Writing SMS with standard mode with one hand? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Very often I have to write an SMS with one hand, but it is impossible with Qtek 2020.
I would like to find a software where you can write an SMS with the standard mode (like on normal GSM) with standard numbers 1-9 with letters on them.
I use D9 to find the contact and I think it is very usefull.
When you find a contact and you tap the SMS button near the number it should be very appriciated to have a standard GSM input letter mode (like T9) instead of default SMS client of WM.
Do someone know if a software like this exists?
Thanks for the answer,
Urosh

GO to www.yorch.net and look under "software".

I' don't find any software I described before.
Please let me know which one do you think do what I said.
Thanks,
Urosh

I apologise, I thought it was on yorches site, here is the link for you, it is a superb piece of software and it is FREE. Anybody else wants a brilliant sms program make sure you get it too.
http://www.handango.com/PlatformSea...siteId=1&txtSearch=designlab&zsortParams=true
I just found a bug in this program when running on xda2, if you push "select" button when entering phone number it gives an error, but ig you spend a little time inserting all your often used numbers you can use the drop down becuase it remebers the last 20 numbers that you have used, its worth a little time to set it up becuase it saves a lot of time in the long run.

Actually it's not working at all with my mda ii It says: message sent successfully, but later on-message not delivered Do you have any idea what I could be doing wrong? Is there a special format in which I have to put the number of receipient?

i think, only way is spb fullscreen keyboard or typeango ..

It's working fine on my XDA-II with T-Mobile ROM 1.60. The only thing is that if I am trying to send to local mobile number I have to enter the number with '+', country code etc. while I could use 'short' number with ordinary mobile phone.

Ok, that seemed to do the trick. Tnx a lot, it's working now flawlessly. But, I still have another question -how do you input "+" directly from the SMSwriter. "+" is on the same key as the "0" and whatever I do I keep getting "0". Of coarse, I could call up the keyboard but for that would again need a stlyus

Its a serious shortcoming, its a pity somebody couldnt patch on the ability to select searchwhich would bring up the contacts list, any offers from you programmers please???

unfortunately, found no way around it, I used to enter '+' with soft keyboard using a pen. The only temporary solution which comes to my mind is the list of numbers used to send SMS already (there should be some 25 numbers kept).

For me is impossible to use this software only with my fingers.
It has too small dialogue boxes (to find the contact).
For me the best solution would be to have a D9 program that integrates a SMS client which has the same keypad which is at the start of the program (with big buttons) to write to message (when the contact has just been selected).

Accessing Info in SMS messages???

In my old Nokia, if someone sent me an SMS with a contact number in it I could simply click on the number and the phone would automaically dial it. With The XDA I can't do anything with contact numbers that are sent via SMS, not even copy and paste to create a new contact for example. Is there any software out there (don't mind paying) that anyone could recommend.
Cheers.
C'mon guys someones gotta know
re: subject
Some Assistance would be greatly appreciated
i've searched the forums but am still none the wiser, can someone put me out of my misery?
hmm
On my XDA2 I can just highlight text within the message then select edit->copy and it's in the clipboard.

That would be the WHOLE sms though.
As a former Nokai stalwart, I know exactly what the OP means though.
If the sms body contained a number, a clever option existed to "use number".
You could then either call it, soave it, sms it, or whatever.
Another benefit was the ability to INSERT a number into the body of a message easily.
This can be done in a roundabout way on the XDA, but not anything like how easy on the Nokia.
A shame, if you ask me, but I have found no way around the "use number" restriction on my XDA either.
Well.
On my XDA2 (which, perhaps incorrectly, I assume, is essentially identical to everyone elses) I can highlight the number with keyboard mode on, select edit->copy, then press the green button to get the dialer up and select edit->paste and it pastes the number ready to "talk".
I'm fully aware of the effeciency of the "use number" facility having had decent Nokias for years and although this solution isn't nearly as fast it does work. For me at least.

Eureka!
Quality mate- pure quality.
Where I was going wrong (which is probably fair comment, as it seems there is no consistancy accross the XDA2), is by highlighting the number, and then tapping and HOLDING on the highlighted text, expecting an option to be in the pop up context menu, to copy the text.
It ISN'T, but this is confusing, because for other aspects of using the XDA2, this IS how you would do it.
As you say, if you highlight the text, then tap on Edit, down at the bottom left corner, you CAN then copy the text.
Quality!
This is a Godsend on Orange, because unlike O2, where you yourself need to dial 1471 to see if you missed a call when switched off etc, Orange send a free text message to you, with all the numbers you missed contained in it - a MUCH better way of doing it, cos if you could copy the number (which I now know you can), you can ring back the number, save it to contacts, or even just get it to 'part dial' to see who the caller was, if it's in your phonebook, before quickly hanging up.
So cheers mate - like you say, still not as good as the old Nokia way, but good enough for me.
Thanks

Yeah, indeed a good tip!!

Please... How do I make a shortcut to get to call forwarding

Just got my new Orange M3100 (Tytn) and I'm having problems with trying to forward incoming calls to another number. I have to divert and cancel divert often during the the working day and could do with a short cut to the settings call forwarding page. I don't seem to be able to make one... Could anyone advise...
Also trying to do similar with Bluetooth settings as I swap my BTheadset between phones just as frequently. I have found a link on this site to a utility to do that but not had chance to try it yet...
Can I just make a shortcut to that as well ??
Apart from that it appears a excellent device, running Tomtom etc without any problems....
Thanks in advance Phil
All the ways I tried to create such a shortcut do not work, because it requires an USSD "call". I asked WM5NewMenu author to implement USSD handling, will see...
For now the best solution I've found is to assigh speed dial keys in the dialer to USSD sequencies to divert and cancel diverts. It's OK for a while because speed dial keys can be easily accessed with one hand only (green phone button, then arrow left or down).
EDIT: In case you don't know USSD sequences... You'd better consult your operator to be sure. For me:
Divert all calls: **21*number_to_divert_to#
Cancel divert of all calls: ##21#
There are also codes for conditional diverting, of course.
Hi Phil,
What Lurker0 has mentioned is a good idea. You can save those strings as a number in a contact and maybe assign a speed dial or voice tag to that contact for speed? I guess one contact to enable and another to disable. The commands Lurker0 mentions are standard over all networks.
I'm not sure if there are ways to send AT commands to the modem in the TyTN (M3100) but it is another possible way to do it if someone knows how, if not then it might be useful info to someone else.
The AT command you need to send is AT+CCFC=1,1,<number>,128,1,,, this is the number in local format (no +44) like 07968xxxxxx to enable and AT+CCFC=1,0 to disable.
Gavin.
Phonealarm may be a simpler solution as I think u can add a forward number within a profile so just switching profile from the Today screen (phonealarm skin) would do the trick...
www.pocketmax.net
I've not had any dealing with the ATM commands so to be honest I wouldn't know were to start. I've just tried to install Phone alarm in my Orange SVP
M3100 but after asking me if I need and extra language the software just locks up.. Soft restart then required....
I managed to find the directory that it was installed in, the setup prog is there but I can't find the executable file, I guess that it has not got that far !!!!
Any help please...Phil
I'd suggest to try USSD codes as the easiest and 100% working solution.
Tried the ussd numbers in the contacts list.... works very well both divert and cancel divert... Just need to setup the speed dial now, were is that manual !!
Thanks again.
Phil-w
Hi Phil,
Go into the phone skin (green button) > Menu > Speed Dial...
That's you...
Gav.
Speed Dial is also at "green phone button" then arrow left, or arrow down, or wheel down. So one hand operation is possible.
Many thanks to you both... Nice to find helpfull people on here... Phil

Phil,
I do the same and installed the O2Plus (and patch) software which tweaks the today screen and gives direct access to mutiple profiles for different forwarding options - works really slickly.
Check this forum for the .cab files
Hope that helps.

Lifechanger
i tried putting the codes in a speed dial but Tytn unhelpfully said i had to enter the sequences in from the phone pad directly. all i did was put the **21*<no># in as a speed dial. did i miss something somewhere?
If you are rooted, start a shortcut to "Activities". Scroll down to "Phone", expand that, then scroll down to "Call forwarding". Select! Easy peasy.

Caller name instead caller number in SMS

Hi folks,
TIM Brasil send me ans SMS with all calls I've lost. useful when I flying, at arrival I saw who call me.
The problem is the SMS contain the caller number, time and date, so I need to search at Contacts to discover the caller name.
Someone know a piece of software able to look at phone number inside of SMS and scan the Contact to match it, showing the name of the contact?
Best regards
Any ideas?
Here in Italy vodafone sends a similar SMS but sets the sender name to the one who attemped to phone you
In this way the phone shows automatically the name (if it has been stored in contacts)
To quickly discover who's the owner you can do two things:
1) if the message contains "This number +xxyyyyyy tried to call you..." press the down key (the number should be selected by a square box) click and your phone should start dialling that number (doing a lookup in contacts and showing the name)
2) you can remember the first numbers (excluding the international prefix) press "red phone", "green phone" (to quickly start the phone application) and use the hermes' smartdialer to quick find who's the owner.
Try using SPB Diary...
Make sure your numbers are in the international format.

In fact this work, but is not exactly what I want, because after a airplane trip the SMS has 3 or 4 numbers. So I need to call/abort 3 for times... It's not elegant way.
thanks.

but as far as I know it can't do what you're looking for.
WM developer
Hi Guys,
I'm trying again... Is there a WM developer here who could develop a little plug in to do it?
I think is not complicated, but I don't know WM development to do it.
Of course this could sold to the community.
i had once a siemens sl45 and when i had a phone number in a sms it replaced it by the name in the phonebook... i so miss that feature..... i haven't seen it on other phones since then...
I'm not alone
Finally someone understood what I'm saying.
It's very useful this feature. I'm wondering if someone could develop this.
Anybody as a volunteer?
Maybe this is what you need?

Its work - It's great
Thanks Moe,
It's exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you.

Writing SMS through phone dial dialog

Hi everyone,
if I search for a name via the dial numbers in the phone dialog (after pressing green dial button) it works fine to dial the numbers of the persons I found. But if I press the left or right key to switch between home or phone number, mail or sms, I'm not able to create SMS or mails out of this window. On my old htc artemis with wm6 but without touchFlo it worked fine and it is much more useful than going to contacts overview because of the easy searching.
Hope you understand what I try to say
Thanks for any help, Tobi
You are right. However, once name is selected (with <m>) you can tap "Menu" - "Send Text Message" to send SMS.
Hi,
You can search your contact on the sms or email screen. At the line of the phone number, you write the first words of your contact and you have the list of your repertory.
You have only to choose at which of them you want to send an sms. I think it's easiest like this !
Thanks for both of the answers
@azahidi: I found this out yesterday, you're right thats an option, but not an advance I think, menu is too inconvenient for finger control. the greatest problem is, that if I select a contact with my finger, the phone directly calls it insteat of just selecting it and giving me further options.
@pinou13: that's great, I didn't know this yet, I think that solves my problem in a way
But nevertheless, it would be great, if one could set that if I click on the contact in the dial window, instead of directly dealing the number, showing the same overview (call cell phone, call home, write mail, write sms) from the contacts window.
If someone know a solution to do so, please post it, but so far it's an alternative to do it via sms or mail menu.
Thanks, Tobi
You can solve your problem with the Spb Mobile Shell. It is very finger-friendly to use, I am happy with it, but it has to be paid after 14 days free trial. For details: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/
Hm, looks great, but that's around 10% of the phones costs. I prefer to use freeware and I rather like touchFlo, but not in that one little thing

Per call/contact caller ID settings

Is there a way, other than adding *31# infront of the stored number, to enable caller ID per contact in my 'people' tab?
My number is blocked by default (and I'd like to keep it that way for a variety of reasons) but would like to enable the ID when calling my wife and select other people. The workaround so far has been to add the code above infront of the number but then it seems SMS messages are not going thru which is less than ideal (I could add a separate number entry for messages I guess, but still).
Having looked at the Phone settings it seems I'm able to select "Contacts only" which in my mind (as a dev) means someone has already written a app (or simply extended the current Contact app) to allow for this on a per-contact basis.
Any ideas?
You can try this MagiCall
http://www.mobiion.com/
I was also looking for this.
The MagiCall features don't mention the option to set caller id per contact.
@emigrating: Did you fix it another way?
Anyone else knows a good solution?
+1 same interrest same issue.
But as time goes on you can use the following workaround: or let's say this is the way I manage it......
If you use the traditional SMS Mode and hit reply sms goes through.
This doesn't work as mentioned in Konversation Mode.
It's uncomfortable because the konversation mode is the better client...but the only way you can send sms to someone stored as *31# contact.
It seems as if the konversation mode always refers to the number stored in your contact, whereas the traditional mode refers to the number which comes with the sms.
I hope someone can fix this, or has a better workaround, I'll be interested to!!!

use MagiCall. Set up a rule: for your wife's phone #, prepend *31#, then dial.
I use it for long distance calls. For all phone # not in my home area code, prepend 1511 (chaper long distance call provider), then dial. A small problem with this: need to disable this rule when roaming in another country.
Give it a try, it is good.
I've downloaded the trial version and set up a rule for Outlook categories, just to test. Change the dialed number to #31#{phone}. When I call someone in the particular category, the MagiCall icon appears in the topbar and my device freezes....
No big problem, I restarted my device to try again.
The same thing happens. Again I take out the battery and restart the phone.
At that point the device became terrible slow somehow.
With a little patience I succeeded uninstalling the app.
Restarting again.
Fortunately, my phome is normal speed again.
Sorry, I'm not a big fan of MagiCall at this moment...
----
Edit: Just trying again, because I can't find a real alternative.
The problem seems to occur when I choose Outlook Category as filter.
Just bad luck for me by choosing that option for my first try.
The program seems to respond on other conditions.
It could be my phone only, otherwise maybe I will contact Mobiion about this..
Edit2: The problem was known and was fixed in a newer version.
So it seems to work after all
