Google Fi G7 w/Locked Bootloader - Moto G7 Questions & Answers

I've moved from the US to Canada and trying Telus with the G7. I've found that the phone doesnt seem to connect to Telus (and I've tried Freedom Mobile), but won't show any alerts to the fact that its network locked to Google Fi.
Would my SIM network issues be resolved if I unlocked the bootloader? Can someone confirm with me if its possible to unlock it with the Google Fi model?
Thanks!

How do I know if my HTC is locked (simlocked) or not without another Sim?

Hi,
I've bought a HTC Magic from Rogers. From the internet, it seems that some ppl were saying Rogers did not lock any smartphone, but most said it does.
I've tested with my wife's Fido Pay-As-You-Go SIM card, it seems to work. So either my phone is unlocked or Rogers and that Fido prepaid card are sharing the same lock-code.
Anyhow, without any other tools, how can I tell/test if my phone is simlocked or not?
Thanks,
Gary
The Rogers phones are locked. Fido, PetroCan Mobility and Speak Out are all virtual network operators that run on the Rogers network so their SIM's will work in a locked Rogers phone.
You need a non-Rogers SIM (like from a new Bell or Telus phone) or a US or European SIM. As soon as you pop it in it will tell you your locked and will ask you for the unlock code.
Phone won't run home screen but instead will ask for "unlock code".
And unless you give it you can't use the phone for anything (you can't even check any menu, settings or anything).

Anyone going abroad with a SIM unlocked Droid 2 Global soon?

We haven't been able to determine whether the Droid 2 Global will actually work with other GSM networks since in the USA no GSM networks appear as available after running a network scan.
It's possible that VZW somehow has a carrier lock in the USA in spite of the SIM being unlocked, but that it will still work on foreign GSM networks. If anyone has the opportunity to test this for us that would be awesome.
I have unlocked my droid global and was at At&t for an hour trying to get the phone to work, but At&t said everything was fine on there end I could not get it to register on the network. The phone willl read the sim and say At&t I get no service. Please report back if you got a droid 2 global working on At&t.

V20 and project fi

I dont know if this has been asked before, will this work on project fi?
The official list at the moment is only Pixels, Nexus 6P and 5X. Not sure why the Nexus 6 isn't still on that list since it was the launch device for the service. (I'm guessing the list is limited to what they officially have stock of.)
The US996 carrier unlocked model would be the closest match for Project Fi, but that model is missing all the Sprint bands. So would only work with T-Mobile's network for FI.
You can check all the compatibility of the US996 here:

Just because the LS997 from Sprint supports all the bands for Project Fi, there is no guarantee that it would be carrier unlocked to work with Project Fi and its SIM.

Just posting to add that my h910 LG v20 from AT&T does work on fi. The one guy who said that only T-Mobile would work is correct in my case. The v20 doesn't even have the type of dialer codes that are used for forcing network switching on fi supported phones. However I have found some use for this because I have an official supported pixel 2 from Project fi and happened to be a convert from AT&T and thus I had my old h910 to screw around with why the hell not? So to anyone who is familiar with project fi and is also the type of geek who frequents XDA, you are probably aware of apps like signal spy or Signal Info. When I was talking about dialer codes, those apps copy the dialer code to your clipboard and then you paste to your phone dialer which will then switch to either T-Mobile, Sprint, or US Cellular.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that even if your variant of the v20 does have the correct radios to work on the network, at this point I'm unaware of any way to switch between those Networks. That is not to say it is impossible, perhaps somebody can code something that would do that and if so please shoot a message my way. Also you may be disappointed when you find out that picture texting doesn't seem to work, or at least I haven't figured out how to fix it yet.
I currently use my v20 on Project fi very often. Anyone who has a pixel 2 is probably aware that one of the biggest complaints about the February update is reduced battery life, and so I often pull my SIM card out and stick it into my v20. Which does bring me to an interesting note if you are unaware, if you begun your service with project fi on a pixel 2 phone ....... Which does bring me to hun interesting know if you are unaware, if you be gone your service with project fine a pic so to phone.. You will have been activated using the SIM method in which your phone does not actually have a nano SIM inside of it. Now what you can do as a simple little life hack or whatever the hell you want to call it, is call and ask project fi how you go about ordering a free nano SIM. It'll cost you nothing and when you get it you can then activate it to the same phone number as the E Sim. However you cannot use the ECM and the nano SIM simultaneously. But it does allow you to have a backup phone.
Sent from my Pixel 2 using XDA Labs
Now that you can order a SIM directly from Google, will it work with Sprint model V20 if unlocked?
I realize it won't have the carrier switching but that's ok.
I too use my V20 with Project-Fi. I have the T-Mobile variant and everything seems to be working fine. The network switching will not work and will be restricted with T-Mobile service only.. Also, you will be unable to do Wi-Fi calling. Seems to be restricted on non Project-Fi phones. As far as MMS, I've used it only with Hangouts. I like to keep all my conversations synced across devices. I can try MMS via the stock messaging app and see if it works. If data doesn't work, you can try the following APN settings:
Open the Settings app on your device.
Tap More (under Wireless & Networks).
Tap Cellular networks and then Access Point Names.
Tap + (at the top of the screen).
Tap Name and enter "Project Fi".
Tap APN and enter "h2g2".
Save.
Go back to the previous page.
Select Project Fi from the list.
Hope this helps.

SIM unlock Verizon VS995 for different carrier

I have a LG V20 (model VS995) that was previously from Verizon. I switched to google Fi and my phone has never worked correctly. After months of delaying doing a full data reset as per their suggestion, I finally did it and rebuilt all of my apps but now when I go through the Google Fi activation process, it says the SIM card can not be read. I even ordered a second card just in case but I get the same error. I have tried multiple times. According to Fi support, they are saying my VS995 was never fully SIM unlocked from Verizon. Before I left Verizon, they told me their phones aren't really locked so there was nothing to do. Can anyone verify that I really don't need to unlock my phone? I have been having issues for months and now my phone has zero phone functionality. It can't send or receive calls at all. I will gladly go to a local Verizon store if needs to be SIM unlocked. I am hoping one of you has an answer as googling "VS995 unlock" beings up countless web sites with zero valuable information that actually works.
FWIW, my phone is not hacked at all.
All VS995 models come SIM-unlocked out of the box because Verizon at that time was required by law to do so (they started SIM-locking their phones again around June 2019), so there is nothing needed to do on Verizon's end to unlock the phone, and I'm not sure why the SIM card can't be read unless Google Fi gave you a Sprint SIM card, which is totally different and only works on the LS997 model. As far as I know, Google Fi's main networks are T-Mobile and Sprint. The VS995 is rather bad in reception for Fi since it has none of Sprint's LTE bands and only has LTE bands 2 and 4 for T-Mobile (lacking bands 12, 66, and 71).
