Hello, The King! I think it's really difficult to translate a whole O.S. it is possible, but since a single O.S. has hundreds of strings (text) it would take months to years to make a good translation.
I think that there are tools, but, sorry, I don't know their names. I'm sure that any ROM cooker would provide you with the info.
Good luck!

I would like to thank you for reading my thread. I knew it is difficult to translate the whole system but as you know dreams has no boarders. I will stay dreaming until one day that will be a reality.

U can ask cookers certenly they know files and the best u can get is to uppack installation package, get language files (i think they are numbered instead of saying like: english, they have somthing like "0409" files and all that has that typo of number indicates us to a lang file) So u can try to extract it and then for exemple with TXT editor replace and translate it manually, and most of words are duplicated so if u use replace tool u can translate all langs pretty quickly, and dont forget that there are another problem that is language keyboard, that is yet another little problem, but not so hard.

what you could do is translate all files that end with mui.0409 but you need some software like PE Explorer to translate all strings and dialogs. this would give you kurdish language in program menus and stuff but you could probable not change the names of the folder because the programs have the paths deaper coded into the dll and exe. I would not dream of doing this because when you finaly get finished there would probalble be 1 or 2 updates since you started to translate so most new apps would not run on the windows version you translated.

german version of the xda-developers rom 1.2

hi guys
first of all thanks a lot for your work, it helped me out a lot and especially letting me get to know my new device much better and easier.
i just have some hard time setting up your xda special rom image. with an english version built in linux flashed with the bootloader way and xdarit.exe, it worked out fine but when i tried to built my own german version, it just shows the splash screen, at the lower right corned it show that the system initialised (with this g32S54 ; R3.17.01 message written in red) but than it just freezes and cannot be started.
i somehow tried it with a german t-mobile image, an old o2 image and the newest o2 image and i got the same problem everytime.
is there a way to get the german version running ? since i'm in need of the special signs or does your mkrom script just runs on an english image ?

To be honest, we never really tested mkROM much on German versions. But there's new developments on the horizon, and you may like what's coming...

What do you mean with that??? A universal multilanguage SE??? Special german ROM???
Please give more details...
Hi All,
English is ok for me. I just would like to get a german qwertz keyboard on it.
If anybody has freeware suggestions let me know.
regards,
Silver
did you mkrom, to extract the xipchain from your rom?
the offsets used in mkrom may need to be changed. currently these are all hardcoded for the qtek rom. have not looked at other roms.
thanks for the hint, i'm just about to try that, just did not recognize this xipchains script. but i'm working on that.
but since my knowledge is not that good it may take a while...
more hints are welcome .
actually this german qwertz keyboard is the most important thing for me too.. but having also a german language just makes navigating much quicker, and since there are a lot of people around here being interested in your special rom, because the original once just suck and are totally unusable. and yours seems to run very stable...
greetz at all

Sorry, no freeware, but there is an application called calligrapher, wich is a handwriting recognition thingy, far better than transscriber. It can use custom dictionaries and has a better keyboard included with it. I use it all the time with a dutch upgrade. You can get the german one if you like and youll have the qwertz keyboard. (Because of a bug, the dutch version also has qwertz).
I have also tried to built a German one...see http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1490&highlight=dolo
So I am even not sure if my Linux solution is the right one, or the hardcoded stuff is tricking me.
so any clue on how to get mkrom on German ROM running is apreciated.
Dolo
just checked the 3.19.01 german rom, the MISC block is larger than in the qtek rom. now it is partially overwritten by the XDA_DEVELOPERS1 block.
you would have to change the start of xda_developers1 to 81840000,
and also make it smaller, since not everything will fit anymore.
hey that sounds cool, but how do i do that ?
deleting some files out of the files2 directory ?
and how do i set the start block ? sorry did not have enough time to read through all the readme and how to files...
thanks a lot

They should be as long as you got the HTC_CIME i think is the name of the chinese one.

What is HTC_CIME? Is it a specific ROM version? And, could you tell me how can I find out what version of ROM is on my phone?
Thanks.

HTC_CIME is HTC chinese input method editor (or something like that ) it exist as HTC_CIME.apk
So try to search but HTC_CIME.apk around the forum, not sure all roms will work with this if not i bet there is an default android CIME. But read several places that this is working on some of the no-sense roms released here on xda.
Since i'm not Chinese or even know the language i never had any use for it so don't know much about it either. Don't flame me if i'm wrong, just trying to help giving you some words there might help you in your search for a solution

Thank you anyway. But you still not tell that how do I know what is the version of ROM currently running on my phone? For example, you know yours is "CursorSense32A-1.2.6.1".
Narkewoody: the easiest way to use Chinese applications or see Chinese characters is for you to install an add-on program, such as CE-Star or Monster Chinese. The downside of doing it is that certain system-related prompts will be shown in Chinese, as opposed to English. Let me know if this doesn't make sense. You may also want to go to the CE-Star and Monster Chinese websites and take a look. Good luck.

translate hero rom

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654030
if i want to translate into italian this rom which files have i to change?
I don´t know the answer to your question...
I have the same problem just a different language portuguese...
You can try morelocale 2 but I think that only change keyboard dictionary and some language apps, don´t change the UI in your case.
But be patient Nathan says that he will work on that, he will try to port the language files of his legend port rom (villain 4.2) to this rom...
Maybe in the next release this problem are solved...
ok man thanks a lot!
But i'd like to know how to do that...so i can try

[Q] SE included stuff (programs, language) in custom ROM's ?

So, my problem is next
I would like to put some custom ROM to my new Xperia X8, but I need Exchange Activesync Mail for my work.
SE included Roadsync application which I use for this.
any other application I found needs to be payed for, even Roadsync if I want to install it on some other device.
but I allready payed it with my X8 so I should have it for free if I change OS?
so what's the situation with this, and what are my possible solutions?
and what about other stuff like that (wisepilot...)?
and the other thing is about language.
SE ROM has everything in Croatian. I allways used english with every device I had because Croatian translation was funny.
But in X8 Croatian is very good. And that includes Android translations (menus, icons...), keyboard chars and dictionary.
I would really like to keep this
is it possible?
thank you for your answers in advance!

u only get it for free if u use the OS that SE provides, tho what i can think of is rooting your phone then going into /system/app folder and locate the respective .apk files, then installing them again when u change OS. of course if SE put dependencies all over the place then u're pretty much screwed unless u can find them and put them back in the proper places.
as for the croation translation u need to find out if the custom rom supports croation tho the translation is bound to be different from SE's original 1. if none of them do then maybe u can contact the rom developer to see if they're willing to make the translation for u.
bear in mind tho that if u install a custom rom u lose all support from SE and whatever free software that may come along with it. the "free" stuff that u're talking about comes in a package, not individually.
thank you for answer
I just hoped devs include this stuff, because that was the case with my HTC Touch Cruise. DEV's usually included all of the HTC stuff in the ROM.
But OK. the problem is that I need Activesync mail.
I think that nowdays it's essential thing for everybody that need mail for work.
Is there some free app that work good?
I couldn't find it myself.
I can do without everything else SE included.
and regarding language, is there a way to extract this stuff out of ROM and make some app or something that can be included in any other ROM after it's installed?
I saw there's a lot of people from Croatia on X8 forums, some with very big knowledge, so if there's a way maybe somebody will do it
I can use english like always till now (and will for better ROM), but now that I know there's good Croatian translation, it would be nice to have it.
2.3 roms have cro lan

[Q] Is there any guide for changing the language of the ROM??

Hope flash english to chinese.Anyone can offer a guide about how to do this?
Thanks in advance!

It's quite easy, but it depends on the ROM you are using. Some ROMs support specific languages (locales). To change the locale go to phone's "Settings" app. Tap on "Locale and text" entry and then tap on "Select locale" entry. Select your desired locale and reboot the device.
Sadly I have not seen Chinese locale in SG3 ROMs (probably because I was never looking for it). There is Korean locale in most of SG3 ROMs. Try flashing a couple of stock ROMs to see if they have Chinese locale or wait if someone replies which ROM is he using to get Chinese locale...

Thank you all the same……
Maybe my description is not clear enough ,I mean how to make the ROM support chinese by modifing some files of the ROM.
My english is not good enough, hope you can understand……

Oh, that's another matter...This would include translation of the corresponding files in the framework, and the OS itself. All .apk(s) need to be translated, which considers decompiling and the recompiling the whole .apk, hunting down the GUI .xml(s), adding the translation and so on...Isn't there Chinese Android translation/localization?
...and I forgot one very important thing, the Chinese fonts and grammar! This can cause many compatibility issues. As I understand, Chinese characters cannot be translated respectively from Alphabetical characters. This would involve coding/writing a new/separate module for decoding and encoding Chinese characters. If Chinese is similar to Korean, this is the place to start. Word prediction and autocerrect software would have to be written also - for the keyboard, new keyboard layout etc...A lot of work (assuming there is no Chinese localization for Android).

Thx a lot.
There are people who do the translation work on the Internet. But they are not able to turn every ROM to chinese version, especially when i find a ROM which i like from xda. I think i should try to find out how they do the work and learn it……
