Unlocked GSM phone working with Pre-paid services? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I have a n6682(Cingular Go-phone) and a Nokia70(Cingular contract)
I am going to get a new phone within a week.I want to use the unlocked phone with the sim card from the n6682-will this work?Unlocked phones work with any service right? The only reason i want to use the go-phone sim card is because i am just going to use the new phone just for connection purposes. Will this work as long as i have a sim card?

how can you tell if phone has been SIM unlocked

i ran lockiwiz and I don't have any other sim cards to test it out but how can you tell if the phone has been sim unlocked?
anyone????????????????????????
The only way is to use a SIM from another provider.
I you don't have any friends who trust you enough to loan you a SIM for 5 seconds then try going to a Mobile Phone shop and telling them you are thinking about switching providers and your phone is supposed to be SIM unlocked but you want to be sure before you start shopping around. Most likely they'll be happy to help you test your phone with one of their SIMs (hoping to get a new customer).

[Q] Verizion worldphone + verizion 4g sim?

Ok, so i was explaining to my lil sister about sim cards, and as i was saying how only Verizon worldphones had sims, i realized that you could, in theory, put a Verizon 4g sim into a 3g worldphone, and.... what would it do? I'm a little hazy on how exactly Sim cards work, but would it be possible to artificially "create" a 4g phone using a 4g Verizon sim?
EDIT: ok, since there are no answers, i realize this is a noobish question, but does the sim card contain the actual 3g/4g/whatever radios, or does it just "enable" them?
The sim card contains the customer account information, so once you lock the signal verizon knows how to properly bill you for your usage.
4G sim cards are different than 3G sim cards although they are in the same format. You can't just swap your Droid 2 Global Sim card and expect to work in your Droid 3 or vice versa becuase the ESN is what is tied to your number, the sim card is just there for roaming purposes (i may be wrong on that one), but i know that even on the global phones, you must have the sim card inserted in the phone to be able to get service with verizon.
The 4G sim card works more like a REAL (GSM) simcard you can swap your sim card into another 4G device and your number will transfer.
Here is another difference, the same sim card on global devices can be reused like you can go to your account and transfer your phone to another account without the need for another sim card. The 4G sim cards become invalid once they are deactivated and you will require a new blank sim card in case you want to activate your phone number again (this usually happens when you switch from a 4G device to a 3G, then move back up to a 4G device), they work much like most GSM sim cards work.
So in sumary, the 4G sim cards works more like a real sim card.

[Q] invalid sim card problem

just got my lg c900 today from ebay, and when i insert my att sim card, it says "invalid sim card"...
But I have been using this sim card on other devices, like nokia 2710 and my touch 3g and they work fine!!
So i tried someone else's sim card(Att), it works too!!!
What should i do.....
You need to unlock the phone to use with other carrier. There are a lot of unlocking services that can help you to unlock it.
Aha!
I had the exact same 'problem' and freakou... er... reaction.
You have to activate a plan on the SIM card. Only then will it stop giving you the INVALID SIM message at startup.

Jesus! Is there no other way out? I didn't buy it from AT&T and don't want to pay for the data plan....
can i just don't make a data plan but just enable the data connection?
If you want to use the phone or Data (excluding Wifi) functions of the phone, you'll need to have some sort of plan or prepaid account associated with the SIM card.
It doesn't mean you have to pay the 'Smartphone' package that AT&T offers (forces) when you get the phone on a contract. You don't even need to have a plan at all! You just need to activate an account online.
Thanks, but actually this is not my contract phone. I bought it from someone else. In my current contract my device is a basic phone, but I enable the data connection function(pay per usage).
But it's still not working...what a wp7....
what do you mean by activating an account online? I already got my account.
Well, on Telus, you just had to activate a phone by entering the SIM number (it's on the little card you received with the SIM or sometimes on the SIM itself) in the 'Activate your Phone' wizard.
Problem fixed!!!!
I call the ATT customer service and they update my sim card information. now it works!!!
Excellent to hear! I'm glad your problem got fixed

Unlocked tmous won't connect with tmobile sim

Hi I have been using my htc hd2 for over a year, I unlocked it in the begginning and have been using ATT on it til now. I have recently switched over to tmobiles network but for some reason my htc hd2 won't connect with the tmobile sim card now. I am running an andriod nand.
Does the phone still work with the ATT sim? if so its not the sim card carrier/reader on the phone
Where how did you unlock it?
Just changing to Android does not unlock it, normaly its a cost to you to buy the code £15 to £20 in the UK
So if you only added Android its not unlocked
I'm sure its unlock. As it is branded as a tmobile phone and I purchased an unlock code for it awhile back and I entered it while I was on windows 6.5 and it allowed me to use the ATT sim card til now when I switch back to tmobile it won't let me. My att sim card still works with the phone just not the tmobile
Sound like one the sim:
Does the Tmobile sim, does it work in a different cell?
Does a different sim work in the phone (not including the ATT sim)
I'm pretty sure its not the sim card, I've tried multiple sim cards from friends and the ones from ATT works but for some reason the tmobiles ones don't work I have no clue. Strangest thing too is that I flashed stock windows mobile 6.5 and a new radio rom and the phone connected to the network and i was able to make a call but 2 minutes later "no service" again....
Its only the tmobile sim card too.

[Q] Calls Work with one SIM and not the other

Having a problem with a Telstra HD2 model.
With a Telstra SIM in the phone, I can make and receive calls. When I insert a Vodafone SIM into it, I cannot make or receive calls. Call hangs up straight away.
Device is not network locked as HTC phones are not locked with Telstra. Bars display in task bar.
Tried it with Windows 6.5 (factory default) and Android custom ROM. Currently on custom ROM.
Any thoughts?
I had a similiar problem a few years ago and all i had to do was get a new sim card. I was told i had damaged my sim card some how but i was able to save the contacts, transfer them over to the new sim T-mobile gave me and I have not had another problem since.
If you have access to another phone try and insert both sim cards you have in the other phone. If you have problems in the other phone with the sim card thats not working you can safely say its the sim card thats not working correctly and not a phone issue.
Thanks for the reply Craze.
My SIM's do work as I use my Telstra SIM (that works in the HD2) in my old Nokia and my Vodafone on my Galaxy Nexus Prime.
So on the HD2, my Telstra SIM works where I'm able to receive and make calls and my Vodafone is the opposite.
Could it be the phone? I'm hoping that it is so that I can fix it.
Could it be the network providers? If so, then I'll call them which I've already done but they couldn't give me an answer as to why my Voda SIM does that in the HD2.
