Hi everyone, how can I completely remove the root of Kingroot? I just bought a Nexus 4 from the second-hand market, but it has been rooted by Kingroot, but I tested it with a Root Checker, and it showed "sorry! root access is not properly installed on this device", what should I do now? I am planning to flash a new rom for it, can I root it again? Please give your advice, thank you very much!
pls forgive my poor English!

You cannot flash a Generic System Image (GSI), but you can definitely install any custom roms for your device.

Okay, thank you bro, because I just started to touch the flashing,, in order not to become a brick, I will try it after I fully understand the tutorial, anyway, I am very grateful for your help
Hello brother, I have seen the Divest OS that you introduced last time, but I still don’t understand some points. I would like to ask:
1. It said "resized /system is required" in the introduction, and the actual operation steps should be what to do?
2. After installing Divest OS, can I install other applications on it at will ? Such as: Facebook,Whatsapp.......
3. If it feels inappropriate, can I install another ROM freely?
Please forgive my ignorance, because I really don’t understand, especially for the first point, I have read the instructions on their official website and did not mention how to resize......but I still have to thank them for their support of Nexus 4 up to now

THE ULTIMATE NOOBS GUIDE TO ROOTING
Introduction
Hello there people!
I've always been a fan of helping others out and I thought this guide will be helpful to those who want to get started on rooting their device. I'm making this as sort of an updated thread to @DooMLoRD 's Amazing Guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354704). I hope that you guys are positive towards this thread and not be ungrateful to the effort I've given to this thread. On another note, please, wait NO, YOU MUST THANK :good::good: the developers in their specific threads as a form of appreciation to their hardwork they've put into creating a more vibrant world for the Android Community! Enough chatter, let's get on with dis! :fingers-crossed:
Disclaimer
By following this guide, you are hereby responsible to anything that happens to your device. By rooting, you are essentially VOIDING your warranty but there is a way to regain your warranty though. If you follow this guide CORRECTLY, I can assure you that 80% of the time, you won't hit into problems.
Rooting
The term "root" in Android is defined as "Unlocking Higher Privelages to your Android Device". Rooting can also be compared to the User Account Controls in Windows PCs. Traditional rooting methods are usually what steers users away from actualy from rooting their device but the newly released app named; "TowelRoot" is an application developed by world-renowned hacker GeoHot which aims to simplify the rooting process to a click of a button. To root the Sony Xperia SP, the TowelRoot Application is able to quickly allow you to root your device in a click. Follow the steps below to root your device in a matter of seconds!
Go to Settings > Security > and check Unknown Sources ON to allow us to install third-party apps.
If needed, untick the Verify Application option
Access http://towelroot.com
Tap on the Lambda Sign [The Letter in the middle of the website]
Save the application that is downloaded [Application name: tr.apk ]
Install the TowelRoot Application
Once installation is completed, open the app
Tap on the Make it Ra1n Button and give it a maximum of 2 minutes to excecute the rooting process
Once Finished, the application should say that you are rooted!
If the Installation Fails, your phone will just simply reboot. If it does fail, you might want to turn to DoomLord's Easy Rooting Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329208 or other sources
Install SuperSU by ChainsDD or ChainFire on the Play Store
Open the app and update its binary and you should be completed!
And DONE! It wasn't that complicated right? Although I think we exceeded that few seconds promise, you still got root access now!
BootLoader
There are some Xperia SP's that come with a LOCKED Bootloader. It is highly recommended to unlock your bootloader as it will give you much more opportunities to the Android World. DoomLord has the whole proccess covered in perfect detail so I rather you guys take a look at his amazing guide by clicking on the badass link that redirects to his awesome post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354721
Recovery
The main aim of obtaining a recovery for your device is to have the ability to install Android MODS, ROMS and more on your device. The most trusted Recoveries in Android are; ClockworkMOD, Team Win Recovery Project [TWRP] and PHILZ Touch (A touch version of ClockworkMOD). To get all three recoveries follow the steps below!
Visit this site on your computer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649923
Download the ZIP File
Unzip the file to your most preffered location
Head to the About Phone Section in your Xperia SP Settings
Press on the Build Number multiple times until the notification that says, You are now a developer or You're Already a Developer pops up
Go back to the main page of your settings
Open the Developer Options Tab
Locate the USB Debugging Option and tick it
Click the button on the top right to enable the Developer Options
Go back to the main screen of your Xperia SP (Launcher)
Run the Install.bat file on your computer
Select Option 1 to start the installation process
A notification should pop up on your Xperia SP Screen. Click on Accept to allow the install to continue
Once done, the Installer should notify you that the installation is complete
How to access a Recovery
It is important to get used to used to using a Recovery as it will reduce the chance of you running into problems. Your phone should now have 3 recoveries but we'll use the most trusted recovery which is the ClockworkMOD Recovery. To access the recovery follow this steps:
Turn on your device
Upon showing the SONY Logo, press and hold the Camera Button until a set of lights appear
If done correctly, you should be able to access CWM Recovery
Installing a Custom ROM
A Custom ROM is a custom-made android developed by Developers around the world. It is important to follow the steps shown by the Developer to install the Custom ROM to your device. If not, you can start saying goodbye to your Android as it will get what is known as a soft-brick. Every person has their own preffered custom ROMs that they use be it VANIR; a ROM based off pure Android, CyanogenMOD; a ROM based off its own system modifications and even your own Sony ROMs being made better! Take a look at this list at the thread below to find your own custom ROMs .Be sure to follow the instructions given by the Developer! It is also recommended that you look at the thread closely to see if there are any bugs and also required specifications before installing the ROM of your choice.
Redirect yo' ass to the thread by clicking on this small ass link to my right mate : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2683688
Android Kernels
An Android Kernel is the 'Software' that your hardware looks to to get functions working. Android Kernels for the Xperia SP are bound to the Android System/ROM that you have installed on your phone. Some Custom ROMs have their own Kernel built into them so again, look closely at the instructions on their specific thread. The links below will redirect you to the Kernels that are made available for the Xperia SP
Kernel for Stock Sony Firmware:
DooMKernel V13: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345567
Williams Kernel V5.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2750392

Installing MODS
Android Firmware generally gets shipped with bugs and issues that are mainly caused by phone manafacturers so it is wise to install MODs that help to improve your Android Experience even further. The list below shows you one of the most effective and great MODs that work on the Xperia SP. Check em' out mate! Follow the instructions to install the MODS to your device!
PurePerformancesX: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360670
AdBlockPLUS: https://adblockplus.org/en/android
Backing Up your device
Sometimes we run into trouble so we will usually back up our devices either by the Cloud or by using a storage device. The most common way of backing up your device is by backing up a 'system image' of your device by using the application called NanDroid (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup). Once installed, backup your device to your preferred storage device but we recommend backing it up to our good old SD Cards. Another way to backup your device is by creating a flashable zip of what YOU want to be backed up. This can be done through an all new application known as ZIPme by the famous (I think? ) JMRummyApps (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zip.me). Choose what you want to be backed up with the app and store it in your SD Card.
Recovering your device
Its perfectly normal to soft-brick your device now and then but it is important to know how to recover your device from it! Here are 2 methods to recovering your poor Xperia SP to its original state(s).
1. By Recovery
So if you still have the custom recoveries installed on your device, you can simply use the backups that you made from the applications in the 'Backing Up your device section'. To use the backup to good use, make your way to the the Recovery of your device and follow the instructions below:
Factory Reset your device by clicking on the wipe data option on the menu
After wiping your device, go back to the main page by hitting the GO BACK button on the sceen
Hit the 'Install ZIp' option
Press Choose zip from SDCard1
Locate your NanDroid Backup
Hit Install and let the phone do its thing
Once completed, reboot device and you should have android back! If not, follow the next method to recover your device
1. By Flashtool
Flashtool is a utility that is able to flash (install) STOCK SONY Firmware to your device without a lot of hassle. Follow the steps below to get your ass more known to flashtool! :silly:
Download Flashtool to your computer here: http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
Once installed, download and install the drivers from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635830
If you're running on the useless (just kidding) Windows 8/8.1, follow the steps on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...bootloader-t2153261/post38878089#post38878089
Download your country-specific FTF (Firmware) File from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964
Launch the Flashtool Utility
Click on the Lightning Button (Install Button)
Click the FlashMode Option
Locate your downloaded Firmware by pressing the button with the 3dots on the top right hand corner of the window
Select the Firmware
Click Flash
Follow the On-screen instructions after that
Reboot Device
Wait for maximum of 10minutes for rebuilding of system files
The Stock Android should pop-up and you can repeat all of the steps mentioned above to reroot your device!
Warranty Recovery
Preparing your device to obtain worthy of the warranty you got with your device means following the steps in the 'Recovering Your Device' and flashing the Stock SONY Firmware via flashtool. To Lock your bootloader again, follow the steps provided by AndroidTeen.com (Just a random site I found that helped me lock my bootloader ) http://androidteen.com/sony-xperia-sp-how-to-relock-bootloader/
Further Assistance
The Xperia SP community is full of derps people. If you ever run into any problems and such, please do post a informative thread that includes all the information you can provide and your help question in THIS forum section. It is also recommended to ask your question in the specific thread of your problem (eg. Installing a recovery problems and enquiries should be posted on its specific thread). You can also alternatively request for assistance on this thread too.

Exactly what I was thinking.
For a device that's over a year old, it's quite normal that all the above has already been covered.
Anyway, it's not a bad idea to put all this "basic" information in one thread but I suggest you to post links to the individual threads.
That way people know where to post in case of questions or problems.

Yes It is working. I root my device using towel root with .207 update
Alright, so following some prodding, searching, and questioning, I flashed MIUI V6 to my BLU Vivo Air alongside TWRP.
I will update this post with a detailed, step-by-step guide including my own personal mirrors for your convenience and those of you without 4PDA accounts, which is the Russian equivalent of XDA.
Upon booting, I noticed apps force closing without being launched. Namely Hangouts and Newsstand. I'm sure reinstalling them will resolve the issue rather quickly.
Stay tuned for updates.
Update 1:
TWRP had difficulty mounting data and cache for me, and was unable to format them. This led to applications force closing, window mishaps, and accounts glitching out. I just flashed Carliv recovery, and flashed MIUI with it. Flashing gapps at the moment, and will update you on my progress.
Update 2:
Currently attempting to format data (success), cache (success), and dalvik (success).
Update 3:
Rebooting into MIUI V6, checking if I've entered a bootloop.
5 seconds - Boot animation reached, "MIUI Pro."
165 seconds - Still booting.
180 seconds - Setup screen reached, MIUI V6 flashed successfully.
Update 4:
Google apps flashed successfully, no redraws or force closes this time. Had an issue with the keyboard not registering as being selected, Google voice typing appeared as the default. Pull down notification shader and "choose input method" to select MIUI Smart Keyboard. Signed into Google successfully. Will run preliminary tests on video playback, camera, and multitasking.
Guide:
If you mess up your phone, it is on you, and I am not to be held liable for your actions. This is your responsibility. A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine. With that out of the way, if you encounter troubles, I am more than happy to help you.
Step 1:
Root your phone using one of the links provided. Click HERE for method 1, or HERE for method 2. I personally used method 1 because it was the first I saw. They both get the job done.
Step 2:
Install THIS application (Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources), and install a recovery. I installed Carliv recovery, and had no problems with it. You can also install TWRP, however, it had issues mounting data and cache. This left it unable to factory reset when I flashed MIUI, which subsequently led to problems. I do not recommend flashing TWRP - You have been warned. Carliv recovery says it can't "mount" cache, although when formatting it does so without a problem. I believe Carliv is supposed to be touch-based, although the touches weren't responding for me. The controls are as follows: Volume +/- for navigating, Power for selecting, and the Back key for, you guessed it, going back.
Step 3:
Install MIUI V6, located HERE, and then install Google Apps, located HERE. After installing, factory reset the device from recovery and reboot into the system. I posted my timestamps at the top of the post, so you can get an idea of how long your flash/boot process should take.
Step 4:
Basic setup. Be ready to fix your keyboard if you had the same issue I did, which isn't even necessarily a problem. Choose WLAN network and sign into your accounts, then you're good to go.
To root the ROM, I recommend finding "iRoot" for your computer. Then boot to recovery and install the SuperSU zip, as it's better than the root app which comes with the iRoot method.
Enjoy your ROM, and be sure to thank our Ruski comrades over at 4PDA!
Special thanks to @DvDwx. (research), @itsJohnuno (answers), and @Milly7 (testing).
All download links are being hosted by me, and I recommend creating mirrors of your own as safety precautions in the event that the files are removed or become unavailable.
Have a phenomenal day or night, possibly even both. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Yeah. I've also noticed that downloading updates is botched, because it downloads an update for a different phone model. If you try to install it the installation will fail, but it won't hurt your phone.
All in all it's a pretty solid ROM for me.

I'll post some tomorrow. Re-read the past 5-6 posts and you'll see the bugs. I think you'll like it. MIUI is certainly different (settings default apps) and such, but it's a formidable ROM and performs relatively well.

Our Buddy @SSJGohon found the kernel source code and already shared on some topic(i Already re-shared that on Cyanogen Mod to Mediatek SoC's Development thread... but anyone there say nothing about it... and already shared on 4PDA to maybe the MiUi developer can Bring something to All...). i already downloaded and already start my research about what can be maked with that and for sure have a possibility to we have a custom Kernel and maybe Custom ROM like PURE AOSP, AOSPA... but Cyanogen Mod is more difficult because we don't have a updated Repo Source from MediaTek to work like Driver Blobs to GPU, Bluetooth, Wifi Drivers... etc
My real problem is i don't have all skills to make a custom kernel to Mediatek SoC because a lot of things change from Qualcomm to Mediatek.. but if anyone here want to try development that just search the topics with @SSJGohon comments replays :highfive:

I've already installed the ROM, it runs smoothly! You were right, I really like it! I had an issue trying to format /data, it took like 15 minutes, and did a hard reset (pressed power button for a few seconds) and tried to format again and it worked. Im a little bit worry cause I've had 2 radom reboots so far.. Any idea of what has happened to me?
so i was trying to flash CherishOS so i followed the instruction and found some problem but i was managed to solve the problem. FYI, the rom gave the link to the custom recovery which is the PixelExperience one, since i'm coming from the stock latest rom so i flashed that. until i done everything and boot to system, and it just keeps returned to the bootloader no matter which option i choose (boot to system & recovery), but luckily the device is still detected in my computer
What i've tried :
- flash recovery (PixelExperience & TWRP)
- Followed this instruction
but none of that is working, one thing i found out while doing the 2nd method is that it shows some errors like "flashing is not allowed for critical partition" and "partition not found".
I have no clue what to do, i've tried whatever solution i could find and none are working. please help, thanks
edit:
I also tried the "fastboot flashing unlock_critical" and tried to reboot into fastbootd but failed and the fastboot shows all command list

If i click on the link to download the recovery there is nothing about pixelexperience. So i guess you saw something about pixelexperience in the recovery itself. Thats not a problem anyway. You could use lineage recovery too. As long as the recovery is made for a12 thats not a problem as far as i know.
Its not written in the Cherish OS thread but in all other roms you have to be on the latest OOS11 on BOTH slots. Did you do this beforehand?

yoo it works, thanks a lot man. hope you know how relieved i am
yeah i know it's not the problem, but it was the first time i know this recovery in like few years of modding my phone
also i finnaly able to flash the the custom rom, thanks!
I totally agree tho, the oos for me is the best stock rom, i tried the beta 1 tho, but it just leans towards to the color os since oppo is the parent company of oneplus. it just feels more heavy and too many change from the stock android. that's why i decided to flash custom rom
again, thank you so much! have a great day!

Hi. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 sm-t530nu and it is running on a really old Android version so I am unable to use some of the apps I would like to use. I have searched the internet and I am really finding it difficult to find an easy explanation on how to update it to the latest android version ( currently sit's at 5.0.2 and wont auto update any further ). I have seen some YouTube videos but most of the links they refer to are old and the video quality is quite poor. Can anyone direct me to somewhere that can easily explain what I need to do. Really sorry but I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to android things. Please help and much appreciated.

You are at the right place. Before you can install a new version of Android, you need to install twrp, a replacement for the stock recovery program on your tablet. For most people this is the hardest part of the whole process. If and when you install twrp, installing a new OS is a piece of cake. Please watch this Youtube video:

Make sure your tablet is fully charged before flashing. Drag off to your desktop computer any files you want to save, pictures, DCIM, sound. Disable screen timeout in TWRP settings, screen. Installing the new ROM will go by fast. The Google Apps take time to install. Just sit and watch. When the tablet reboots again just sit and watch, lots of things happening under the hood. There may appear a Google app error. Ignore it. It only happens once.
Excellent thanks. I have one query. When Install the above , can I do it without a SD Card ?. Can I drag the files direct to the Tablet ?
Thanks again ,massive help.
Hi. All sorted and go it all installed. Thank you so much for the help and this is a great forum. Appreciate that it was a professional and easy to understand response and no trolling , which is rife these days. Thanks for the effort and time and really really glad I came across this forum. @SteinbeckFan ; thank you so much.
Congrats sandstorm I don't know what I am doing wrong but I have flashed 11 a few times and when I get to set up I get stuck at "can't find sim" so I go back to 5.02 and try again with the same result. Any suggestions for where I am going wrong or step by step to try again?
Just completed again - got it working - picked the correct Gappa - all done

Thanks so much for the links and making it clear! I was able to do it super easily.
Note) I did have to chose an older TWRP version in order to be able to download it from Android File Host.
EDIT: One thing I needed to do extra was flash Magisk to get root (don't bother trying any of the samfirm, frija, samloader, etc (region code XAR) or CF-AutoRoot, SuperSU). To do so, grab the magisk.apk from the GitHub releases, then rename the extension to .zip, then flash it through TWRP. Make sure to also flash this after: "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_10.20.2019.zip" here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389 and rename it to "Disable_ForceEncrypt_10.20.2019.zip"
[SOLVED] Phone gets stuck in bootloop if I try to install Magisk ZIP!
From the forum I followed these step to install magisk: - Patched my boot.img of my current rom using Magisk Manager and flashed via fastboot - After rebooting from fastboot it got stuck in recovery so had to wipe all data and it booted finally...
forum.xda-developers.com
EDIT 2: ...I'm still stuck in bootloop where it tells me to it's "formatting data"... Highly recommend making a backup in TWRP before trying to install Magisk/root.
I bought this phone in large part due to the EDL flashing tool which OnePlus decided to lock down and start charging money for. So I'm pretty bummed to see a landscape without much activity or support from various well known projects like TWRP and Lineage. Is there any recovery out there on par with TWRP that works right now whose GitHub repo hasn't been deleted?
Custom recvoerys like TWRP dont play a big role anymore. At least i did not need one on my last 3 devices. OnePlus 8 Pro, Nothing Phone 1, Pixel 7 Pro. All have custom roms and everything is fine.
The only thing i am missing is NandroidBackup but without sdcard sot Nandroid is not really useful anyway.
Short answer: No we have no custom recovery but we dont need one.
Ia there anything working with this Nothing phone
Nandroid backup saved me so many times...
I would like so much TWRP

For me, that's not true.
I have a couple of cases that the TWRP can solve.
- delete some apps in the super partition.
- use scripts from @osm0sis to deactivate force encryption and make super partition writable again
- nandroid backup
- delete magisk modules if they make problems or bootloops
- and much more that I have forgotten
I'm not an expert, but I loved to flash ROM (before my NP!)
Now I'm with 1.5.3 with a big fear to brick my NP1 to jump on a Custom ROM
Every Custom ROM has a particular instruction to flash it, XDA is no more the basic area where the threat are updated, now is Telegram where are all the info
But these "info" are not simple and explained step by step...
TWRP would have been a safe port for me (us? @dreas74 )
... I have no such scripts.
