Help Needed: Ringtones and IE Favorites

Can the Universal Play mp3 or wma files as ringtones thru the standard contacts application? I see where to assign ringtone but my wma tones are not shown. I placed them in a folder in the mydocuments folder in the internal memory. Do they need to go into a different folder? Or do I have to use a third party application?
Also, in WM5 I dont see a Windows folder when I select Explore thru active synch. In WM2003 inside of the Windows folder I had a Favorites folder. I am looking for this folder to copy and paste a few links I saved on my PC from my Jam.
Thank you for your help!

Sorry, I figured it out. Ill leave the post just in case someone else runs into this problem. I had my file settings to not show hidden files. Changing that to show all files I now have the Windows folder. The ringtones go into the windows\rings folder and under windows there is the folder for favorites.

If you have MP3 or WMV files go to the option of the file u we be able to set that file as ring tone... Windows automatically copy that file in to Ring folder and shows u in ring tone list for u from Phone.

how to change sms tone

how to put in new tones for sms...ive tried to put them but it wouldnt pick it up for sms.....how to do it??
try to put them to root folder on your SD-Card oder to Windows folder on your Prophet, but with wm5 you can't use mp3 as ringtones for sms
hello guys and girls
budy i think its work with wav extension for sms and make it mono 16 /8
and put it in windows file
u must put wav in windows folder that's all
Or you can change the registry to read from Storage card folder, but the fastest way is in window/root folder.
Or you can use soft for assigning tone to sms

i use ur method above and it works for the sms tone..but i cant see my mp3 in the alarm tone selection...
pls help again..thanks!!! =)
You have to convert that mp3 into a wav file.
hi, you can use mp3 as a ringtone or sms alert. but you have to unclock normal windows settings menu. in sound and notification menu ou can choose mp3 as alerts. i don't really remember if you have to put files in /windows or /application data/sounds folder. give it a try
when you just put a .mp3 file in the root of your storage card it will also work.

you could do that also create a "My Documents" folder and put everything in there

Where is the location for sms>attach sound?

i am trying to send a sound file to my mate via sms and when i click attach>sound i cant seem to find where it is pulling these files from so i cant put my custom sound file in the folder.
/windows is the location you should drop your .wav files.
in earlier days the .wav should be in pcm format - to be hones I'm not sure if .m4a/.wav (any format)/.mp3 all are working now.
But if you have issues on all other formats then try .wav pcm-format. it does work.

[Q] no custom text message ringtones for wp7 on hd2???

i was wondering is it possible to do so because ihavent been able to find away to do it noir have i found anything on google that talks about it been trying get help with this all night someone plzzzzzz HELP! i dont want to go back to winmo just because i cant have text msg ringtones....
What I did to change mine was,
1 convert the file to .wma format
2 rename the file to Alert-05 (or 01 ,02 etc) (it needs to be Alert-## otherwise it won't be found it settings)
3 copy it to the windows directory using touchXplorer
4 select it using settings ...
there must be a better way but it worked for me, hope it works for you.
As neilarmes said.
Think that this is the only way to get custom alert tones and does work for custom ringtones as well. You have to bear in mind that when you rename the .wma file and move it using touchXplorer, it will overwrite an existing WP7 alert tone as you I don't think you can add extra tones.
Using the above method you can however add mp3 files to your ringtones folder to have custom ringtones. Would just advise not to have too much music synced to your device as the file names in the Zune folder don't immediately lead you to the file you're after.

Note about ringtones...all ended up doing is copying my custom ring tones (in mp3 format) using Zune as if they were music transfers. After syncing, go into the My Documents\Zune folder, I believe, and using TouchXplorer copy your ringtones to the My Documents\My Ringtones folder. After some lag in time, your customer ringtones will appear in your selection list. No conversion to WMA needed for ringtones.
As for the SMS sounds, I was about to try converting my mp3 notification files into WMA then renaming it Alert-11 through whatever, the copying it to the \Windows directory. Alert-01 thru 10 are already present. Going to see if naming the file other than Alert-xx.wma will work as well.
How do make the tones useable on the text messages and other notifications. Thanks

I jsut tried "Alert-VM" and "Alert-TXT" but no dice. Also tried Alert-11 and Alert-12 to no avail. Time to rename the default guys and overwrite w/ the new ones!
