Irritating sound, P Smart 2018 (I think) - Huawei P Smart Questions & Answers

My elderly but little used phone emits a sound every couple of minutes during charging: a quick 'bibibeep'. I've no idea what purpose it has, and I can't find how to disable it. Can anyone tell me how? BB

My apologies, it was just a silly mistake. another (non smart) phone was hiding under some papers nearby and beeping for a recharge. Next time better, I hope. BB

pocket pc birth control app

hey,
i downloaded this freeware app from a site; it's called "ok birth control" and claims to be able to calculate / determine when a woman is fertile (dates when pregnancy is high). i downloaded it since my wife and i are trying to have little robsons and little karens running around the house. when i turned on the app; it was looking for a program plug-in; which i also found on the same site when i went back looking for it. finally; installing the b.c. app is 75kb; but the plug-in was around 1-plus meg. it worked fine; it was rather accurate and my wife was impressed. however; i found out that the plug-in screwed up the alarm notifications; my alarm wouldn't sound and would activate only after going to the clock settings. weird. but the worse part is that it screwed up my bluetooth connection with my headset; bonding /rebonding would indicate that the headset was recognized but making/receiving calls wouldn't be transferred.
so, should you run into this program "ok birth control"; please don't use it and spare yourselves the trouble of doing a hard reset. removing the program/app didn't help; a hard reset was called for.
cheers

so tell us did it work? I mean did your wife fall pregnant?
Maybe it was so smart it screwed up your PDA so you would have even more time to spend with Karen.
Screwing the pda will not result in a pregnancy. Screwing often does though.

however the reason why we have to closely monitor her ovulation period is because we've been having difficulty for 3 years now. we've had ourselves checked quite a number of times and everything is normal. a couple of weeks ago she underwent an operation which we hope will increase our chances. keeping our fingers crossed...

yes, the software is relatively easy to use and quite straightforward. you just have to input 3 or 4 things for it to calculate the dates when the fertility period is.
unfortunately, as i've said it screws around with the alarm and thus makes it not sound. it also advances your calendar alarm / reminder times by around 3 hours. and lastly it screws up the bluetooth such that the device can recognize the headset but refuses to transfer the call. even after so many bonding and rebonding configurations.

My Xda2 is a transvestite I think. Can it still have babies????
Will your program tell me when it Ovulates???
Robson, I wish you all the best, sometimes life cannot be planned as we want it, relax, enjoy your life and maybe in time it will happen.
Wrong time of the month. No mating allowed with my Xda for a few days. Ho Hum.
Which plug-in does it ask? I havent noticed such problems on PPC 2002 platform?

Girls best friend
You might wanna forget the whole thing (the software, that is), and perhaps look at "Girls best friend" instead?

Did not cause any problems with my Himalaya..
And I wish you the best of luck!
I want some toddlers too, but I'm a bit too young..
Just a few more years..
Don't worry, when you have the sproglets, you won't need your alarms anymore (well, not for waking up, that's for sure).
Good luck,
Alex.

TV Interference... Weird...

I'm having some situation here... This Hermes is causing TV Interference... not only on my TV, but also with my TV input card on my PC. It just happens at data transfer.
Weird? Any suggestions?
I had radio 1.48 and now 1.51... and always the same issue...
HELP!
All mobile phone causes interference on the TV signal, and most analog signals. There is nothing you can do about it.
But this are not some little lines on the TV... i'm talking about a high pitched noise on the TV or computer... the whole screen flickers...
I've had mobiles for the last 15 years and this is the first time I've seen something like this. And like I said, it's just when sending or receiving data.
I think this is weird... I'm gonna check with a Mogul that my g/f has to see if the same thing happens...

It probably wont happen with the Mogul since that's on Sprint's network which is PCS - the Hermes is a GSM phone which is associated with the analog signal interference (It almost sounds like a galloping drum beat right before an incoming call de-dadade-dadade) - you will note though, if the phone is connected to a 3G signal, you will not have this problem! Your best bet is to place the phone with good distance away from speakers and such to avoid. I also find that for some reason, it's slightly less prone to happen with my phone if I put it screen down.
yeah, i'm hoping for a solution to this annoying problem too.
I've had the same thing going on with the last 5 Cingular/AT&T phones I've had. I kinda like it, I know when the phone is ringing before it actually rings.
heh, yeah, i also did find that beneficial. it kinda gave me a feeling of clairvoyancy -but i still hate it and need a fix. i have to turn off my comp speakers at night and my port speakers in my car that i use for my podcasts when im in a call or in a data session.
on a friend's tv, interferences happens when we enable the blutooth and they stops when we disable it.
mine is a m3100 and his is a m3000. both cause this problem on HIS TV but not on mine or other tv we tested. bad luck

[Request] Car Alarm type app for G sensor

This is a bit of a cool gimiky app well it's like 2 apps in one.
Anti theft so if your phone is moved (Picked UP) it makes a car alarm sound and if you put it down it makes the Blip Blip sound to say it's armed.
And the other is a sort of fun mode so if it is moved It will play pre recorded sounds like "Oi put me down!"
I suppose you could call it a warning mode.
Has anyone thought or is thinking about making this?
i geuss it would be very basic to make...
i dont programm, so here is the way i think it could be programmed..
make a programm wich when it runs polls the gsensor, when it detected a change greater than normal when lying on youre desk, or a change of orientation, it would play a wavefile...
that for the alarm part...
the activate could be accomplisched in the following way...
when activated the gesensor is detecting movement because you are handeling it...
when de device is still for a 5 seconds or so.. it plays the blibblib file, and then starts the polling of the sensor above...
to make this complete it would be neccesary to enter a simple pincode to deactive the alarm sound...
i actually tried to get into programming to make this.. but my efforts where came not even close... as long as i cant programm in basic, im lost
anyone with a bit of spare time who could code this?
Good idea
Its an Idea a friend suggested.
It sounds like a really easy app to make but as I don't make apps for mobiles yet I wouldn't know how to build one
I could help with the GUI interface.
the rules would be simple.
when the phone is jogged for about a second play a warning sound.
Then the phone is picked up and jogged violently play the alarm sound looping.
when the phone settles down again play the rearm sound.
The guy who did the lightsaber app could whip this one up
Sounds fun and useful espescially at home where kids tend to touch everything and move things around..
Hope this gets wind
Will it cost much battery?
I guess...
I don't think it will cost much battery, provided you don't keep picking it up!
indeed..
it just polling the gsensor... that shouldnt drain too much...
anyway, when i leave it lying at my desk its most of the time thetered anyway...
graficly it dont has to be very much...
This could be a very funny and useful tool!!!!
Have a barking dog noise when the phone is touched.
Have a woman screaming when the "alarm" is set off...
Have a GPS tracker tool triggered once this program is launched.
Have the camera activate once the alarm goes off
Have the phone shut off with a special lock code when in "scream" mode.
Good
So it's agreed. then.. who can we ask to make this?

Diamond's battery is only 900mAh, if GPS and camera are turned on, it will cost too much battery.
Athough Gsensor and Lightsensor cost little battery, but what I thought is, if the system should be always turned on (when screen is off)?
I don't know much about that, just guess~
Who can answer?
Good idea! Here is the car-locking sound!!

(You sould change the title of your topic to get more intrest, like g-sensor car alarm?)
Dev note
The application could be set to activate when the backlight is inactive.
in a similar way to the S2unlock application in that respect.
Can you poll the G sensor less frequently to save battery life? every 0.5 seconds
I can't see how running this as well as other apps will kill the battery any faster than if you where playing Teeter for a long period.
i`m with stupid
anyways..
nobody who has posted here seems to have programming skills(incuding myself), but the idee is imho a good one..
we just need the app to do the basic alarm thing wich i posted already.. choosing youre own sounds for the different events would be nice tough...
i have no problem to manually activate the alarm(an thus it doesnt need to be "silent" in the taskmanager, otherwise the thing would go off in my pocket when i walk around.. just start teh exe and its active... when enter the correct pin it shuts down again..)
it could be possible to trigger an event, or a external program whenever a alarm is given.. this makes it easier for other developers/user to add functions they need, like a gps logger or wathever.. it doenst need to be hardcoded i mean... just a event trigger to an choosable exe would be suffient...
so...
in the meantime ill keep dreaming sombody does have the time...
but i think it would be a rather popular app when developed, a have seen already many question for software like this...
ill try to clarify in the hopes somebody gets inspirated
- start software
- 10 poll sensor for 5 seconds.
- 20 if valeus differ too much then goto 10 else goto 30
- 30 play sound1 (beebbeeb)
- 40 poll g sensor
- 50 store valeus x-y-z in file/memory Z
- 60 poll sensor, valeus x-y-z.
- 70 if valeus polled differ more compared to memory play sound2 (alarm) else goto 60
- 80 execute external command
- 90 if alarm is ringing execute pin-routine, if correct pin is entered terminate alarm exe
mah, i told you im not a programmer...... but hopefully it will clarify my idea about this software
furtermore.. changing the topictitle into [REQ] CarAlarm-like software would be more suited as topictitle
GUI
I've posted the GUI for the app
Great! Keep up te good work!!
the gui is just a grafical representation on how WE think it should work...
so far no-one has posted who is willing to code..
Is there nobody who wants to try to make a application?
Very good idea..I let my phone always behind on my desk and i am thinking that somebody looks into the phone. This is very usefull to protect my phone..
When is the program ready?
Hi there! I have a little experience with .NET CF programming, and took a look at this thread... Any way, this is my first post on this forum
I think this application is not so hard to program.. The only problem would be that in the Stand-by mode, the G-sensor cannot be polled (correct me if I`m wrong). All the applications are suspended (except for the notifications and usual phone processes).
I think the application would work OK if the alarm is triggered when the phone is picked up from the initial place and woken up from standby mode (e.g. if an unwanted person tries to take a look in your phone ).
This surely saves a lot of battery than preventing the phone to enter standby mode plus polling the G-sensor often).
So what do you guys think?
[Edit] I just found another way to poll the G-sensor every x seconds. The application can be opened even in stand-by mode, check the sensor values, then go back to sleep.
I´m currently working on this gadget but there are/were quite some problems:
1: The diamond has to stay on under all circumstances! If it goes into the suspend mode, the alarm program will also suspend and therefore stop polling gsensor values. This is solved.
2. How to disable or turn off the alarm? I decided to integrate two ways of handling this subject: 1. you can choose to turn it face down and the triggered alarm will stop, respectivly the alarm system will be disabled. 2. You can enter a self-chosen PIN. The problem with this is, that when the alarm system is active and you choose to enter the PIN to disarm it, you have be quick (3sec) otherwise the alarm will go off. If I wouldn´t handle it this way, a thief could snatch the phone and try to enter a PIN while pausing the alarm system doing so.
3. And this is point unfortunately is still not solved: I don´t know how to disable the hardwarebuttons (power, volume, home ...) of the diamond.
4. When finished I want to make a cab file from the project, so that installing is made easier.
So right now the gadget works, but problem No. 3 remains. If you do keep the diamond in a pouch or case it works ok but if you leave it uncovered, someone who tries to steal it, can disarm the alarm system.
Therefor I´m not really satisfied with my work so far and I don´t have much time around this time of the year because I´m married, have a little daughter and still need to do christmas shopping; then come the festivities...
I guess if I can manage to control the hardware buttons I can post the completed project sometime in January.
bye,
Thilo

Hands on/First Impressions?

Has anybody done a hands on video for the standard Phab 2. I am thinking about ordering it, but I would like to see it in action and hear what people think about it. There is not much out there yet about this one as it is being overshadowed by the Tango phone. Thanks for any info guys.
I have had mine for a few days and had lots of trouble so far. Not to say it is a bad phone, just hoping I received a bad one. Waiting on Lenovo to ship a replacement now.
'Timely'(clock/alarm) app doesn't work at all(force closes on opening) but it is most likely an issue with the app itself.
The Phone/Dialer app was buggy as well. It was showing all contacts on the contact page of the app, but search feature on contact page and T9 input on the dialing screen wouldn't bring up any information(just a blank screen) making me have to go into the contact screen and scroll down to whoever I wanted to get in touch with just to make a call. Then, the microphone wouldn't work when using the phone as a handset(hold up to head like a regular phone) but would work fine for Google("Okay Google") searches (or if connected to Bluetooth). A full, hard-reboot seems to have fixed the Phone/Dialer issues but it was annoying for a couple days.
It has a horrible WiFi(WLAN) battery drain issue as well. It has used as much battery as the screen has with the SOT of almost 3.5 hours. I mean, over 50% battery life left with 3.5hrs of SOT is not terrible, but I wonder how much better it could be...
The plastic back/case make noises intermittently(squeaky plastic-on-plastic noise) that is pretty annoying as well.
Hopefully the replacement phone will be better, if not, I'll return it and pay the difference for either the Plus or the Pro.
Gotta love that 14 day return policy...
So I went ahead and made the purchase too. My phone dialer would never pull up and would immediately force close even after reboots. I just downloaded a 3rd party dialer app and that works just fine. Today, the other bug hit me. My wife called and she could not hear me. I tried speaker phone and even hung up and called her back, but the microphone was not recognizing me during the call. This is an irritating bug, but it seems like it is just software. I also have an issue with turning the wifi on. If it is off, my phone will immediately turn it back off each time after I try to turn it on. The only way I can find to make it work is to turn it on directly after a reboot and then just leave it on. The only bug that is a big deal to me is the phone call issue. If that does not reoccur often, I can deal with the other issues since the phone was such a reasonable price.

I just bought Lenovo Phab2. So far so good. No issues. Pretty smooth. You just got unlucky and got the bad one. I am trying root but cannot find any info.
Unfortunately my replacement device seems to have the same issues the original did in regards to the Phone App. No contact loading. I wiped and installed my Google account every different way I could think of(7-8 times...) but no luck. Sorry Lenovo, like I said, I really wanted to like this phone, but I feel there are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out. Good luck to those of you with the fortitude to rock this beast, but I'm out. Sent it back yesterday for a refund and ordered an Axon 7 that I'll be picking up later today.

I know it's a pain, but I would try a hard reboot/wipe. That's the only thing that worked for mine(the original anyway) as far as the mic goes. Hopefully you have better luck than I did.
Check, Check, 1, 2, 1,2 - Mic issue - Otherwise pretty good phone
I have mine since 12/6 (just under a week).
Likes: Big Screen. Quality screen. I'm coming from a 1080P display and it's a 720P, but I have to say, it's bright, colors are good. Very clear. Good for consuming media and as a remote terminal (for Citrix/RDS). 32 GB of internal storage. Reasonably responsive. Not much of a gamer.
Dis-Likes: Microphone disconnecting. Camera. Teflon-like slickness of case. MicroSD Card caddy - cannot read my card.
OK, after long, obsessive deliberation on my next new phone, I ended up with this phone. It was a long and winding road to end up a place I didn't expect to be. I was originally intent on purchasing the Zenfone 3 Ultra. But since the fine folks at Asus, didn't want to a put a radio on this model that would get 4G/LTE speeds (in the U.S.) AND being that I use my phone for hotspot and pay for the data bandwidth, I wanted the ability to realize that bandwidth when hotspotted in on a notebook. So, I decide on the Phab2 Pro, but purchasing through the portal seemed like "unavailable", "ships in 5 weeks", "ships in 3 weeks" etc......So, around Thanksgiving, as I'm checking in on the Pro, I see that the Phab 2 is available for $30 bucks off the pretty low $200. I think to myself "What if I'm only in love w/ the idea of a big phone and not the reality of a big phone?". My phone prior was the Moto X Pure (great value, love the phone) 5.7" display. Pretty big, but not this big. So, I figure, a buck 70? why not? If I don't like it, it can be a tablet/lifeboat for the next keg-tub diving non-waterproof phone incident where I need an emergency phone. Again, it can be a tablet on my sofa console.
So, I purchase it. It comes. The first thing I noticed was the slipperiness of the phone. It's a big phone, that I thought I'd be able to single hand (I'm 6'3" w/ ham hands, not-petite). I cannot. At the fear of breaking a new (though reasonably priced) toy, I heir on the side of cautious and I operate w/ both. So, I figure, I'll just "OK Google" dial and use earpods. I quickly find out (believe) that "OK Google" exacerbates a microphone issue. Not sure if the process being spawned has enough rights, holds on to the application, causes a memory leak, or what. But if you "OK Google" dial, it will (*may*) lead to the mic becoming unresponsive and playing the "I can't hear you game". I will be the first to admit that phones are phones anymore. They are computers that you can also make and receive phone calls from *BUT* the phone functionality is still a pretty necessary element of these handheld computers. So, hopefully Lenovo will get this sorted out in Nougat, or maybe they paid short shrift to bug squashing on Marshmallow knowing they were quickly going to Nougat. But the mic issue definitely not great.
I did some testing and found that I could reliabley place calls 10 times in a row (mic connected) manually, then 10 w/ google while it was unlocked, then 9 out of 10 w/ google dialing while phone was locked.
I followed this up w/ 40 manual dials where the mic was always connected. I was pretty sure the mic issue was related to OK Google (voice command), but then I let it sit overnight (last night), and found that w/o any OK Google, the mic disconnected on the phone. (That's why I'm thinking maybe memory leak, as OK Google might exacerbate the problem, not cause it). Reboot fixes this; but they need to get this squared away or it could create some negative buzz around an otherwise pretty nice little (ok, big) value phone.
Ok hello from India!!!! Got this phone today, screen is bright but in sunlight okkish,,call quality great, touch fabulous, slow dt2w,net wlan speed great, gets attentions, software can b better , lag sometimes or freezes very slightly, while commuting not handy cause size.
First Impressions...
I dropped my Xiaomi Note (5.7in), spider-webs appeared = I **HAD-TO** get a new phone. I decided to try a larger size. Impressed by the 3Gig RAM, the size, the capacity for expandable memory, the FM radio, the price, I bought the Phab2. The shop did not have a cover for this device, they advised me to go online. sigh... (that's how the spider-webs appeared in the first place... no cover!!!
The size takes some getting used to. Fits in my pockets ok. Camera = ok. Colors = ok. Calling and SMS = ok. Music reproduction = ok.
I. am. satisfied.
I have the Phab 2 (NOT the Phab 2 Plus - NOT the Phab 2 Pro) - bought in Prague, CZ.
-I had a problem to make GROUPS in my contact list. Android automatically added my contacts from my laptop Google Contact List. New folks that I added later to the phone could not be put into the newly created Group-List. What gives?
-A somewhat similar problem showed up when I attempted to make a Group-List of widgets / programs. Every morning when I switch on the phone, I have to re-organize the widgets & programs into groups AGAIN.
Is this a systemic problem? Am I doing the processes incorrectly? Can we add this to the list of known bugs?

fossil Gen 5

Am I missing something here or was everything about this launch misleading
I picked up the Gen 5 today. Google assistant does not talk to me. Only shows results on screen. And the battery modes are no where to be found.
I had a software update when I finished loading everything and no difference.
What am I missing??
I got one as well. Assistant talks to me just like it is supposed to. Do you have the speaker enabled under settings (swipe down from main screen)? Same with battery modes... they are right there next to the speaker icon when you swipe down. Icon is of a battery with a plus in the middle. Great watch so far, absolutely love it!

Which one is the speaker. Are you talk about the sound icon. That's for notifications, is it not?
I ended up finding the battery modes
Regardless. The battery life has been horrendous for me.
On my Gen 4 I would end my day from 630am till 8pm and have 60% left.
My Gen 5. I started at 8 ended at 630pm and had 10%
The speaker icon is essentially all sounds or mute AFAIK. Also I second that the battery is terrible. Started the day at 06:00, been in high power save and died at about 13:30! Seriously hope they can address this in the next update

Ya that is on and nothing from assistant. Only shows results on the screen. Does not talk back to me. So something is going on
I just got the new gen 5 watch for few days, I have issue on phone calls using the watch. While call in or pick up the call have too much chopping and distortion. I tried reboot the watch once and it work normal but after that it came back. Any pone have this issue? Or is only my watch is faulty?

Have the same issue. With both of them I had
I think it's a software issue and needs an update. Hopefully fossil is quick to address.
Imo
They did a piss poor job of this launch.
Software has major issues and bugs are running rampant. Speaker call issues. Battery life issues. Assistant not talking back to you. Battery modes hidden and not in settings.
There are some serious issues they need to resolve and fast
offline music app
I want to download music and play it offline since we have the storage - can anyone recommend the best music app for Wear OS for this purpose? TIA

I wanted to look for it too, since spotify is still not able to offline listen music from watch.
Got the Gen 5 too. Pretty poor battery life.
Anybody know other than putting the watch everytime to "DND" or "Silent" how to avoid the charging sound when plugged and unplugged? I don't mind if somebody know the value in System / Global or Secure and write it via ADB.
P.s.: First Fossil, pretty poor watch (unstable). Same here, speaker glitch when talking, Google assistant talks when he wants and awful battery life. My Lemfo China watch was better...
Thank's
In order for the assistant to work properly, I had to set the language to English US. This needed to be done on the phone's setting and the on the google assistant settings through the wear OS app. For some reason setting it to English Australia cripples the assistant. Not an ideal fix, since it switches all apps on my phone and watch to imperial instead of metric. I have contacted support. It may be that you're seeing the same issue with Canada?
In terms of the speaker for calls, there is a known issue with the choppy sound and requiring a reboot to fix. They said they're working on a fix and will be rolling out a software fix soon.
As for the battery life. The different modes trade off functionality for slightly extended battery life. The battery life is not great, but I can stretch it to a full day. It took some time for it to settle down though after all the software updates and syncing of apps. It was terrible on day one and two.
Ciao I will try asking here as well since this is a Fossil Gen 5 specific thread.
The ok google detection is on.
if I keep pressed the centre button the Google assistant is launched on the watch and I can talk to the watch to give commands.
If I say "ok google" to the watch the assistant is launched on the phone and not on the watch, so I have to talk to the phone while I'd like talk to the watch.
Brightness issue??
I'm planing to buy the watch, but there are many reports that brightness of the watch is too low even compared to gen 4 or older Moto 360 or Huawei watch 1. Is it really the case,??
Can that be fixed from software side??
Also they have not specified display glass quality.. I mean gorilla,,sapphire..? ....
Can anyone help in clarifying
Thanks
I like the new Generation sure the battery life in custom mode with everything on maybe a bit worse than Generation 4 but at the end of the day I get easy 30% .... fooling around with it a bit more too because it is new.

Never been that happy but when I wake the watch so far I always have been able to read it.
"Kind of the trade of the brighter the display the worse the battery life"
Glass not sure ? Never has a problem or scratches with the Generation 4
Different story for me, it's my hmmm 9th or 10th smartwatch, the Gen5 for me is a disappointment. The quality is not just there for now. MAYBE if they fix the bugs but other than putting the speaker to off, you can't quiet the watch when finishing charging. Also, the speaker distort a lot and waiting for a firmware update so for now, it's being returned to Fossil. Will wait for the Vivoactive 4s, the upcoming Diesel that might have a newer firmware and maybe the Galaxy Watch 2.
Really I must have got the one working watch.
I pull the watch out the charger at 7am and at 11pm I still have 70%....
Always on display, I turned off nothing including NFC, WiFi, GPS, bluetooth
My way of thinking is if it is not connected it is not working.
I read people can not find the battery modes ?
Swipe from the top down, what do you think the battery icon is for ?
Just for kicks I may one day see just how long I can make the battery last....
The watch is extremely fast and responsive.
For me there is no other choices, Galaxy Watch .... no apps, no Google Pay.
If you are not using a Samsung Device ??
The Fossil Generation 4 I guess is not bad, no speaker...... but most people in this thread are complaining about the speaker anyway. However I do agree above all the speaker can use some work.
for everyone who is facing google assistant issue i also had similar issues that GA doens't use to talk to me but then i came to know that you need to change the language of your mobile follow this
settings -> system -> languages & input -> languages and add English(UK) or English(US) to the list and keep it on first.
and the one which will be on first should be the language set in your watch as well. the reboot your watch and voila you can talk and get response from GA
hope this fixes your issue.
and with the calling issue and speaker issue its a major wear os bug on july 2019 patch. we will have to wait for new patch to be launched.
Have a good one
Wear Media for Wear OS
able to upload music to my Gen 5 but noticed a considerable lag when accessing the app on the watch. It takes a while for all the albums to show up and then it takes 15 seconds sometimes to have the first song of an album to show up, which is necessary to start playing. Anyone have a similar experience?
Guys, is it possible to sideload apps to gen 5?
