Set IP-port for GPRS - Networking

Hi!
I just got my settings instructions from my provider. They are pasted below. Now, is there anyway of setting the IP-port as they request. Or (perhaps) is the IP-port by default 9201?
GPRS data
IP-Adress: 010.010.010.010
APN: wap.djuice.se
Username: 46 and phone number
Åassword: 46 and phone number
IP-Port: 9201
I've tried this but can't get it to work. I'm afraid that it has something to do with the IP-port...
Any suggestions???
Thanks in advance,
Fred

never seen any grps connection where it's not setup to
Use server assigned IP adress
under advanced in ones GRPS entry
are you sure that you have to use a static IP ?
it does seem a bit odd

Thanks Rudegar,
Hm, tested to remove the IP-adress and then he connect to the network. But I still can't get to any webpage or sign in to MSN.... Looks like the DNS-lookup is not working properly.
Very odd...
Anybody here that is using an XDA-equivalent with Swedish Djuice???
Or does anybody else have any ideas???
Thanks in advance,
Fred

about dns then i use user
server-assigned addresses also under advanced
dont know the phonecompany you use though

OK!
Thanks for your help so far, Rudegar.
/Fred

Got it working!
I changed the APN to internet.djuice.se and removed the fixed IP. I also used 'dj' as username and 'dj' as password.
So for all Swedish users with Qtek 2020 and djuice, just use these settings.

Vodafone + blackberry config

Wonder if anyone can help.
Got my blackberry XDA II on vodafone sim working - ie delivering emails - great.
One problem though I can't seem to access the internet any more - anyone know what the issue is?
Vodafone say it's not a provisioning issue - which I guess leaves a Connection setting issue - tried loads of different variations but with no sucess.
Any ideas? Anyone else got this config working?
I am using the 1.72.181 ROM with the Balckberry client on an XDA 2 in the US with t-mobile. Assume for the title of your message that your are also on this ROM. If that is the case you have to "stop" the blackberry client and then use the Voda internet connection APN to get to get to the internet. Are you doing that or trying to go to the internet while the blackberry client is connected?
Yes - using that ROM. When you say stop the BB service does that mean switch it off in Settings...? Or just get the XDA to connect to a different network?
To be clear could you tell me how many and which Connections you have in your My Connections?
I've got 2 - one with the original Vodafone APN settings and another with the blackberry.net settings + XDA is set to autopick...
Yes, I turn off the Blackberry Client by double clicking on the Today screen icon. This brings up settings and I select stop. Can restart again via "settings" menu...
I believe the crux of the problem is that the Blackberry has its own APN and it is not possible to add the regular data APN on the same account (at least not with TMO in the USA) So you have to access the internet via the Blackberry APN. I use: wap.blackberry.net in the USA. Just recently the internet connection stopped working, and now I have to use a proxy server to get to the intenert via the Blackberry APN. I am using: 216.155.165.50 There may be a similar need when using the Vodaphone Blackberry APN in the UK...
Hope this helps

Help with using the pc software for the blackberry
Hi guys
I have update my rom to have the Blackberry on it and also downloaded the pc software to config it.
But when i run the pc software to setup the Blackberry it keeps saying make sure it is in the cradle or that the software is on to which the answer is yes to both.
Has anyone any clues or hints on how to get them to talk
Thanks
Thanks for your help Chris - tried that unfortunately not working from UK... One question - did you set up your connection as your work connection? It would really help me if you could take the time to just send me your exact connections settings..
Anyone else know what the proxy address might be for the Vodafone in the UK?
Hi "Mr Vulture"
Yes, I am using the "My Work Connection" side. I think I am right in saying that you have to use that side to use a proxy server. So as far as connections go its as follows:
I set this connection up under "My Work Network" as:
Modem: Cellular GPRS
APN: wap.voicestream.com
User Name:
Password:
Then, under "Edit My Proxy Settings/Proxy Settings" I have both boxes checked ("This network connects to the internet" and "This network uses a proxy server"
Then Under "proxy server" I have: 216.155.165.50.
Then hit the "Advanced" button. This take you to the server settings. Here I have:
HTTP: 216.155.165.50 Port: 8080
WAP: 216.155.165.50 Port: 8080
Secure WAP:
Socks: 216.155.165.50 Port: 1080
Type: Socks 4
Finally, under "settings/connections/advanced" g to "select networks" and under "Programs that auotomatically connect to internet...." select " My Work Network"
Also check out this thread for more info on this topic.

Let me know how you get on

Chris - thanks very much for your help. I tried all your settings and still nothing....so thought I'd try helpdesk *again*
And it seems that despite assuring me twice previously that I had both the Blackberry and GPRS provisioning - seems like they got it wrong - grrrr. One swish of their magic wand and it's all working.
Thanks again for all you help - it got me to the point where I knew *I* wasn't doing something wrong.
John.
Hi John
Glad you have got it working. Seems Voda have gone one better than TMo US, whi informed me that it was impossible to provision the regular Data Plan APN AND the Blackberry Data APN on the same account/number. Maybe I should try my luck with TMo customer care again...!
Regards
Chris
Know what - think they told me that too - but I'm guessing its a commercial policy rather than a technical issue...and seems I got someone who didn't know the policy - what a shame
Have a good weekend and thanks again for the help.
John.
Hi John
I think you are probably right. I wnet into a Cingular store last night, and they said they could do it, no problem. I'll give TMo another go
Regards
Chris
PS Have you figured out how to get some additional kind of audible alert for when a Blackberry message comes in? All I get right now is a single, very quiet "beep". Blackberry does not show up under "Sounds and Notifications", so I have not been able to figure out if there is another way to. Any thoughts..?
Folks, i have mails push to my xda II but no sound? I cant seem to find anywhere where i can set a sound when mails are being push to my set? Any clue?
Same question asked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13839
ok.. i replaced the default.wav with another sound file.. worked..
Hi Tripartite
That sounds like a reasonable fix. A couple of questions:
1. What folder is the default.wav file in?
2. Do you have to rename the new wave file you want to use as "default.wav" for it to work?
Many Thanks
Chris
the file is in My Device/Windows folder.
Yes, got to overwrite it..
Great! Many Thanks. Also, is there a way of controlling the volume of this sound? Would that be a function of how high you have the "system" sound set or something else?

3 GPRS settings

I'm having trouble trouble connecting my O2 Exec to the 3 network. The phone works fine, but I don't have the settings for the GPRS side of things. Cann anyone help?
I need the APN, username and password.
Thanks in advance.
Try:
APN: three.co.uk
Username: 1
Password: 1
Excellent, thanks! OK, so now I am able to surf the internet properly, but I still can't access my emails the way I could before on o2.
I am using 1&1 as my email server and have no trouble with o2, WLAN, etc, but cannot connect to the server when using the 3 dial-up.
Any ideas?
Try:
POP3: pop.1and1.co.uk
SMTP: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, these are the details I have, but it won't connect to the mail servers via 3. As I said, I have no problem when using WLAN or when I use my old o2 SIM, but 3 just won't play ball.
Mmm I'm looking for the UK elusive three network settings but not getting anywhere, anyone help?

gprs/networks settings for tesco-mobile

Hello all,
I've just managed to unlock (Thanks to buzz-lightyear!) my lovely uni from T-Mobile to be able to use my tesco simcard (until the vodaphone ones come through) I seem to be able to make/receive calls as I should be.
However, I got a message from tesco shortly after making my first call which said 'Your phone does not appear to be able to accept automatic settings, please call our care team on blah blah blah to resolve the problem'.
Did that and while the guy I spoke to had never heard of the handset, he provided me with a bunch of settings which I somehow need to stick into the system. They are as follows:
WAP
homepage = http://wap.tesco-mobile.com
apn address prepay.tesco-mobile.com
gateway 193.113.200.195
username tescowap
password password
port 9201
MMS
http://mmsc.mms.02.co.uk:8002
apn - prepay.tesco-mobile.com
ip = 193.113.200.195
username tescowap
password password
port 9201
Click to collapse
My question is this: Where and how do I get these settings into this phone. Is the gateway similar to the WINS? I'm not sure what I need to do here, I would dearly appreciate anyones help on this.
Also, I want to donate a few quid to buzz and here, but when I try to do it on buzz's site, the paypal site comes up in German. Any ideas there please?
Thanks very much.
Alan
I have no interest in MMS so cannot advise but about the wap/internet ...
AFAIK tesco mobile runs on O2 network. My O2 PAYG setting are as follows; settings, connections, advanced, set to my work network. Add a new modem connection. Put a name and choose "cellular line (GPRS)" Next enter apn address. Next enter username and password. Finish. Under proxy, tick "this network uses a proxy.." Put 193.113.200.195. Tap advanced and put 193.113.200.195:8080 for the first 3 and 193.113.200.195:1080 for the last. Soft reset.
If this doesn't work I would try your same APN. username and password, but without proxy.
triplejay, thanks very much!
I haven't done it yet but I have a feeling those settings are going to work. The IP address you have supplied is the same one the tesco mobile 'care team' member gave me. I didn't end up online, but I think because we didn't put a proxy in, he wasn't sure we needed one.
I'll give it a go and see what happens there.
Thanks again!
Sorry to drag this up, but has anyone else got this phone using a Tesco Mobile sim? For all I try, I cannot get MMS to work. If you do, please let me know all of the settings and where I need to put them into.
Cheers
Thanks triplejay, I followed your instructions and they are spot on. Also thanks to inksmithy for the info. Im back on the mobile web - yeha!! Good stuff fellas

3G connectivity plz help!

Those of you who are using 3G on your Uni, can you please check your settings and let me know what do I need to do in order to set up my 3G connectivity please!
I already have the following:
APN
IP Address
2 DSNs
however when I enter this information it doesn't seem to connect perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
I do have a data plan (3G) so that is not an issue which I am currently using with my iphone without any problems.
Thank you very much for your help!
Over 30 ppl read this post and none of you on 3G?
Please your help is greatly appreciated
Re 3G setting for a Uni,
Hi serjay,
Sorry for the wait I have only just come across your message. Here are the setting you need. I hope they work for you?
You can input all the settings, but I can't seem to be able to access the 3 portal.
In settings, connections tab, connections
advanced tab, select networks
new, and input the relevant info from here:
Data accounts: Create one called 3 GPRS.
APN: three.co.uk
Username:
Password:
Login request: Off
Allow calls: Automatic
IP address:
DNS address:
Authentication: Normal
Data compression: Off
Header compression: Off
MMS settings can be entered via outlook menu
gateway: http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc
proxy: 217.171.192.2
port: 8799
(account is the 3UK avvount above)
Not sure if u need to input the Video gateway.
If anyone know how to actually open the portal, plz help,
I think the problem is that the page detects what device you are using, and an exec is not on their list
secondly - use the http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/7600/HutchKey as access to the portal - just make it your homepage. this one is for nokia, it works with me.
For those who won´t get the 3Zone to work, try the following:
Using a registry editor, find the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent
then edit the default value to "Nokia6680"
reset
and then surf to the 3Zone Homepage for a nokia 6680 (ask someone who has one to find the url out)
3 Reads the "User Agent" String of the browser yourphone uses to find out which phone you have.
With the trick above you configure the Pocket Internet Explorer of your universal to convince three it is indeed a nokia6680.
So normally you only get phones to work which three has in it´s program.
Regards
Michael.

Hi Michael, thank you for your help but I was unsuccessful; perhaps I’m doing something wrong.
This is what I’ve done:
Start
Settings
Connections Tab
Connections
Advanced Tab
Select Networks
New
Entered “3 GPRS” as my ISP name
Modem Tab
New
Renamed connections to “3G”
Selected a modem: Cellular line (GPRS, 3G)
Next
Entered Access point name:
Next
Entered User name, and password
Clicked Advanced
Selected “Use specific IP address” and entered the IP
Servers Tab
Selected “Use specific server address” and entered both the DSN and Alt DSN
Ok
Finish
Soft Reset
However I still can’t connect!!!
Please if you can provide further direction; hopefully I’ve done something wrong…
Hi serjay,
Sorry for the wait I have been on short break to Kent so I have not managed to come back to you.
All I can think of when I did it on mine was I left Username and Password blank and the IP adress as well.
I am sorry I can not help you any further because I use a Nokia N95 as my mane phone now and not the PDA.
thank you Michael for your help thus far, I guess I'll keep on trying.
Thank you..

Well, you have to notice the Uni is 4 years older than Iphone, so.... it´s no too bad. Remember when Uni came out no other device can do all that Uni!!
Uni it´s like the grandpa of all the new devices, so we have it some respect as even some of the today devices are not as good as UNI

Windows Mobile 6.1 WLAN with Proxy

Hello!
I own a htc diamond and want to access a wifi network that's using a HTTP proxy. I can connect to the network itsself. However, the proxy settings aren't applied or sometimes deleted when I disactivate and reactivate wifi. When I try it at home, it can still access the internet even if I set the proxy server. (I don't have a proxy server at home, so it shouldn't work then...)
With a iPod Touch/iPhone the following settings work:
Server: server-01.hak-reutte.ac.at
Port: 8080
I also have to authenticate using an username and password, but I think there's also a web form so it's not necessary to configure that in the proxy configuration.
Thank you,
Simon

If you use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Centre verify the connection settings are NOT set to automatic. If they are then the Proxy settings are overwritten each time you connect to your PC to sync. If you want to use a proxy over WiFi then you need to make sure your 'Work' connection settings specify the proxy and you need to configure the WiFi settings to 'Connects to Work' (or whatever it says, but NOT 'Internet').
Andy
Hi ADB100!
Thanks for your answer. The problem occurs even when I'm not connected to ActiveSync. Somehow the proxy server is reset when the WLAN is used. I tried the application WmWifiProfiles, but the problem is still there. When I set the proxy server and exit the settings application, the settings for HTTP proxy are somehow not saved. (When I reopen the settings dialog, the http proxy setting is blank, but the proxy for socks is still there.)

Simon

Do you have proxy auto-discovery on?
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
EnableAutoDetect=00000001
If its set to 1 then proxy auto-discovery is enabled, 0 is disabled.
I have no idea if it is this but worth a shot?
Andy
Hi ADB100!
AutoDetect wasn't acticated. (The key didn't exist.) I tried creating the key with value 0 and 1, but didn't help.
I think this must be a bug, because there are a lot of topics about this problem. Unfortuntatly, nobody seems to have a solution for this problem .
I tried changing the registry keys in HKLM/Comn/ConnMgr/Providers/. That worked, because the internet connection was dead then . I think it's possible to work around the problem by changing this keys. I will try that next week and when that really fixes the problem, I'll probably release an application for it.
However, do have some ideas left?
Thanks,
Simon
Bizarre....
I have never seen this on any of the Windows Mobile PDA's I have had.
I know if the connection settings: 'This computer is connected to:' are set to anything other than 'Automatic' then it resets any proxy you configure. I have mine set to 'Work Network' and the settings are never overwritten. I use a proxy at home and remember playing around with these settings as I had similar issues initially.
I know there is a known issue of the 'Hidden Proxy' if you let the device configure itself using the 'Connection Setup'. I have never let my device do this and have manually configured the HSDPA/GPRS settings.
Andy
Hi ADB100!
I've also aborted the connection setup, cause I didn't want my device to use HSDPA automatically.
I'm not 100% sure but I think my old device (HTC S730) had also some problems with the proxy, but I was able to solve them. Maybe it's also a problem with my ROM.
How stable/fast are the current RC builds of 6.5? Are they ready for every day use?
Thank you,
Simon

I haven't tried any 6.5 ROMs for any period of time as they all seemed too buggy. I am on an almost stock 5.2.19212 ROM that I have lightly customised in a kitchen and I am happy with it.

This is really annoying... When you search the forums for "wifi proxy" you'll get more than 10 threads with the same problem, but without a solution.
You are using a wifi router with proxy at home and it works, right?
I'll upgrade to 6.5 now, maybe this fixes the problem...
Thanks,
Simon

Yes, I have MS ISA 2006 and it works.....
Truely amazing. I've upgraded to 6.5 and the problem is still there :-(. I've the radio from the latest official diamond rom. Could an other radio fix the problem?
//edit: Just to describe my problem further: When I set the proxy, exit the dialog and reopen the dialog, the proxy is there. When I open the internet explorer then, the http proxy gets deleted. However, the socks proxy is kept. This is kind of frustrating...
Thanks,
Simon
Read this one: http://www.htc.com/www/faqs.aspx?p_id=13&cat=0&id=36792 According to this article wifi + proxy should not work. What can I do now?
// Update: This looks extremly promising: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1990412#post1990412 I'll try that immediatly and post the results. If that works, I'll build an application to simplify applying the fix.
Thanks,
Simon
My status is too. Please help me!
It's a bug, that's sure. I finally got the proxy working, but after reconnecting the proxy settings were blank again .
Just to let you know I was also having problems with proxies and a google led me to this thread. For me, the advice in post 2 worked perfectly. I am using a 6.5 rom on a Touch HD.
Hi SivEd!
Did you also have the problem that your proxy settings get reset when you reconnect to the wifi network?
I've written an app that resolves this issue, let me know if you want to test.
Hi Anks!
Please upload your app, this is a real problem for me.
Thanks,
Simon
Simon, sent you a PM.
The problem seems to be fixed in recent Windows Mobile 6.5 builds, at least for me. I'm using build 21812. Unfortunatly, proxy authentification seems not to work in Opera. In Internet Explorer a dialog appears where I have to enter my username and password. Opera doesn't display such a dialog. But the main problem (proxy setting gets deleted) has been resolved.
HTH,
Simon
