O2 Xda Exec use on Cingular network - Networking

I've searched this can can't find anything...I was wondering if i could use the Exec on my cingular plan without having to change anything. I'd like to be able to use my existing SIM card with it. Thanks for the help.

Yes, you can , but you need had unlock O2 Exec , I used Cingular in my Exec work fine.

I got the same problem with you, I cant get it work with Cingular service and I cant get any solutions from searching net. I have tried to talk with them, go to their stores and do whatever I can. The result still the same, it really make me headache....I have already paid for 2 months fee in "NO SERVICE" condition and they cannot do anything!

O2 XDA Exec issue with cingular ....
O2 XDA Execs come unlocked from O2. When i received mine when it came first out in early october 2005, i just plugged in my Cingular SIM and there wasn't any problems. Though note that the SIM location is a little iffy at times, you shouldn't have a lot of problems.
You would also need to configure the GPRS settings on the Exec.
BTW, noticing you're from MO, which phone were you using prior to the Exec? it might give me more of an idea of your situation ...I've been using GSM phone for a while and i know that Cingular didn't have a full GSM network until a couple of months ago ... and if you came from AT&T then that's another ballgame as well ... AT&T used a mix of different standards as well ...

I was using MDA II before EXEC. Start from May, I can't get the signal anymore, at first I thought it was my MDA problem, so I changed it to EXEC. But, who knows? The same problem still there. Cingular just blame O2 that the EXEC has problem, and they do nothing.
Are you using EXEC now? How to change the GPRS setting?
In addition, I was Cingular customer about 1.5 year already. This problem happen since May. I really have no idea how to solve it.

Have to restart phone to regain GPRS connetion

I Have to restart phone to regain GPRS connetion every now and then. I have radio version 1.01.00 and rom version 1.03.00 WWE. My provider is Vodafone in sweden.
If I go to flight mode and back to normal then I can connect to GPRS again. Should I uppgrade my I-Mate to get it to work? Any Ideas what to do?
I've heard of people with similar problems, you need to upgrade your Rom, if you wanna stay relatively safe, upgrade to:
Rom Version: 1.72.00WWE
U can get this from club imate
I'm afraid I can´t find the rom on the Imate Club site. But you belive my problem will be solved by uppgrading the rom right? I´ll have to search for it then. ;c) Thanks.
I sure don't see any version 1.72 on Club iMate at JAM Device Support. The latest available upgrade I see is:
Radio 1.01.00
ROM 1.03.143 WWE
Where do you see version 1.72?
Frank
I believe he's referring to the wrong device. 1.72 was for the I-Mate Pocket PC - not the Jam.
Ok. I have posted a case to Imate and they where about to send a file to correct the problem but I got an emty mail.
Imate support don't know what this is. I'm back on the hunt. Anybody else having the same problem with theirs? Please let me know in this thred
Sincere Apologies, I was in fact dreferring to the I-mate....didnt realise this thread was under magician
Got an ansver from Imate. They sent me an PDF file where they showed me how to set up the GPRS connection. The problem is, been there and done that. I’m totally lost here. Is it only me who has this problem with “magican” and Vodafone? (In Sweden). Frustrating! ;c(
Note: With my P800 and the same location and same SIM = no probem at all.
I have the exact same problem with Vodafone gprs in Sweden
Hi Robert
I have the exact same problem with GPRS. I am also a customer of Vodafone in Sweden. I have this problem regardless of the device I am using. I have been running Qtek 2020, 8010, 9090 and S100 (magician) devices with the same problem for quite a while now.
I have started to think that this is not a device problem. It is probably a problem with Vodafone GPRS. I have contacted their tech support a couple of times about this. So far we have tried disabling/reenabling GPRS on my account and switching to new Sim-cards. None of this has worked so far.
I am using their twin cards service switching between different phones, I am not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.
best regards
Christofer
Thanks a lot for giving me this feedback. I'll talk to Vodafone right away.
Solution: I know that Telia supports the magican device because they have them for sale. My solution was to call Telia and tell them that I wanted to use them instead. Its a covards solution but Imate blames Vodafone and Vodafone blames Imate.
I have an old Qtek1010 on Telia, and it is behaving just like your Magician on Vodaphone. Sometimes I have to actually remove the SIM and put it back in again to be able to reconnect.
Another question about the Magician and GPRS. I have read on a couple of forums that the Magician will not keep the GPRS connection alive when in "sleep mode". Is this true? If so I may have to quickly cancel my order...

My gprs connection seems to stay connected ok even when the machine is switched "off". I have an imate jam on o2 in the UK.
I don't know if it stays on forever because i tend to log off gprs so i can go on line through bluetooth.
Simon
This is really bad news. I thought that since Telia do have thoose phones for sale they should have tested them in the net. In that case I should start thinking of going back to my old P800 instead of changing provider.
I Wonder if there are someone in here who it works for in sweden. Please let me know.
I have several collegues who are not experiencing these problems with Qtek devices on Vodafone network. So it does not seem to be a general problem.

I just talked to Telia today as my GPRS broke down totally and there was just nothing that would make it connect. The person I talked to was very helpful and professional and we managed to isolate the problem to my SIM card. Being a brand new SIM I received just two weeks ago I though that just anything but the SIM would be more probable. It was very evident though as my SIM would not work with GPRS in neither mine nor a colleauges phone but the colleauges SIM would work just fine in both.
My new SIM will arrive on monday, and then hopefully it will not be too long before my S100 arrives as well
Ok, thats somewhat god news. Then there is hope to accually use this expensive piece of toy as it is suppose to.
Some input…
I have a Qtek S100 and run it with Telia. Works just fine, never have to reset or remove the SIM. However, I have problem with the GPRS to disconnect when synchronized with my PC and when using the phone. Have heard that an app called GPRS Keep Alive would solve that problem, haven’t tried it yet.

It will not. For two reasons:
1. There can only be one network connection at a time, and the activesync connection counts as a network connection (you can use network passthrough to use the activesync connection for network access from the PPC).
2. You can not have a GSM voice connection and an active GPRS connection simultaneously because they share the same radio hardware. Simultaneous GPRS and Voice would need two radios in the phone, and although it has been part of the GSM specification for quite some time there are no such device available on the consumer market yet.

Pay As You Go XDA 2 ?

i am recently deciding whether to part with my cash and buy a xda 2. First of all are they worth it? Also would i be able to use a pay as you go sim card from a samsung v200? which does have gprs as it has o2 active i was just wondering as i do not really want to go to a pay monthly plan
thnaks in advance
How much you paying for it? It will work with the sim you have as long as its an O2 phone, if not you can unlock it for free.
it will probably be £270 unlocked and yes i have a o2 sim card
You won't be able to take advantage of the full internet GPRS, I had no end of trouble trying to connect to MSN and websites outside of 02 active, even after numerous phone calls to 02, they never got this sorted out.
As far as I know, on a pay as you go simcard, you cannot benefit from full internet access with o2.
ye but is'nt there a way of changing the setting or something i heard you can do that to make it go on the internet
well can you plzz tell me so i can decide whether to get one
I have a PAYG vodafone in my xda2. Ive only just got the phone and still havent worked out how to get internet access on it. I downloaded vodafone's 'connect me' software and that buggered my actviesync connection so i had to uninstall it....
I would like to say that yes this is very possible.
I had my old XDA I and XDA II on pay and go with O2 I had full internet and full GPRS though it took alot of time to get the settings but I managed it. the only annoying this is when you send a text it tells you your credit about 5 times. I have now got the XDA IIi and the sim also works with this.
conclusion is that yes it can be done and its not hard either. just change the ISP and work connection
cheers can to share the setting for the xda 2 if you know them as if i get one i might need them trying to get my parents to pay half for my birthday present lol
I paid USD $600 for O2 XDA II 2 months ago.
But it's worth.
I'm using it in programming Pocketpc application, capture Discovery from my PC then copy it to my SD 512 MB and view in PocketPC when go to sleep, listen MP3s, use softwares...
It's a nice XDA man !

There used to be a way, by changing the Proxy settings, but this does not work for newer SIM's.
O2 PAYG SIM's less than 18 months old (I think) can only access WAP via GPRS.
Cost: Expect to pay £200-£250 for a good condition XDA II on Ebay (just got £235 for mine, but some have gone for as little as £180)
well my sim card is from a samsung v200 which was brought new about november 2003 which has gprs on it, but now am not sure although i suppose if it does not work i should be able to pick on up easily from a store somewhere
Anyone have the Voda settings for GPRS/MMS? I'm on O2 and the reception around here is hit and miss, but Voda is always spot-on. I've a PAYG card that's data-enabled, I just need the settings for the XDAII.

Phone element in XDA II - Not there?!?!

Hi all,
I've spent the last month searching through everything so as not to waste anyones time with a simple question but to no avail and so here I am.
I've been given an XDA II from a family member as they have upgraded to the Exec and I have been using it as a PDA only. Well I see that Orange have some good deals on the go and so decide to use it as a phone/Internet enabled PDA as well.
I've unlocked it (many times now) got 2003SE on it and have put the correct MMS and GPRS settings in (The ones from Shadamehr). I've checked with Orange and GPRS is enabled on my account with them (PAYG at the mo) but for some reason the same thing that was happening when I first got it pops up
"Cannot connect
There is no modem at the above number..."
So best my small mind can figure is that somehow the 'phone part' of the PDA isn't working. I've tried other sims in it and they don't work either (o2 and Three - but I think Three is funny anyways). Is there something wrong with the actual phone bit?
It's a legit XDA with the M1000 ROM upgrade from the orange site which has made it 2003SE
Does anyone have any knowledge about how I can get my PDA to be a phone? It was once before (but with O2)
I asked this question over in Networking but they seem to think it's something specific to the phone.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

A few problems

Hi guys, great forums, have learnt so much in past few days.
I have an m5000 but i'd like to use it on o2. So reflashed with aku3.2 beta8 and inserted o2 sim.
I now need the o2 settings if anyone would be kind enough to give them me, can't seem to get 3g on o2 either, where as my orange sim instantly displays "U" when it turns on.
That's the only major problem at the moment....
a simple google search will get you the settings
what i had to do to get my 3g working, was use a 3g sim card. I couldn't use my old O2 sim, so i had to activate the 3G one that came with my exec.
hope this was helpful

02 uk rom?

Has anyone managed to get a tytn working on the uk o2 network? o2 say theu do not support the phone although they have the phone in germany listed as an xda trion. I can make calls and texts with my simcard but have no 3g access as yet. The phone was originally on vodaphone. Any help appreciated !
dont you just need to edit the connection settings for o2?
these should be the same for any o2 phone that uses 3g...
i believe they are posted on the wiki
thanks for quick answer
Thats what i thought, but phoned o2 for the settings and they just kept saying that the "software" in this phone is not compatible with o2 network and therefore there is no support for it and no settings ! MUPPETS !
Any idea where i can find the settings for a normal o2 phone?
Worth a try, I really want this phone on o2 !

I smell COW DUNG!!!! O2 are spinning rubbish to you sir...ive been using a TyTN since the middle of August with O2-UK (see stats hehehe).
Il get my settings into a .txt file for you...theres some variations you can use but il set you up with the ones that work ok??
What are you on PAYG or Contract???
P.S: My TyTN is a genuine HTC TyTN (i.e not a varioII or imate JASJAM variation of it) bought it unbranded(unlocked) from mobilefun.co.uk....sim free.
Theres a cab file with the O2 UK settings somewhere on this forum I usen it all the time. Sorry I don't have the link anymore after the XDA Dev switch to new servers. Also O2 3G works perfectly fine with the tytn. What you do have to have is a 3G enabled sim card, I had to get mine changed for one & also do you have O2 3G coverage where you are? To determine if you have just whip out the sim card & it should have 3G printed on it.
Yer if your SIM is not a 3G enabled one (USIM) then give O2 a bell and say you have recently aquired a 3G handset and need a new SIM card for it to work with the 3G service....they should send one out (for free)...when it turns up just call O2 again and get them to enable it.
What they said about the TyTN not being supported is a crock of sh*t .... im guessing they will only give you the settings when its an O2 handset!?
Forgot to add the O2 3G settings are exactly the same as the normal GPRS. You just need a 3G enabled sim card
