Program to convert .mkv files - HD2 General

Hi!
Can anyone recommend a program which can convert .mkv-files to a resolution of 800x480, or the most suitable resolution for HD2?
And which format should I use for best playback?

Converting Video

Hi,
I'm due to receive my HTC Touch HD tomorrow. Are there any specific video encoders for Mac that will convert a TV series I have on DVD to a format playable on the phone? I have seen the Windows software: MP4ForHD.
If there isn't, what are the best settings for me to use to burn this DVD? I want the best resolution possible to show off the screen, and I'm not too bothered about the space it takes up. Also, I've heard that the phone can't deal with bitrates above 1.2MB/s: is this true?
Thanks in advance.
handbrake convert to a lot of things
give it a go
Yeah, I've got Handbrake. What settings should I use though? I presume Xvid, but do I need to alter the resolution?

Where to buy films OR how to convert dvd's for Blackstone?

Hi, been looking into how to convert my current DVDs @ home into a format and size for my blackstone... Does anyone have any suggestions for easy programes to do this???
OR
Anyonw know where to download films (don't mind renting or paying) for the blackstone?
I'm happy with XMedia Recode.
Site is in German, but software supports English.
A search on xda for 'HD video converter' will get you what you're looking for. Also, SUPER is an excellent free program that will convert pretty much anything into anything.
Its probably easiest to do this in 2 stages.
1 convert your DVD to a .avi with something like Fair Use Wizard
2 Convert the avi to mp4 and AAC in the correct resolution with Encoder for the touch HD.
You could do it in one stage, but its less simple.

rip your DVD for your A7

I have done many experiments to rip DVD to mp4, and finally I found out a workable method.
1. you have to rip the entire DVD into hard drive first (dvd decrypter, dvdshrink, etc)
2. download mpeg streamclip and quicktime (or alternative) and install
3. open DVD from your hard drive (ripped)
4. export to mp4
settings:
1. resolution
for 4:3 videos, use 640x480 (480p)
for 16:9 videos, use 854x480 or 800x450 (480p)
2. quality
you must consider the single file size, FAT32 is unable to take 2GB or higher single file, so you have to think about that (5-7 is fine, more resolution won't help as most of DVD utilized 480p).
3. video encoding
use H.264
4. leave all the rest untouched
5. the export may take a few hours depends on your CPU
6. copy the file to USB (or microSD) and enjoy

[Q] Need to change video recording format

Hello!
I have a rooted Nexus 7 device and able to record 720p video with help from this forum. The videos get saved in 3gp format. Is there an way to change the save format type by modifying the media_profiles.xml file or other means?
I want to try to save the video in uncompressed avi or other formats. I understand 3gp is a container for MP4 with H.264 codec
thanks!
