I changed the CSC of my international Exynos S8 to USA ATT in order to use VoLTE, and battery life went from ~16 hours to ~6-8 hours. (less than half). This was on a debloated, rooted phone I've used for 4 years (on the AT&T network as an int'l CSC w/ 3G voice) and didn't have much running on it.
I then used an AT&T branded Snapdragon S8 for a few days as a test, and noticed the battery also lasted only about 6-8 hours. (Nougat, one-click rooted)
I didn't do much aggressive terminating of services etc. (I just did my standard disabling of NFC, GPS=phone only) but I also didn't notice any overt AT&T bloatware appearing with the CSC change.
The biggest change was that voice is now VoLTE, vs. 3G voice. However, I disabled "HD voice" halfway through on the AT&T phone, with no impact"
Any ideas why the huge difference in battery life? It's a game-changer, because it means I can't go daylight hours away from a charger.
Thanks in advance.

Originally on my N4 I was rocking straight talk ATT side, my battery life was awesome... Well then I recently switched to T-Mobile monthly 4G (faster speeds) and now even after a couple factory wipes my battery doesn't seem very good. I check what's consuming and Android OS and android system is always in the top 2. I can't seem to get those two programs to calm down. Its not a rogue app, I don't have any apps besides xda installed. I am not rooted just running stock. Has anyone else seen a battery life drop since using T-Mobile, is it that significant? Any advice or tip would be appreciative.
This is really interesting to me. I've read a great deal about the Nexus 4 battery issues but as far as I know they've never been linked to carrier. Of course, I haven't read everything about it and someone might have made a connection along the way, but I haven't come across it.
Do you use the Better Battery Stats app? If so, check the number of msm_hsic_host wakelocks. On a good day, mine hovers around 10-12% of the overall wakelocks (today it's 22%, who knows why). To my knowledge, this is related to the Android OS in the stock battery analysis. I'm on AT&T. This would make me hesitant to jump to T-Mobile when my contract ends in March. Hopefully 4.2.2 fixes the problems regardless, but has anyone else seen worse battery life on T-Mobile than AT&T?
My G2 used to last forever but now the battery drains really quickly.
For example, doing something a simple as reading through posts on here for 2 minutes sees the battery drop about 3%.
As you can imagine, I can't really do too much without killing it within a few hours.
The 3000 mAh battery was a huge selling point when deciding to buy last year, but now I'm not so sure it was the right decision.
I have the D802 model from Taiwan, but using in the UK.
Using the phone in Taiwan, I get LTE /4G without a problem.
In the UK depending on the network, 4g is enabled automatically, however on my current network (Three) I have to go into the secret menu to get 4g to work, afterwhich, if the phone is reboots for whoever reason, then it is reset to 3g.
Im not rooted, running stock rom.
Any ideas? Typing this message has dropped me from 85% to 8²%
What is the typical battery life / performance for Galaxy Note 4 users on this board? And what is the typical life advertised by Samsung, and featured in reviews?
I get about 13-15 hours, with 3 hours screentime on my Korean Note 4 (sm-n910k). But I thought I'd seen reviews boasting near two day usage...six-ten hours screentime.
What is going on then for me? I am BITTERLY disappointed with battery performance: The attached screenshot shows my typical day. Is this normal for you too?
In this screenshot example no calls made during the day, no GPS usage, and almost no apps beyond Gmail and Twitter. I have just a handful of additional apps installed, but the phone does however appear loaded with bloatware.
I took the device to Samsung Service Center in Seoul on the weekend (for a second time) and showed them the problem. It drained 5% from 15 mins of screentime right in front of the engineer.
After resets and reboots engineer said this was normal and that all tests showed the phone to be normal.
Or is it only normal for the Korean variant, but NOT for the international variant?
Help much appreciated!
Mine from Korea too 910L
And I haven't use 3g that day, only play some heavy graphic game 45 minutes and use wifi
Sent from my SM-N910L using XDA Free mobile app
I got both the SM-N910K an the SM-N910C at home, mostly because at first my 910K did not want to enable 4G in my country no matter what (even though it was supposed to be supported) So when we got the local 910c i got one too. It turned out that after a firmware update, my 910K started working in LTE in Brazil normally, i dont know why. But what shocked me was the terrible battery life of the K in comparison to the C. SO i swapped their batteries to see if it was a battery issue but the C kept maintaining amazing battery life. So I rooted the K, replaced the rom with a custom N910S rom that i found online (it works just fine because they are identical) and begun deleting crap that i knew was unneeded because my C didn´t have it and while i am still running some tests it would seem that the battery life of the K has been improving. There are a ton of bundled crap inside the firmware, even the custom one...so hang on to your K, once a decent custom rom comes out of it, it will be a lot better. Mind you, i also compared them a bit and the screen on the K seems better than the C when it comes to color fidelity (the C is a bit warmer), and going thru benchmarks, the K always pulls ahead by a bit. It´s almost as if it was clocked a wee bit higher. Keep digging!
N910H with N910C SweetRom v2
12-15hrs autonomy, 5h30 to 6h of screen on time. 50% WiFi, 50% HSPA+.
Disappointed a bit because I expected an improvement over Note 3 and it's not the case at all.
OP, something is wrong there try a factory reset or a custom ROM. Root and install a wakelock detector to figure out what's happening
Thanks for the feedback. What are others getting in terms of time?
Especially interested in non korean models.
So to cut a long story short I already have an S10 plus from Samsung however the battery life was shocking so I sent the device back for a replacement they're being really slow with the replacements so I'm tempted to just request a full refund. I have been looking at the snapdragon S10 plus and how much better it is on both battery and performance and wondering if it's possible for it to work in the UK you can buy it for about 850 quid from certain sites. wanted to know if anyone has any experience with using an American or Chinese snapdragon in the UK and if you still get updates and full connectivity?

I had the same issues with my phone before, I requested a replacement and now I have not had any issues I tweak the device to my likings and not issues presented. Also one bug that was draining a lot of battery was the VoiP calling bug (whatsapp or facebook call) will activate the proximity sensor and it will prevent the phone to go into deep sleep, only way to solve it was restarting the device, now there is a software update that solves that issue called ASCA.
Also I don't know how you restore your phone, I avoid any backups from smartswitch or google backups, I set up my phone from scratch to prevent any corrupted app settings. This has been my battery usage, before posting I changed the display to FHD+ before it was in WQHD+

Your battery life is much better then mine I have a s10 plus which I bought through Vodafone on contract I unlocked it and installed the March update the BTU version through sammobile this was my battery life even reset the phone and installed everything with no backups I only had 3 hours 42 minutes screen on time standby of 14 hours and 14% left
At least 10 times a day, I'm dropping signal. It does not affect voice or text messages.
For no reason I will simply not have mobile data. I'll have full bars and it still shows LTE, however chrome and any games I might be playing simply hang. Sometimes if I go airplane mode on and off, and I'll fix it. other times I'll just wait a minute or two and I will have restore data.
I have tried restarts which usually fixes the problem. I've tried updating profile and PRL, but that doesn't help.
I figured I would reach out to the community to see if someone has more information.
Thanks for any insight y'all might have.
I wasn't sure if this was a Sprint issue or if perhaps the v20 is outdated in the bands that it supports? Or perhaps some other issue and I am unaware of.
Did these issues just recently start out of nowhere?
I'm pretty sure Sprint has had the same LTE bands (25, 26, 41) since around 2013, so unless they have been messing around with new 5G stuff in your area, I wouldn't expect your coverage to change. I'm on a Sprint MVNO, and coverage in my area has always been the same over the years.
Maybe it's some kind of hardware issue (antennas gone bad?) with your V20.

I hadn't really considered the antennas, but I don't know of any way to check them. Generally the signal works and I don't have any issues. The problem is the frequency that I am lacking internet connection for are between 30 seconds to a minute is unnerving.
Some days it rarely happens, but often I am experiencing this at least a dozen times per day. I did go in and fully reset the network settings, that might have helped. Too soon to tell. Of course I have updated the PRL and Network, funny how it just says though settings are updated whether or not they actually install a new update.
I am an addict to the second screen and I love the removable battery of my v20. I also have a hard time upgrading because I don't like the screen ratios of most of the new phones and I refuse to go to a Galaxy line because I don't like the curved screen, those things are just too darn expensive to replace and fragile! (I do miss some of the features of the galaxy line though... How the settings are laid out and the sms delay option, etc)
Thank you very much for taking your time to share your thoughts!
Hopefully the network settings reset did the trick. I've had this phone for about a year and a half now and never experienced connectivity issues when on cellular data although I'm a low mobile data user.
I'm totally with you when it comes to hanging on to the V20. The removable battery is not something most of us are willing to give up easily. Battery life itself can be pretty good, too, if you have one of those 4100–4300 mAh 3rd party Lithium polymer batteries.
For sending delayed/scheduled SMS, have you ever tried other texting apps? I've been using an older version of Textra for a long time coming from previous phones as it is one of the few where MMS works over Wi-Fi cleanly for me, and the scheduled message option had always been there.

Thanks for your help!
I ended up just buying a pixel 3a xl. Starting to get some image bleeding and other strange issues. The v20 still has resale value and the 3a xl is a great value.
Paid 170 with a 30 day return policy. Considering 3a will continue to have updates for 2 years and I haven't gotten an update in 2 years... Felt it 2as a good time to change.
I am going to greatly miss the second screen though!
