HTC X7500 - can't connect to two GPS antenna for topographic relief - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Hello, my name is Manolo and i'm a surveyor. I'm trying to use my HTC X7500 as a data controller for topographic relief. I own two Topcon hiper pro gps antennas than can communicate with a controller via bluetooth or RS232 cable.
My problem is that when i connect via bluetooth the athena x7500 to the gps antennas, it can see both of them, but it can't hold always the to connections separate at the same time. 99,9% of times i belive the athena connected first to one gps antenna and second to the other one, but at the end i understand it gets the signal only from one. So, to bypass the problem i tryied to connect the athena to one gps via rs232+usb adapter and the other one via bluetooth, but i can't get the rs232 connection. It seems that only Hp ipaq hx series can handle the rs232 connections.
Any suggestions?
Any software that manage bluetooth connections?

Thanks,
Manolo

I don't know if this is relevent, but here is a hint...
When I used to have a bluetooth gps antenna, I had to set up an outgoing com port dedicated to this antenna.
Have you created two different outgoing ports in the bluetooth options, one for each antenna ?

The guy on this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=515103 - found a usb-to-serial solution for his problem. Maybe he could help you. He also mentions some sort of hardware/driver he's used.
Hope this helps.

Thank you MysterD for answering.
Yes, i tryed to give a different COM to gps antennas, but with no success.
For working with this GPS antennas Topcon gives you also a PPC/Controller (named FC 100), with the antennas. So, HTC 7500 should be an emergency controller that i bought when the original controller got broken and i sent it to the assistance.
So, i checked the Software settings on the original Controller, and it connects on the antennas via bluetooth always on COM8. Yes, same port for both the antennas!
Infact, when i start the software:
1) it scans for bluetooth devices
2) i select the first antenna (a base antenna that i live in a point and don't move it)
3) it disconnect from the first antenna
4) it scans again for bluetooth devices
5) i select the second antenna (rover antenna, that i bring with me during the mesuraments)
6) the software goes into a mesurament menu and o start working.
On the HTC i must search the devices first and than start the software. That's the problem! If i give the same COM8 at both bluetooth devices at the same time, HTC gets confused.

Thank you Wovens.
I'm gonna try the drivers. Let's see if they work!

And there's no place in your software that would enable setting that first antenna should use port COMX and the second one COMY ?
Also, have you tried disabling the feature that lets Windows Mobile manage the GPS ?
On my Diamond, i go to Start > Settings > System > External GPS ("GPS Externe" on my French rom) > Access tab ("Accès", the third tab...) > Uncheck the only option on the tab (manage GPS automatically "Gérer GPS automatiquement" ...).

Yep, i think i already tried, but i'll try again and let you know it tomorrow.
Thanks

Okay,
assigning different ports to bluetooth devices seems working. But there is always something wrong: i can't start mesuring when i get into the mesure page. i don't know, i'll try to figure it out. Thanks anyway.
To connect the cable to the athena i probably need a driver for windows mobile. I'll try to find it.
Thank you very much guys,
Manolo

You're welcome.
Let us know if you succeed in getting your measures done !

Bluetooth sync not working!!!

:x i have been trying to get the bluetooth sync to work to no avail. i am using a 3com bluetooth usb adapter on my pc and card on my notebook. i am having problems with both when i try to synchronise. i can see my i-mate has been discovered and bonded; i can send files too. but i cannot synchronise. either there is a bug in the PDA software, or its really hard (needs a rocket scientist) to use!!! either way its dissappointing. can anyone help?
by the way my nokia and ericsson phones sync fine with my current setup.
I have the same problem using a toshiba portege 4010 with bluetooth built in, it works with my Nokia but not with the XDA i am using aytivesync 3.7.1
I would also like some help or ideas please
Thanks
John
Got bluetooth to work once
I got bluetooth to work only once using a Billionton USB Bluetooth adapter. The software is neat, but requires so much messing around with to get the PDA to actually synchronise in bluetooth mode. Unfortunately, I could not get it to work again. Should have documented what I did the first time.
After trying lots of times, it works. I sycronised a XDA2 in bluetooth mode.
There are a few important things
1. You first have to sychronise the XDA2 in USB Cradle to build a standard-partnership between desktop pc and XDA2.
2.remove the XDA2 from the Cradle.
3.look which com-port your bluetooth serial port is using
4.take these settings over to the active sync settings (must be exactly the same com port)
5. pair the two devices
6.start active sync on the XDA2 and sychronise via bluetooth
It works.....
i made a better description with screenshots (in german) but i don't know how to post it.
I use a toshiba laptop with bluetooth built in, but when i scan the available bluetooth things in the XDA 2 it only finds "voice gateway" and "SSA" or something like that, there is no serial port listed, when i scan a phone (nokia) it finds "dun" "serial port" "fax" etc etc.
So i cant connect my XDA2 as the only profiles it seems to have are Voice gateway and some SSA thing, so as there is no serial port listed i cant use activesync, i have bonded with both the voice and SSA thing to com ports from 5 to 9 and get a connection, but as its not a serial port it will not work with activesync.
Sorry for my terrible description of the problem, but if yours works i am sur e it will make sence to you
Thanks
John
Your right ! The XDA2 provides no serial port profile to my Bluetooth stick too. And thats why the Bluetooth GPS Receiver doesn't work.
I know this sounds strange, but with Active Sync Bluetooth definitely works.
Yes I finally got it to work a couple of days ago with a certain type of bluetooth usb adapter and software. All I can say, is that bluetooth is not very user friendly!!!! Activesync should have it show up just as it shows "infrared" in the connection settings. This will make it very easy to select it. In this day and age, you cannot expect a technology to be successful from mass usage if it is not totally idiot proof. BLUETOOTH is not.... WIFI will rule!!!!
Hi so have you bonded to the "ssa" profile, and then what ever com port you used you then changed activesync to use this port and it then works, because i tried this and it done not work.
I also have a tomtom bluetooth that a friend is borrowing, but by the looks of it there is no point in getting it back as if there is no serial port on the available using bluetooth that will not work either
Thanks
John
try this link. it may help u set up your bluetooth with active sync - http://www.bluetoothnews.com/features/ActiveSync.htm
@applecom
No. You just have to pair the Devices. Don't connect to any Profile.
Pair them and then start Active Sync from the XDA 2 and connect with bluetooth.
activesync and bluetooth with xda II
start > settings > system > bluetooth settings > Activesync over blutooth (START)
Nutty but there you go.
XDA II Bluetooth ActiveSync
I noted if you add or change the registry will work even better :
\HLKM\SOFT\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Activesync
IsBTASsetup from 0 to 1
Hi
I have changed the registry like you said, But how dose it work better, the only problems i have are when i ask activesync on the XDA to connect over BT it oftern trys and says port in use, i just retry a few times and it works. After doing the reg edit it did connect first time, but is this what you ment by "its works better"
Thanks
John
As this my first ever post, I don't want to come over as smug, but I took delivery of my XDA 2 today and it synced using bluetooth after about 25 minutes of 'messing'!
All I did was delete all the bonding between the PC and the XDA and told it to sync via bluetooth, initiating from the XDA, I thought that it had failed...but then the XDA sprang to life and 'Bob was my uncle'!!
Very impressed with my XDA 2, having used an XDA for about 8 months.
Andy.
Bluetooth Sync
What I meant was it has become easier to get XDA II sync via bluetooth. Please note that you have to unpair your PC first then change the registry and pair again. If your PC's Bluetooth dongle support Headset profile ( I used anycom USB220 which has this profile) you will see your XDA II asking you if you want Headset profile added and Activesync screen for bluetooth appeared as well. Changing the registry will always make the sync work is what i noted. Seems like XDA II Bluetooth supports many profile just that dont know how to make it works.
Bluetooth Activesync problems
I'm on the verge of giving up on this! Think I should stick to USB sync...here goes...
I've tried the tricks mentioned in the forum to try to get my XDA II to sync via bluetooth with my Sony VAIO laptop (it has built-in bluetooth). I can get the two devices to bond (I enter the PIN number on both the laptop and XDA and it succeeds) but then I try to run the Bluetooth Activesync setup (in Settings-->Bluetooth Settings on the XDA) I get an error message every time that says "Please bond with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port or Activesync profile as your Activesync partner!"
I thought I already HAD bonded the devices? Any ideas?
Cheers
Carlton
Finally sorted it out. Delete the partnership that you already have. Start from start>settings>system>Bluetooth Settings. When you clik start, then pair your device again. After the pairing, you will get the message that Bluetooth Active Sync is now ready.
Still no joy
Thanks for your help Merc.
I tried doing exactly what you suggested but still doesn't work. This is what happens:
I deleted the existing bond on both XDA II and PC.
I went to start>settings>system>Bluetooth Settings and clicked on Start. This gave me the message "Please bond with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port or Activesync profile as your Activesync partner!" like before, then automatically opened the Bluetooth connections control panel in the "Mode" pane. I chose 'Discoverable' and clicked OK. I then went to my PC and used the Wireless Link control panel and clicked 'Add' (to run Bluetooth connection wizard) which searched for devices. It found my XDA II and I entered the passkey on both XDAII and PC (same passkey on each).
The Bluetooth connection wizard then told me that the XDAII was offering DUN (dial up networking) services. I selected this and then clicked next. Was I supposed to select this (actually, it made no difference when I tried again without selecting!).
The wizard completed and both the PC and XDAII notified me that the bond was successful. I then waited and waited for something else to 'happen' (like a message to say that Bluetooth Active Sync is now ready.) but nothing happened. I gave it a couple of minutes.
I went to Activesync on the XDA and tried the 'connct with Bluetooth' just in case it had worked, but nothing happened. I went to Activesync on the PC and tried using a different COM port for infrared/serial links (as I assume this is what bluetooth uses) but no joy. I only had COM3 and COM4 showing in the connection settings in activesync, which surprised me as I thought there would be more.
That's it. I tried 3 times but still no luck. Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Carlton
The
Your procedure is just like mine. But I used "On" and discovered the PC from the PDA. Do not use "Discoverable". Let me hear if you have any luck
The only way I have got it to work is assigning the bluetooth serial port to COM 6. Then set Activesync on the desktop to COM 6.
Any other COM port just won't work. Anybody else got it working on a different bluetooth COM port?

it's arrived!

just a quick first impression's (will do more this evening)
i have large hands and this fells better to hold
the on/off is on top instead of the side (better i think)
when first started you are asked your phone provider, and cab files are install for there settings. (great)
also did not have to hit cross hair in middle twice, ( as was mensioned as bug in another message
got mine today also.
thought it was slightly fatter than i was expecting. but i had never seen a jam before having had a M1000/himalaya and being used to the relatively thinness of that.
half tempted to hard reset and not install the AV crap that gets installed as apparently that slows it down (also 20mb ram being used when nothing is apparently running) not sure why we got AV software when its invisable to the user and it isnt updated.
more from me later too
just need a cheap bluetooth gps and a 1gb mem card.... anyone know best place to buy (cheap)?
Pray tell more about the AV stuff. What exactly?
No AV on Mine ??
av stuff?
not sure what you mean? :?:
Antivirus.
Trend AV is installed when you first boot or when you hard reset. For some reason any trace of it running or being installed. but apparently it causes some slowdown
some more on it

whilst here like the hard reset. it's great
Congrats!!! Aliendad and thefunkygibbon on your new acquisition. May you enjoy your new toy in good health.
Please do comment on the speed of this unit as much has been said regarding the 195MHz processor. Specially if you run some processor intensive applications such as Planmaker or TextMaker.
Would love to more on your experiences.

Q: How do I use my device as a Satellite Navigation receiver?
Please follow these steps.
1. Switch on your Bluetooth GPS receiver, making sure that it is within your K-JAM range (<10m). Please confirm that your GPS receiver has sufficient battery and it is ready to bond. Also make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your K-JAM (Start > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > Mode > Turn on Bluetooth).
2. Setup a partnership bond with the device. To do that, select Start > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > Devices on your K-JAM and click on New Partnership. After a few seconds the list of discoverable Bluetooth devices will be displayed. Your GPS receiver should be listed there. If not please check step 1.
3. Select your GPS receiver from the list and click Next. You will be prompted to enter the predefined Bluetooth passkey used by your device (typically 0000 but it could be a different code so please confirm with your GPS receiver documentation).
4. The Partnership Settings menu will be presented to you. A "Serial Port" or "GPS" service should be offered by the GPS receiver. Please mark the relevant checkbox and click Finish.
5. At this point you will have to associate and Outgoing Port to that device. On your K-JAM go to Start> Settings > Connections >Bluetooth > COM ports and select "New Outgoing Port". Your GPS device should be listed in the device list. Select it and click Next. Then select any of the COM ports not yet reserved by your device (your K-JAM normally reserves some of these ports for infrared or serial communications). One by one Select each possible COM port (clicking Finish) until the system accepts the selection (typically COM4 and COM8 are available for the user).
6. At this point the GPS device is ready for usage. You can now open any Navigation tool that you may have installed on your device and follow the GPS setup procedure specified in the application user manual (typically it involves defining the COM number assigned in step 5 as the GPS communication port).
cant test myself as i dont have one yet. let me know how you get on as i need one asap.

XDA - Tomtom 6 - non-bluetooth GPS error

Hi
I have read through literally hunderds of pages of GPS stuff to do with mini. I have read some things that are true and some that aren't and am now confused.
I installed Tomtom 5.0 onto my Mini S. It went on fine. Maps installed fine. I went into 'satellites - configure' part and couldn't find my GPS on any of the settings. I am almost sure my GPS receiver isn't bluetooth. I know the baud should be 4800, but otherwise I am not sure. My dad has the same recieve but uses his with an IPAQ and it worked first time. I have tried my receiver with his ipaq and the receiver works fine so that eliminates that posibility.
Here is my receiver and the blurb that comes with it.
http://www.evermoregps.ca/
GM-R700 GPS receiver
(third one down.)
The mouse-shape GPS receiver is design for PC and PDA applications. With WAAS/EGNOS channels, EverMore can give you more accurate direction and position. Compact Flash module is also available now.
I selected 'Other NMEA GPS receiver' and tried all of those. Then went through the bluetooth equivelent just in case. None of them pick my receiver up.
I then read somewhere that version 6 of Tomtom wouldn't work on my XDA mini. I downloaded 5.2 and tried it with that. I had read that this allowed 'port 7' to work. I couldn't get my map to work with 5.2 even though I spent ages on it. Eventually I tried Tomtom 6.0. As I mentioned earlier, someone had said that it wouldn't work on an XDA, but this is false as I got it working straight away. The map also installed fine and once I activated it things seemed ok. I presumed that the port 7 would now come as an option. It didn't. I am still at the same place. I believe that the port 7 thing may be a bluetooth only thing but I am not sure. I am not great at GPSbut know my way around an IPAQ pretty well. I am new to my phone so chances are there is some gateway or something that I haven't enabled etc, but I am at the end of what I know.
If anyone can help me out at all I would be eternally greatful. So far I have spent a good 20 hours getting the bloody thing working and I am about to lose the will to live.
I have used the search option on the site, but it seems everyone has BT GPS, and none of the posts seem relevant to my problem. If I have missed a post then I am sorry, but there are a fair few posts on the site now.
Thanks in advance,
Woody.

Do I have to do this even though it isn't a bluetooth device?
Even when I enabled com 7 on bluetooth settings, comm 7 didn't appear on 'Select your GPS receiver' on Tomtom.
I will try it anyway, and thanks for the speedy response.
sorry
i have give you wrong advice i thought gps recever wash bluetooth you should try going into on your phone settings, connections ,beam ,and un tick receive all in coming beams as these frees up the com port 7 on xda1.YOU WILL HAVE TO RECONFIGURE SETTINGS IN TOMTOM GPS STATUS FOR WIRED GPS RECEVER. SORRY FOR LAST POST HOPE THIS HELPS ps i got gps recever recever off ebay was meant to work on my xda1 but did not it was for ipaq the connector was the same but wiring was wrong hope this helps
Woody, first of all I couldn't understand that which GPS device have you got as you have mentioned 3rd down on that webpage, anyway I have the attached the picture of one of the device named "GM-R700", if this is the right device which you have then this is a serial cabled GPS device which connect to the device via cradle, not via Bluetooth, if I am right then bluetooth chapter is closed, we are going to talk about the cable GPS device.
If it is the right device then how are you connecting the GPS device to the XDA, does the GPS device came with the cradle and the car charger? (it must be).
Find the attached word file for a sequential instructions, I have just made it for you and others who are still stuck to make their TomTom work.
GoodLuck & let me know.
Sidd
Sidd, your attached documents refuse to open!, I am not too sure that you can connect a wired GPS to this type of phone, it simply won't work, the only option is Bluetooth for the Wizzard. In the case of the IIi and IIs phones they had a true serial port that could be used - Mike
Try these attached files as I have zipped them on a normal compression.
I think ""GuinUK (1st post)"" hasn't mention his/her device, but the GPS he/she mentioned is a serial device.
Sidd
I am pretty sure it is a Mini S he is trying to get to work with the cabled GPS receiver, it simply will not work - the device doesn't have a serial port to connect equipment like this to. The Mini S is Bluetooth only for GPS AFAIK - Mike

Thanks for your reply. This is indeed the right GPS. Sorry for any confusion there. I am about to try what you have written. I have indeed got a cradle, and a converter which makes my Ps2 GPS fit into the socket.
I will get back to you with how I got on.
Thanks again for the help, at least I know for sure it isn't BT before I start.

OK I got the download working from Sidd, thanks. I ran through all the steps you had mentioned. The problem I had is that I don't get the option of 'serial cable blah blah', mine just says 'Serial port'.
My phone is a Mini S. Perhaps this is the reason why. My friend has a bluetooth model, and I got that working fine so I guess if this last attempt doesn't work I will just buy another GPS. It isn't like they are expensive in truth.
Thanks everyone for the help, and sorry for my delay in posting but it being Xmas and all.

If u r going for a bluetooth gps device then keep one thing in mind that u might find difficulty in searching of the proper bluetooth com port. Soltution is to download the TomTom version 5.2 prior to connect ur device.
GoodLuck & let me know

Fantastic post
Thanks Sidd, your word doc (Serial COM Port setting to setup TomTom.doc) worked a treat, two mins and I'm up and running. I'm using spv m1500 (same as xda 2) with a cheap unbranded cabled gps unit i got from fleabay and TomTom 5.2. Thanks again.
Can I re-iterate for the benefit of others reading this post, the newer XDA device (equipped with a mini USB connection point) cannot be used with a wired GPS unit, this includes the Mini-S, Exec, Orbit etc. The older devices IIs, IIi etc all require the Receive all beams to be turned of to free up the serial port for use by the wired GPS.
If your device has a mini USB connector your only option is Bluetooth for GPS - Mike

No problem Doc114 my pleasure, any way I am also going to upload something new on the FTP (check in: ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Software/) with another brief instruction manual, enjoy the new one, you know what I mean (My name would be included in the file name, so you can recognise it easily).
I will also make one illustrated instruction for a bluetooth GPS setting whenever got a device.

Bluetooth GPS want to re-pair all the time

Hi folks,
I upgraded my Hermes with Schap's Windows Mobile 6 ROM. Works fine so far. But when I try to use my Bluetooth GPS it acts strange.
I paired the Bluetooth device and set up a COM-port for the applications. The first time it works. The next time, when I switch on Bluetooth and start for example TomTom, the Hermes tells me there is a new Bluetooth device that wants to connect. I checked and found out the GPS is still in the list of known Bluetooth devices and the COM-port is set. But the assistant is still bugging until I add the "new" device. After that of course my "old" device is gone.
How can I avoid this? Anyone experiencing the same problem?
I have the same issue, really annoying so would love to know the answer

On your Hermes:
Have you tried to checked off: "Make this device visible to other devices"?
Under: Start\Settings\Connections\Bluetooth\Mode (2nd tab on the bottom)
Option #1 (Hermes)
~If, "Make this device visible to other devices is not enabled, delete the pairing for your GPS.
~Check off "Make this device visible to other devices"
~Pair your GPS again (ensure that "Make this device visible to other devices" is still enabled)
Option #2 (GPS)
Don't know what kind of settings for bluetooth you may have on your GPS. I found for my car stereo, that I needed to leave it, in the "waiting/open for connection mode.
Now when I turn the car on it automatically connects the phone and stereo off my Hermes.
What I'm basically saying here is there may be a setting to leave your GPS automatically open for bluetooth connections?
I think option #1 may do the trick....
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

If your concerned about Security you can always change the Pairing codes.
and or turn off bluetooth when not needed.
I'm unaware of any cases where one can connect unless there paired, so in most cases access needs to be allowed on both ends, usually needing pairing codes. Even if it is one way, an approval code will still be needed.
What I found is this, if you want automatic connecting with one way pairing codes i.e. (Car Stereo to PDA or GPS to PDA) You'll need to allow "make device visible" checked off. The usual cause is a memory storing issue with the GPS or Car Stereo. I know that on high end Stereo's and GPS's they have on board memory which will save connection settings, where you'd put pairing codes on both ends and it will save the settings, thus negating the need to leave visible.
Don't know if I answered your question?
Hope I was able to shed some light on the subject....
Good Luck!

GPS on iPad Wifi with an HD2 and GPS2Blue?

Hi,
I just bought an iPad wifi (the version without GPS).
Now I'm trying to get the GPS to work using BTStack GPS on the iPad and GPS2Blue on my HD2.
I can get the iPad to connect to my HD2, however there arent any information transfered to the ipad. It just says connected, but without any satelite information.
Now the app on the iPad works fine with a regular bluetooth gps dongle. So I'm thinking that there is something I've missed in the settings in GPS2Blue.
Has anyone tried anything like this before?
I'm using gps2blue version 2.0, with the gps on com4 and bluetooth on com6.
Any help is really appriciated.
/Erik
Hello,
I had the same issues trying to figure out how to get gps2blue to work. I finally got it to work by changing a particular setting. Here are the steps:
1) Go to Settings > All Settings
2) Go to Bluetooth
3) Tap on Discoverable (right above "Advanced")
4) Make sure that the it's set to "Always Visible"
5) Under the "Advanced" section, click on "Serial Ports". You should see that COM1 is set to the incoming port. This is the port we should use in the GPS2blue settings for the bluetooth.
I configured gps2blue like this:
GPS: COM4
Speed: 4800
BT: COM1
Hit the "On" button and you will might still see an error. This is ok, try your iPad or your bluetooth device and you should see your HD2/LEO. Select it and it should prompt you to create a passkey. Just use 0000 and the prompt will appear on your iPad.
I hope this helps. For some reason the "Discoverable" section didn't appear for me (or I didn't notice it) until I did this:
1) Turn off bluetooth
2) Restart device
3) Turn on bluetooth using the settings in settings>allsettings>bluetooth (the bluetooth icon looks different at the top of the device now too).
-leonowski
Is this also applicable on the HTC Diamond?
I have bought one from everbuying.com last month .There is no problem with it all the time.
