Using XDA Exec for mail server - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
I was just wondering whether it would be feasible to use my XDA Exec as a server, or even "just" as a mail server? Does anyone know whether O2 blocks Port 25 as standard? If so, can it be unblocked?
It would make life so much simpler if I could run a mail server from my XDA Exec... Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

G0 on then you got me, im fascinated!

as far as i know there is no port blocking on o2 network but , it could be diffucult to forward packets from external ip to your local ip. On o2 you dont get unique wan ip when you connect to gprs but use one of the o2 servers.

XDA IIi VPN over WiFi problem

Hope some one can help with this - I am sure I've seen posts on the subject but can't seem to find them
Set up a PPTP VPN connection to use the wifi connection, all advanced setting set to enable this (same settings work on and ipaq with 2003se)
what happens is the xda connects to the vpn server receives an ip address and then drops
the logging on the server shows no errors
I have spoken to O2 who recognised this as a known issue but had no timescale for a fix/workaround
I have tried different radio versions and different OEM's roms to no avail
I suspect either the hardware or the WiFi driver but I'm no expert on pocket pc stuff
Would be grateful for a share of thoughts or even fixes on this subject
as this was the primary reason I bought six of them
Have tried latest o2 rom - issued by o2 today
doesn't fix the wifi/vpn problem and doesn't upgrade the radio either
another half hearted effort by o2
I realise that this is no consolation but I have also had this problem trying to connect the WM3 VPN client. You seemed to have got a bit further by getting an IP addr from your VPN server. Another point to note is that if you try to connect to your VPN server via GSM (instead of WiFi),
the connection session goes a little further (if you check thru the server logs) but again, in my case, it ends up with a "VPN server problem, check your username and password...".
Our VPN server happens to be a PIX firewall, can I ask which VPN server are you using ? :x
VPN
We are using a simple Windows server VPN PPTP for the purposes of testing - it works fine over GPRS just not wifi
I have had an email from O2 confirming that they are aware of the problem - but the last rom update is the last one they are going to issue
and they have no plans to fix the problem
I will be taking this further with O2 and will let you know the result
in this forum - but I don't hold out much hope

VPN on Windows mobile 5

Hi,
I am hoping someone out there can help me. I currently have a SPV M600 (Prophet) and I am trying to use the phone to receive my emails.
I VPN in to our network over GPRS which appears to connect fine as I checked the ISA server which shows the connection. However, there is no data transfer. It appears that the VPN is not using the IP address of the network that should be assigned to it, which will not allow it to connect to anything on my network.
Other windows mobile OS work, just seems to be Windows Mobile 5.
Any ideas?

Have you tried to add exceptions in network/advanced tab in connection applet ?
You should try to add these two exceptions: "http://*/*" and "*/*"
Ciao, Francesco
I dont know where you are but here in France, Orange and SFR block VPN traffic, specifically "GRE 43".
It could be much the same problem.

Are you using the built in VPN within WM 5, I know for myself I have to use a more complex VPN client to access my work network. I am currently testing Bluefiresecurity's client, it appears to work well but is a bit expensive at $79. Antha VPN also produce a client but I had problems switching between Wifi and GPRS.
I hope this helps. I am on O2 UK and can access my work network using bluefire.

QTek 9000 on 3 network anybody?

I recently changed to the 3 network from o2 and I'm having real serious problems with email.
I have subscribed to the internet10 add-on and I want to be able to use it primarily for checking emails, however mobile Outlook is not connecting to my 1and1 server. I have no problem with my o2 SIM (with the o2 GPRS connection settings) or WLAN, so I know my settings are correct.
I have no problem surfing the internet using mobile IE, so the connection is set up OK, I just can't check my emails, which is really all I want to do.
Does anybody have any experience with this? I have tried using the search function, but "3" and "three" are such generic terms I'm getting about a million hits...:-/
Also, I could really use the 3/Qtek 9000 ROM so I have all the relevant 3 software. If anyone has that I'd be very grateful too!
Thanks in advance.
Is there really nobody here that is using a QTek 9000 on 3...?
Are you getting web pages on the 3Services connection with the internet pack? I.e you can browse outside the 3 garden like get SMH. If you can and outlook is not working try another mail program or try pinging it from the command line to test connectivity. You can use the task manager if you have the Helmi rom it comes build in to ping your mailserver. Or try pocketTTy to telnet to your mail server on ports 25 and 110. If you cannot telnet it's possible that 3 blocks incoming and outgoing port 25 and 110 connections to stop the use of other mailservers. You could try the 3Netaccess connection which is the same as connecting the to the internet but that is charged at $4 per mb unless you sign up for one of the internet packs. If you find you can telnet try another mail program like flex Mail.
Good luck

ha I just noticed that your are from England. We have the same addon pack in Australia. You can try what I suggested but the access points would change.
Hey guys!
I also use the 3 network, but I live in Austria. The problem is, that in Austria Three doesn't support the Qtek 9000, so I don't have the original ROM. Is it posible that someone could send me this ROM via email or rapidshare?
I got most of the things (like MMS, Planet3, Email) to work, but I sill can not watch mobile TV...
Can you please help me with this MobileTV thing?

push-email port

My carrier has a cheap gprs data plan with unlimited e-mail access but only 10Mb for internet usage. Since it doesn't specify any exchange server to use, my guess is that the traffic is differentiated based on the port (anyone thinks there's another way?), so I immediatly thought about using openvpn in the same port and have cheap unlimited internet access on my pda. The problem is that I can't find any info on the push-mail protocol. Can anyone tell me what port is uses so that I can try it out?

ActiveSync uses SSL to connect to the Exchange server, and port 443 is all you need, even with push email. The push email setting only works with ActiveSync, which only does Outlook.

Connect to my home server trought GPRS

Hi all,
i have a problem here that i'll try to explain as good as possible. I'm running a program that acts like a server on one of my computers. My internet provider does not allow me to use port 80 as acces port. So i have been using port 8080 and for a while that worked on my HTC TYTN2 with a GPRS connection. Now i have an android phone and i can't connect to the server anymore trough GPRS, but i think it's mostly because i changed my abo .
I use :8080 after my home ip and my router forwards it to the correct computer and server. Over a Wifi connection everything works ok
Nevertheless, other people now want to use this server but i need to make sure that people can connect to it.
Does anyone have a similar problem or hopefully a solution ? that would be a life saver !
thanx in advance
