About the dumbest thing you can possibly do is watch a VIDEO to find out how to use a computer.
If you can READ, which I will assume you can, since you are here, that would be the best option.
As for WHAT to read.... I suggest that the "search" button might be a good place to start.

Hi, you will first need to "root" the phone, basically the process which gives you FULL access to your device, you are then able to install a rom of your choosing. A gtood place to start is in the following article, which describes exactly the process of rooting your handset.
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
Any questions, just ask.
Does anybody know if the Google Ion version of the phone needs to be rooted? The instructions that came in the box suggest that it's possible to install new roms without any hacking because it's a device intended for developers.

Make sure you type the command exactly as written, do not mix back slash and forward slashes, and it will also be case sensitive. If your still having problems power the device down and back up to allow it to remount sd.
thanks, but same problem.
Done step 11. then reboots OK,
tried for Step 12 and keep getting "Access denied", never type anything, only "cut/paste" to avoid possible typing errors.
also tried putting into Fastboot mode (with skateboarders) , this is no use as 'device not found".
any further suggestions? or more simple step-by-step

Custom ROMs

I'm interested in installing a custom ROM on the myTouch 3G. Is the cyanogenmod 5.0.7 ROM considered the best/most stable? Is this the thread (
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking) I have to follow so I can install the ROM?
Do you have a newer MyTouch with the 3.5mm headset jack in the top or the one without it?
And as far as best... It's the most widely known of rom because of the developer and his infamous contact from Google telling him to stop. There are alot of roms by other devs who doing great jobs as well. Some phones take to roms better then others as well. Everyone has a different opinion on them.
I would personally suggest you follow the guides from http://theunlockr.com though. They come with videos and directions to make it a bit easier.

I have the newer one with the 3.5mm jack; is that version known as 1.2? Thanks for the link regarding unlocking the phone.
Yes that's the 1.2 version. You must follow the 1.2 directions or you'll brick your phone here's a link but I also suggest you check out this page that corrects a few things TheUnlockr got wrong.
is the only way to root the phone paying unlockr? also, is there a way to connect the phone to a mac, beyond just mounting the sd card?
You obviously did not look at the links I provided. They are videos and instructions to unlocking your phone on your own. No money needed. Next time you ask for help at least read the advice they give you.

Need Help Rooting, Really Confused!

Guys I have Nexus S i9020T runnig Android version 2.3.4, Baseband version I9020XXKD1, Build number GRJ22. I have looked around a lot and am confused on how to root my phone, is there any simple way of rooting my phone with super user? I run a very old PC so installing the sdk is pretty hard, so could anyone give me a step by step simple tutorial? This is my first Android phone and am a complete noob at this
Did you read the sticky yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007782
It's a step-by-step tutorial and exactly how you should do it.
The SDK shouldn't really be a strain for your PC.
Good luck,
Greetz
You don't need the entire SDK. Grab PDAnet USB divers and then choose to download just the 2.3.3 SDK and Google USB drivers from the SDK. Worked fine for me this way. You don't need all the stuff the SDK wants to install by default.

Yes that guide works regardless of what Android version you're using because Android version is not a factor. It's the bootloader.
No, it is impossible to root without the SDK because you have to unlock the bootloader using the SDK. You won't get stuck at the Google screen. People are messing up because they're unable to follow instructions.

I've helped people in this topic many times.
The easiest way I can say is to first download the Android SDK listed in that step-by-step thread. It's not that difficult and you shouldn't be scared to do it. Unless you're flashing something for another model of the phone (such as NS4G) everything should be fixable.
Download http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html to your respective OS. If its for windows, I know it says recommended for exe but I prefer using the .zip version of it. So download that first if you haven't already.

Sure, but I can't guarantee that I can respond right away. But if you're able to do it now, that would be the best and I can help you step-by-step to achieve this. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes.

If your internet is really slow and you have to download ROMs after rooting. It might be rough on your end because ROMs are at least ~80MB+

Don't know why you're downloading the JDK but okay. Extract it and rename the folder android-sdk-windows-r12 to /sdk/ and place it on the root of your C drive. So it'd be located in C:\sdk\
You need to put your phone into bootloader mode (while phone is off; VOL UP + Power) while plugged in. Do what the instructions say and set up the drivers.
The step-by-step guide is self-explanatory. I don't really want to paraphrase what the guide says because it's pretty simple. Follow the guide you linked earlier and tell me if you experience any problems or have problems understanding what is being asked.
Edit: In part 2, where it says:
switch to the directory where you downloaded & unzipped the ..\android-sdk-windows\tools

It'll be cd C:\sdk\tools\
(I rename it to sdk because its easier to type than android-sdk-windows-
Edit 2: In part 2 where it tells you to get clockwork 3.0.0.5, disregard that
download: http://www.mediafire.com/?y3is5c9n5fi1sd6 instead
when you finish downloading it, place it in C:\sdk\tools\
and type:

[Q] I9505 hard bricked QHSUSB_DLOAD

Hello i'v got a free s4 which was not working. I'v connected it with pc and got QHSUSB_DLOAD detected installed drivers and now i can see the device using QPST. Is there anyway that i can unbrick this without JTAG? I saw the thread which can solve the problems but its old and the links are broken.. Any ideas? Thanks for your help...
I think you have a dead boot. It can be fixed since the PC recognizes it, but I don't know if it is possible without pro tools.
