World of Warcraft. - Shift General

I'm just curious to know whether people have run WOW on the shift yet? I understand that it'd be small... and not very high res. But my question is whether it'd be playable. I read a review for it, and it was mentioned, although to no detail whatsoever.
Another question is, how much of a difference is there in speed between xp, vista, and win7 on the shift?
I'm picking one up this week (to go along with my Touch HD) because I need a different kind of gadgetting experience (more stuff to do).
Thanks to any and all who give me feedback on these questions.
Caid.

You just remind me I needed update my thread about benchmarks.. anyway..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494548

Cool.
Neat little benchmark you did there. I'm still curious to know how WOW runs, however. And I'd like a real performance difference test between the OS'.
Again, thanks for your reply.

WOW is playable but choppy. When theres a lot of movement going on it really gets choppy. Whenever I point the camera angle down where Im looking at the ground, movement gets a little better. If you plan on doing raids, it's not playable. Quests can be played with the help of tomtom, questhelper and hotkeys. But if you happen to live in the auction house, you can check up on your auctions 24~7.
Hope this helps... I haven't played WOW in 2 months since I got my shift. =P

Thanks!
I went through the painful process of copying wow from my computer to my shift. I played it for a few minutes, but I was unable to type /g to talk to my guild mates, as there's no / key. Any idea how to do that? The 7 key looks to alternately be the / key, but no button combination was able to make it come out.
Grrr.
I'm going to try playing again when I've got win 7 on there, perhaps I'll get a few more frames per second... We'll see.
Thanks for the reply and info, by the way.
Caid.

No go...
I got win 7 all loaded up and attempted to run wow a few times, but each time I got a nasty bsod. I'm not sure what exactly the problem is, but It's a bit disheartening. I was really looking forward to running win7 on the shift, but playing wow on it is more important to me, so I guess it's back to XP for me (as opposed to vista, only for speed.)
Caid.
444

Isn't there a downloadable XP compatibility mode you can install on Windows 7?
Try running WoW through that.

yeah, I tried that too and the bsod still pops up. There's something really wrong with it. I don't know what my next means of approach should be...
Caid.
444

whats the error message in bsod?
maybe gpu related? did you try to changhe graphic drivers?

Got it.
You know, most of the answers to my problems come to me when I'm not working on the problems themselves.
I reinstalled vista on my shift, and played wow again. While I was playing, I thought a lot about the crashes, there was no message from it, as to why it was crashing. Just a plain old BSOD with a screen dump message.
But it occurred to me that the tutorial here said not to bother installing the sound drivers from HTC for vista, as the sound drivers work just fine from win7. Well, they work fine in win7, but not in WOW it seems. This time I reinstalled win7, and used every driver from HTC (including the sound driver), it works
So, to summarize, the sound drivers from the win7 install seem to crash WOW, probably a direct x sound issue, which is yet to be worked out.
Anyone who wants to use win7, would probably be best to use the original sound drivers from HTC as this problem could be quite confusing, especially when sound seems to work in most other areas. It's difficult to tell just how many other programs might crash on account of the driver issues I experienced, but who would know it's the sound driver with no message from Windows, and the fact that they work in the OS itself.
So, happy playing to anyone else who benefits from this knowledge as well.
Caid.

I Have A Couple of Questions before I Purchase A Titan

Hey everybody,
I've been looking for a phone to replace my Verizon Centro (I love the phone, but hate the OS), and my decision has come down to the HTC Titan and the Samsung i760 - I'm pretty sure y'all can tell I'm on a budget with this. Anyways, I found a Titan on eBay with the GPS patched, upgraded to WinMo 6.5, and has is set so tethering the phone with a laptop and using it as a modem won't cost extra. I've also found one that's dirt cheap but without any patches.
Now, I've been searching the forums and found out how to do the first two. Those seem easy enough as long as I'm patient. I can not, however, find out how to deal with the tethering issue. I've tried all the search options and I haven't found it. I'm hoping someone can point me to a thread or site that talks about it.
Lastly, I'd also like to ask you all your opinions of the phone itself. It seems to have gotten good reviews, but I'd like to hear from people who actually know what their phone can do.
Thanks for your time and any help you can give me.
i just got the phone...this reply wont be of much help but i really like it...
i like the office programs and the wifi..
bit on the heavy side but quality!
hope someone can be of more use!
I've had mine for about a year and really like it. It has a lot of features that were pretty ahead of its time that are still considered high-end:
stereo bluetooth, gps, touch screen, wi-fi, camera w/ flash
After unlocking it, putting on custom ROMs and enabling aGPS, this phone will make most people happy. The biggest drawback (and this should not be overlooked) is that it only has 64MB of RAM. That's pretty meager for an otherwise very powerful phone, and causes it to lag sometimes. Running multiple programs can sometimes grind your phone to a halt. Even with that said, I love my phone and would recommend it...primarily to someone who is not afraid to be proactive about flashing your phone or being judicious with installed programs.
I would also recommend buying the "unpatched" phone. Learning how to unlock and flash will get you pretty intimate with how you phone works and why. It'll help you out in the long run, especially if something ever goes wrong. Plus, it's not terribly difficult.
And for the tethering issue, try to get your hands on the latest version of WMWifiRouter before it became a paid program. I think it's v 0.92. It turns your phone into a wireless router that shares your data connection over wifi. I use it all the time and it is fantastic.

Couldn't have said it better. I had my Titan for about a year aswell and it finally died when it feel out of my buddies truck. Luckily I had Sprint TEP so I got a Touch Pro for free. I loved my Titan though, even with the lack of ram, I was able to do anything I needed to do. I would also suggest you buy the un-patched one. Learning to do the things yourself will help you alot in the long run.
I have attached a cab of WMWifiRouter that was mentioned in the previous post and the internet sharing fix as well. Also, if you do get it, check out my site http://dwizzy130.webs.com/ to see some of the very lite on ram themes I have made that all work on the Titan.
If you have anymore questions, you can pm me or get my email on the contact me page of my site.
I hope this helps you make a decision,

Thanks for your help guys! I decided to take your advice go with the unpatched one. Believe it or not, I was able to pick it up for $65, and it included the box and everything that came with it. Now I get to spend the next 4 days obsessing over when it will get here.

Great choice! After you have activated and got the phone working on its stock version be sure to copy down all the info in your Start > Settings > System Tab > Device Information. This will be helpful later if you get in a jam, and then start flashing away using the SD-memory card method. It's just faster and easier!
As for ROM choices, you'll get varying opinions but I mostly like my phone as a PHONE first and then as a Contact/Calendar PIM second, and then everything else considered. Which is why the DCD ROM's are my favorite because it's fast and leaves me with plenty of memory to install only apps that I intend to use!
Hey everybody, it's me again. Well, my phone is supposed to arrive tomorrow, and I've got most of the files downloaded and ready to go. All I need now is a ROM to flash it with. I've spent several hours looking around, so my question now is: would flashing to 6.5 be worth it (I've read quite a bit about the memory leaks), or should I go with dcd's titan ROM 3.3.4 for 6.1? Thanks again!

Hi,
I got hooked on the 6700 (Apache) back when Qwerst was had cheapest data plan, $15.
When I had issues with the functionallity of the unit, they sent me the 6800.
I found PPC Kitchen to be the most straight-foreward and fully selectable kitchen.
Just keep in mind that some of the apps that you choose, will cause other apps to become un-available. Like AdvancedConfig, (I select it first, then I can add other apps & it will not become un-selectable, unlike finding it later in the list, after selecting other apps).
There is also a program called "QPST".
This is important to copy the information from the phone while it is stock.
If your unit comes with Windows Mobile 6.1, get it setup with your carrier first, that way CustServ. Can walk you through setting up connections on your phone.
Any way there are very many helpful people using the fourms, with verry useful information, so enjoy your experience with the XDA & PPC Kitchen & don't forget PPC Geeks too.
Feel free to pm me.

Samsung Saga 6.5??

No love for the Saga??
I love it... and check for news about once every two weeks. Haven't heard anything.
hello fellow IL person... im hoping for a 6.5 cooked rom
note... I posted a message over on PDAPhoneHome.com and everythingwm.com and then found this thread... since it is similar in nature to my questions, I thought I would reply to this one instead of starting a new thread.
Greetings fellow frustrated Saga owners!
Wish I hadn't updated…
I, like many of you, now wish that I had not installed the update on my Saga.
It worked great before!... But now I am experiencing many of the same bugs that have already been mentioned on this forum.
I am pretty tolerant of bugs in general and I don't mind trying to find workarounds for them. Often, the workarounds add more functionality then would normally be there anyway… Plus I enjoy learning how things work.
Biggest problem…
The one thing that I can't stand is the loss of signal strength I have seen since updating! My data connection dies several times per day and I have to soft reset to get it back. Sometimes it is hours before I realize this has happened so I am not always getting my email right away. (Who has time to check their phone every few minutes to see if it has stopped synching or not?)
Other times it seems like it just stops synching for no reason. I use both an exchange server (MailStreet) and Windows Live and they both have this problem. Sometimes I check my phone when I go on break at Noon and I will notice that it hasn't synched since 9:30 AM or sometimes longer than that, yet there is no error message (like it tried to synch and couldn't) and I open the browser and can get on the internet. It is like it doesn't even try to synch. I have both of them set to synch every 15 minutes (greatly increases battery life btw) 24 hours a day. Then there are other times, it synchs more often than every 15 minutes… so I don't know what is going on!
Getting worse?…
Is it just me or do the signal issues seem to be getting worse? Or maybe it is just in my area? This past week I have actually started getting errors saying that it couldn't connect (whereas before, it just wouldn't connect... no errors)... and it seems to be happening more frequently.
Finally… my question…
What I would like to know is if anyone is working on a "cooked" ROM for the Saga. Either 6.1 or 6.5 would work for me. I have heard some good things about 6.5 (like dramatically increased performance), but I haven't heard about anyone working on this for the Saga. Waiting for Verizon to come out with another update is just a lesson in frustration and honestly I am not sure I would trust it if they did release one.
I consider myself to be a pretty tech savvy person and even enjoy some light programming on occasion (the .net framework is awesome… Something Microsoft got right!!), yet I am reasonably certain that cooking up my own ROM is beyond my skills (though I am willing to give it a shot if someone can point me to a clear guide)
Follow-up question…
If no one is working on this and no helpful guide is available, then I am wondering if a ROM from a similar phone can be used (maybe with a few modifications required?). For instance, is the Epix similar enough that we could use a ROM designed for it on the Saga? (There is a 6.5 ROM for the Epix that can be found here) Or does the fact that its hardware is GSM only make it out of the question?
More questions…
If using a ROM from a similar phone is possible is there a way to backup the current ROM so that it could be restored if the other ROM doesn't work? If so then I would probably be willing to use my phone as a guinea pig. Yes, I understand that there is a possibility that it could brick my phone and I am willing to accept the risk if there is a good chance that it will work. I have an old blackberry that I can use if something goes really wrong.
So I guess the real question is… How similar do the phones have to be? Or does it have to be identical hardware?
Any insight would be appreciated...
Steven
Id like to know the same answers! The Omnia, which came out at the same time will be upgradable to 6.5, so why did samsung release a phone that wont be at the same time as one that could?
i wonder if an omnia rom could be altered for the samsung?
Lets see some love for the Saga with 6.5, also any news on the Sags 2?
Revisiting old thread
I've still got a brand new Saga that I'd love to use if I could get a stable build of 6.1 or 6.5. The "update" from Verizon made the Saga useless with its instability and constant lock-ups.
I would really appreciate some of the experts here building a clean ROM for the Saga.
Thanks.

[Q] Need Help + Not Happy with WM6.5/android

hello to all, I just wanna start this thread to ask for help on some issues I've com across and also to say that I am not very satisfied with the results I'm getting from my device.
first off, I have been an iphone fanboy for tha past 2-3 years, I admit it, I'm not ashamed, the iphone was great, it did everything i wanted, specially music wise, it was perfect, but it got old really fast and after a while there was nothing more i could mod.
recently I changed to a t-mobile HD2, i was impressed at the beginning, I mean as far as hardware goes, it completely blows the iphone, but...I started reading and flashing WMroms, and i couldn't find something that i liked, windoes was wayyy to complicated for averyday use, the remote on the headphones only worked with the sense music player, the eyecandy was not par to iphone or android, etc...that and other issues made me change to android.
now here is where i need help, i LOVE android, it is beautiful and more useful and powerful than the iphone, but it has so many issues i cant even start.
i flashed this android nand yesterday [Feb 02][DL DesireZ v3.4][DL Data2SD/Ext4 v2.7][Nand/SD/MAGLAR] and found all these problems.
no remote support for headset
volume rockers don't work when phone is locked and music is playing
can't find equalizer on music app
the android store works but doesnt install the apps
and the auto rotate really sux
the funny thing is that the creator of this rom says that everything is working
can anyone lead me to an android nand that really works perfectly or are these hardware issues, any help will surely be appreciated, if the thread is in the wrong place please move it.
thnx !!!!
These are not hardware issues.
The headset may be proprietary to sense so may not work else where.
I don't think the stock music app has an equalizer but you can try many different music player apps. Winamp is a good one.
Not sure what the problem may be here on the market.
Also not sure on auto rotate.
Flash other roms, there are tons and tons of good roms. The HD2 has tremendous android support, if one doesn't fit your tastes, try another.
OK, First off. You're the only one facing these problems, because I've used that Rom for a few hours and everything worked (except the volume while locked)
Since you're an iPhone previous user, you may love Windows Phone 7 .
Windows Phone 7 and iOS have a lot in common. So head over here and flash it . (Click here for more ROM's)
And use it, remember that the Live services are not working, but hey If you like it I will provide you with an activation code .
If you didn't, I suggest you try MDJ's gingerbread .. they are great ..
We are sorry for the inconvenience you may have faced, have fun

thank you for your reply, its great to know im not the only one with these issues. I already did a lot of reserch on Windows Phone 7 and definitely its not my cup of tea, i love personalizing my phone and windows phone 7 would make me feel like a child with my hands tied. I will definetly stick to android and try out your suggestion. thnx !!
try this build: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877777
should try something that's most discussed and/or used...i am not saying the one you re using is no good, b/c i never tried that one before. but definitely try MDJ's, it works for me in the past month for everyday uses.

[Q] A driver installed itself on my laptop through an .exe file

Hey guys, really need help here. Honest noob here so please try to understand my situation. I updated to Windows 8.1 to see what were the changes but unfortunately I realised I didn't have my activation key, so I decided to use a program called Windows 8.1 Key Finder Ultimate just to see all the features before buying the key ( I don't have money, I'm just a poor student)
So I installed it, and clicked on it. Then it prompted me to install again, which I found peculiar. So I scanned the exe and nothing was wrong. I installed the thing and tried to run it, but it did the same thing so I tried KMS activators instead. From KMSAuto Pro to KMSPico, nothing worked. Something I did along the way triggered a sound driver to install, and it definitely wasn't a Realtek driver, which is my soundcard manufacturer. I didn't really pay much attention as it was 2-3am, and I assumed it would just stop installing due to conflicts with the real driver.
Decided to sleep, went to school at 7, came back home and decided to turn on my laptop to listen to my new CD. No sound. I assumed its just WMP having issues with the CD, so I tried my other players. Nothing! Decided I should try to see the speaker settings and check vol. etc but I can't play any test tone, with the computer telling me "Failed to play test tone". I panicked for awhile but went on a solution hunt. I tried everything from a clean boot to driver update to uninstall then install, disabling audio and re-enabling, so many and nothing works. Five hours later I'm here desparate to find answers from the gurus. (I realised I have no restore points, which is really idiotic of me...)
I remembered the sound driver that installed itself, so I intended to find it and murder it. But being the noob I am, I don't know how to find the right thing in event logs and all the mumbo jumbo. Is there a way to see what changed recently, or installed recently (not only programs) or even what was running a certain periods of time (don't say task manager because I'm not looking for what's running but rather what RAN). Also, are there any ways to see all drivers installed apart from device manager and isolate them to diagnose the issue at hand?
Any solutions provided to me is greatly appreciated, and should be free is possible. I don't have any money on me and I can't find a job to support myself due to school, so please understand that this laptop is really valuable to me and I need all the help I can find here. If any other detail is needed I'd gladly provide them. And please don't condone me for my mistake and stuff, I'm still learning as I go along...

You can use the reliability monitor under control panel >system and security>action center >maintenance to see a nice time line of events.
If you have a key for windows 8, you can easily and freely update to windows 8.1 using the store (you have to install all windows 8 updates first).
It is best to avoid using fishy .exes because they can damage your windows install and even install mallware.

FLEXX 11 WORKS!! just a couple things?

I am truly amazed at this. I have been searching for almost 3 years for a working dual boot android for my windows 2 in 1 next book FlexX 11. I have begged, posted and begged some more for this and now I have it thanks to Phoenix OS. (Just Google flexx11 android and you will see all my posts)
The only things that do not seem to work is Bluetooth and on some driving games the accelerometer is stuck in portrait even though I'm in landscape. It's weird because the nicer games have the bug and the cheaper ones work.
Please don't take this as complaining, honestly I would like these fixed if possible, but if they never are I would still be very pleased.
THANK YOU PHOENIX OS AND DEVS YOU MADE MY DREAMS COME TRUE!
You did what all the others couldnt
Anyone?
Bluetooth fix?
Accelerometer fix?
Anyone?
How did you get it to work? wonder if it would work on my Ares 10a?

You could have built it yourself.
Hello,
I could get Bluetooth working (at least for file transfers) using a custom build by youling257 and another guy from the Chinese PhoenixOS forum. The key was the init.sh script, it had a fix for other models with the same hardware, I have simply included the model I have (actually modified an existing one to match mine). Do you know exactly your BT model? Thinkpad 8 uses a Broadcom chip.
As for the games, my guess is that the builds fake a gyroscope that actually doesn't exist, at least mine has only accelerometer, that works for rotating the screen, but apps that report sensors also list others that don't exist. You can try disabling the kernel modules or changing the XML permissions to disable the gyroscope...
