calling ability.

Yes I understand, man this developers are awesome!
How ever, as for what I've seen the root method is still complicated for the MyTouch Slide, 2 procedures to root and one to flash a room, (I'd like CyanogenMod)
I've dealed with Sony Ericsson Walkman phones modding, but Android's are more complex xO
The things that make me feel like trying it out are:
-Froyo of course..
-Full Flash Player 10.1
-Install apps on SD (I've read it requires more things like a partition and don't know what else)
-Live Wallpapers
-make it mine.....
The things that pull me back and make me feel like not. trying:
What if battery life was better in stock rom??
The tutorials sound a lil' experimental
Besides rooting and rom flashing, there also this Radio thing.... is it nesesary or optional??
I'd like to save my self fun time and head breaking from not trying. THEN WHY I AM HERE?!---- Because I'm undecideeeeeeed xO

Trust me battery wont change just cause you rooted, some say Froyo has "better" battery life, now i cant promise cause i dont use froyo on my slide.I oc and get 1 day+....Well depending on usage of course.
You need to upgrade your radio too, it is very simple to root, i rooted my slide twice with the new new method that just came out(1-2 weeks ago)
Also some people are 15, and have their parents paid the bill, as well as paying for warranty every month, so rooting is not an option for me.

Sticking with stock

I rooted my EVO 4G which came with GB preloaded, have tried a few different ROM's but have found that none are as good as stock. I had the HTC Hero for a while running CM and it was pretty good, however for the EVO to many things don't work just right with alot of these ROMS. The GB stock for the EVO is pretty good on battery. What really bothers me with CM is the camera doesn't work with Skype, and with Qik either. Can't wait for a final stable to come from CM.

I suggest you get a stock sprint rom from on here that removes all the clutter sprints forces on its stock rom that comes with the phone. Will make your experience a bit faster and may improve battery life a bit.
You could also try setcpu to underclock your phone when the screen is off in order to save battery.
There is no way and I repeat NO WAY that stock GB runs better than any rom on this forum. It's overloaded with bloatware and all sorts of other memory hogs. With you being certified in both apple and pc, you should be able to notice this. You should try out other roms other than CM7. There's other good stuff out there. I would give synergy or synergy kingdom a try.
+1 for synergy aswell, using it and loving it so far
Does everything work on synergy? Including skype and qik video calls?

Because the video calls don't work in CM7 that's why I'm asking. Also had problems switching front and back cameras.

As much respect as I have for the devs on here I kind have to agree with the op. I have been running from stock roms for over a year and have tried them all. I like alot of the features the devs put in them but I can't seem to find one that is the end all rom. I recently got a tablet and flashed haus stock gb and love it. I can still feather, battery is good and everything works. Still swap prls at will. Got hdmi out on the tab so that's not a concern. Just my two pennies but please devs don't stop doing what you do. The more you guys do the more you and we learn. I will still continue my flashing addiction now that I have boot manager. Lol

Are you sure its not just a bad flash or something?
Front camera works fine on 180 nightly for me I just checked.
Can you switch cameras within skype or qik?

I've experimented with a couple of roms but I usually find myself going back to the stock configuration too. Trying Synergy now, maybe it will woo me away.
I tried synergy when I first rooted a few weeks ago, I'm pretty sure that I wasn't able to switch from front camera to back camera within video apps and that's what made me go back to stock, same problem with cm7.

Same here. I'll continue trying new roms if for no other reason than it's just fun firing up a new one... But contrary to most everything I have read on these forums, the stock configuration seems to get the best battery life.
I agree with last comment.

Sooooooo conference is over... I can just image what can be done through development on phones now. Now that the SDK is available, hopfully we will see some ICS this month? Im excited!
What are your favorite features? (If you watched the conference)
Without source code we're basically SOL for a daily driver, but SDK ROMs are cool to check out

The face unlock seems cool but what is your in a dark place like a bar. I hope they have an alternate way to unlocking it in that situation.
The new camera app looks sweet and I love how fast it can snap pictures on the Galaxy Nexus.
Taking out physical buttons was brilliant. Not only does it make the screen bigger but this way you can have what ever buttons you like (fully customizable). Unlike now as I never use the search button on my Dinc.
i Love the idea of the facial recognition, im sure rooted devices could eventually impliment thaf into unlocking apps too.
and when they had the mess up, it looked like it went to the pattern unlock, so i guess thats a back up.
the buttons was also great, much more room for larger screens, but the lack of physical buttons also worries me a bit.
hopefully some nice development will come out of this, so far i think this is the best android version with the most features and ui changes

BAM!

Well, I think it's the ICS apps at least...
Can't wait to so CM8/9 to start showing up. Please make it work on the Incredible.(and the RZR too)
Yeah hope we get some ICS roms soon. Since I'm holding out on a Droid 4 or anything with a QWERTY keyboard, that's not that Samsung toy

If some roms get good enough, i might ditch miui and give it a try. its exciting to see what all has been put into it.
hats off for google!

Here's my question...
The ICS Google Music app was already leaked a couple weeks ago. Will the other updated apps (like Gmail, for example) be made available to Gingerbread users as well (either via apks or official market update)?

Without a front facing camera, facial unlocking doesn't seem practical on our device

I like the new font.
it may not seem practical with our phones, but you could always use the other camera, turn your phone facing you, and hope it recognized you.
the bricked layout is nice, its not as simple as windows phones, but its a great balance between simplicity and advanced customizability.
also i believe some apks in ics will be ported for other android versions too.

Yes, most likely through market updates. Although if your willing to try you could attempt to install the apk from the system dump. I might mess something else up though, and even if it didn't I don't think the gmail widget would work.

Edit: don't try, it won't work unless its Deodexed
I think there were a lot of decent updates but truthfully, my life is run by my calendar and I think that was a great update.. looking forward!
