I assume there's no chance to find that out as you have no ADB access in that mode. Probably necessary to use Odin to flash latest stock firmware.
That you may be able to find on several sites or using samfirm_reborn on a Windows PC.

Well TMK is Metro By T-Mobile (formerly Metro PCS).
And it has bootloader 2. So its gonna be running Metro firmware, something like A205USQU2A__ __ __

Ive tried the latest firmware from metro (tmk) and odin fails within 1-2 seconds, then it pops up on the screen in red SECURE CHECK FAIL : (BOOTLOADER) and on odin it says shoot.bin param.bin fail. If i use HOME CSC itll show passed but just puts the phone in bootloop samsung logo.

when it tries to boot into recovery, screen turns blue with android guy then this pops up from the bottom and then shuts off, all in about a half a second.

There's something you're not telling us.
The bootloader is not part of the CSC files at all. So it's impossible for it to give a bootloader FAIl with regular CSC but not with HOME CSC. So either you downloaded the wrong firmware, or it was a corrupted download or extraction, or something else

Theres nothing i aint telling u guys. I bought the phone for $20 with the screen stuck on saying to use the verizon update repair assistant thing, which obviously didnt work. I tried odin and failed immediately, tried again but tried the HOME CSC and within 3 seconds it showed PASSED and i was like YESSS! The phone rebooted to the samsung splash and i thought it was good, then it powered off and restarted, and bootlooping ever since. Ill upload a video if its possible on here. Im not holding back anything from u guys. Ask me anything that would help u guys out on figuring this thing out with me. I would much appreciate all the help i can get, mainly to learn but at the same time to get the phone working.

Ill show u video of using odin with csc and fail and poping up secure check fail bootloader in red lettering on the phone. If i use the HOME CSC itll say PASSED but just puts the phone in bootloop. And when its bootlooping, ill try holding the button combination for recovery and thats when itll bootloop the recovery. Well actually itll flash for a half second over and over for a couple minutes and then itll just stop and turn off im guessing it does when it stops looping.

Well if it mentioned Verizon, then sounds like it was running Verizon firmware.
So download a bootloader 2 Verizon firmware instead, and try flashing the entire thing, with regular CSC and USERDATA

Even tho when in download mode is says CARRIER: TMK
Should i try verizon as u suggested?

As I said:
"Well if it mentioned 'Verizon repair assistant', then sounds like it was running Verizon firmware."

Ok, let me do some research on what a bootloader is and see where i can download from and ill give that a try. Ill post the results shortly.

Just for kicks, i tried flashing the newest tmk firmware and odin just stopped after shoot.bin.lz4 and on top box it says Set Partition
Does this tell us anything or mean anything helpful?

What version of Odin are you using?

Ive tried v3.14.4 and v3.14.1 and v3.13.1_3B and v3.12.7
Ive thought about download every single version and try em one by one. Same with firmwares, i just want to download the newest 3 of each carrier and just start trying em one by one with one version, then repeat with the next version, and so on in hopes that itll eventually hit one and finally fix it. Im willing to buy software to fix this problem as well as other phones too, but i cant seem to find that right one that can do it all.

Afaik at least Verizon devices usually have locked bootlaoders so idk wht will happen if you flash that onto a none Verizon device.
Additionally I read about a different partition layout on those.
Imho that would explain the "set partition" notice you mentioned.
Did carrier info in bootloader say TMK before you flashed as well?

When i was handed the phone after giving the guy $20, i turned it on and the only thing it showed was that the software update didnt complete and to fix it to connect the device to the verizon assistant. So then for kicks i tried booting into recovery but actually booted into download mode and was able to see CARRIER_ID: TMK
I was completely floored about it. But when i couldnt boot into recovery, thats when i knew things wer probly gona be difficult. The verizon assistant app thing just would show that the firmware currently on the phone is not one that can be updated. So then i tried a firmware that was a TMK version and immediately failed. Then for kicks i tried the same firmware but with using the HOME CSC and within 2 seconds PASSED!! phone restarted with sansung a20 splash and immediately stood up pointing my fingers to the sky but then it just bootlooped. Thats where its at now

@itrustno1 I'd use from TMK ROM pure csc instead.
If that doesn't help I'd extract pit file from that CSC file, tell Odin where it is, check repartition box (as it seems it wants you to anyhow) and flash it.
As it's not working right now imho it can't get worse.

The way im seeing it, similar to what u said, is that its still got a pulse, it still wakes up, but nobody behind the wheel. Just needs that right set of steps and files to make it happen. Im gona try ur suggestion and see if im able to execute. Will share the results shortly. Much appreciated. Fingers crossed that i dont mess up and make it worse.

Let me ask if im doing this correctly. After downloading the newest TMK firmware, its gona have 5 files in it. Open odin, connect phone in download mode, then drag n drop only the CSC file into odin and then click start. Is that correct?

[Q] att galaxy s 4 cant get into recovery

Can some please help me fix this issue I tried flashing the stock tar file in Odin but it won't pass.I need some serious help. Can some assist me!
That sounds more like download mode. There are a bunch of quick boot/recovery apps in the play store. Those would be easiest.

0p3nsrc actually answers this.
Two steps: #1. Download an app like Quickboot and then #2. start that app and use it to reboot either recovery or download mode (your choice). It should work.
I have had the same problem of the "unauthorized software" in the past and got around it by doing the manual process to get into recovery.
That is #1. turn off phone
#2. hold Volume up and keep holding it while pressing power button to start the phone
#3. Keep holding power+Volume UP button until you see the recovery indications (small print on top left part of screen).
#4. RElease the power button but DONT let go of the volume up button until you're actually in recovery. . .
you may have to try it a few times in a row to get it going, but it eventually WILL get you into recovery!

No matter which galaxy I had (s i9000, s2 i777, or my current s4), I've always has issues with the button combo for recovery. The safest/easiest had always been the quickboot app.
To the OP: black box ROM is ONLY meant for the international s4 (i9500). Major difference in hardware from the att s4 is the octocore processor. You are most likely getting kernel failure due to the ROM/kernel combo. Not 100% sure, though. Aside from kernel fail, any other parts to the error message? Post a screenshot of your "about device" under system settings > more..
For example, mine:

Explain.... How did you erase your system? Furthermore, are you talking about: your whole phone, the /system directory, or your internal sdcard? I've seen some people on the xda forums using 'system' a little too open-endedly.
If you mean /system, you're only option is flashing a ROM, unless you had a nandroid backup, in which case, depending on your recovery, you'd be able to do an advanced restore of the backup.
The same holds true if the whole phone has been wiped.

Since you can't get into recovery, based on what you've described, this means that you 1) flashed a recovery that was NOT loki'd 2) flashed a boot.img that was NOT loki'd.
This is most definitely something that can be fixed, depending on what Firmware your device is on.
If you know FOR A FACT that you have the MF3 bootloader, then I can walk you through how to use Heimdall to flash the phone back to an "out-of-the-box" state with MF3 firmware on it.
Is the Heiman method good to bring bacc to stock

are you 100% positive that you were on MDL firmware? as in, you DID NOT take the OTA update for MF3? if you are on the wrong bootloader then this will brick your device.
honestly it's safer, you could just take it to BestBuy and tell them it "turned off during an update" or that you just want it reset

awesome, sounds good.
as long as you have a bootloader from any firmware PRIOR to MF3, then you can just flash loki-doki as a precaution, otherwise you'll need to use SafeStrap, and I have not looked into that as I personally have no need to

<< Stock Firmware For Your Verizon Note 7 and Quick Guide>>

Here is the newest available firmware for the Verizon Note 7 to flash with Odin. The flashing process is fairly simple. I will try to keep this updated as long as I own this device.
First make sure your PC is properly set up with the Samsung Drivers and ADB/Fastboot from here. After this is done proceed...
1) Download the latest firmware from the link below and then unzip the file.
2) Load the files located in the unzipped firmware folder that starts with BL using the BL button, AP using the AP button, CP using the CP button and finally the CSC using the CSC button in Odin and wait for them to verify. (See Screenshot Below)
3) After the files verify shut down your phone and restart it in download mode by pressing and holding down the volume down, home and power buttons until the phone boots to download mode. Then press the volume up and connect the phone to your PC.
4) Once you are connected and the firmware is loaded press the start button and wait for the process to finish. The phone will restart and then you should be running the latest firmware.
You can load either the HOME_CSC or the CSC_VZW file in the CSC slot. Home will not wipe data and CSC_VZW will.

Pardon my poor directions but here it is how I pull the firmware from SmartSwitch in a nutshell....
1: Open control panel and click on File Explorer Options and co to the View tab. Under Hidden Files and Folders change the option to Show hidden files, folders and drives then apply and close window.
2: Download SmartSwitch, install it and run the program.
3: Click on update to start the download.
4: Open your C: Drive and navigate to C:\Users\Rick\AppData\Local\Temp (replace Rick with your user name) and look for a file created today named tmp*.tmp. When your download in Smartswitch reaches about 70% or so a tmp*.tmp.zip will be created that's about 2 gb in size. That is the ota file you want to copy to your desktop. Copy it over and when it's done unplug yopur phone so it doesn't update. Then rename it to *.tmp to *.zip, unzip it and restart your computer to close SmartSwitch. Now you should have a folder with the latest OTA to flash with Odin. You need yo quickly copy the temp file before the phone reaches 100% and reboots into download mode. Don't worry if you miss it, just unplug your phone before it starts updating and start over. If you aren't quick enough and the phone starts updating in download mode you will have to wait until it's done ore you might soft brick your phone.

What exactly is this particular rom? Is is stock samung rom minus bloat? or verizon ota? And if it is ota, why not just let phone update itself?

No, It's basically the OTA but the full version instead of a patched one. It has all the bloat. I disable the OTA and I prefer to update the phone with Odin to get a clean install. Plus you can chose to wipe all data or not by flashing either the home_csc or the csc_vzw files. The home one won't wipe and the other will. I don't like taking updates when they first come out just in case it kills the battery performance or something else and then not being able to flash back to the previous version if Verizon chooses to make it non revertible.

This is essentially a factory reset guys. No new features just gets you back to stock. Extremely helpful if we ever get any form of unlock or root and this would basically undo all that.
Thanks for this and glad to see you again on here. I made the jump from the S7E to the Note. Quick question and I pretty much know the answer but am having a brain fart: if we have TMO firmware can we flash on the VZW model? I should know better, yes.

Good to see you here too. As much as I said I wasn't going to get the Note 7 I ended up with the spare cash to upgrade and did it. As for the firmware we can only flash the Verizon ones unless Samsung has another universal one like they do on the Edge.

That's what I thought as I was 99% sure. I am just annoyed VZW disabled some features like the Samsung Cloud which I was looking forward to and instead is promoting their VZW cloud app which is less robust. NP. I am really liking the Note and is slightly better than Edge though both are the best.

Flashing the G930U Firmware to the T-Mobile S7 AND Keep Wi-Fi Calling/VoLTE

This guide is meant to assist people in converting their S7 G930T to a G930U with Wi-Fi Calling/VoLTE. All files are hosted on Google Drive and there will be a stock firmware folder in case you would like to flash back for any reason. Let's begin.
Prerequisites:
You must have the firmware version that ends in APK1, if unsure, check the build number
If you do not have it, please update your phone
Download the firmware files, drivers, and ODIN from the Google Drive link
Have a Windows based PC
Your Micro-USB cable
Backup your data, it will wipe the phone
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE BECOMES A BRICK OR LOSS OF DATA. If it does brick, I will do my best to help you. Everything is in my Google Drive because Sammobile does not have the needed T-Mobile firmware.
Download:https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1xbKGqj7KwBSXFFRzdtTG1SdVE
Step 1: Driver Installation and VerificationAfter you have downloaded all files, run the S7Drivers.exe. This driver is straight from Samsung and was renamed due to keeping things a bit more simple. After you run through the setup, plug in your phone while it is still turned on, go to Device Manager on your PC, and verify the S7 is showing up under portable devices as "Samsung Galaxy S7" (look at the image below if unsure what it will look like). We need the drivers to make sure the phone will be detected in ODIN when we put it in download mode.
View attachment 3994408
Step 2: Extracting and Running ODIN (Thanks Princecomsy)Create a folder on the desktop named "ODIN". Extract the "Odin3+v3.12+(PrinceComsy).zip" to that location. After you have done so, run the "Odin PrinceComsy" application and make sure you see a screen like the one below. Do not close ODIN.

}
Step 3: Adding all the files to ODINDownload all firmware files and make a folder on the desktop called "S7 Firmware". Make sure the all files there are 4 file in the folder that start with "AP, BL, CP, and CSC". Also, verify that the CP file says "CP_G930TUVUAPK1..." , this is the radio and we need the G930T radio to keep Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE. Now go back to ODIN and click on the button labeled "BL" and it will bring up the file explorer window. Navigate to the "S7 Firmware" folder and select the BL file. Make sure you match all files with the with the button you clicked on, for example, match AP with an AP file. DO this for all EXCEPT the UMS button, we don't need that. Refer to pictures below for an example of the files. Adding the AP file will take a bit especially if you are using a hard drive.
View attachment 3994526
Step 4: Put the S7 in Download ModeTurn off your phone completely. Now hold power + home + volume down until it brings up a screen that says "Warning". Press the volume up to continue and you will see a screen that says "Downloading... Do not turn off target" Now plug your phone into a USB port, USB 2.0 is preferred for compatibility. You will see a blue box come up in the top left corner of ODIN that says "COM(X)" (X represents a number, it doesn't matter what your number is).
Step 5: Flashing the FirmwareNow that all the files in ODIN are prepared and the phone is plugged in, we can begin flashing! Just press start and let ODIN do the work. It takes about 5 minutes to flash and another 5 minutes to boot. It takes a minute to get past the installing applications. It should fully boot and you will land on the normal setup screen.

What is the point of this again? Converting to 930u? When 930t stock has volte and WiFi calling.
What's to gain just curious ?
It's still 6.0.1 not 7.0 nougat correct?

As far as I know the only point is you have a carrier bloatware-free ROM, but that's about it. Of course, we can uninstall or disable just about all of this anyway.

I found it made my S7 faster and much better on battery. I have gone from 10am to 11pm with 2.75Hr of SOT and I have 47% left, and yes it is 6.0.1 with the September patch.
I just got my G930P SIM unlocked today and I am looking to wipe any traces of Sprint from this phone since I'm now actively on T-Mobile.
I'm on an APK1 firmware currently, so can I follow this guide or would I need to take other steps to make this dream come true?
@Theandroidguy99 can you please upload newest G930U PL2 firmware? TIA!

The steps would be the same but just make sure you flash the TMobile stock files to your device. .

You should be able to follow this guide and use all the firmware I did because you have a Snapdragon S7.

Do you have any idea why some people could be losing their SIM unlock when flashing U? I keep seeing random reports popping up of that happening and it's a bit worrisome.
From what I understand, a SIM unlock should be independent of the firmware you're running, assuming it's a legit DSU and not one of those workaround unlocks you buy on eBay.

I assume the SIM unlock problem is arising due to people using the eBay work around. As long as you did it through your carrier you should be okay.

That was my line of thinking as well, but I guess we'll find out! I'm hoping I can flash back to stock G930P PK1 firmware if things go awry, and just ask for an unlock again...who knows if that will work, but let's hope it doesn't come to that.
Thank you for your help and for this guide! I'll give it a go later tonight.
I will not be releasing the PL2 firmware here due to the Nougat arrival that should be happening in the next few weeks. Once it is released and I can host it, I will update this guide.

From wat i know that isn't possible unless the device has been black listed and you've paid to get it wiped or change the imei
It worked beautifully!
Everything flashed without a hitch and I'm now rocking a Sprint-free, smooth as silk S7.

Oh yeah! I'm assuming I don't accept OTAs (do I even receive them?) and just manually update using this same process each time there's a new version of the firmware?

Yes as long as you flash the Home_CSC instead of the normal CSC. This will keep your data.

not sure to be honest, i originally had a tracfone s7 (SM-G930VL, comes factory unlocked per tracfone) that we flashed to the U firmware, just to test i have flashed all the major US firmware for the S7 and it never got locked again. am not sure why tho but i did know a guy with a sprint s7 that his device got locked after flashing a few roms.

Sprint has released Pie for S8 and S8+, flashing worked perfectly on my AT&T S8+

Hey guys I just got done flashing the G955USQU5DSC1 Android Pie Firmware that Sprint released for the S8/S8+ (and Note 8). The steps are below if you want to do it It's your risk and since we just had the first US carrier push the Pie update the others should be close behind but if you want it now this works perfectly. At least it did for me and for a few others I saw on reddit. I was able to do so without wiping my phone either, no data loss at all. Everything is working perfect, AT&T bootscreen, Wi-Fi calling, VOLTE etc.
Step 1: First off download and install the Samsung USB Drivers for Mobile Phones https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows if you don't have them installed already (reboot after installing them) Use "SamFirm" to download the Sprint Firmware (no throttled download speed like most sites etc) I used v0.3.6 https://bit.ly/2Gso6QQ
Step 2: Launch "SamFirm" (I set the Auto/Manual check box to Auto) and input your model number (Settings>About Phone) or SM-G950U for S8 and SM-G955U for S8+
Step 3: In the "Region" field of "SamFirm" application put in "SPR" for Sprint, and click "Check Update". When you're ready to download it should look like this (G-950U for S8 instead of S8+) When you click download it will ask where to save the Firmware, I just saved to my Downloads folder.

}
Step 4: Once the Firmware download and decryption process is complete you can close "SamFirm". Go to where you told the app to download the firmware, right click it and click extract. Now it's time to use ODIN. At this point if you just want to be extra safe I would use Samsung SmartSwitch app on your phone to create a backup of your phone either to your MicroSD card (easiest) or to your PC. This will backup App /w app data, home screen layout, settings, documents, music (not needed if on your SD card) etc. But I didn't loose any data or have a reset when I did this.
Step 5: Download and open ODIN, I used ODIN 3 v3.13.1. Do the usual of clicking BL/AP/CP etc. then point ODIN to that file of the Firmware that is inside the folder you extracted (ODIN will take a second to scan each file as you add it, just wait for it to finish). For CSC make sure you select CSC do NOT select HOME CSC. If you select HOME CSC it will wipe your data/reset your phone. Also do not select the USERDATA file. Leave USERDATA blank in ODIN (at least for AT&T and Verizon users who this guide is for).
Step 6: Boot your device into download mode. Power off your S8/S8+, then press power and hold power, volume down, and bixby button at the same time. You should very quickly get a blue screen, release the buttons. The screen will say press volume up to continue, do so. Now plug your S8/S8+ into your PC. ODIN should show a blue square under ID:COM like in the previous photo. If ODIN looks the same as my screen shot while you're in Download mode you're ready to go. Now just hit start and wait for the process to complete fully. When it dose finish your phone will reboot and ODIN will show a green square with the word "PASS".
It may take a bit longer than normal for your phone to boot this first time. Also the first time my S8+ rebooted I wound up in the recovery menu, but simply hit the power button since the first selected item is "reboot phone" and the power button is the select button. If you get some white text at the bottom saying its doing something just wait for it to finish and when you get the reboot option hit the power button. That's it. After that my S8+ booted up just fine (this boot may be a bit longer as well but only this time) and I was at the lock screen. All my apps still installed, settings the same etc etc. Just like getting the update OTA.
Ive got an unlocked ATT S8+ and appear to be running into an issue when I fill in the info and select auto.

You have to choose SPR for CSC code because ATT does not have a pie rom for SM-955u
I flashed it yesterday without any issues over the drl7 beta. Process took 15-20 mins but work like a champ after booting up!
Please read this instructions
Just finished flashing on galaxy s8 SM-G950u unlocked Verizon.it worked like a magic for me .BUT faced some issues like :
* after downloading firmware using samfrim error was crc not match please redownload file.
-Solution: download firmware without crc check option.
*after download and decryption. Trying to extract the downloaded file error msg ( file is corrupted)
-Solution :download 7zip software to your pc and right click on downloaded firmware file then choose check crc when finish right click again and choose 7zip > extract now you will see more then 4 files.
When finishing even if there is error just ignore and follow (Sean8102) guide
After flashing and your device restart you will see error message ..don't panic just do wipe cash and reboot u
Your device..now you can enjoy with android pie and give middle finger to verizon late updates

Theres no benefit, it's the 9.0 pie rom update. If u tried the beta versions, it's the same except some
bug fixes. The branded ROMs are all the same, they Just add their own bloatware and other BS but other than that snapdragon rom is the same but are different than exynos rom versions.
Perfect guide.
Thank you very much! I use your guide and was able to flash without wiping any of my data!
omg THANK YOU!
So im doing something wrong, or the files just wont work for my version.
I've placed my device into Downloading Mode with two methods, using adb and the volume down, Bixby, and power button. But for some reason it appears to fail while connecting. Thoughts?

Question about future Ota updates
I followed your guide successfully, will I continue to receive Ota updates as usual as they are released in the future?
Working good on Verizon ?

Yes, but if you're like me you'll end up installing it before the OTA goes out ever again

Standard Update Caused a Reboot Loop. Will ADB / ODIN Work without it Unlocked?

I have Galaxy s8 on Verizon SM-G950U, a standard update notice kept appearing past few days, finally installed it. The minute it finished, it is now in an endless restarting loop. Does not stay on. Tried cache wipe and safe mode, no luck. I am trying to salvage some picture and files in it. I'm 3 days into researching this stuff and watching endless videos, I still dont know what or how to do this.
1) Would ADB allow backup of files if the phone wont stay on? It does stay on when in Android Recovery mode (Volume down and Power button press), but would recovery mode allow access to internal files such as backing up pictures?
2) I was considering trying to flash my phone. But would that even work without it being on the normal homescreen? If so, would I just download whatever the latest ODIN is, 3.13.1? And then whatever the latest Firmware software is for my phone (see below)?

Yes the firmware below is the latest. You put your device in download mode and flash using the latest Odin as for your data. Do not use the home csc. Will wipe. Other than most of the time your data should be safe. Not always but most of the time. Uncheck nand erase
