Problem with ClearType in Landscape mode (XDA Mini) - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I'm using XDA Mini. When I turn ClearType ON in Settings/System/Screen and OS displays ClearType Font in Portrait mode only. When I'm in Landscape mode, system font is displayed same as ClearType OFF.
Is there anyone got same problem?

I've already found the answer by myself: to turn on ClearType in Landscape mode of WM2003SE modify this DWORD value:
HKLM/System/GDI/ClearTypeSettings/OffOnRotation=0
:lol:
But why does Bill Gates turn it off by default?

Cleartype in landscape?

Jus wondering if anyone knew how to activate cleartype in landscape mode? Im using the Segoe font from WM5 as not only does it look great but its also a bit smaller. The problem is it only looks nice when cleartype is on. Everything is fine in portrait mode but the font looks messed up in landscape.
Any ideas?

There's a small utility that I found called TwkCL.exe that you can place in the windows\startup directory to run on start up and that enabled cleartype in landscape mode.
(I didn't write this - I have used it on my MDA Compact, but I'm not going to give any guarantees that it'll work for everyone/every unit)
PS....can you tell me where you got the Segoe font from? I might like to give it a go.....
Cool it works, thanks
I also found this:
A few days ago, one user complained about unavailability of ClearType in Landcape mode on MDA Compact. If you switch modes, the ClearType is automatically turned off and you cannot turn it on. However, if you really want it, you can enable it using the following registry hack:
1. In registry, search for the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\ClearTypeSettings.
2. Set value OffOnRotation to 0.
3. This hack needs a soft reset to be activated. Then, ClearType will remain turned on even in Landscape mode.
Here's the proof
P.S. There is also the Gamma key in the GDI key with Gamma Value value. I guess that it sets the brightness of ClearType. Default value is 1500 - when I changed it to 500, the font was significantly darker...

Where did you get the Segoe font from
and how do I aply it to my device?
Do I simply go to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\SYSFONT'
and change 'Tahoma' to the file name of any given font on my device?
Well?
When u learn some manners maybe i'll tell you!

What do you mean? :-s
It is rude to demmand. "Please" and "thank you" go a long way.
I wasn't demanding, I was asking.

Vario II & landscape mode

Hi, is there a way to fix the device to show in landscape mode instead of having to set it all the time.
How so - you mean set it to landscape and then prevent the auto-rotation on slider open/close?

Thats correct.
Try this thread and let me know if it works.
I have another solution if it doesn't.

I am not sure, but Schab's configuration tools (package) contains tool to rotate screen seqentialy in all 4 directions. i have it on my X7500.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
Edit: Yest there is such a tool in the package.
There's an icon in HTC HomePlug on the X7501 to do this... Is this lacking in the WM5 ROM on the X7500?
not to fear boinger66 I is here.... so i could not fine the program but i did find this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION]
Change the Value of "Angle" to the
dword:00000000 or dword:00000360 -> Portrait Mode
dword:00000090 -> Landscape(Right-Handed)
dword:00000180 -> Portrait Up-side Down
dword:00000270 -> Landscape (Left-Handed)

Hi Boringer66,
Another program that does this is pBar. This neat little utility is also a task manager, comm manager, launcher, and battery meter. It's free too. Google xda pBar,and you are it right away.
Regards.
Edit: sorry, this may not suit you. It rotate three ways only. Not four.
hmm darn ok thanks ...
im using schabs right now
i kinda just wanted a quick reg hack like the rotate on the tray app would be awesome

startUp in Landscape mode

i was wondering, if anybody has done that. i want my Universal, to startUp in Landscape mode and not in Portrait mode. my car holder holds the Universal in Landscape Mode, so it would be nice if the device would startup in landscape mode as well does anybody know how to do that ?? searched the forums, also tried to find any registry value for that, but no luck (or no knowledge) thank you in advance

It gives you an extra option in Control Panel that lets you select if the display is Landscape or Portrait.

You can use Gyrator or GSen to do that
Yes, this is not automatic it just re-enable the standard screen panel to manually select orientation.

please advise, how, would love to be able to work on documents etc in landscape (auto switch) mode if possible.
Peter.
As apd said for the automatic rotation you can use Gyrator or GSen. Otherwise with this you can start your app and then manually rotate the screen from the control panel.
just tried this and it says "access denied" when i edit the value data and change the 1 to 0
am i missing something?
Steve
used resco regedit ... works!
wow. This is really nice. Thanks! now I don't need the gyrator!
I can find nothing new after manipulating the registry.
Where can i exactly find the option in control panel?
In the Screen menu. If you still can't see the option, try a soft reset.
excellent find. thnx for sharing!
any program to change that or a cab file ??
thanks
Ill try this on the diamond to see if it works.
I wish I could try it with the demo phone @ the store (touch HD) before buying it.
I tried the registry edit on the demo Touch HD at the store.
The problem is that it keeps reverting back to portrait mode after accessing the phone menu.
So it will remain perfectly in landscape mode till I try to enter a phone number.
The phone menu is vertical, then it remains vertical.
Any info?
thanks.
