Android Emulator Performance is Extremely Unstable - IDEs, Libraries, & Programming Tools

First of all, hopefully this is the right place to post this type of question - if it isn't, do let me know.
I have a relatively new PC with 16 GB RAM, 10th Gen Core i3, 4 physical and 4 virtual cores (hyperthreading), I do not have an SSD. It runs Linux Mint and uses the KVM.
The first year or so after buying my computer, the emulator worked great - it was fast and I was having a great time working on my apps.
A couple of weeks ago, I realized that the emulator would occassionally become slower (around 50-60 percent, to be exact) for around a minute or two, before then becoming very fast for around 1-3 minutes.
It's very strange, it goes like so:
- Boot up emulator
- Starts off blazingly fast
- 2 minutes later it suddenly drops by around 50-60 percent in speed for around 1-2 minutes
- Becomes blazingly fast again for some time
(I sometimes use AOSP emulators, but in this case I will just give an example of the Google API emulator.)
This is incredibly frustrating - I use the emulator so many times, and I have a relatively new PC.

Things I've tried:
- allocate more RAM to the emu (5 GB and 8 GB) it actually felt slower and more incosistent with more ram
- turn off other programs
- different tweaks (none of which worked)
I am looking for help as to how I can improve the emulator speed, as it feels as though you need some sort of NASA computer or 32 GB RAM Core i9 12th generation with an RTX 3090 these days to actually get **consistent** QEMU performance - very frustrating!
Any help would be appreciated -- the only fault I can think of with my PC is that I'm using a HDD, which may or may not be the root cause of this issue.

Making the Shift compatible to Win XP

As the title notes, it will be a good ideea to focus our efforts in making this possible. Any ideeas are welcomed and in this stage I would like that users (who already tried installing XP on the Shift) write their experieces here.
Making some sort of driver for the touchscreen imput should be our first priority. If someone can find more specific informations about the touchscreen's controller and some chipset codes it would be a good place to start.
I'm waiting for my Shift to arrive (something like a week or so) in order to get the work started.
hey dude greetings,
I have installed a dual boot XP SP2 with OEM shift Vista successfully; however there are some anomalies; the obvious lack off graphics drivers, sound etc are there. I have managed to get drivers for most of the components; however the SDIO wireless card is not even detected BT is detected if you activate it first from Vista Shag then reboot back to XP. The weird thing is that no HID components are actually detected i.e. pen device etc. The monitor tab under device manager is interesting; it displays 3x 1024*768 digital lcd panel. I will try and a device dump of hardware ids and attach it to this thread; maybe that will give us a clue to controller chip sets.

those damn suckers at htc romania told me that my shift will be comming from sweeden and it will take another 2 weeks untill i get my own one. Untill then I have nothing to play with and experiment.
In order to get the support for wlan and touchpad I think the first test would be to see if we can port the drivers from vista to the xp part of the device. Furthermore, there are some HTC made management programs that need to be implemented in xp if we're going to ask for more.
Thanks for the hardware ID's, I'm waiting for my unit to come and untill then I'll try to collect as much info as possible.

I have used the vista drivers for G sensor on the hard drive, the graphics and sound drivers dont appear to work with XP, however this may be the inf file as apposed to the bins. The proble is I have the drivers for the SDIO wifi but XP dosent see the hardware, I have forced the drivers on in a hope to see if the OS responds but it doesnt work. The touch pad works, the pen or touch screen does not work and again like the wifi driver it does not appear to be detected by the OS. I have been unable to force the vista HID pen driver to XP as in add hardware there is no option for this (HID device) I guess the OS needs to detect it. Looking through the scan of the pci bus it appears HTC have not yet added there vendor id to the PCI Vendor and Device Lists which is a bit weird Over the weekend if I get a chance I might try to have a look at the vista drivers (dlls) to see what is in them. Also the Shag control service does not appear to like installing or running on XP which could be a bit of a bummer. Although I think Comonex has rei the Shag bins so i am pretty confident Comonex might be able to help us getting that working on XP. I just trying to figure out how to get the OS to at least detect the missing hardware.
thanks faisal.husain for working in this direction.
The key with touchscreen recognised is to have Shag program made compatible with xp. Unlike tablet pc's this device seems to operate bluetooth, wlan and HID devices in a more "pocket pc" manner. They are simply powered off when not in use, ore not connected. This is a hardware based situation and the role of the Shag thing is to power them in order to have the operating system see them. So from what I hear from you I thinks trying to have the Shag compatible with XP is another place to start. The inf files would be easily made compatible with xp then...

Wow. Time to move to XP is near....
I got everything working except the Touchscreen IIRC (and the shagctrl).
Stupidly I didn't save the driver links, but I think the TouchScreen is the big one we need to worry about.
I installed alongside Vista, and so for one of the devices that I couldn't find I just pointed it at c:\windows\inf for the driver, that was one of the 'HTC' system devices.
I even got the external ethernet working too.
If someone can get the touchscreen working, i'll dig out the other links.

Yeah I got to the same position too, but failed on the Touch part.

just to confirm, are you saying that you got the Wifi, SD, and BT devices working under XP?
and the ONLY device that isn't currently working under XP is the touchscreen?

I got mine already a month ago from HTC Romania.
I cannot say I am superhappy with the Shift, but their service is OK. They helped me quickly and professionally with a problem I had with the touchscreen.
Was my mistake anyway by putting it on too fast.
Huib
P.s. I even may consider selling it and take this P1620 Fujitsu.
As a future buyer of Shift.. what didn't you like about the device? Putting the not so good battery life aside.
It seems by the time i get my own shift, people here will have already sort out most of the problems and I will be left without job

Too much hassle with the small screen. I use fingers for browsing one time, then I need the stylus another time.
I have a continuous battle when browsing the internet or reading pda files etc.
I use a lot of Google tools, like Calendar and docs.
I must say the software helps a lot, but still. The F11 key does not exist, so I have to find a solution to switch full screen.
Now, pls believe me on my word: I have no commercial or emotional motives to say this: But I think I go for the somewhat bigger/faster Fujitsu P1620. I know the screen does not work well with fingers but that is the only disadvantage. I need those two inches real estate more.
But I repeat: It can be my age. I wanted the shift mainly for my boring, long, economy class flights. A normal portable can not be folded out, because the chair in front of you can be put down.
And I was hoping for a working XP. I have a lot of software that I do not want to buy once more, like the old Office 2003.
This disk, with Vista, keeps spinning and spinnging, even with indexing switched off. VLC player has a battle to play normally. It works now, but..
But maybe I will change my mind.
When I have
1. An extra battery
2. a 32 gigabyte SD card.
3 And..... thanks to you guys, a really working Winmo with Wifi, synchronising outlook, SD card OK etc etc.
Huib
Do you have problems running Office 2003 under Vista? Normally it runs fine.

Have you got it straight from Microsoft? If not its probably fake.
The fact that Microsoft hasn't released anything, no one here would know as there is nothing official to compare to.

[Q] Nook Touch vs Color: technical hardware driver differences

Just waiting for my Nook Touch to arrive...
is there any internal pictures of the Touch?
I'm interested in the differences between the Nook Color and the touch. I believe they are very similar, but not identical, which is why CyanogenMod runs on the color but not on the touch. What are the differences, what drivers need to be added to have customs ROMs on the Touch?
When my Touch arrives I'll start poking around the filesystem and update this thread. Hopefully the kernel modules are kepts as modules rather than built into the kernel.
Edit :
Touch - http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/it...replaceable-same-processor-as-nook-color/2639
Color - http://www.zdnet.com/photos/nookcolor-teardown/487636
- and chipsets in the Color for kernel module drivers to compare with http://nookdevs.com/What_we_know
So to compare:
(Touch in Italics
Color in Bold)
3.7V 1530mAh, 5.66Wh Li-Ion battery (Model No: MLP305787)
6″ Pearl e-ink screen with Neonode zForce touchscreen
^ well, the Color has a real touch screen whereas the Touch uses a IR grid
800MHz Texas Instruments OMAP3621 applications processor
^ color has Samsung S3C6410 ARM processor (no major change)
Texas Instruments TPS65921B Integrated Power Management IC with USB HS Transceiver
Texas Instruments TPS65181 Power Management IC for E Ink Vizplex Enabled Electronic Paper Display
Texas Instruments MSP430F2272 16-bit Ultra-Low-Power Microcontroller
Texas Instruments CD74HC4067 High Speed CMOS 16-Channel Analog Multiplexer/Demultiplexer
Texas Instruments 2624I
SanDisk SDIN5D2-2G NAND Flash chip
Samsung K4X2G323PC-8G08 512 mobile DDR SDRAM
Lattice Semiconductor ispMACH 4032ZE CPLD
Jorjin Technologies WG7310-2A 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi SiP module
^ Color has CyberTAN Technology (802.11 b/g) (libertas sdio sd8686), CM7 uses tiwlan_drv.ko More info: http://www.jorjin.com/WG7310-20.html
Now to determine what these parts are using for kernel modules...
Any other links for reference:
A slow mention at Cyanomod7 forums: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/30624-nook-simple-touch-mod/
Cyanomod7 for Nook Color, to study that image for alteration: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/nook-color
Other notes:
Important - the Nook Color is known as the Encore on the CM7 github dev site:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_bn_encore
edit: Definately no bluetooth -
Sorry definitely no Bluetooth. At first we thought it did but we were getting confused with a very similar chip (part number ending 0A rather than 2A). The block diagram for the chip in the Nook clearly has Bluetooth crossed out:
http://www.jorjin.com/WG7310-20.html
What made it confusing was that it still has `BT` in the specs, but this is referring to WiFi BT coexistance mode.
So the only way to add Bluetooth would be to get a 0A chip and replace it with the 2A chip on the board. But this scale of soldering is too fiddly to be worth it and practically impossible at this scale.
Hope this clears things up.

good summary. Anyone know the best way to get GPS with nook touch? I can't select 'allow mock locations' in settings to try tethering.
Any progress on cyanogenmod 7 for our device? The CM7 site thread points here and this thread points there.. but nothing else out there re CM7 for NT.
And what about partition table of internal flash? Does it look the same?
I wonder what happens if we just try loading CM7 onto the Touch that was designed for the Color.
Probably the screen input will fail. I've noticed that there's no /dev/input/mice
maybe there's something custom in /dev/socket

I'd love to have a go at CM7... but it's dicey. What would help a lot is being able to run live straight off the SD card so that any testing is done there without changing the nook itself.
re: partition table: I'll have to have a look. I'll see if I can push something like fdisk to it. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241728
re: Mock locations. I don't have that option either. I'm only on version 1.0.0. Perhaps we need to upgrade?
Hi all
I suppose many of us are dreaming of having CM (I hope . So as Nook Color and Nook Touch are almost the same from technical point of view I tried to install CM on my Nook Touch. I was sure that at least touch screen wouldn't work so it was just an experiment.
1. Installed Rommanager - success
2. Flashed CWM (4 Nook Color) - success
3. Reboot into recovery - failed (hang)
Any ideas?
P.S. Moderators, I suggest to move this topic to android development, not general.
Which hardware specs is right?

I'd like to buy an ereader, like Nook Simple Touch, Kindle Touch, or Sony PRS-T1. And I want to know the hardware before I buy it.
However, I am very confused about Nook Touch specs.
It says 800 MHz CPU + 512 MB memory here.
From B&N website, it is 600 MHz + 256 MB memory link www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Compare-NOOKs/379003181
Another post (mikecanex.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/nook-touch-rooting-june-13th-news) says it has a TI OMAP3621 CPU but the clock is 600 MHz (BTW: does BogoMIPS : 597.64 in the post mean 600 MHz?) and 228 MB usable memory.
According to wiki (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Instruments_OMAP#OMAP_3) OMPA3611 clocked at 800 MHz is used in Nook Simple Touch.
Which one is accurate? If it is 512 MB, I will go for Nook Touch as it will be much better to load Android apps.
PS: Microcenter says Sony PRS-T1 has 256 MB memory. (www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0375288)

The NST has 2GB of flash memory used for internal storage + 512MB of DDR SDRAM
Edit: Just looked inside mine, it has a Hynix 256MB chip, so the 512MB claim over at techrepublic doesn't hold water.
---------- Post added at 11:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:50 AM ----------
Did a check on my NST just to see how much of that chip is usable:
Code:
<6>[ 0.000000] Memory: 256MB = 256MB total
<5>[ 0.000000] Memory: 232448KB available (3328K code, 798K data, 144K init)
That might not be what you wanted to hear

It's clocked at 800mhz even if cpuinfo reports diferently

Then the official B&N website give us correct memory (256 MB) but incorrect CPU frequency ( 600 MHz instead of real 800 MHz).
It is not as sweet as I thought. But at that price, we can't expect more, right? I may start looking at Sony PSR-T1, then.

Windows 8/7 Aero isues.

I have an Alienware m17 r1 with the Core 2 Extreme Q3000 processor and the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3870X2 graphics card.
Let me start off by saying that Windows Vista works great with no issues at all.
Windows 8: Has a probelm that when I resume from sleep (open the laptop lid) everything just goes bizerk. I can't log in because the screen keeps on flickering on and off and what not. So I have to manually power down and reboot to get things working straight. After a reboot or fresh boot, everything works perfectly including games and stuff. It is important to not that there are no graphics card drivers for my graphics card for Windows 8, but as you will see with how Windows 7 acts, I don't think thats the issue.
Windows 7: I thought Windows 8 was what was causing the issues, so I downloaded a copy of Windows 7 Enterprise trial. Everything worked fine, I installed all the Windows 7 drivers for my laptop including the most up to date graphics card drivers. I closed the lid, opened it again, and bam, Aero stops working. And I can't fix it. And I also can't use the IE or some other applications. So I reinstalled Windows a few more times once without any graphics drivers except for the Windows one and once with the Alienware provided Windows 7 drivers and still the issue occurs. It also occurs after a fresh boot withouth logging in, closing the lid, and opening it and logging in.
I'm not exactly sure what it going on, although I'm sort of ruling out graphics drivers because in Windows Vista everything works perfectly. I was thinking about disconnecting the CrossFire cable to see if one of my graphics cards is the one having any issues, but I wanted your input first to see what the problem might be.
Other m17 owners seem to have Windows 7 running smoothly, but in my case its just not working.
I should also note that the first time I installed Windows 8, I used up the whole harddrive and eveything was working fine. And then a week later that issue started to happen. I then installed Windows Vista and everything was back to working order. I then decided to dualboot Windows 7 and Aero would just turn off after resuming from sleep. I haven't tried Installing Windows 7 on the whole harddrive yet because I don't think that would fix anything. Currently I'm back to Windows Vista on the whole harddrive. I also have a different BIOS that allows overclocking installed, but the system is not overclocked but rather undervolted from 1.2 to 1.186 if I remember correctly.
Here are the complete specs of the system from My Alienware PC Information:

That didn't fix it. I reinstalled Windows and tried it.
Actually that command didn't help. I used powercfg -h off . I tries both on and off and Aero still disables. This is in Windows 7 by the way.

Do a clean uninstall of your video drivers with something like driver sweeper then reinstall the latest ATI drivers.
If you've tried drivers id strongly suggest you start the way all "odd" tech issues are diagnosed.
Rip out anything none essential, including cross fire, bare bones and start from scratch.
If that works then start adding stuff back in.
if it didn't work then your issue is in whats left, most likely graphics or Moby related, but get back to us after doing the above and we'll go from there.

I had already tried all that driver stuff before.
Since it's a laptop, I decided to remove the CrossFire cable to no avail and then I started realizing that CrossFire wasn't actually working to begin with. I had noticed it before, but I didn't investigate further. I tried to reseat the CrossFire cable multiple times to no avail. The one time it did work, I restarted the computer and the second card disappeared.
So I hit some other forums for more info and one said that if I was having CrossFire issues, I should flash a different BIOS. So I flashed the stock Alienware BIOS and bam! Aero got fixed. So that got rid of that problem. Although I'm still stuck with no CrossFire. Removing the cable and putting it back in 10 or so times will get the second card to show up and then disappear again after a restart. According to my understanding, two cards have to show up in device manager when CrossFire is "working". So thats the only problem I have now, otherwise I've been using Windows 7 Enterprise for 2 days now playing Saints Row: The Third for a solid 5 hours with no crashes or anything. Although I'm still missing out on the performance of the second card.
Any ideas to troubleshooting this?

Possibly the drivers?
I have three different machines with sort of similar problems. The Aero basically ****s up. It seems to be an issue with the latest ATI Drivers. I am using the version 11 I believe not the latest. That seems to be helping.

In Windows Vista the latest drivers worked fine. I haven't tried the latest ones on this computer yet, but my desktop does have the latest and it works just fine.

G4H Kids smartwatch ?

hi
I got my hands on this smartwatch
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XTCGD7B
It seems to be a "G4H" kids smartwatch, which seems to be available from multiple vendors.
It seems to be running Android...
It has a pogopin based charging adapter, where the middle 3 pins are not usually connected but seem to be "USB pins"
I opened this up and I was able to find a ribbon cable G4E-USB-FPC-V0.1. / F6-2C connecting those pins to the PCB.
I bet someone make a USB data cable which also has connections to those middle pins.
[ Perhaps this one https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/high-quality-custom-male-gold-plating_62427401556.html ]
Has anyone tried to hack this one yet ? Anyone knows what those middle 3 pins are ?
Any hints on putting this device into recovery mode or fastboot mode ?

Hi, can you pull the system os using adb?
That can help you to get the drivers, if you want to port another watch os.
hi
I cannot get ADB to work yet
G
Hello, Have you connected with adb? I opened the system engineer mode with dial *#*#83781#*#* But under Debug&Log tab, there is no enable debug mode. I think, If I can open debug mode, I can connect with adb.
Thanks you all for those useful info. I have a watch like this. One of the things I am interested is to turn the watch's LTE to a wifi hotspot for other devices, and I found a way to do so, though not very convenience. I am posting the instruction here. Hopefully it is useful to others, and maybe there is a better way to do so:
From Phone, dial *#*#83781#*#* to enter Engineer Mode
Under Connectivity tab, “Start Services”, the go to “Sfatap Wifi Channel”, toggle Auto (off->on->off), then “OK” when seeing “Auto Close Warning”. Optionally choose a 2.4GHz Wifi Channel
Back to the top/root screen, slide from the screen top, and choose the little blue icon at the upper-left most corner to setup Wifi hotspot’s name, security mode (open, WPA PSK, WPA2 PSK) and password.
Note that enabling hotspot will disable the watch's wifi to internet. Any change such as, reboot, turning off hotspot in 3), or enabling wifi will shutdown the hotspot. To enable again, repeat step 1-2 (settings in 3 is saved)
I have same watch. After changing one parameter in Engineer mode, shartwatch doesn't recognize the SIM card and restarts automatically 1 min after boot.
Can you please support how to fix this issue? is there any possibility to do a factory reset using the button on Watch?
Or restore Engineer Mode to default?
THX a lot in advance

Try this tutorial to enable adb/root: https://github.com/eisaev/SuperSUInstaller
Hi! I got a G4H(KGG KG70) watch as well for my kid, problem is that touch does work, every second time I turn on/off the screen. It worked perfectly before, but now it only works every second time I turn on/off the screen. I think that might be a software issue.
I've just started to research so haven't got far, any things I might could try?
The watch works perfectly other then that, but sometimes have trouble get the location.
Hello there. I bought this watch for my child, but when I want to use another tracking program other than the se tracker program, I cannot change the ip number. Can you help me with this?
aşağıdaki kod çalışmıyor.
Find my kids application server: pw,123456,ip,tcp.findmykids.org,8001#

Protocols for "SeTracker" and "Где мои дети" are different. It is not the matter of changing IP, findmykids.org won't understand data sent by SeTracker service from watch.
Also "Где мои дети" is compiled only for Android 5.0+ while this watch runs Android 4.4. So event with watch rooted (described in this thread) you cannot install proper service on watch that will report location to findmykids.org. Maybe they had some Android 4.4 compatible version in the past, but it is highly unlikely this will still work today.

Since I couldn't find any more resources about g4h, I asked for help under this topic. The link to the watch I actually bought is below. If I can change the server of the watch with the sms sent to the watch, maybe I can switch to an application other than tracker. Engineering mode opens but I don't know how to do it.

I hope someone here can help me out. I recently purchased this watch for my daughter and have purchased a Lucky Mobile SIM card to use with it. I’ve not been able to get the watch to connect to the mobile network. The person that is trying to help me from their end has been less than helpful lol. He’s now insisting that I’m putting the SIM card in wrong and I have had to send a video to prove to him that isn’t the case.
I went into the network portions and noticed they had only set up an APN for Bell, so now I have set up the APN for lucky mobile. Yet still no luck (groan)
Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to get this thing to work. Or tell me what provider you went with (in Canada) to get this thing to work?
I really appreciate any help I can get at this point.
I sent pw,123456,DEVELOP,1# to my device and I can connect to it via adb. Once 'adb -d shell', I am in the system but don't know what to do. On the watch's system, process 'adbd' runs under user 'shell'.
A bit more info of the watch (I am not an Android expert)
# ./adb -d shell

PS: India based dev's, (we cannot really stop made-in-china, but we can at-least reflash all the made-in-china with AOSP)

LEMFO is one of the manufacturers/brand names
Its using SC9820E from http://www.unisoc.com/sc9820e
https://sc9820e-datasheet.com/
The Wireless MAC on the device starts with
"40-45-DA" which is for...
Spreadtrum Communications (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
Building 1, Spreadtrum Center, No.2288, Zuchongzhi Rd
Shanghai 201203
The build number seems to be G4H_EMMC_OVERSEA_240_5M_akq_IPS_w_2020.07.09_09.55.00, on the watch depicted in the pictures.
I also have another similar device whish has build number as G4H_EMMC_240_5M_YDE_A36H_OVERSEA_LINE_20200506_10.35.00
Looks like the Nokia 3310-4G is also powered by the same chipset
https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/03/26/nokia-3310-4g-packs-spreadtrum-sc9820-chipset/
The phone seems to be using "YunOS" which is some version of AOSP, also called AliOS (Alibaba version)
Does anyone have the Nokia 3310-4G model #TA-1077

You can putting that device to recovery mode or fastboot mode like this with a application name power toggles *required root
i have the samw watches, i have installed shotcut creator, but when i'm starting "settings" app it launching an ROM settings and i could not enable ADB to root and then flash my watches, i have tried to use engineer mode but it isn't doing anything really useful
wait, i know a way, i think i can enable ADB via "Hidden MIUI settings" and it's not for MIUI only, i tesetd it works on custom roms
