Device: Redmi Note 7s with MIUI Global 12.5.1 Stable version. I have never rooted or unlocked device. Developer mode is enabled.
Problem: My phone is not being recognized by any laptop / PC even OTG is not working. After connection to PC, it only charges. I don't even receive any notificaiton on phone. Error received in PC is "USB device malfunctioned". Error in device manager "Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed).
Already Checked:
*Debugging mode is enabled.
*Default USB configuration set to "File Transfer".
*Already tried Uninstalling / reinstalling USB Root hub / device marked as unknown USB device
*Already tried reinstalling USB drivers .
*Device USB connector and Main board already replaced but no change.
*Tried different cables (including MI original data cables).
*Tried different PC / Laptops (Windows 10 / 11).
It seems to be an MIUI settings issues. Please advice on how to resolve this.
Hello, have you tried disabling USB debugging to see if it'll work. And also, try USB tethering of internet, just for trial and error.

Hi, I seem to be having some trouble trying to update to the latest 6.5 ROM. It says I have a "Error 260: USB Connection".
I also get the same error trying to flash to HardSPL, it says I should make sure it is synced, when it is. I also tried installing the "enablerapinew.cab", and another computer/another cable cord. All the same problems.
I think it may be because in my USB to PC menu, the option to "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" is ticked and grayed out. So I can't untick it.
I tried changing the driver in the registry to the USB Serial driver, but that didn't even sync.
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hard reset if nothing else works.
Then you will know whether it is a hardware failure or software related.
I've seen anything from bent pins, lose USB on circuit board, bad cables, Vista vs XP....etc and the list goes on of possible causes for this issue.
Well it still charges and the phone still reads the storage card because i was able to flash it from the card but the computer will not recognize it as a USB device therefore activesync will not work and i cannot access the storage card when its in the phone
Reinstall ActiveSync...maybe...

Hi!
I have exactly the same problem.
Connecting the TD2 with my PC does not do anything.
Its the same issue with my 2nd PC and othe cables.
Charging works but no USB connection.
I think the USB connector on the Phone is broken.
I allready contacted HTC support but no response yet.
I will post again when ive got some news.

Hi ya all,
Try to flash it from your SD card, have a look here: http://www.tomlenferink.nl/component/content/article/1-latest-news/77-windows-mobile-65.html
Don't forget for Windows XP you need Active Sync and for Windows Vista and 7 you need Windows Mobile Device Center.
Hello, i have a very weird problem. My nexus 4 cant connect to pc as mass storage device.. It worked fine like 4 days ago.. I dont know what happened or what else i can try.. Already tried: usb debugging on/off, factory reset, usb settings in storage menu, different usb port, NOTHING HELPED! There are another weird thing that i spoted is that it only charges through usb when i have nothing selected in storage>usb connections menu, as soon as i try to select mtp or camera it stops from charging and nothing happens. Same problem for AC charging it wont charge when theres mtp or camera selected, and only charges as USB... I'm confused.. Are there any ways to get it working again?
I'm having the same problem.. I've just installed Windows 7 64 bit but it sees my Nexus 4 like Unknown Device.. I uninstalling the drivers and re installing them using Nexus Root Toolkit but no result for now..:crying:
Do you have a ROM or anything installed? I know with PA its a problem at the moment at times. A little more info would be nice. I never had a problem with Windows 7. I'm on Windows 8 now and i had an issue at first with it not showing up at times. But it seems to be fine now.
Just go in
Settings,
Dev options (if you not have it go in phone informations and press many times in row the Build Number, this activate Dev options)
and Disable USB Debugging,
then reconnect your phone, and the computer will see it
USB debbuging isnt working. i have no ROMS, stock android 4.3. And yes, now im running WIN 8, previuosly had 7, the problem occured after installing 8 and trying to plug it in. Its not showing in my computer neither in device Manager. I doesnt make any difference with, or without it pluged in, the only difference is that it will start charging, but then again ONLY when i disable everyting in storage>usb connections.
bump
do you have a fast charge app installed? it sounds like it's an issue related to fast charging via USB. if it's enabled you can't access anything on the phone via usb, but i think that requires to at least be rooted.
I'm on last PA 3.99-Rc1 and I just found out that if I go in Setting-Memory the appilcation shutdown .-. Never had this issue before .-.

Nothing, just read that it's a issue with PA while using last Franco Kernel nightly XD I'm going back to windows vista 32bit, so I believe the problem connecting my nexus 4 won't be any more an issue (Going back to Vista because for daily use it worked perfectly and every thing worked fine with the drivers, Windows 7 it's better, but too many issues with drivers bla bla bla XD)
I have always used the Windows Driver from the Google SDK (Google USB Driver- As of today, Revision 8) for my Windows 7 64 bit computer and have never had a problem. More importantly there is an Update Manager that comes with the SDK, that when you run, notifies you of newer Windows drivers as they are released. That way as Google issues newer OS builds or Windows issues a new OS, I know that not only my driver but my platform tools aka fastboot/adb/etc. (As of today, Revision 18.0.1) will always be compatible. The problem with these toolkits and driver downloads all over the place on these forums is that you have know idea how old the internals are. The other obvious thing to check is a bad or intermittently bad USB cable. Also make sure "MTP" is checked in Settings > Storage >Settings > USB computer connection.
Hey, I'm sorry if it's against etiquette digging up an old post, but this part worked for me:

Glad I could help. That setting isn't exactly the easiest thing to find.
Fix usb
Go to device manager in windows 7/8/8.1 . Connect your mobile with usb. You will see android device or adb right click on it, select properties, click uninstall driver. NOTE: When you click this a small popup will appear saying remove software driver, tick on it and click uninstall.. there you go ..it will reinstall drivers and your phone will be finally connected.
im having the same problem . My phone shows as Unknown Device on Device Manager. Tried other cables and usb ports. I can tell that the cables and ports are not the problem since my Nexus 7 can connect without problem. Tried usb debuggin on/off, MTP on/off, PTP. Still no luck. Already tried to reinstall drivers but still the same problem. Hoping this is not a hardware issue. I already tried factory reset and flashing other ROMs
Yesterday i wanted to move some pictures from my N4 to my mac by somehow i could startup the Android File Transfer for mac, i checked the MTP in usb setting and check it and unchecked it several times.

Did you try to change your USB Connection setting from 'Charging' to 'File Transfer'?
Also, if in case you're using a cable other than the provided USB-C data cable, are you sure that it's a data cable and not just a charging cable?

I already tried usb debugging on, with file transfer/charging and debugging off with file transfer/charging. and I'm currently using original usb c. I always get this error saying that my device must be updated first (see attachment) , but I already at latest miui. I even formatted my windows lol, still no luck. But I still can transfer file between my pc and phone using windows explorer.
Since a few days my Redmi Note 7 can't be seen anymore by my computer (Windows 10). In Device Manager there's the yellow alert icon with the message "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
Attempts I've tried:
- Connect the cable into the PC's rear USB ports
- Connect the cable into another PC
- Update the drivers in Device Manager
- Uninstall / reinstall the drivers in Device Manager
- Manually install drivers from SDK Tools, Mi Flash and% windir%\inf (wpdmtp.inf)
- Enable USB debugging in Developer Options and select "Data Transfer" by default
- Dirty reflash MIUI (wiping data)
- Connect the phone in Fastboot and Recovery (OrangeFox)
- Use other cables (the official one and three more)
But the error persists.
Everything points to a hardware problem of the USB-C input (which I also tried to clean, but nada), although the phone charges regularly and it can also indicate a software problem.
Somewhere I read that I could try formatting (and not wiping) the data partition, and I will do it as a last resort.
Do you have any other clue before i bring it to repair?
Thanks!
