Stickey - Imagio General

It would be helpful if someone who has a lot of knowledge about HTC phones could post a stickey with hints etc.Obviously run thru admin.I am new to WM and it would help me if there were some tweaks we could use to get our Imagio up to speed.I like the phone a lot,yes there are some issues but not deal breakers.I have an itouch and the virtual keyboards aren't much different.

You just have to put a minimal amount of effort into searching

That is the point of a stickey. It saves one trying to search all over the site and possibly missing something important.

Wiki time...

Ok people. The Wiki hasn't been updated and we can't be too harsh on people looking for answers. Here is a beautiful tool that via collaboration will encompass a large part of the knowledge we all have.
Let's get together and get it updated. We don't want the Athena wiki, the wiki for the most expensive and versatile and powerful device, to look like crap or empty. Doesn't make members of the Athena group look too organized and I personally don't like that.
This said, we need to start moving forward. There is too much knowledge to not capture it in a central place and share it with others. We should get on this now.
I know we all have jobs and other obligations so it's best if we work in shifts. We're going to need to coordinate the effort and work with moderators, etc.
Once the Wiki is updated, we'll refer newbies there first, then ask them to learn to search then try to help if all else fails. We need to combine our efforts and strengths and stop looking like a bunch of unorganized chimps.
Who's in? What moderator will lead? We really need to tidy up our house people. It's a mess.
PS: I would like to get this all done before I get my HTC Shift people!
no?
So no one is interested in getting this going huh. Cool.
Don't complain then.

Sorry - been busy. I'm in. There must be others too?
OK, I spent some time updating the Q&A page. This could use some organization, but at least there is some usable information there.
We need to think about the questions that get asked again and again, and make sure they are added in, so we can then smugly tell them to read the Wiki and know their question will be answered if they take the time to read.

Programs you use

Hey everyone - now that many people are getting the HD (through the post, shop, stealing, whatever) I was wondering what programs that people are using.
If possible, please also state what the app does. eg;
Coreplayer - multiple-format video player.
Also, please post in Beards' topic with version numbers, screen resolutions, etc!

Yes there are. And if you take a little look around the forum you'll even find a thread dedicated to exactly that...
I looked through 3 pages fof topics... Though it's nice to see you post in all duplicated topics...

That tells us what programs work, not what the programs do and why people use them.
Different topics IMO. I'm interested in this thread.
Thank you for correcting my error constructivly, Beards. I don't venture out of BLACKSTONE or ELF, really. Will do, now.

The opening question clearly states:- "Ones that work well with the HD, that is."
What we don't want to end up having is two topics with members posting what works in this topic but not in the other ~ which after all is what the other topic is all about.

Your topic, as useful as it is for the elite, is also a big tease.
For example, I don't know what gsen is but I imagine i might want it! I guess I'll have to google.

Jon,
All you need do is go to the topic and ask......
Yes, the topic does list software titles working/not working but there's nothing wrong is posting anything specific about a specified program.
In fact I personally would recommend it.... The more information available is so much better.

This all stems from the fact software is a total mess on windows mobile - even looking at the biggest sites like clickgamer and handandgo none of them have support for the HD yet. As soon as microsoft bring out their software store the better - that's one thing apple got very very right with the iphone.

Couldn't agree more Jonathan.
At the moment it's a total minefield in ascertaining what does and does not work.

There, edited the first post. People can post in both topics. I think it would be interesting to see how many people, for example, used LunarTilt or that iPhone GUI - Beards, with your topic, if someone sees Coreplayer 2.5, they may not bother to list any other interesting apps they use.
Thanks for the link Acelister.
If I find anything of interst applicable for this topic I'll pass it back on to you.

one major problem and handicap windows mobile will have over the iphone.
The mobile osx is only one device (iphone), so it is a lot easier for developers to create and optimise software for the device, as for wm the developers have to think about the many different devices, thus full optimisation isnt really possible, that is why not all programs will run on all devices.
cor blimey - didn't mean to start anything off here, sorry!
The thread of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442663 is fantastic, and very much appreciated.
If I ever catch up with you guys who have been playing with WM for years, and come across an unlisted app that works, please be assured that I will add to it
However - as a noob, short of Googling each and every one of them to find out what they do (ok, some are pretty obvious!), I have no idea which fall into the categories of "kinda vital" through to "dead useful if you want to do something dead specific".
What I was really hoping for in this thread (and I guess supersquash in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446128 and Philo25 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445543) was a sort of 'starter for 10'.
Looks like between the various posts we're getting there though, so MANY thanks to everyone
Well I've never really gone out of my way to install anything on my Touch Elf, so this was pretty new to me too. I've been getting the hang of it though.
I've installed:
Advanced Config (changes various hidden options),
Capsure (screen capture utility),
Coreplayer (video player),
Klaxon (alarm),
Total commander (better than File Manager),
SPB Mobile Shell (makes the Today screen look completely different),
iFonz (makes the Today screen look like the iPhone).
Those are all easily found using Google.
Nice one Sir - good to see there's a few of us in the same boat!
sounds like a good starter list - now I just need to start Googling where to get these from...
LOL - wife's gonna love me for the next few weeks...
I'd best start earning some brownie points fast before the HD actually arrives

I hear that... "You've not stopped playing with that since you got it!"
I'm supposed to be spending time right now trying to get hold of a Nokia 7510 (yes, I know, but she likes it!) - and instead I'm on here downloading stuff for a handset that hasn't even arrived yet LOL
(shhhhh please )

anddroid on HD2. is it Possaoble?

I had my hd2 for 2 months and i love it. But, im getting very disappointed that it's lacking in apps and community support unlike the andriod and iphone os. I see poplur apps that are available for android and iphone but not wm. i am starting to wish i never got the hd2 and really wish i knew about the evo thats coming out soon.
on top of that i see the phone on ebay has really dropped in price to about £270 ($411)
so is it possible to put android on hd2?
Wow
Before you get blasted for making a post and not searching let me give you some advice, Search! There are a LOT of threads about Android on HD2, it's not there yet but it is being worked on. Really, type Android in the search bar and you will see all the threads asking the same thing, good luck

If you used the search functions (like most people) you would find your answer.
If you did this simple thing you would find that at this time, its not yet possible, HTC have the best group of developers on it but are having some trouble with the porting or something.
I'm just a few days away from being able to use my HD2 as a micro-oven

I bet your cooked ROMs will taste delightful!
Off: I succeeded in using my HD2 as a condom yesterday! Took me ages to port every bit of information...
On: Let's assume you haven't read the forum rules, thus you wouldn't know about the built in Search function. There`s Google. Why not Google for something (such as "android on hd2")? After all, it`s much easier to type and to read than typing a long post on a board where you need an account and where you need to wait for others to answer your question...
At least he searched the price of the HD2 on ebay...
i bet you guyz are unfriendly , help him if not *********** ,......,
anyway its still under development and needs some time i can say its 40 % to its full

It also really surprised me to see the price of HD2 drop down so quickly. Maybe mostly because not so many people can get on well with HD2, which is the best phone I've ever bought.
Easy on the flaming guys. Im sure he understands now. For all u know, u might just drive someone away from xda with negative thoughts......where as this is one of the most helpful community.
Like yourself I'm a new HD2 owner. I can understand why you might think there's a lack of apps for our device, when devices like the iPhone have 160,000+ apps. However I've found four different GPS nav apps out there (Igo, CoPilot, TomTom and Garmin), an app to make a flashlight out of your camera LEDs, a registry editor, a voice-dialler, a metal detector, a decent file explorer, a media player etc etc etc. The question needs to be asked, how many media players / file explorers / gps apps do you need on your device? For me, one of each is more than enough. Many of the iPhone apps are just double-ups of the same functionality.
After getting my phone I spent the next week on XDA searching for apps, themes, tweaks and games, trying them out and working out what works and what doesnt.
My HD2 is now running and looking mint, and I've got more games than I know what to do with. As the others in this thread have already pointed out, you do need to take the time and use the search function.
As for support, you couldn't be more wrong - it was the emmense wealth of knowledge of XDA-developers that gave me the confidence to buy the HD2. It will take you time to find the info you're looking for in these forums, but the answers are there, and you'll end up with a superior phone to the iPhone if you're prepared to give it a chance.
Drop me an email on [email protected] if you'd like to know where to find the bits you're after.
Not only he did not serch .. but hes speling sux too. !
This is one of the funniest Android response threads that I've read lmao. At least the repsonses were good natured and not hateful like some other threads have been. And I hope the OP didn't get scared away, he should think of it as his initiation. And Im sure a lot of Senior users had at least one noobie moment in the beginning.
When I had my Shadow/Juno and started modding my first post was "where is the windows folder"

[Q] Need help developing!!!

To answer the question that everyone is thinking as they click on this thread... Yes, I am a noob.
Anyway, I downloaded the Android Kitchen and installed it on a Linux Ubuntu Virtual Machine on my Macbook using VMWare Fusion and i watched a video from theunlockr, but all it really let me do was add in apps, change the rom name and give it a few features but no visual customizations... If i posted a link of the "My ROM" no one would be able to tell a difference in the rom i planned on starting from.
Let me know if there is a different way to create that is actually making ROMs or customizing the ROM in it's entirety instead of small unnoticeable features, let me know if I'm just doing something wrong in my Android Kitchen and let me know if theres an easy way to develop ROMs on Mac without Virtual Machines. (The last one isn't a big worry because linux is very lightweight and runs fine on my computer but please help me on the other two questions)
Thanks in advance,
Adam Ferguson
Welcome Adam.
There's a lot going on in this little phones. It takes time to learn, and you'll probably never learn it all. (But don't let that stop you from trying. It is interesting and geeky fun.) So, I would start reading if you really want to learn. Here's a few links to get you started.

Also, I'd read some similar posts in this forum --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=613
This same question has been asked a lot in there.
Thanks for the info, I would really like to get into developing.
I also noticed you live in raleigh and thought it was quite a coincidence because in like about an hour from you in Winston Salem, just saying.

I've bounced between Asheville, Raleigh, and Gastonia... So, I've been through WS several hundred times at least. NC is the place to be. (At least that's what the imports from NY, NJ, PA, etc. tell me.
