OGS (one glass solution / fully laminated ) displays in headunits - Android Head-Units

Are there any headunits with OGS IPS displays? Or even just the display I can swap instead of the display that is in the head unit from new.
Ideally 7" 2 DIN format, but I kinda resigned and even bigger ones, in "VAG" format would be acceptable now.
I did put put matte screen protector on the top polarizer IPS screen that comes with the units and still, in the sun, it is pretty ****ty and I can see the matefoil - space - hints of what the screen is probably showing.
I do know there are no matte screen units, that is ok, I can deal with using matte screen-protector, even thought it is obviously(?) not the same as light diffusion layer being fused with top polarizer.

some time ago this was also called fully laminated
screen solution all HUs I saw so far uses on top, OGS on bottom

here you can see, probably probably OGS on the right
This is funny to me as screen on the left is being presented as better
BTW Even old brand units do not use OGS, example of non OGS using top of the line expensive brand name unigs

(this one maybe has at least semi matte top polarizer)

I remember phones about year 2010 used this type of screen, but when I was trying to find the screen to replace whatever comes with the HU I found that even 7" tablets nowadays use nonOGS again. (see picture of the two amazon fire HDs)
BTW this is how the nonOGS with matte foil OVER the top polarizer looks in the car with roof up, however with the roof down it is barelly usable - and no it is not "only" because of screen low brightness (I did measure it at 410nits). I case you do not see the issue - the color that should be black is lighter gray than gray of the car interior, and no it is not because of the light diffusion - you can see on the images above how it would look without matte foil
years ago there was option from ownice in "VAG shape", but that is not on sale anymore, but they provide nice visualization of the difference

Kickstand Case for Nexus 4

Hi!
I will use Nexus 4 for video chat and recording a video (sometimes). I am looking for a vertical kickstand case.
Vertical kickstand:

I used PureGear Hard Shell Case with Kickstand for my Gnex, and I loved it because I don't have to hold the phone for using video chat, and it just stands for recording a video (I do few silly stunts).
Why vertical? I use facetime/talk all time. It has to be vertical stand because horizontal stand will not work on facetime/talk because it would be too wierd for my friends turning their head to see me. lol
Is there a vertical kickstand case for Nexus 4?
Thank you so much!
Also looking for this or any know kickstand for the N4...
Seidio's kickstand case is in the works. Not sure when that will happen though. I can wait I always get the Active case/holster combo with my devices. Great for travel IMO.
I ordered this (ebayitem.com/350674511348) case on ebay. The photos appear to be of a real case and phone, rather than a mock-up. Once I receive it on 01/02, I'll post a brief review here.
(I actually ordered (ebayitem.com/160944505505) what appears to be an identical product at a slightly reduced price)
(Can't yet post direct links... sigh)

An update: I received the case, which is made of two parts (hard and soft). The softer part has a very strong vinyl smell which I am working to eliminate. The case fits well and is relatively light, though it adds plenty of bulk (and, I presume, protection commensurate with the extra material).
In other news, the touchscreen on my Nexus 4 gave out and I'm in the process of receiving a replacement. When I receive it, I'll post the review!

Screen is not flat

I got my note 4 for 1.5 week now and today i saw something very very odd.
The screen was off and i saw the reflection of a ceiling lightbulb in my screen and what i noticed was that at a certain spot the reflection gets deformed! like you would push too hard on the screen and you'd push that section a little deeper.
I tried to capture a photo but that didnt really work out as the camera is blinded by the reflection. It looks like the glass just isnt completely flat , like when its still liquid and cooling down you'd put your finger on it to make an indent..
Its located in the middle heightwise and about 2/3rd to the right side. I've never ever seen this before, only with my ipod touch 4g i could push the glass and it would change reflections (so it kinda bent a little bit) but it came back to how it should be when pressure was released.
I've been very careful so i have no idea how this could have occured.. should i bring it back to the store or something?
I'm not really sure what you are describing but sounds like a defect. Better try returning it before you cant.
Return it before it's too late. That spot could be ripe for problems down the road when you've run out of warranty (ie weakness in the glass.)
Mine's the same. Almost like it has ripples but only noticable when the screen's off and I look at a bright light reflected in it.
I assumed it was normal . . . Perhaps due to the 2.5D (or whatever it's called) glass production. Doesn't seem to make any difference to the display or to touch sensitivity.
Anyone else have this?
Vey vey slight ripple on mine, but it's still considered normal. 2.5D is the rounded feature at the edges of the screen where it meets the metal rim.
yea mine isnt noticeable when the screen is on, only when looking at bright reflections. I'm going to the store just so they can notice it too and maybe write it on my warranty or something
Mine isn't flat either! Remember my Galaxy Note 10.1 had a similar problem but it was only on the back cover... having the same problem on the front side is totally unacceptable to me and I will return it tomorrow!!
Problem must be that components underneath the screen is sticking up too much.

Painted X

Been wanting the colored X on the back of my phone and missed out when dbrands did the colored cut outs, and had parts of my X starting to peel off, so decided there's no better time to figure out how to color the X. Picked off the X and initially I was going to use the Testors brand of model paint. Got all the colors and got silver too so I could pick of the rest of the letters and do them as well. Along with the model paint I got some small syringes and some tiny craft needles and was going to put the paint in the grooves with the needle. Problem is, the paint in the syringe had a very tiny constant drip. The drip was slow, but too fast to get into each groove without getting some on the outside. I only managed to get the straight up and down part of the N done and had go another route. Watched a YouTube video of a guy that was coloring his Nexus 7 tablet and he had Sharpie Paint Pens. Never knew they had such an item. In his video he got pens with tips that were just a bit too big, he even says it in the video. I found a pack of pens on Amazon that had all the colors I needed with a fine tip on it. Works perfect! Here's some pics of the process, and links to get the pens to do it yourself. In the pics, it's just one layer of paint. I'm going to do more the next couple days as it dries, and then a touch of clean up if needed. The purple phone is my mom's phone. She wanted the X colored on her's too.

Genius!

Purple glitter? Whatever gets your compass to point in the right direction. Anyway, good work on the letters.
Purple is OP's mom's phone.

I guess that if you put over a dbrand skin, it'll cover the imperfections. Also dbrand includes an "M" sticker so you could choose it white and it would do a perfect match.
I'll post another pic tomorrow. Looks much better with a second layer of paint and the spots that are just outside the lines on a couple parts in the first pics is gone. Comes off easy.
NICE!! I've been looking for a way to get this done. I have a dbrandz skin with only the X showing. might have to tape it off or something though cause it's already installed and it's white.
Even if I don't like the purple glow that much, it's really nice work.
Looks cooool...

Color convergence issues

Hi all,
I've had my 6p for almost two weeks and tomorrow is my last day to return it. They will not extend buyer's remorse to a replacement unit so before tomorrow I need to decide if the issue I have is specific to my unit (get a replacement) or related to the AMOLED panel used on this phone (cancel).
The issue is that colors seem not to converge correctly, just like old CRT screens would. This is most noticeable on high contrast borders such as black text on light backgrounds, which my brain interprets as embossed text rather than nice flat text. Below is a zoomed in example showing this issue, upper borders are reddish/darker and lower ones are greenish/bright.

Anyone else seeing this? my friend's S5 has a similar thing but way less noticeable and i could probably live with it, whereas my 6p is probably too much. Yes this is my first AMOLED.
Thoughts? thanks!

You are joking? Right?
That image is blown up how much??
400%. Otherwise you wouldn't see it on a forum, but real life you can see it with no need to zoom

Phantomskinz Review

First off, I did receive a review sample for their new S9+ full body skin at no cost.
The packaging was nice, it actually impressed me. Typically, when I purchase screen protectors it comes in very minimalist tube/boxes.

I won't bore you with the screen protector application, it's pretty straight forward for a film screen. It went well, got a few random bubbles, but they should smooth out over time. The film surface is super smooth, almost glass-like, so I appreciate that, no skidding across the surface.
Now to the nitty gritty. I've never used a skin before, so I was apprehensive about my abilities to get it right. Phantomskinz has a good instructional video, so that helped.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvKWR8sptco
I laid things out and took the plunge.
It was a struggle (as a newb) to get the camera hole and charging hole/speaker/headphone jack all lined up. I would say though that this is due to my inexperience and not the product, I'm happy with the end result.
End result
I did have to really work the wrap around corner pieces to line up and adhere without wrinkles, again my lack of experience could be the culprit. Just keep working the sides with a hair dryer and they will bend to your will as needed.
Plus
2 screen protectors included, with a quality feel.
Good instructions.
There is an actual texture to the skin as opposed to others that just look like carbon fiber.
Minus
The skins really want to stick to the surface when lining things up
Skins do not protect the actual camera lens, this is true of all skins however.
At the end of the day, this is a quality product, I would highly recommend. I had purchased a different screen protector, but now it's going to sit in the closet.
It's all good, thanks. Just took a few days (which is normal).

Nice job with the installation :good:
If the screen protector bubble hasn't worked itself out, send us a DM and we will help you figure out what went wrong before you use the second screen protector that was included
Thanks for the review!
