Wizard or Universal? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Which one is better? The Universal or the Wizard? I now use the MDA III/Qtek 9090...
The processor and memory from the Wizard is less then the MDA III. But will that have an effect on the working of te device?

Less is more in our case. Everyone using the HTC Wizard has said the OMAP850 is rather speedy. Don't worry about the lower frequency, but party about the extended autonomy!
Your question is a little bit biased since you're in the Wizard section of the fora and I've just ordered my Wizard ( ) so I guess I'll suggest you buy Wizard as well unless you are serious about making use of the extra features of the Universal (UMTS, videocalls, and the bigger screen).

Tnx for you quick respons. So the difference in process speed Wizard - Universal: 200 / 400 and the difference in memory: 64 and 128 isn't a big problem for you?
Is the device crashing often/frequently? Do you have to wait a long time when starting programs or opening files?
This is my experience with my Qtek 9090 after installing win05 on it.

I would get a wizard too! I tried to put a universal in my pocket and felt like a had a wallet with 200 euro inside it.
Wizard is speedy indeed. I dont think its any slower then my magician, after modding the extended rom.
On both devices you got a keyboard and wifi, but wizard is nice and small.
Ik zou dus de wizard nemen

make a 2k5 rom for wizard and i'll buy it. w/o persistent storage for wizard, i think universal is better. just my opinion.

the memory is the same on both devices

What do you mean? There is a difference: Processor: 200 / 400
Memory: 128 / 64?

No, the JASJAR has 128MiB ROM/ 64MiB RAM. The K-JAM has 128MiB ROM/ 64MiB RAM.
The only difference is the processor, and since they are different technologies (I want to say different architectures, but thats not the correct word)... you cant compare them on clock speed alone.

JASJAR and K-JAM both have the same ROM and RAM capacity. The JASJAR runs on an Intel XScale processor at 520MHz, a single-core CPU. The K-JAM runs on a TI OMAP 850 processor at 195MHz, a multi-core CPU. It has been proven (and based on firsthand experience) that the K-JAM performs on par with a 400MHz XScale CPU on many tasks, since the processor's focus is on power, not speed.
There is a moderate size difference, too. Some will say it's not much, while others will say it's a big difference. Those who are very much on-the-go will appreciate the smaller screen and lighter weight (160g) of the K-JAM, versus the larger screen and heavier weight (280g?).
Lastly, depending on your region of the world, you might appreciate the JASJAR's UMTS technology and 900MHz support, both of which are not supported in the United States. If you live in the US, the K-JAM's 850MHz support and EDGE technology make it a great unit to have.
Did I mention that the JASJAR is big?

Size of the unit compared to other devices

Hi I'm thinking of buying an XDA Exec but I was wondering about it's size. Could anyone post some images of size comparison with other phones/PDA's?
I currently have an Nokia 6680, K750i and a HX4700..
Also just reading around there seems to be quite a lot of issues with the battery life, typically how long does it last for? Can it be improved via ROM updates?
Thanks
Although I don't think it's that much bigger than others (I had an alpine before) it does feel bigger because it has no rounded edges and is thicker due to the keyboard. It is much heavier than an alpine.
For pictures you can look up a review on google, I can't remember the site I saw it on.
Have you tried going down to a phone store and asking to have a look at one?
No one sells it near by
Before I got mine, I was reading about how big it is, how poor the battery life is, but for me the experience has been a good one.
Firstly, size wise, it's quite neat. I have an old pocket pc HP Jornada, and it's about the same size, but slightly thicker. It's a little on the heavy side, but nothing extreme and for the functionality, it has been very much worth it for me.
Battery life, I get around 5 hours continous usage average, when connected the phone network or WIFI (I always stay connected whether at home or away) and do various tasks, including browsing, music/video streaming, terminal services, VNC and such (although I'm not a game player), with the sound on. I charge it up when I get home, or when I get back to my laptop (charge over USB) and I've never had it run out on me, so I'm pretty happy with it. However, I don't have too much experience in the mobile market, so I'm not used to anything else.
Hope this helps

Here is a comparison shot with a Playstation Portable and a T-Mobile SDA which is pretty much standard size Smartphone. Hope this helps!
Here it is compared to a few other devices. Left to right: Audiovox SMT 5600 (HTC Typhoon), Palm Treo 650, Qtek 9000 (HTC Universal), Palm LifeDrive, Dell Axim X3i, Palm Tungsten E.
Thanks that was really useful!, I'm going to bit the bullet and order one now... at the end of the day every phone has it's weakness and after spending days reading review etc i think I'll give this a try..
You'll never look back. But if you do, it'll only be to stick two fingers up at the trans-dimensional quantum version of you that chose the Nokia N73.

Hi
How big is resolution ?
is it just me or do all these photos look photo shopped? it seems like ive seen all these pics before as just the diamond...
why do the new devices from HTC use all VGA? Available software is mostly optimized for QVGA or am i wrong and all QVGA-Apps also work on this device
I know what PHone i want next now... lol...
when does this come to the US ???
it will probably be out in shops by mid summer
i noticed, sizewise, it's a little smaller than TyTN II
TyTN II is 112x59x19
Diamon Pro is 102x51x18
plus it weighs less: 165 gramms compared to tytn ii 190 g.
This is the perfect upgrade to my mogul
isnt this phone working on cdma only?
as far as I can remmber it is only cdma!
if not

Which phone to replace my Universal

I have loved this phone but it is getting too tired and I need something up to date with more power and storage. Alas HTC don't seem to be doing anything comparable.
The latest Athena is too big for me and anyway no UK network seem to be providing it?
The Kaiser seems neat but the screen is too small, any thoughts anyone?
Jon
I have a Jasjar too but I dont think there is any replacement for it yet. Its a powerhouse truely meant for corporate people or the people who love to experiment.
Stick with JasJar (Uni, O2 Exec etc), give it a ROM upgrade, new body if you feel it looks too rough and enjoy. I know I am sticking with mine, especially considering I fully assembled it from parts, so now it's my baby in more ways than one
I hawe set the same question on another forum.
And the answer was the same.
No one has the will or space to carry Shift or Athena they are just too big.
Uni is the biggest thing i can wear in my pants expect my JoyStick offcourse.
I heard today that Htc is planning to release 10new devices this year so we can only hope there will be something like Universal Enchanced like they done whit Advantage.

I'm now using a T-mobile Vario III (Kaiser) as a replacement for my Exec and I'm very pleased with it. Yes the screen is smaller but it's improved clarity along with the general ease of use of the device means it's not too much of a disadvantage for me.
I'm still keeping my Exec though, it makes an excellent satnav and micro-laptop.
The only phone that can match the power and specs of the HTC Advantage X7510 & Athena as of now is the Samsung Omnia: http://samsungomnia.com/
You can check youtube for the videos and see how fast this baby works. Not to mention it supports DIVX and XVID movies out of the box, with a 5MP camera.
...
Since Samsung is contracted to make a phone that is quite similar to another phone the resemblance is uncanny isn't it?
Omnia have a latest PXA320 processor which default speed is up to 800 MHz, a 256 KB L2 cache, and a 32-bit DDR memory interface, that is more powerful with comparation of qualcomm bulls***s
how about my recommendation

The Sony Xperia is a solid, well designed phone, but one thing I noticed from watching all the videos of the demo use of the Xperia in youtube, IT IS REALLY VERY SLOW. So unless they can do something with the speed before it's release, they can't convince me to buy this phone.
wow...
its seem we got another friends from sony ericsson that hv window mobile as its os...
Hi - there's another discussion about this going on that's worth a read:

at least I like it much more than sony experia

Blackstone, here comes Firestone!

Hey fellas, considered getting an aussie Blackstone.then my evil side says checkout pdadb,up pops the Firestone 100!! says it will replace T8282.600mhz CPU w/1000 max overclock.10/09 release.crap, it isnt even spring!!! evil says 50 usd from wife to hidin spot.that aussie Black still looks good though!
i didn't even understand your post sorry.
As far as i can tell, the only major upgrade is the 8mp camera, other than that, the screen is downgraded. The processor is faster by about 80 Mhz but again, who cares. If they don't provide the drivers then it's wasted potential anyways.
Knowing the camera off the HD, i don't think anyone will care about the 8mp camera on the Firestone.
I have a HD and absolutely agree with Post # 2 above. Personally I will wait till WM 6.5 is out and I have seen actual user reviews and also compatibility of my existing programs with 6.5. By that time I am sure HTC would have come up with a model which I can call a real upgrade to the HD. Just my views
I'm really hoping for a Tegra successor to the Blackstone with the same screen size (I believe Blackstone hit the sweet spot, Toshiba TG01 is waaaay too big).
Before that arrives, I think I'm good with what I have.
The OP didn't make any sense.
But just FYI the Chip used is a SnapDragon clocked @ 600Mhz.
is this the firestone

It is a WiMaX handset... nothing special about it
Processor -- Qualcomm ESM7206A clocked at 528MHz
Memory -- 288MB of RAM, 256MB ROM, and 8GB of flash storage
Display -- 3.6-inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution
Cameras -- 5 megapixel main camera with secondary VGA-resolution camera for videoconferencing
Wireless:
WAN -- Tri-band (900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GPRS/EDGE and Yota Mobile WiMAX (2.5 to 2.7GHz)
WLAN -- 802.11b/g
PAN -- Bluetooth 2.0
GPS
FM receiver
Other I/O:
3.5mm headphone jack
miniUSB port
Video output (connector unspecified, but likely uses special dongle attaching to USB port)
Dimensions -- 4.46 x 2.48 x 0.54 inches (113.5 x 63.1 x 13.9mm)
Weight, with battery -- (151g)
HTC are shipping out to many phones to close to each other with no great improvement between them all.
Personally I would wait till WM 6.5 is released, let some cook do his thing then flash it onto your Blackstone. Why waste money on a new phone which isn't any better than the one you have!
Think I'll wait a while until something really special is released, until then I'm gonna sit on the blackstone!

IMO, not that innovative. CPU and Camera upgrade, that's all.

Touch Dual II ?

There has been a lot of noise on the internet concerning HTC's roadmap for the near future, device-wise, but I don't think I've seen anything with a vertical phonepad slider like our beloved Niki.
Does anyone know if they have plans to release a successor in this form ?

Happy April Fools' Day!
I dont belive it. It looks like modified Touch DIamond2 with added hardware keyboard just like in Niki.
Looks awesome though! But yes I really wish HTC would come out with a successor for the Touch Dual. I'd buy it in an instant. Any one heard anything about this yet?
I think the phone that comes closest is the Touch Pro, albeit with a side-slider instead of a bottom-slider.
That's the thing though -- the Touch Pro comes with a QWERTY keypad as opposed to the dual which has a numeric T9 keypad style which is what I'm more accustomed to.
It state very clear is "april fool jokes" ...

April Fool's Joke 2009!!
I would love A HTC Dual II please HTC Get it done.
There's a similar device in the HTC pipeline! Check out the Roadmap 2009 and you will probably get the HTC internal name of it!
which one? i went thru the 2009 pipeline and didn't see anything with a slide out numeric keypad similar to the dual, quite disheartening
Take a look here:

The Tachii or Victor_CT could be the Touch Dual II since they have a 2,8" Display!
certainly hoping!
I did email HTC but only got a 'no current information' auto-reply.
I could get an HD or 3G or Diamond even as an upgrade on my Orange UK account but I'm not sure I'd be really happy without the phonepad slider. I don't know how long I can last without a new toy to play with though !
Anyone having similar thoughts ?
I dont know about you, but for me it should more like IV...
I - Blue Angel:
II - Nike:
III - Juno:
There are others that slide sideways, but thats a different story.
Erm twolf, the Juno is a real Smartphone!
:O what a waiste of a big screen...
Man, a Touch Dual upgrade would be so sweet. Why are they stalling on it so much? I've no idea of figures but I assume that there is still a huge portion of sales based on the 16/20 key keyboard availability
