Is the Netfilter enabled on our Aria? - HTC Aria General

I was doing some reading and found that if the netfilter is not enabled then we cannot dispatch an ip through our tethering apps. Is this the problem we are having? I do not know how to check for this myself other wise I would have.
I look forward to all replies.

Tethering

I searched for 'tethering' and 'tether' but didn't find it here.
Tethering allows you to use your phone as a router to access data services from laptops and other similar devices. While the speeds may not be close to broadband, with maximum connectivity with 3G webpages load quite fast.

Android ?! Moto - HTC ?
If its a free open source app and not a paid app from the market your fine run a search though for wireless tether for root users and go to the google.code and you can get the WiFi tether app

If you have root, then yes, Wireless Tether for Root Users solves that and doesn't get you charged by your carrier
I've used it extensively on Sprint, as long as you're not tethering to a lot of deivces, you're good

Tether to Zune HD

Hey,
I can't seem to get my Zune hd to jump on my Droid 2 Network, anyone knows how could i do this?
i already tried using the latest version of the Wifi tether
Thanx!
just confirming i couldn't get it to work either. I rooted my phone and that was the first thing i downloaded and was disappointed when it didn't seem like wireless tethering worked, but i tried my fathers DX and it connected to my droid 2 fine
You might try goggling "google wifi tether" and see if that application fixes it. I'm not familiar with the zune hd so I don't have any specifics.

Trust me, i used every search method available NOTHING. the only thing that would work is a tethering application capable of Infrastructure tethering
For some reason I thought it was capable of infrastructure mode. My bad.
I've heard there was a way to hack the 3G hotspot so that it doesn't charge you but I don't remember if it's been proven okay on the D2 or not.
EDIT: Now I remember where I read it. It was in the Android Development section>the sticky from Darkonion "Droid 2 Information Directory":
3G Hotspot for Droid 2
Hosted on Droid Forums, see post #4 for info.

This hack is not legal and violates your Terms Of Service from VZW (from a post in the link) But allows infrastructure mode with the existing 3G hotspot app without costing you the VZW rates!
Here's another one from the Info Dierectory that can do it without being rooted:
How to: Rootless 3G Mobile Hotspot - AP/Infrastructure Mode (by Tekahuna)
In the Droid X section, but should work for D2 as well!

Android Devices At Risk? New Exploit Found...Patch Available

Found this over at the ACS Forums and didnt see it here, so I decided to posted it.
Its definitely worth a read...
http://www.acsyndicate.net/android-at-major-risk-patch-now-fix-here/
sounds like more hokum.
Damn camel jockeys! Now im really one PISSST OFF CAMEL!
That is a "anyone who ues the internet" risk...not android. A CA basically just authenticates the site you're at...is the site you want.
For them to actually make use of this they would really need to hack your dns server or get you to click on their bad link (directing you to goooogle.com or something false).
It also says they revoked all (known) certs so a modern browser should report the certs don't match or were revoked to you.
Really if you use some common sense/are aware you should be fine.
IMHO

Put this thread in some general xda forum. If you want to support only X8 your server might be a complete fail.

Apart from making your server known you may also want to consider providing a service that is actually reliable AND available - the quoted posts above don't really spread confidence!
EDIT: A few tips from a guy who happens to know about server operation ...
What you may want to consider as well:
- Storage space! Depending on the device the ROMs not only vary in size greatly but can also be rather large (i.e. 300MB+ for the SGS GalTab.
- FAST backbone connection! If users will start using your server to have a mirror for downloads you will also have a increase of downloads and bandwidth usage. A 100MBit/s connection is the minimum, and your server should also have a sane traffic bandwidth/month (most root server come with a 1TB/month quota - and you may also find servers having 1000Mbps connection).
- Load balancing. The more users download, the more bandwidth they use up. To avoid turning into "Hotfile" (****tiest download speeds I've ever seen) you should look into configuring mod_bandwidth (that's for Apache) to balance the download speeds and maybe cap the amount of concurrent download connections so you won't turn into a hell of 4KB/s to 20KB/s download speeds.
- DOMAIN! Running on a barenaked IP address is all good and fine, but it would be easier to reg a domain and, if you keep your server running @ Port 8080, create a DNS-Redirect so the domain will point to www.yourdomain.tld:8080
In case you contemplate running this on your home computer hooked up to some DSL/Cable Internet you better forget about the idea. You most likely don't have enough upstream for downloads and your ISP will most likely get curious if you suddenly cause lots and lots of traffic on a private line.
Agreed with B.Jay.
Also yea! HOTFILE Sucks!

[Q] wifi tether?

Has anyone gotten Wifi Tether working on the Sprint version of the G2?
I just got this phone and rooted it and installed TWRP. Wifi Tether doesn't seem to work. It starts with warnings. the logs says: "Setting ad-hoc mode failed"
I've tried the latest Stable version, as well as the beta and experimental versions.
To add to the multitude of these threads that are already here, why not. I have managed to get it to not throw any errors, however it doesn't appear to broadcast its SSID. Same story with Wifi Tether Router.
Nope. There's no working way. I've been using PDANet to USB tether.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app
Are you getting data throughput? I can live with no ssid broadcast see you can just manually set an ssid. The lack of data throughput is the problem though.

No, I tried manually creating the network on my laptop and it still couldn't see it. inSSIDer on my laptop didn't see it, so it's an issue with the app to wifi chipset.
Was just about to start a thread on this and then I remembered the golden rule..

I wish others would follow suit, I think I created one of the first threads on it....and it promptly lost traction. I managed to get wifi tethering up and running for a bit using some iptables script I found in the HTC one forum, but it stopped working after a minute or two. I'm about to have to go back to our old GS3 because I live off tethering for work when I'm at client sites who don't have wifi.

Well I'm patiently waiting for something to develop. I would be willing to even donate for the cause.
The thing is do we know how Sprint does tether provision checking? I looked at the GS4 hotspot mod zip files and it looks like the services.jar file was modified to get wifi tether to work. I wonder for the Sprint LG G2 if the behavior is the same where we have to modify the "services.jar" file to get wifi tether to work.

I did exactly the same thing, ran out of time trying to figure out how to repackage the smali files or something. I found the differences between the two though.

How did you decompile the services.jar in the first place? Don't you just do the reverse to repackage it? Do you mind explaining the tools you used and the specific smali files and lines that you saw that were differences. I want to see if I can replicate this.

I just rooted my shiny-new Sprint G2, in hopes of getting tethering going, as well, but disappointed to find out we haven't got a working method for it yet. I noticed they got it working on Verizon via a custom provisioning APK over here. I'm no developer though, so will just keep my eye out for a fix, thanks.
I havent looked but I thought I heard rumblings about the sprint moto x getting tethering working. My guess is the files would be similar as tethering is a sprint thing. Maybe taking a look at what some other recent devices are doing to get thethering to work on sprint would help. Im no dev so I cant do much but its just a thought. Checking out some other recent sprint devices and their tethering issues/resolutions, if any, might help.
